F I V E
I haven't seen Cole the rest of the school week, he hasn't even been at school. I can't help but think that something is wrong and yet I can't get myself to call him and ask. I mean it's Cole, Cole Meyer. He's probably been fighting or whatever it is that he does.
It's Friday and I'm going to Josh's party. We canceled our date and decided that I just owed him a dance. I was actually thankful he canceled because my excitement level to go on that date with him was a -10. See a typical girl would be pretty upset, but I just shrugged it off. It's not like I was that interested in him anyway,
When I walked in the house, I saw my dad sitting in the living room, which was odd because he doesn't get home till 7 tonight and it's only 3. I placed my bag on the chair beside the couch and sat on the couch across from the one he's sitting on. "Uh, hi dad." I said, he looked up from the newspaper he was reading. "Why are you home so early?"
"Hi honey, I've been meaning to talk to you and your brother... He should be here in a couple minutes." My dad told me.
It must be pretty important if he called Jake home from school... Usually Jake's classes end around 4:30 pm.
I nodded. "What's so important?"
"I'll tell you when your brother gets here." He says. "How's that boyfriend of yours?" He asked, trying to change the subject.
I almost asked, 'What boyfriend?' But then I remembered Cole told him he was my boyfriend... "Uh, we broke up." I told him, thinking of no other excuse.
"Why? He seemed like a nice boy."
Come on think Diana... Think... "He's gay," Wow.
My dad looks surprised. "Wow, I would have never guessed."
I just nodded and shrugged. "Yeah well..." I say, not really knowing what to say.
My brother walked in the door and sat on the couch next to me. "Now, dad, you can't blame me for skipping class today. You made me." Jake says smugly.
My dad rolls his eyes. "Be quiet, son. I want to announce something to you and your sister."
"What is it?" Jake and I say at the same time.
Dad took a deep breath. "I'm seeing someone."
Both Jake and I share a look that says, 'are-you-serious'. "Dad that's great!" I saix. I'm glad he's getting out and dating. Better than sitting around sulking about my... 'Mom', if that's what she is.
"Yeah, what's her name?" Jake asked.
"I'm glad you kids approve. Her name is Lisa."
"When are we meeting her?" I asked excitedly.
My dad laughed. "I was hoping that tomorrow night we could all go out to eat."
"That sounds good." I said, Jake nodded in agreement.
After our family meeting I went upstairs to get ready for the party. Molly, my best friend, is coming over so we can go to the party together. My dad is actually letting me take the car for once so we don't have to get a ride. I'm the designated driver, which is fine by me. Drinking with Cole that one night was enough to last a lifetime. I heard the doorbell ring so I went downstairs to answer it, expecting Molly , but pleasantly surprised to see no one but Jack, Jake's best friend that's been gone for nearly two years.
"Jack!" I shrieked as I quickly embraced him in a hug.
"Wow, it's nice to see you too Diana." He chuckled.
"What are you doing here?!" I asked. He moved to Australia just a few months after his high school graduation.
"I decided to take a visit since I haven't been here since senior year." He said. "Where's Jake?"
"Upstairs like usual." I said.
He laughed. "I would say things haven't changed much, but look at you. You're definetly not the brace face fifteen year old anymore."
I shrugged. "Time does that to a person."
Talking to Jack almost feels unreal. I used to have the biggest crush on him before he left, but all he ever saw me as was Jake's little sister.
"Jake!" I called from the bottom of the stairs. "You have a visitor!"
"Is it the girl from last night? If it is just tell her I'm not in the mood." He yelled down.
"No, you slut! It's Jack!" I said. His door opened the the sound of his foot steps filled the house.
"Dude, I can't believe you're here!" Jake says to Jack. The excitement they both have of seeing each other is evident on their faces.
"I know. So you don't mind?" Jack asked Jake.
"Mind what?" I asked.
"Old Jack here, is staying with us for the next month." He pats Jack's shoulder.
"You knew he was going to be here?" I asked.
Jake nodded. "It wasn't official until now really.
The doorbell rang again and I opened it to see my first guess. Molly.
Molly smiled and waved at me. "Hi! Shall we get ready?" She asked, stepping into my house. "Oh! Jack I didn't know you were in town!" She gave him a hug.
