Chapter 14
We ride our horses down the path in the orchard. People all around us are tending to the different types of flowers, Acid pointing out which ones are poisonous and which ones are not, a smile on their face as they talk about the flowers.
"I used to help the royal gardeners before I left. I really like flowers," they say. They pick one of the non poisonous ones from a bush and hand it to Waves. Waves smiles and takes it, putting it into her hair. The blue of the flower looks nice with the clothes that she's wearing.
Acid picks a bunch more flowers and rides their horse as they make a flower crown. They finish it and set it on top of their head, turning to us and smiling.
"It looks so cute!" I say. They smile and pick some green flowers, making another flower crown. They ride in between Ebony and Waves' horses and hands me the flower crown. I smile at them and set it gently down on my head.
"Thank you," I tell them. They laugh and nod, going back to the edge of the paths. They pick more flowers and make crowns for everyone, except for Ebony, who insists that the just have one to put in his hair. We keep riding, Acid looking really happy amongst all the flowers.
"Another person went missing last night," someone says from the orchard. I pull on my reigns and my horse slows to a stop. The others stop beside me and we get off of our horses. The people keep talking and I realize that they're somewhere in the middle of the orchard.
Acid leads us over to where the people are talking about the people going missing. They turn to us as we walk over, luckily not seeming to recognize Acid at all. They look at the flowers in our hair and scowl, chiding us for picking the flowers.
"I made sure to only pick the ones that were going to die soon," Acid assures them. They seem to relax at that and nod, smiling at us for the first time.
"Who had gone missing?" Waves asks them. One of them goes back to tending to the flowers while the other one looks us over as if trying to figure out if giving that information to us would be harmful to them. They finally shrug.
"I don't know all of them but I could take you to the library so you can check the town records," the one who isn't tending to the flowers says. I nod and thank them. We walk over to our horses and get on, following the person on their horse to the library.
The stop in front of the building and nod at us before riding back off to the orchards. We tie our horses up in the small stables and walk inside the library. Acid tells us that it's the main library and it's where all the official documents in the Poison Kingdom get signed.
Ebony walks up to the information desk and the lady working there points to a stack of newspapers. We walk over and sit down on the couches and armchairs spread around the room, reading through the newspapers and finding that there's more than three hundred people in the Poison Kingdom that have gone missing.
There aren't any pictures besides the ones of the people who have gone missing and a warning to keep on the look out for them. I lean back in the chair and read through more of the newspapers, looking at the pictures of the people who have gone missing.
Most of them lived completely normal lives, and the ones that weren't just normal people were usually warriors or very wealthy. There isn't much on why they went missing or how, mostly just information about their lives before they went missing and what they look like.
"This is really weird," Acid whispers from beside me as they grab another newspaper from the stack. I nod and keep reading mine. A person walks over and taps me on the shoulder. I look up from where I'm reading and the others look up with interest as well.
"My partner was taken," they tell us. People from all around the library look over with curious eyes and then seeing the person, scowl and shake this heads. I look back at the person, wondering what they had to do to get ridiculed like this, as well as if we can trust them.
"Follow me. We can talk at my house," they say. I finally nod, deciding to go with them and get up from my chair, setting my newspaper back into the pile. We follow them outside of the library and tell them to wait so we can get our horses from the stables. We walk over to the stables, opening the door.
I untie my horse from a post and hop on him, scratching him behind the ears. We ride out of the stables and follow the person to their house. They stop in front of a small cottage and get off their horse, leading them to a small stable at the side of their cottage.
We tie our horses to the fence and wait for them to get back from their small stable. A couple minutes later they walk to the front of the house and open the door. We follow them inside and they gesture for us to sit down on their sofa.
We sit down and I look around the room, seeing that they have shelves full of hard and candles all around their living room. There are a bunch of herbs and different things in the jars and I realize that they probably practice witchcraft, which is most likely why they got weird looks from everyone at the library.
"My partner went missing two weeks ago in the middle of the night," they tell us. I look away from the the shelves and over to the person sitting on the armchair. Tornado leans forwards and lays his head on his hands looking at the person.
"I was awake, but neither of us could see the person," they say.
