I woke up and felt something poking my cheek. I try smacking it away but each time it pokes me harder. My eyes slowly open and I see Cole... "Can I help you?" My voice is cracked because I just woke up.
"Come on. Don't you want to learn to surf?" He asks.
I fully sit up and look around, there isn't any light... And then I realize that it's 5am... "Why the hell would you wake me up this early?"
He chuckles. "Because the best waves are in the morning. Let's go!" Cole grabbed onto my waist and slung me over his shoulder.
"Put me down you idiot!" I whisper shouted while hitting his back with my fists.
"Cupcake, settle down." I continued to hit him. "I didn't know you liked it rough." I could practically hear the smirk in his voice.
"Put. Me. Down." He does what I say. "Can't we go another day?" I complain.
He shook his head. "Nope, now or never."
I go to my closet to grab an outfit. I didn't bother taking a shower considering we'll be in the ocean. After getting changed and putting my hair into a messy bun, I stepped out of the bathroom and saw Cole all ready to go.
We both walked down the stairs and I left a note for my dad telling him where we're going.
Hey dad,
Cole and I are heading to the beach to go surfing. I have my cell on me. We'll be back later.
Diana
"Ready?" Cole asked from behind me.
I nod and we make our way out the door and into his truck.
No ones out this early on a Sunday so the roads are clear of any other passing cars. The sun is just starting to rise, casting an orange and pink light over everything. The water is beautifully lit by it, I've never seen it like this.
Finally, we pull up to the beach. "Wait, don't we need surf boards?" I ask.
He shakes his head. "Diana, it's your first time out there. Did you really think you'd be actually surfing today?
I nod, giving him a 'duh' look. "Yeah, that's kind of what I expected."
"Nope, you'll be learning to balance with this." He pulls out a wakeboard from the back of his truck.
"What?! Why?" This is not what I agreed to...
"Before you get on an actual surfboard, you need to learn to balance on something smaller." He explains. "Just trust me." For some reason, I completely do.
I groan. "Fine." I take off my tank top and shorts, leaving me only in my navy blue bikini.
He smirks and grabs my hand, leading me down to the shore. We stopped and he placed the wakeboard down. "Get on it." He demands, pointing down. I does as he says and gets down on the board, laying flat on my stomach. "Good, now I have a great view of your ass."
I sit up and late at him. "Cole!"
He laughs. "Calm down. Now try it again."
I shake my head. "No way. I don't trust you anymore."
He sighs. "I promise I won't look at your ass." I roll my eyes and get back down on the board. "Ok, now I'm going to push you out further into the water and you have to keep your balance." Cole instructs. I nod and he proceeds to push me out.
Ok this is going good so far. I start to kick my legs a bit, trying to go out farther but that completely back fires on me. I end up turning on my side and going into the water. Once I stand back up Cole is laughing. "Don't laugh you moron!"
Yeah, he just continues to laugh. "I'm sorry... I can't... You... Water... Oh... God." He says in between laughs.
I stomp out of the water and throw my hands up. "I'm done!"
Cole runs up to me and wraps his arms around my waist from behind. "Oh come one, Cupcake. I was only joking."
I try to get out of his grip but that doesn't work... "Cole, let go."
He shakes his head and then rests his chin on my shoulder. "Not until you forgive me."
"I forgive you, just let go."
He chuckles and releases me. "Come on, I won't laugh."
I point my finder at him. "If you do I-"
"I won't."
"Diana, you're the most unstable person I've ever met!" Cole says to me.
I roll my eyes. "Yeah, I've realized."
"How can you not even be able to float for more than ten seconds without tipping?! You've had four hours to practice!"
"Shut up, I know!" Ok, so I'm incredibly unstable. Blame that on my brother, he never let me balance on the balance beam at the park because it was 'too dangerous'.
"I think we can call it a day." He says, I nod in agreement. "Are you hungry?"
"Yes! You've deprived me of food all morning!"
He pokes my nose. "Wouldn't want you getting a cramp and dying out there, now would we?"
I laugh. "No I guess not."
"Diana!" I look up towards the boardwalk to see the person calling my name, it's Jack.
I wave back and return the smile he's giving me then he starts to jog down where I'm at. He isn't alone, another friend of him and my brother's is along with him. I think his name is Duke...
I hear Cole groans and tilts his head back. "Why the hell is he here?"
I hit his chest with the back of my hand. "Be nice." I scold.
"The guy is a total prick." He says.
I roll my eyes. "Shut up, he is not. And besides, I've known him my whole life and don't appreciate you speaking about him like that."
"I'm sorry but I don't like him."
"You couldn't tell." I say sarcastically.
Cole grins. "I'm an awesome actor."
