F O U R T E E N
Diana's P.O.V.
We've been driving for about twenty minutes. After jack came to get me from the hotel, we smoothly escaped, going unnoticed by Trevor or any other gang member.
"Hopefully Cole gets back soon." I say more to myself.
"Yeah, Cole said for us to just go on." Jack said once again.
"Well when is he coming back?" I ask him.
He just shrugs. "He said he may not come back."
"What?! Jack, we have to turn around!" I panic, not knowing what else to do.
His grip on the steering wheel tightens, his knuckles turning slightly white. "Can you just forget about him?" He sneered.
I gaped at him. "Forgot about him? Jack, I love him!" Oh snap, I said that out loud. Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap.
I can't believe I just said that. Do I love Cole? I think I do. I mean, the thought of him being away literally pains me. Even now I'm just worried about him. He's constantly been on my mind since the moment he asked me for a pen. No it's too early! I've known him for two weeks! Is it possible to fall in love with someone so quickly?
Jack slammed on the brakes and pulled over. "You what?" His voice louder.
"You heard me," I say.
He shakes his head. "No! No, you can't."
"And why's that?" I ask with annoyance in my tone.
"Because I'm in love with you!" He admits.
Holy cow. What.
"I've been in-love with you forever; it's just taken me a long time to see it." He continues, whispering the last part. "Diana, please give me a chance, I love you." He begs with a pleading expression.
This is all too much.
I close my eyes and take a deep breath. "I'm sorry, Jack... I love Cole." I tell him, looking him straight in the eyes.
"Is that your final choice?" He angrily asks.
I nod, not needing to say anything else.
"Fine, then I'll make mine." He picks up his phone and dials a number. "Hello?... Yeah, kill him." Then hangs up.
"Jack, who was that?" My breathing gets heavy as panic hits me once more.
"I'm sorry Diana but if I can't have you, no one can." God, he's a freaking psycho!
"Jack. Who. Was. That?" My tone was hopefully taken as threatening but me being a 5'6, blonde, and blue eyes girl, nothing really does come off that way. I got that girl-next-door look or whatever.
"Trevor Meyer,"
My panic stricken face turns into anger. "What do you mean it was Trevor?! Who are they killing?!"
"Cole," His voice low.
Without warning, I punch him straight in the nose. "You're a damn prick, Jack." I get out of the car and start walking back towards the hotel, which is about 10 miles away. FML FML FML.
Cole's P.O.V.
"Stand up," Trevor demanded lowly, not wanting anyone around us to hear.
I did as he said and we both walked out of the restaurant and then took the elevator up so we were now at his hotel room.
Trevor suddenly grabbed both hands and twisted them painfully around my back. After he got me where I couldn't get free, he handcuffed me. Damn it. "Is all this necessary?" I hissed as he tightens the cuffs around my wrists.
Trevor chuckled. "Of course it is. You've proven yourself not to be so trust worthy."
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, sorry if I didn't want to be in a gang anymore. Considering you're the leader now I didn't know it would be that big of a deal if your brother, left." I state through gritted teeth.
Trevor punched me straight in the face, causing me to fall on the ground. I groaned in pain as my head hit harshly on the ground. He crouched down. "I never considered you my brother." He spit in my face as he talked.
"Trust me, I feel the same." I spat.
Trevor left the room after our little outburst. I'd been lying on the floor where he left, facing up, because I was incapable of getting up due to the handcuffs that trapped my wrists.
This is it, this is me truly dying.
Suddenly, the door swung open and I was expecting to see Trevor but I was pleasantly surprised on who it actually was. "Long time no see," Rafael greeted, stepping around me. He pulled me up by my upper arm.
"Thanks," I muttered.
Rafael was always a gang member that I got along with... The only one actually. He's the only one who knew I was actually leaving. Yeah, I trusted him that much.
"So, how are we gettin' you out this time?" He asks with amusement in his eyes and a small Hispanic accent.. Rafael is an older Hispanic guy, damn can he cook too.
I shook my head and shrugged. "I don't think I am this time." Gloomily, I looked around the room, mainly focusing on what Diana is doing now or thinking. Maybe she's happy about me being gone. She doesn't have drama anymore. Maybe it's good that I'm gone, gone from her life and from everyone else's.
He took a cigarette out of his pocket and lit it with a lighter. "Don't be a dumbass," He took a drag of his cigarette. "I have a plan."
I raised an eyebrow. "You do?"
He nodded. "Of course, mi amigo. When do I not?" True.
I shook my head once again but this time chuckling. "Well what is it?"
"If I told you it wouldn't work," and my hope goes down the toilet...
"Then how do you expect me to go with it?"
"I don't," He opened the suitcase that was lying on the bed and pulled out a... Bullet proof vest? What the hell... "Here," He shoved it at my chest; I guess he forgot that I can't grasp it! "Oh," He chuckled and went behind me. I guess he had a key because he unlocked the handcuffs, setting me free.
I rubbed my wrists. "Thanks,"
He waved it off. "Don't thank me yet, just put this on." He shoved the vest once more at my chest and this time I was actually able to hold it. "Put it on and act completely normal... I gotta go, see you soon." And with that, he was gone.
