Epilogue

"Yuji, stop. We're gonna be late," Megumi scolded, trying to tug his shirt back on, and failing miserably, because Yuji was being very, very distracting.

"Mhm. Mm, yeah, okay. We'll go," Yuji murmured, nuzzling his neck, and kissing his skin.

"You're not taking this seriously," Megumi stated, but he was melting into Yuji's touch, and his eyes slipped closed.

"Yes, I am. You're the one who keeps making me stop," Yuji retorted, and Megumi huffed.

"Well, excuse me for wanting to show up on time," he grumbled.

Yuji pulled away, grinning at him, and Megumi could feel his cheeks burning.

"Relax, Megumi. We'll be fine," he said, leaning forward and kissing him. "It's not like we're getting married or anything."

"We're not, but someone is. So, let's go. We can finish this later," Megumi declared, finally managing to button his shirt, and he smoothed it down, glaring at his tie, which was currently a mess.

"Okay, okay. Let me fix that," Yuji sighed, and he reached out, his fingers nimble as they untangled the tie and tied it properly.

Megumi watched him, his irritation fading.

"Thanks."

"No problem," Yuji grinned, and he patted Megumi's chest, and his hand lingered. "There. All better."

Just as Megumi was about to pull him into another kiss, the door flew open, and Nobara barged in.

"Oh, thank god. You're not naked," she said, and Megumi groaned.

"Kugisaki, what the hell? I thought we agreed that you would knock?" he shouted, his face burning, and he was very glad they'd both managed to get most of their clothes back on.

"Uh, no. You suggested that, and I ignored you," Nobara replied. "But, that's not the point. We're leaving in five minutes, and everyone is waiting for you. So, hurry up."

"Yeah, yeah. We're coming," Yuji assured her.

"You'd think that the two of you living together would make things easier, but no, it's somehow even worse," Nobara complained, shaking her head. "I'm surrounded by idiots. Anyway, the ceremony is supposed to start soon, and we've got a schedule to stick to. Get your asses out here. Now."

With that, she left, and Yuji and Megumi were alone once more.

"She's not wrong," Megumi pointed out, and Yuji chuckled.

"Don't listen to her. She's just being dramatic."

"You know she's not. But, whatever. Are you ready to go?"

"Yeah, I think so. Are you?"

"Yeah."

Yuji leaned in and pecked his cheek, and he was grinning as he grasped his hand.

"Let's go, then."

After all, it wasn't every day that two of their friends got married.

-

The ceremony was beautiful.

Maki and Yuta looked so happy, and there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Even Megumi and Yuji were sniffling a little, though they'd never admit it.

They were all seated around the small, outdoor space, and Gojo had taken care of everything, including the officiant, who was currently talking.

"Do you, Zenin Maki, take Okkotsu Yuta, to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"

"I do," Maki declared.

"And do you, Okkotsu Yuta, take Zenin Maki, to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"

"I do," Yuta nodded.
"Then, by the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride," the officiant said, and a loud cheer erupted from the crowd, and the happy couple kissed, and everyone clapped, and Megumi felt Yuji lean against him, his head resting on his shoulder.

"Are you crying?" Megumi teased.

"Shut up. So are you," Yuji muttered.

"No, I'm not."

"I can hear you sniffling."

"That's because I'm allergic to weddings," Megumi retorted.

"Liar. You're a big, ol' sap, and you cried during the vows," Yuji accused.

Megumi sighed.

"Okay. So, I may have teared up a little. But, that's it."

"That's okay. It's cute," Yuji chuckled.

Megumi rolled his eyes, but a small smile spread across his face, and he rested his head against Yuji's.

"This was a good wedding."

"Yeah. They're gonna have a good life together," Yuji agreed.

"I bet the Zen'in clan is thrilled. I mean, Maki marrying a distant relative of Gojo's? Not to mention, he's a special grade sorcerer," Megumi mused. "Too bad they'll never see her again. I think that's the best part of this."

Yuji laughed.

"When I told her she massacred the whole clan on my old timeline, she looked so smug. And, you know what she said? 'I might do it again. Just for fun.' Can you believe that?"

