The sky was painted in countless tones of purple, occasionally mixing with orange to create a flabbergasting view one would see only in paintings. The waves kissed the sand with a soft swash, creating the perfect soundtrack for this peaceful moment. The last rays of the sun on the horizon met our skin softly, casting a yellowish tint and long shadows.
I leant on Soobin's shoulders and gazed at a distant boat in the sea. He placed his hands on mine. I glanced at Ahyeon playing, her tiny fingers digging into the sand. She picked a fistful and instantly threw it back on the ground; flashing the cutest smile showing two front teeth successfully grown.
I dipped my hand in the picnic basket and took out a bottle of soju. I sipped some of it and passed it to Soobin. The sight in front of us drew us in so much that only our presence mattered at this moment.
"Remember when we first met?" He asked, his voice barely a whisper.
"How could I forget?" I chuckled. I smiled, my eyes twinkling.
"From then on, I am so thankful for rainy days," he spoke, but I smiled, but remained silent until only a chord of the sun was visible.
It started darkening.
Soobin and I put Ahyeon on her stroller, and the basket hanging on it. He pushed her stroller while I jogged towards the water. I stood, watching the horizon as the waves crashed to my feet, while I tried to enjoy every last ray of the dying sun. He came right after, his hand wrapped around my waist, then rested his head on mine.
"Shall we go in?"
I hummed, and then we walked to the beach house.
We had pizza for dinner and rested on the sofa. The cosy living room was illuminated by the soft glow of the fireplace, inviting us to relax. They settled on the couch, Ahyeon fast asleep in her crib.
"Another perfect day," Soobin sighed, his eyes filled with contentment.
I nodded, my gaze fixed on the dancing flames, lost in the faint crackling sounds of the fire. "It's like a dream," I whispered.
To lighten the mood, we opened another bottle of soju; and I suddenly felt like I wanted to get wasted with Soobin, although he was a cautious drinker. The smooth liquor flowed, loosening our thoughts and warming our hearts. Laughter filled the room as we shared stories and reminisced about our future: a topic I would routinely avoid if it was not for Soobin asking me.
With each passing drink, I could feel my cheeks heating up, and my body becoming less and less tense; like I was losing control, and maybe I wanted to let my thoughts win today. My eyes, once clear and focused, now held a dreamy haze. A mischievous glint appeared in my eyes as I turned to Soobin.
"You know," I slurred, my voice soft and breathy, "I've been thinking..."
Soobin leaned in, intrigued. "Thinking what?" His voice was barely heard over the growing crackling of the fire.
I hesitated, my gaze flickering between his eyes and lips. Then, with a sudden surge of courage, I leaned forward and kissed him. It was a gentle, almost hesitant kiss, but it spoke volumes.
Soobin looked slightly taken aback, but he returned the kiss, his lips moving in sync with mine. The kiss deepened, growing more passionate with each passing moment. Our hands intertwined, fingers tracing patterns on each other's skin.
As the kiss broke, we were both breathless, our foreheads resting against each other. My eyes, filled with a mixture of desire and fear, met Soobin's.
"I'm sorry," I whispered, pulling away. "I don't know what came over me."
Soobin reached out, gently cupping her face. "It's okay," he reassured me. "I understand."
A moment of silence passed between us, the only sound the crackling of the fire. Then, without warning, like I had no control over myself, I leaned forward seeking his lips once again.
Everything felt fucking perfect.