What the hell is going on?
"Oh Cole," Rafael called out as he popped his head out of the door. "Act dead when the time is right." Then the door shut.
Maybe I should start questioning him...
About an hour later Trevor walks back in and I quickly put the handcuffs back on me... With difficulty if I do say so myself. "Ready?" He asks overly cheerful.
I raise an eyebrow. "For?"
He chuckled. "To die of course!"
My eyes go wide. "Wait, what?! I thought I was coming back to the gang?"
He shook his head. "I can't trust you and like you said, you didn't even want to be a part of it. So I'm actually doing you a favor."
"Trevor, come on." Shit, I'm not getting out of this one.
Diana's P.O.V.
Finally, after walking for an hour, I arrive back at the hotel.
Like an idiot, I stumble on the doormat as I walk into the hotel, but luckily someone catches me. When I look up to see who did, it was him... Trevor. Maybe I'm not so lucky.
"Welcome back," He says with a grin.
I roll his eyes and get out of his grasp. "Where's Cole?" I question.
"Forget about him, after today, he won't be here anyway."
I slapped him across the face. I have sudden urges to hit people today if you couldn't tell. "Just tell me where he is!" I demand.
"He's been taken somewhere... I'm on my way to him now, care to come?" He asks in an overly sweet voice.
"Let's go,"
"Come on," Trevor says as we get out of his car.
Currently where in the middle of nowhere and I look to see an old, abandoned warehouse. No you may be thinking that I'm stupid for going with Trevor, I couldn't agree with you more. I'm an idiot.
As we walk in the warehouse, I caught site of Cole lying on the ground with bruises all over and both eyes blackened.
"Cole!" I gasp as I start running toward him. I crouch down and lift his head from the cold concrete. "Hey, it's ok." I whisper. I'm surprised I haven't passed out yet.
"Diana?" He croaks out as he slowly opens his eyes. "What the hell are you doing here?" His voice is weak but obvious anger is in it.
"Shh, don't worry about that, we have to get you out of here." I whisper. Looking behind me, I see no one looking at us. "Cole, you have to stand, we'll get you out of here." I whisper.
"Diana... No," He protests.
I roll my eyes at his stubbornness. "Yes, come on." I slowly lift him, trying to be as quiet as possible.
"Diana, stop," He barely said, his voice still weak.
"Shh," I say as we quietly make our way to the door, his arm along over my should as I wrap my arm firmly around his waist.
'We're almost there, we're almost there,' I chant in my head as we inch closer and closer to the large open warehouse door.
My hope soon comes crashing down as a gun shot went off. I look behind me to see Trevor and a few other guys standing near us, looking amused. "Going somewhere?" Trevor taunted.
"Come on, do we really need to do this?" I ask.
"We don't need you, so leave." Trevor demanded, "I only brought you here so you could see him one last time." And before I could even protest, Trevor fired three shots at Cole, each hitting his stomach. Cole automatically fell on to the ground, lying there emotionless.
"No!" I sob, crouching down. "No, no, no, please," I say through the endless tears that stream down my face. I look up at Trevor and see him packing his bag to leave. "You bastard!" I stand, then start walking over towards him. "How could you do this?!"
All he does is shrug. "Like you said, I'm a bastard. I have no feeling and killing Cole was like killing an ant. It was nothing to me," Then he walked away, the rest of the gang leaving with him.
Leaving me alone and abandoned in a place I've never been. I reluctantly look behind me and see Cole's motionless body still lying there.
Another sob escapes me as I think of all I hadn't said to him. How all I did was complain constantly around him. I never got to say that he's the funniest person I've ever met, the kindest, the fact that I love him. So many unspoken words.
Suddenly, I feel a hand on my shoulder and when I look up, I see a figure I'm not able to make out because of the tears that continue to stream down my face. "Hey," The voice comforts as I'm pulled into an embrace.
"I can't believe he's gone," I sob into the chest.
The unknown man chuckles and he pulls away, his thumb wiping away any stray tears. "I'm not gone,"
My eyes clear of tears and I see Cole standing in front of me. "What... How... Who..." I start to question my instantly. Perhaps I'm just going crazy.
He unzips his jacket. "Bulletproof vest," He points at his chest.
"Oh my god..." Then I slap his chest. "You idiot! I thought you were dead!"
He smiles. "I'm sorry, but in my defense I didn't even know you'd be here."
I roll my eyes. "I can't believe you did that," I rest my head against his chest.
He smooth's a hand over my hair. "I didn't think you'd even be this upset." He whisper.
I look back up at him, my face fallen. "Are you serious? The second I saw you lying there I felt like my world came crashing down." I admit.
Suddenly, he presses his lips to mine in a passionate kiss. It might have been closed mouth but it was still so passionate. When he pulls away, I'm once again pulled into a tight embrace. "Is this a good time to ask if you'd be my girlfriend?"
I giggle. "Probably, but I accept either way."
He places a kiss on the top of my head. "Good, because either way I wouldn't be taking no for an answer." He says with a chuckle.