"Hi Molly, haven't changed a bit." He winked and she blushed. Jack has that effect on girls, much like Cole.
Get him out of your head Diana!
I linked my arm with Molly's. "Come on, we have to get ready!" I said dragging her upstairs.
I shut my bedroom door behind me and Molly smirks. "Jack looks really good." She said.
I rolled my eyes. "He's always looked good." We both laughed.
"But not as good as Jake..." She mumbled.
I made a gagging noise. "Don't say that about my brother in front of me." I said.
She shrugged. "I'm just stating facts."
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever, let's get ready."
Molly does my makeup and I do hers. She wore a dark strapless dress that hugs he curves perfectly. I go with a classic black party dress. Also strapless, it hits mid-thigh and has a sweetheart neckline. I pair it with my black heels.
"Ready?" I asked her. Molly nods and we both walk down stairs.
Jake and Jack are sitting on the couch watching the TV. "Tell dad I'll be back around one." I tell Jake.
They both turn their head and their mouths shape an 'o' shape. Jack is the first to stand and then Jake. "You l-look great." Jack stuttered.
I blush. "Thanks..."
"Yeah, you look good Molly." Jake say.
She must feel on top of the world. Molly has always had the crush on my brother that I never understood... "Thanks."
I linked my arm with hers. "Well, we must be going." I drag her outside and we both get into the car.
"He said I looked good!" Molly squealed.
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, awesome..."
She laughs. "Jack said you look great." Molly says way over dramatically while wiggling her eyebrows suggestively.
I feel my cheeks heat up again at the memory. "I know..." I mutter.
"Diana, he's totally into you!" She exclaims, pointing her finger at me.
I look at her like she had three eyes.. "What?! He's my brother's best friend, and besides, I don't feel the same way for him even if he did like me." I told her honestly, and I meant it. Those feelings I had for Jack aren't there anymore. Sure he's attractive but I think of him more as a brother than a... Boyfriend.
"Bull shit. You've had a crush on him forever." She states.
"Had, I had a crush on him, as I'm past tense. I no longer do. Feelings do ware off Molly."
"Not mine..." She mumbles and I laugh. At this point, she's in love with my brother. Gross...
We pull up to Josh's house and the place is packed. People are all over the front lawn drinking and such. I get out and Molly follows. "Ok, before we go in, make sure you have your phone on at all time. Call me if you have any trouble." I toldl her. See, Molly is quite the partier. One time she got so wasted she ended up in the next town over and I had come get her. The things I do for my best friend.
She rolls her eyes. "Yes mom."
"I'm serious Molly, I can't be picking you up town from town again." I explained.
She let out a sigh. "I get it, I'll calm it down a bit. Now let's have fun!" She exclaimed and hurried inside.
Opening the doors, the music hit my ear. They're playing 'Wild Ones' by Flo Rida. People are grinding on each other and making out in corners. I walked through the crowd of people, pushing anyone who gets in my way and entered the kitchen. I bent down to grab a water bottle from the cooler.
"Hey Diana." I snapped my head up to see that Josh is standing in the doorway.
"Oh hey." I smiled.
He took a couple steps towards me. "You look hot; wanna give me that dance your promised?" Talk about a direct approach... He was also obviously drunk.
"Uh, sure." I took his hand and he lead me into the crowd of people.
We stopped in the middle of the dance floor and he placed his hands on my waist as I wrapped my arms around his neck. Our bodies are barely pressed together, I don't mind because his breath reeks of alcohol.
I sway my hips to the rhythm of the music and he moved with me. His eyes are closed while mine looked around the room, stopping at the pair of eyes that are glaring at me; Cole Meyer.
If looks could kill, Josh would be dead. I try to get myself to look away but I literately am stuck looking at him, until he grabs some random girl and starts sucking her face. I felt anger rise in me and I decided to grab Josh's face and smash my lips to his. He doesn't object, seeing as he's completely drunk. The kiss is sloppy and wet, nothing like Cole's firm yet soft kisses.
I really need to stop comparing guys to Cole...
I pulled away from the kiss and Josh has a wide grin on his face. "Dang baby, where'd you learn to kiss like that?" He slurred.
I roll my eyes. "I'm just awesome." I mumbled sarcastically.
