Chapter 3
Half an hour later, Maddy's mom came rushing into the pack headquarters with a defibrillator. The Alpha immediately rushed to the pack hospital behind her while Maddy and the others hurriedly finished their lunch and followed.
When they reached, Maddy saw that all the doctors were making different arrangements. Maddy's mom was barking orders and fiddling with the defibrillator.
"Stand back," Maddy's mom shouted and everyone hurriedly followed her order. She got the machine ready and then taking, the machine's pads, she approached Diana
Maddy saw the amount of energy to be supplied was low which made sense since they wouldn't want to give her too much of a shock. Everyone waited with baited breath while Maddy's mom placed the pads on Diana's chest and then pressed them down to apply the shock.
At first nothing happened and everyone's hope deflated but then all of a sudden, purple light glowed from Diana's chest. The glow started widening and in seconds, it blasted, throwing everyone behind. Maddy scrambled up and immediately ran towards her mother. She had been the closest to Diana and practically flew back because of the purple orb.
Maddy's mom got up in a daze. "I'm fine," she said on seeing Maddy's worried expression. "Just wondering how my life got this weird."
Maddy turned her attention back to Diana and was left speechless. Another purple orb, which was semi-transparent, surrounded Diana completely. She was inside the orb and seemed safe inside, or at least as safe as you could be in a coma. Justin tried to reach out to Diana but the moment his finger touched the orb, a visible electric shock which was weirdly, purple in color, travelled up his arm and shocked him. And it wasn't a small shock either. It was a full-fledged make-your-hair-standup-and show-your-skeleton-if you-were-in-a-cartoon type of shock which made him stumble back. Justin immediately pulled his hand back. He growled and tried to enter the orb once again but once again he got shocked.
Maddy's mom too tried to enter the orb but Maddy pulled her back. If the orb emitted a shock which was powerful enough to make a werewolf withdraw, it might severely harm or may even kill a human. One by one, werewolves tried to enter the orb but every time, they were forced back.
Finally, everyone seemed to get the message that they wouldn't be able to pass through the orb. "Can we do anything about that?" Justin said as he pointed to the orb with a glare.
Maddy's mom glanced at the orb worriedly. "I have absolutely no clue how to deal with that. The only idea I could think of was perhaps talking to a faerie, preferably one that isn't trying to kill my daughter. They would know what to do."
That wasn't an option. Nearly every faerie was trying to kill Maddy, or any werewolf in general. The only faerie who wasn't, was Ella who was at the Faerie Realm, a place Maddy couldn't go to unless she had a death wish. Maddy could think of only one way to get in contact with Ella- when Ella came to take Lila back to Faerie Realm. The only problem was that Maddy had no clue when Ella would arrive. Maddy had expected her to come soon to visit Lila but she hadn't shown up and it had been nearly one month with no signs of her.
"You could try visiting the mini-faerie who is in the secret library," Xander whispered to Maddy.
Maddy nodded. She could do that. Excusing herself, Maddy made her way to the secret library.
On entering the secret library, Maddy looked around but couldn't find Lila anywhere. She was just starting to think that Ella had somehow managed to take Lila back to the Faerie Realm without the werewolves noticing when she heard the familiar voice of Lila.
"Maddy! What are you doing here? Is it Thursday already?"
Ever since her return from India, Maddy had started visiting the library regularly for the past few weeks on Mondays and Thursdays to talk with Lila and to borrow some books from the library. The library had vast amount of knowledge and some of the books were so old that Maddy was half afraid that they would crumble into dust if she touched them. Lila and Maddy also talked about all sorts of things. They talked about various magical creatures that lived long ago. Lila, being immortal, had several interesting and unbelievable stories to tell.
It was a very interesting subject and Maddy had decided that once all the adventure with Bruce was over, she would concentrate on the books in the library and try to figure out if there were other magical species living, hidden from the human eye. If the faeries could remain hidden without even the werewolves knowing, other magical species could also do the same, right?
Maddy smiled at Lila. "It isn't Thursday yet. I actually have come here to ask you for help."
Maddy quickly explained Diana's coma to Lila. Once she finished, she saw that Lila was frowning which was an unusual sight.
"I won't be of much help," Lila admitted. "The faerie spells are a very complicated subject. There are hundreds of spells to do one thing."
Lila flew up and after a little difficulty, she brought down one book from one of the shelves. "Take this book for example. This book only contains spells on how to poison someone. They contain different mediums through which you can poison a person and there are specific poisons for different species."
Maddy's jaw dropped. The book was quiet thick. A litter thinner than Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix. To think that it only contained spells pertaining to one topic was ridiculous. "Are you serious?"
Lila shrugged. "Faeries are immortal so they have forever to come up with new spells and each spell has its own specific spell to counter react the effects. The spells to put a person in a coma is comparatively smaller in number but you've still got at least twenty to forty different spells."
"Do you know any of the spells?" Maddy asked hopefully.
"There is a spell to put a person in a coma until a specific word is uttered, then there is another one that lasts only for a weak and then wears off. There is another one where the victim can be woken up by true loves kiss. That one was inspired by the human fairytale, Sleeping Beauty. Until we know exactly which spell has been used, finding the cure is very difficult but you needn't worry. The spell is not fatal, so you'll have time to figure out a cure."
Maddy groaned. "Still. What you are telling me is that it is hopeless."
"Not hopeless. You have two options. Either you get the incantation from the person who cast the spell and use it to get the cure, or you need the help of a certain type of faerie. They specialize in identifying spells by performing several tests and you can then find a cure."
Maddy shook her head. "No faerie is going to help us anytime soon. Our best bet would be to track down Bruce once again and force him to tell us about the spell."
Lila nodded. "I suppose you're right."
Thanking Lila, Maddy left the library.
A/N: Out of curiosity, if you could choose any one character from this series to be the main character in another series, who would you choose?