"Can't blame her, though. The Zen'ins are scum. They are still pissy about the fact that I'm dating a guy, so I'm not gonna give them a bunch of Ten Shadows babies."

"We could always adopt," Yuji suggested.

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We're not even engaged."

"Yet," Yuji said.

"Hm."

Megumi glanced at him.

"What are you thinking?"

"Oh, nothing. Just that, I'm gonna marry the hell out of you," Yuji declared, his grin bright. "In the future, though. Obviously. After a proper amount of time has passed. Gotta get used to living together and stuff, first."

"Right," Megumi nodded.

"And, then, we can have our own happy ending."

"I like the sound of that."

"Yeah. Me, too."

"Now, are you ready to go congratulate the newlyweds, or are we gonna sit here, talking about the future for the rest of the day?"

"You know, we could probably get away with staying here," Yuji suggested.

"I'm sure Maki would find a way to kill us," Megumi countered.

"Good point."

Yuji took his hand, and he intertwined their fingers, and they got to their feet.

"Come on, then. Let's go."

"After you," Megumi said.

Yuji laughed, and they made their way through the crowd.

And, just before they reached Maki and Yuta, Megumi stopped, tugging on Yuji's hand.

"Hm?"

"Thanks, Yuji."

"For what?"

"For changing the future," Megumi replied, his gaze soft.

Yuji blinked.

"Oh."

He paused, and he seemed to consider his words.

"I should be thanking you. Because, when I was sent back in time - though I still don't really understand how it happened, but that's a story for another day - I didn't think I could go through all of it, not again. But, you were there, and you made me forget all the bad things. For a while, at least. I'm not sure I ever told you how much that meant to me."

"It wasn't just me. There were others, too."

"Sure, but you're the most important one," Yuji smiled.

Megumi's chest tightened, and he squeezed his hand.

"So, thank you."

"You're welcome."

And, then, Yuji leaned in, kissing him softly.

When he pulled away, Megumi was blushing, and Yuji grinned.

"You're still not so used to PDA, huh?"

"Nope. Not a fan."

"Too bad. You're stuck with me, now."

"Guess I am."

Yuji kissed his cheek, and Megumi huffed, but his smile betrayed his true feelings, and together, they walked over to Maki and Yuta.

"Congratulations!" Yuji exclaimed, letting go of Megumi's hand so that he could hug Maki, and Maki looked a little awkward, and she patted him on the back, a small smile on her face.

"Thanks," she murmured.

"I'm not gonna hug you," Megumi said.

"I wasn't going to ask,"Maki retorted.

"Congratulations," Megumi told her. "And, congratulations to you, too, Okkotsu-senpai."

"Thanks, Fushiguro," Yuta said. "Can you please leave out the senpai, though? It's weird. We're not in school anymore."

"Oh. Uh, sure," Megumi mumbled.

"It's so strange. I feel like such a grown-up, now," Yuta went on.

"Because, you are a grown-up. We're all grown-ups," Maki reminded him.

"Well, most people don't get married at twenty. I mean, we're young. We're really, really young," Yuta argued.

"Are you regretting it already? I swear, I'll kick your ass," Maki threatened.

"No! Of course not. I asked you to marry me. I wanted to marry you. I'm not going to take it back," Yuta insisted, and he hugged her, his arms looping around her neck.

"Then, stop complaining. This is our day, and we're gonna celebrate. Got it?"

"Okay," Yuta nodded.

Yuta looked a little scared, and Megumi tried not to laugh, because, of course, Maki would still intimidate the hell out of him, and the idea of that was amusing.

"Where's Kugisaki? I haven't seen her, since the ceremony ended," Megumi noted.

"If she's with my sister, you don't want to know," Maki grumbled. "I swear, if I had a nickel for every time I've walked in on them kissing, or doing something a lot more inappropriate than that, I'd be rich."

"She's happy, though, isn't she?"

"Yeah. She is," Maki admitted.

"Then, I'm happy for her."

"Yeah. Me, too," Yuji piped up, his arm slipping around Megumi's waist.

Maki smiled.

"You're such saps," she teased.