"What's that baby?" He asks while his grip on my waist tightened.
Right when I was about to reply, I look back at Cole, he released the girl and started stalking over here. "Uh, Josh... I have to... Go." I quickly got out of his grasp and sprinted upstairs hoping he didn't see me.
Once I'm in the hallway I'm a bit confused where to go. All the rooms I've enter have been... Occupied... Let's just say I'm scarred for life.
"Going somewhere?" I spun around the see that the familiar voice came from Cole, and he does not look happy.
I scoffed. "No, but I have to go-" I begin to walk past him but he has me pinned up against the wall, his arms on both sides of my head, caging me in.
"What the hell were you doing kissing... Josh." He spat out in an annoyed tone.
"It's none of your business. Now get off!" I said pushing on his chest, attempting to get him to move. Yeah, no such luck.
"Are you two together now?" He asked, disgust in his tone.
"No, but even if we were, it's not any of your damn business! Don't you have some other girl's face to suck?!"
His classic smirk comes back. "You jealous?"
I decided a different approach than rather yelling and telling him off. I put on a sinister smirk of my own. "Are you?"
He looks a little taken back by my response but his smirk is back on within seconds. He leans closer so that his lips are close to my ear. "Absolutely," He takes my earlobe in my ear and bites on it softly, a low moan leaving my lips. "When I said that you're mine, I meant it."
"Then why have you been ignoring me?" I asked, my question taking him off guard.
"I had... Family issues." He said, of course that would be his answer. His secretive response to everything makes me even more curious. All I know about Cole is what people tell me
"Keeping secrets again?"
"They've always been mine to keep, Cupcake." That's one thing I didn't miss, that damn nickname!
I pushed his chest and he took a couple steps back. "We should go down stairs."
He shrugged. "We could always stay up here." He said with a mischievous glint in his eye.
"In your dreams," I said and then walked down the stairs.
Once we're at the bottom of the stairs, Cole grabs my waist from behind and pulls me into his back. "You are definitely in my dreams."
I let out a 'ha' and playfully nudged him in the ribs. We both walked out to the dance floor and before he could take me and dance with me, I needed to find Molly. "I'll be back." I tell him.
He caught a hold of my arm. "Don't go by Josh." He said, but it sounded more like a demand.
I rolled my eyes and pretend to salute him. "Yes sir."
"Diana, I'm not kidding." Worry obvious in his tone.
"I won't." I assured. He let go of my arm and I went on a search for my best friend...
After an hour of searching I feel like giving up... And then I hear cheering. I ran to the basement and I see Molly begin to take off her clothes... Damn it, they're playing Truth or Dare. I rushed over to her and placed both her arms to her side. They all 'boo' me but I rolled my eyes and dragged her upstairs.
"Aw come on Dianney!" She whined... What the hell kind of nickname is that? I'll take cupcake over that any day... "I was having fun!"
I pat her head. "I know, but all fun must come to an end." I try to reason, though it's useless. "I'll get you a chocolate shake if you come home." Yes I did stoop low and go for her ultimate weakness.
Molly's face brightened up. "I love those!" She slurred. I laughed and walked her out the door towards my car.
"Wait! Diana!" I turn around to see Cole coming up to me. "Where are you going?"
I point to Molly. "I have to get her home-" She cut me off.
"To get me a chocolate shake!" She slurred. "You're really cute." She cooed at Cole. I rolled my eyes while Cole smirked. The last thing that boy needs is a bigger ego... "Can I just have you instead?" She asked, coming closer to him.
"Whoa there, let's get you a chocolate shake then see how you feel about him." I said while leading her to the passenger seat, Cole followed.
Once I shut the door I turned to face him. "Um, I have to go. See ya later."
"I'll come with." He said, getting into the backseat before I can protest.
I get into the driver's seat. "What about your car?" I ask him.
"I came with a friend." He says.
"You have friends?" I joke.
"Har har." He retorted.
"The hot guy is coming with us?! This is awesome!" Molly exclaimed.
"Shut up, Molly, or no chocolate shake." I threatened. She pretended to zip her lips and throw away the key.
After getting her the chocolate shake, Cole helped me bring her inside and laid her on the couch. "Thanks," I whisper, not wanting to wake anyone up. "She really loves parties." I lightly laugh.