Jack and Duke are now in front of us. "Hey, didn't think you guys were gonna be here." Jack says. I notice that he's holding onto a surfboard, didn't know he could surf... "This is my friend Luke." He points to the guy next to him.
Close enough... Luke, Duke. Same difference.
I smile and give a small wave. "Oh hi. This is my friend Cole." I introduce.
They give a 'bro' nod. I've always been jealous of guys when they do that because if girls did that, we'd look weird... "So what are you guys doing here?" Jack asks.
"Cole here," I poke him in the ribs. "was going to teach me to surf but I'm very clumsy so it's a slow process." I explain.
Jack laughs. "I would have taught you how to surf."
"Well, she asked me." Cole states, glaring at him.
Jack just gives him a grin. "Well I've had four years to practice surfing in Australia."
"You know what-" I cut off Cole before he says something that I will regret, not him because I know he doesn't really regret anything he says.
"Cole and I were just leaving. See you at the house." I grab Cole's wrist and walk back to his car. He kept mumbling things under his breath like 'that damn prick', or 'I'll beat his ass anytime'.
We drive to a local diner called 'Suzanne's Pancake House'. Once we are parked, we both enter the restaurant and find seat. When the waitress comes, I'm filled with mixed emotions; confusion, nervousness, and over all shock. Cara Samulas is our waitress, and boy does she looked pissed. "Uh, what the hell are you doing here with her?" She asks Cole in a disgusted tone. What I don't understand is how she still looks perfect. The black pants makes her legs look longer, the yellow work shirt she's wearing makes her skin look more tan, her long brown her in a perfect ponytail.
She's perfect. That bitch.
"Obviously getting something to eat. So do your job and take our order." Cole retorts.
"What the hell Cole! You're my boyfriend!" She exclaims in a horribly high pitched tone.
"No, I'm not, nor have I ever been. You were good for a hook up, now that's it." He explains. A pang of jealousy runs through me when he says they hooked up. That lucky bitch... Did I mention she's a bitch?
"Whatever!" Then she storms off... Has she forgotten that's she's a waitress and didn't take our order?
"What now..." I say awkwardly.
He shrugs. "Now we wait for someone else to take our order."
After we finished- Or Cole finished both of our meals, we went back to my house. Dad wasn't home, he went on a date with Lisa. Jake was at some girl's house, and Jack was still with Luke. "Well looks like it's just you and I, Cupcake." Cole smirks.
I roll my eyes. "Yay." I say sarcastically.
He chuckles. "Don't hide your excitement."
"I'll try not to."
"Actually, I have to run back to my house before my mom gets home. Come with me."
I groan. "Do I have to?"
He nods and takes my hand. "Yes." He says, leading me out the door and back to his truck.
"What do you need to get for your house?" I ask once we're on the road.
"Stuff." He says simply.
"Cole!"
He sighs. "I need to get some money."
I raise an eyebrow. "What for?"
"Diana..." He says, trying not to lose his temper.
I roll my eyes. "Will you tell me some day?"
He nods. "Someday." Good enough answer for now.
"Just to let you know, I'll be at Molly's house tonight." I tell him. "So when I leave tonight, I'll just see you at school tomorrow."
"You're leaving me in a house with... Jack?!" He questions.
I nod. "Yes, I'm leaving you with Jack, Jake, and my dad."
He groans. "I hate Jack... His new name is Jackass."
I laugh. "I don't understand why you hate him!"
He turns to look at me for a moment before his eyes go back to the road. "Isn't it obvious? He's always checking you out."
"You said that, and I still don't believe you."
"Of course you don't. You think he looks at you like a sister!"
"Cole, I've told you that, that is all it is."
"The dude is into incest..." Cole mumbles under his breath. I choose to ignore that and let him believe what he wants.
We pull up to Cole's driveway and he takes his keys out of the ignition. "Ok, we have to be quick." He gets out of the car and I follow him in the house as he quickly opens the door. "Come on." He grabs my wrist and pulls me down the hallways and opens a door, his door. He frantically looks through his drawers, even under his mattress.
"Cole, calm down!" I say.
He shakes his head and continues looking. "I can't. My brother-" Then we heard the door open and Cole immediately straightened his posture. "Diana, stay behind me, ok?" I nod and we walk out of his room.
"Cole, you home?" I hear a male voice shout through the house.
We walk into the living room, and I continue to stand behind Cole. "What do you want?" Cole asks in a cold voice.
"I can't visit my baby brother?" The guy says smugly. I glance around Cole's frame to see the guy smirking, unfortunately he made eye contact with me. "Who's this?"
I step up from behind Cole. "Diana." I say.
"Nice to meet you Diana." He says with a wink, and obviously checking me out. Ugh, what is it with these Meyer boys?!