"Says the woman who just got married," Megumi fired back.

"Fair."

"Come on. Let's go. They're starting the food service, and I'm starving," Yuji said, and he tugged on Megumi's hand.

"Food. Right. We'll see you guys later," Megumi nodded.

"Thanks again for coming," Yuta said.

"Of course. Like we'd miss it," Yuji grinned.

"Enjoy your meal."

"Congratulations," Megumi said again, and Maki rolled her eyes.

"Get lost."

He did, and he was smiling, and he followed Yuji to the buffet table.

-

Yuuji was dancing with Megumi (well, they were mostly just swaying in place, but it was close enough), when Nobara finally decided to grace them with her presence.

"Where have you been? We were starting to think you ditched," he told her, frowning.

"I didn't ditch. I was busy," Nobara said, sounding a little irritated.

"Busy with your tongue down Mai's throat," Megumi noted.

Nobara glared at him.

"Shut it, Fushiguro."

"You have lipstick on your neck," Megumi pointed out.

Nobara's hand flew up, and she wiped at the area in question, and her cheeks turned pink.

"You're one to talk. I had to spend three excrutiating years watching the two of you sneak off, and make out in random corners and training fields. Three. Excrutiating. Years. If Hana hadn't joined our class, I might've had an aneurysm. Or, stabbed someone."

Yuuji laughed.

"Well, I'm glad the two of you don't have to do long distance anymore. How's the apartment hunt going, by the way?"

"Slow. Neither of us can agree on anything, and it's driving me insane. Mai's all about the location, and I'm worried about space, and I told her we should have a cat, but she's allergic, and now, we're both sulking," Nobara huffed.

"Cats are cute, though," Yuuji mused.

"I'll keep that in mind. When I get a cat, and she's sneezing constantly, I'll remind her of your support."

"Do that."

Nobara smiled.

"Speaking of, have you annoyed the hell out of Fushiguro, yet? You've been living together for what, two months, now?"

"Three, actually," Megumi corrected her.

"That's not so bad," Nobara shrugged. "Although the two of you were practically living together since first year. What's the difference, anyway?"

"The bed's comfier," Yuuji offered.

"That's it?"

"No. But, that's all I'm gonna say. He'll get embarrassed," Yuuji teased, glancing at Megumi.

"Idiot," Megumi muttered, though his cheeks were turning red.

Nobara sighed.

"I don't wanna know. I really don't."

"I told you," Yuuji grinned.

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever."

The song ended, and Nobara dragged the two of them towards the bar, and the rest of the night was spent celebrating, and having a good time.

-

Later, when the two of them were in their room, and were getting ready for bed, Yuuji was brushing his teeth, and Megumi was sitting on the counter, his legs dangling over the edge.

"This was a good wedding," Yuuji said, once he'd spit out his toothpaste.

"Yeah. It was."

"Isn't it crazy, watching our friends get married? It feels like yesterday, we were still in high school, and now, we're adults, and we're living together, and some of us are married."

"Yuuji, we were in high school three months ago. We're hardly adults," Megumi pointed out.

"Still. It's kinda nice, you know? The future's looking bright," Yuuji smiled.

"You think so?"

"I know so," Yuuji hummed.

He moved closer, and he was standing between Megumi's legs, and his arms were resting on the counter, his hands settling on Megumi's waist.

"I've been thinking about it, lately," Megumi murmured.

"What, the future?"

"Yeah. What comes next, I guess."

"I see."

"And, I was thinking..."

Megumi paused, and his fingers traced the pattern on Yuuji's shirt, and he wouldn't meet his gaze.

"I was thinking," he went on. "Maybe we could get a dog."

"A dog?"

"Yeah. Maybe. I dunno. You said you've always wanted one, so I thought, maybe we could get one. And, you know, have a dog together."

Yuuji beamed.

"That's a great idea. Wow, you were so serious, too. You had me thinking you were about to ask me to marry you or something," he chuckled.

"What? No. I wasn't going to - not right now. We've only been living together for a short time. It's not like we're in a rush. We've got the rest of our lives," Megumi stammered.

"I was kidding."

"I know," Megumi mumbled.

