Chapter 18

For the next week, the five of them scoured the library. It wasn't easy. There were hundreds of books in the library and some of them were even written in different languages. Everyone wanted to search the magical library so they had to take turns, switching between searching the magical library and the non-magical one.

Maddy had initially wanted to keep the library a secret to protect Lila as some werewolves might have an aggressive response on knowing that another supernatural creature had been living under their nose all the time but she couldn't go through all the books in the library alone. She would need the help of the others. Besides, her friends already knew about Lila from when she had told them, back in the Faerie Realm and she trusted them to not hurt Lila.

When she first took them to the magical library, their expressions had been filled with such amazement that they just stared for some time, trying to process what took place in front of their eyes. Maddy had to push the wolf statue, the entry point to the magical library, a number of times on their request.

"It is just like the building in India," Jeremy muttered as he examined the wolf statue and the fireplace that got converted into the library.

Once they were done seeing the fireplace disappear and the library appear a million number of times, Maddy pushed the door to the library open and they all went in. The four of them took their sweet time examining every corner of the library but that was before Lila showed herself.

"Maddy!" she said as she flew down from the higher shelves.

Maddy had never heard werewolves shriek so loud before. They had been completely distracted by the library and Lila was pretty small so they hadn't spotted her dusting the higher shelves.

"Guys, meet Lila," Maddy said with a grin, watching their expressions. Each one of them had a different expression. Xander was still recovering from the shock, Jeremy had turned red and was desperately trying to cover up his rather shrill shriek by coughing, Leia was staring at Lila with amazement and Alexa was looking at her curiously.

"But she is so... tiny," Alexa said as she used her thumb and index finger to measure Lila from afar.

"I'm not tiny," Lila protested with an offended frown. "You all are big."

Maddy grinned. This was going to be interesting. When Maddy had informed them about Lila, she had glossed over some details, including the fact that Lila was very small. She didn't know what the others had been expecting to see but based on their expressions it was definitely not a small, cheerful mini-faerie with glasses twice the size of her eyes and bright red hair.

"You are like a pixie," Jeremy commented with amusement.

Lila got more offended, if that was even possible. "Absolutely not. Pixies are vile creatures, always causing trouble and reveling in other people's misery. I'm nothing like a pixie," she said with her hands on her hips.

"Sorry," Jeremy said as he raised his hands up at Lila's rather aggressive response to being called a pixie.

"Lila, this is Xander, Alexa, Jeremy and Leia," Maddy said as she gestured towards each one of them while mentioning their names.

"Welcome to this library," Lila said cheerfully as she twirled in the air, her mood changing in an instant.

For the next few minutes, Lila chattered, talking about how amazing it was to have people in the library. Seeing how her eyes lit up when she talked, Maddy started rethinking her decision to keep the library a secret. After staying alone for so long, Lila seemed to love company. She animatedly talked, moving her hands up and down in different gestures.

Meanwhile, the werewolves stared at Lila, hanging on to every word. They were clearly amazed by the library, much like how Maddy had been when she had first stumbled up on it and Lila was more than happy to explain everything to them.

Maddy watched them with a smile on her face. It was such a wholesome moment. Watching these tall, strong werewolves attentively listening to this tiny, boisterous smo had the same effect on her as the adorable cat videos on the internet.

After half an hour of asking all sorts of questions including some very ridiculous ones and inspecting every corner of the library, they got to work.

They asked Lila about the faerie's whereabouts but from her answers it was clear that she had no clue about where they would be in the modern world. She didn't have a clue about what coffee was let alone a coffee shop, much to Alexa's horror who promised to bring coffee along with her the next time she came to the library.

For five whole days they poured over book after book, flipping through the pages, not sure what exactly they were looking for but searching anyway.

"Just saying, I didn't go through these many books for even my exams," Alexa grumbled. "You all should be extremely grateful."

This went on until Leia finally found something. "This book can't help us particularly with our situation but it has some useful information," she said as she dropped the book  she had been carrying on a table.

"Ah, yes," Lila said nodding. "I forgot this book existed. Queen Livia had gifted this book to your Alpha a long time ago to aid werewolves in performing spells."

Maddy's jaw dropped. "There was a book containing various faerie spells in the library the whole time?"

"Can we perform these spells?" Xander asked Lila.

"I don't see why not," Lila said. "You can take this book with you. I'm sure you werewolves will find it very helpful."

Alexa cleared her throat. "I don't think we should mention about this," she said as she waved her hand over the book, "to anyone outside this room."

"Why not?"

"If we tell anyone, the news will reach our dad and he currently has his hands full. First, his best friend turns out to be a supervillain who is trying to kill him and everyone he cares about and then said best friend manages to hurt his mate and now, somehow, the timeline has changed. I think he has enough on his plate."

Just hearing that made Maddy feel bad for Justin. Of all of them, Bruce's betrayal had definitely hit Justin the worst.

"Yeah," Xander chimed in. "If we tell him about this, he'll just insist that he'll take care of it and then take the book which will simply increase his burden. Not to mention he fact that if there is nothing in here that can help mom, he'll be disappointed."

"Okay," Leia said with a nod as she glanced at Maddy and Jeremy for their acceptance. "So, it's decided then. We will keep this discovery to ourselves."