"No problem. Can I stay here tonight?" He asked.
I bit my lower lip in contemplation. "Well, I don't know how my dad will feel about that."
"One, your dad loves me, and two, if you don't stop biting your lip, I'll have no choice but to kiss you." He said... Maybe I should keep biting my lip.
Going with my better judgment, I release my lip. "Well, I kind of told him we broke up." I said, referring to our fake relationship.
"Why?"
"Well, for starters we weren't and aren't really dating, and plus you didn't talk to me the rest of the week." I explained.
He nodded. "What did he say?"
I nervously laughed. "Well, he asked why..." I trailed off.
He raised his hand, gesturing for me to continue. "And?"
"I uh, told him you were... Gay?"
His face was literally frozen in shock. "You told him I was gay?!"
"Shh!" I hissed. "You'll wake everyone up."
"Diana is that you?" I hear Jack's voice from upstairs. There goes not waking everyone up...
Cole's face tuned into confusion. "Who's that?"
I avoid his question. "Yes, it's me." I said back to Jack.
I heard footsteps come down the stairs. "Oh good you're home-" He stops mid-sentence when he sees Cole. "Who's this?"
"This is Cole. Cole this is Jack." I introduced.
Jack smiled at me. "Just wanted to make sure you're ok."
I return a smile. "Yeah, I'm fine."
We said goodnight and he closed my door as he walked away.
"Who the hell is that?" Cole questioned, jealousy oozing from his voice.
"Calm down, it's my brother's best friend." I said.
"And why is he here?"
I shrugged. "He needed a place to stay."
"There are plenty of hotels around here." Cole stated. Why the hell was he so pissed?
I rolled my eyes. "What's wrong with you?"
He crosses his arms like a toddler having a tantrum. "What's wrong with me? Well that Jack guy was totally checking you out."
Scowling at him, I shook my head. "No he wasn't! He's like a brother!"
Cole let out a non-humorous laugh. "Then he really likes his sister."
"Cole, he doesn't like me like that. He's Jake's best friend." I tried to reason.
"So?! I banged my best friend's sister sophomore year!"
I made a face of disgust. "Well Jack isn't like you, a man whore."
"Of course he is! He's a guy! We're all the same."
"Oh, so the only reason you're hanging out with me is to get in my pants?" I questioned, getting more and more irritated by the second.
His face goes blank and he shook his head. "No, that is not what I am trying to do and you know it."
"I thought you said, 'all guys were alike'?" I mimiced his deep voice. "And no Cole, I don't know that. Hell, I just met you last Monday!"
He smirked. "Cupcake, you and I both know I don't sound like that. But I'm serious Diana, I'm not just using you. Trust me, if all I wanted from you was sex, I'd have you screaming my name the day I met you." He cockily said.
I blushed furiously. "Whatever, I'm going to bed." I walked up the stairs and I didn't realize Cole was following me until I started to shut my door. "What are you doing?"
"Going to sleep?" He moved through the door and walked towards the bed.
"You get the floor." I said.
He shook his head. "It's not like I haven't been in your bed before." He smirked.
"Fine, I'll take the floor." Before I can even grab a pillow he grabs a hold on me and we both laid on the bed. "What the hell? Let me go!"
His hold on me tightened. "I need something to sleep with." He murmured into my hair.
"Fine, I'll get you a teddy bear."
"I prefer a Diana."
"Well I prefer when you go home." I said, his hold tightened on me as I struggled to get away. Can I at least get up and change?" I asked.
"Why? I like you in this dress." I could hear the smirk in his voice.
"Cole..." I warned.
He laughed. "Fine, but I'll be waiting." His voice gave me chills in that moment.
I got up as fast as I could and got changed into some cotton shorts and a loose T-shirt. Walking back into the room, I was a little taken back at what was before me. A shirtless Cole, who is only in his boxers. His perfect abs on display. "You done checking me out cupcake?" He smirks.
My cheeks heated up. "I wasn't checking you out..." I mumbled as I got into bed, scooting as far say as possible from him.
"Aw, no need to be embarrassed." He says, then I feel his warm breath on the back of my neck. "I check you out all the time." Then the warmth was gone. He went back to his normal laying position, leaving me stunned as he always did.
