That's the thing about people. You can give them words of advice when they need some. You can lend a shoulder when they need one. You can give up your time for them. You can make surprises to cheer them up. You can notice how sad they look and try your best to at least make them smile on bad days. You can listen to their problems. You can carry them when they can't walk.

At the end of the day, even when you done all you can , sometimes people wouldn't do the same for you. We should always do things without expecting something in return but here's the twist. People forget to be grateful and they leave when they found someone better. And that's really sad.