"Don't look at her like that." Cole snapped.
Cole's brother raised his hands in defense. "I won't check out your toy, my apologies."
"I'm not a toy! You're a tool!" I retort. Ok, worst comeback ever but it's all I had. It was either that or the penis thing.
"Trevor, what do you want?" Cole asks him. Oh! Now I remember his name... This is the famous Trevor.
"Fine, no sense in beating around the bush. You know exactly what I want." Trevor says.
"Not gonna happen. You'll put mom in danger and possibly get us all killed!" Cole states.
What the hell are these people talking about?! "Wait, who's dying?!" I ask aloud.
Cole ignores my question and continues glaring at Trevor. "Just go." He says.
Trevor shakes his head. "Not until you've given me it."
It? What does he... That's why Cole was acting so strange! Trevor wants money...
"No." Wow, I've never seen Cole give a one-worded answer before.
They stood there glaring at each other for a few moments, both had their arms crossed. It was extremely awkward and I almost told a joke to break the ice. 'Where was the first French fry made? In grease!' Yeah it's not my best....
"You know what? Fine! I don't need you or your God damn money!" Trevor exclaimed, stomping out of the house and slamming the door.
Cole let a heavy sigh escape his lips. "That," He started saying, pointing at the door. "is why I need to stay at your house."
"I think now is a good time to explain." I say.
He nods. "Ok, lets sit down." We walk in the kitchen and I sit down by the table while Cole sits across from me. "That was my brother, Trevor."
"I got that." I say.
"Well, he's into drugs and obviously needs money to buy them. He usually takes money from my mom, which she lets him. Anyway, my mom is gone for a couple months on a business trip and decided to close her account to Trevor. Well now that he knows that the money is gone, he thinks he can come and take it from me. Trevor doesn't ask... He steals. Which is why I needed to grab the money and go." Cole explains.
"Where is the money?" I ask.
"I thought it was in my room, but it's not. I hid it well and forgot where I put it..." He admits.
I roll my eyes. "You idiot."
"So now that he doesn't have money, the guys he owes for the drugs will either come here looking for him and beat him to a pulp, or find everyone of his family members and kill them."
My eyes go wide. "K-kill?"
He nods. "Kill."
"Why don't you give him the money?" I ask.
"Because if he is going to buy the drugs, he needs to learn to pay for them. Maybe if we stop paying for him he'll stop taking them. And besides, I don't have enough money for that. I also have bills and insurance to pay." He explains. Cole is much more mature than I thought...
I nod. "What if you get killed?"
"That's what we have to prevent. Luckily he says that he hasn't bought any drugs lately. Lets see if he can keep away."
"So you're hoping that your druggy of a brother will stay away from drugs so you don't die?" I ask in disbelief. "Cole, he's obviously going to buy more!"
"There's not much I can do about that, Diana!" I flinch at the tone of his voice. He sighs. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell. It's just that there isn't much more to do than hope."
"You can stay at my house-" Cole cuts me off.
He shakes his head. "It's actually probably best if I leave."
"What? Why?"
"I don't want to get you involved more than you already are. It's too dangerous and I never meant for you to even know about all this stupid shit!"
"Cole, you're staying at my house. It's way too dangerous for you to be living here where some drug dealers can come and possibly kill you." I state in a firm voice. He is about to speak up but I stop him. "Don't you dare try to argue. You're staying... You can sleep in my bed if you do." I mumble the last part, hoping he'll agree not hearing the last part.
He smirks, so he heard it. "Promise?"
I groan but nod. "Promise."
"Fine I'll stay, but only because you begged." He says smugly.
I roll my eyes. "I did not beg!"
"Yes you did, Cupcake."
"What am I going to do with you?" I say while walking towards the front door.
"We can do a lot of things, Cupcake." Cole smirks and opens the door for me.
I lightly push his shoulder in a playful way and make my way towards the car, Cole following. Then I stop and Cole bumps into my back. "You forgot the money!" I say.
"Oh shit, yeah... I think I know where it is." He goes to the passengers side of his car and opens the glove compartment, pulling out hundreds of dollars.
"That's the worst hiding spot ever..." I tell him.
He shrugs. "Whatever, get in the car."
We drive back to my house, staying quiet, which is comfortable.
"Ok, I'll see you later." I say to Cole as I leave my house.
"Can't you stay here?" He groans.
I shake my head. "Nope, sorry. You'll have fun, I promise! Just talk to Jake or something."
"Can I have a kiss goodbye?" He says with a lazy grin.
I pretend to gag. "Bye Cole." And with that I shut the door and get into Molly's car which is in my driveway.
"Hey." I say to her as I get in the car.
"Hey, you ready?" She asks, I nod and we drive off.