"You're cute when you're flustered," Yuuji teased.

Megumi's hands were resting on his shoulders, now, and he was tracing patterns there, too.

"Anyway. A dog sounds nice. Do you have any breeds in mind?"

"I wanna adopt one from a shelter. I feel bad for the ones that get abandoned, you know? They don't deserve to be treated that way," Megumi replied.

"Megumi," Yuuji said, his voice soft.

"What?"

"I love you," Yuuji declared.

"Yeah. I love you, too," Megumi said, his smile shy.

Yuuji leaned in, and he kissed him, and Megumi sighed against his mouth.

"So," Yuuji murmured, after he pulled away. "What would we do with the dog while we're away on missions?"

"We could find a good doggy sitter, or we could ask Tsumiki. She lives only a few blocks away, and I think she'd enjoy the company. Dogs are good at that sort of thing. They make you feel less lonely."

"I thought she had a boyfriend."

"She does, but he travels a lot. It gets pretty boring, being home alone," Megumi explained.

"Ah. I see. That makes sense," Yuuji agreed.

"You don't think it's a stupid idea, do you?"

"What, getting a dog? No. It's not stupid. It's a great idea. I love dogs. Hey, do you think your divine dog would play nice with a regular one? 'Cause, that's an interesting image."

"They'd get along fine. My divine dog is an extension of me, after all," Megumi said.

"I'll never get over how cool that is," Yuuji laughed.

Megumi hummed.

"Come on. Let's go to bed. We can talk about it some more in the morning," he suggested.

"Sounds good to me."

Yuuji let go of him, and he stepped back, and he made his way to the bed.

Megumi slid off the counter, and he followed after him.

They slipped beneath the covers, and they shifted a little, until they were both comfortable, and Megumi settled in his arms, his head resting on his chest.

"This mattress is definitely better than the one we had at the dorms," Yuuji murmured.

"Yeah. I agree," Megumi said.

"Good thing as first-grades we make enough money to afford a nice place."

"Well Gojo-sensei had to pull a lot of strings so that the higher-ups don't get wind of the fact that you can use Sukuna's technique. If they knew, you'd be a special-grade and I'd never see you cause you'd be travelling the world, doing mission after mission," Megumi muttered. "Especially since you mastered your domain. They'd want to use you."

"From what I heard, Gojo-sensei and Nanamin are working pretty hard on pulling a coup, and trying to dismantle the higher-ups. I hope it works out. Then, we won't have to worry so much," Yuuji commented.

"Gojo-sensei and Nanami-san are a great team. Well, when they're not at each other's throats. Anyway. Yeah. I hope the coup works out, too."

"They've got our support, if they need it. It'll work out," Yuuji stated.

"I know."

There was a brief moment of silence, and Megumi yawned.

"Are you tired?"

"A little," Megumi admitted.

"Okay, I'll shut up. Let's sleep."

"Shelter shopping tomorrow?"

"Yep. Sounds good."

"Okay. Goodnight, Yuuji."

"Night."

Megumi fell asleep, and his breathing was even, and Yuuji was warm, and his chest was rising and falling slowly, and he listened to his heart, and felt him shift, a little.

Megumi had been a constant presence in his life for a few years, now, and he wasn't going anywhere, and he was happy, and, well, if this was his future, then he was ready to embrace it.

With his best friend.

With the love of his life.

A/N: AAAND, IT'S OVER.

Thank you so much to everyone who tagged along for this wild ride. This is by far the longest thing I've ever written, and I'm actually kinda proud of it. So, thanks for reading, and leaving kudos and comments and messages.

As I said, I still plan on sharing some one-shots from this verse. Maybe a proposal? Perhappppps another wedding? A Malaysia honeymoon? I dunno. Just keep an eye out, hehe.

I'm also gonna be uploading my oneshots (some smutty, some not) to my Itafushi one-shots book, so feel free to check that out if you're looking for your next itafushi dose. If you're impatient, that's okay too, here is a link to my ao3 where you can read my sfw works (and a slightly smutty one, too). My nsfw ones are posted elsewhere though, but soon you can find them here on Wattpad as well.
