AN- Before We Start
So we've all been there... yep, that's right, the first day of high school. That feeling that you get reminds me of the anticipation I got when I'm about to jump off a 5m diving board. You're scared, but also excited aswell.
There's so much to dread: the workload, homework, teachers, tests/assessments and most of all, your peers. Will they be annoying? Funny? Cute? Smart?
But you're also excited: new friends, new things to learn about and relationships. And then when you finally find the perfect friend group, you just feel like everything in the world is right.
But high school is usually perceived as something scary, where there is detention-giver-outerers (is that a word?) everywhere, drug dealers, and bullies around ever corner. When really, every single high school is different.
This book is about what it's like in the world of a 12-year-old -going on 13- girl when she enters those school ground, everyday of every 10 weeks, of those 4 terms, for the very first time in her life.
It also tells us about her home, social, and emotional, physical and mental sides of life. What it is like for her to live in a split home with siblings coming out of her ears, her friendships group which consists of mostly boys because that's who she mainly gets along with, her first ever emotional attchment to the other gender that is not her family, being gluten-free and forever worrying and being the strangest person on the planet in her mind.
But when she shows signs of psychosis, her thought become reality, the world around her literally changes and she is transported to places unimaginable. Clarity starts to believe the world is against her, but it isn't.
Something is wrong with her... but what?
Her father denies it, thinking it's 'just puberty', but her father suspects something else. Clarity knows something is wrong because everything feels real, but it's not.
Maybe she really is insane...
The new boy thinks otherwise. He knows that Clarity has some kind of disorder, and because he has seen the symptoms in his sister. He knows how to get her parents to realise she isn't just the normal fresh teenager they thought she was...
Her journal will capture every moment... even the hallucinations she experiences, and the new feelings she didn't know she could feel.
Will they be able to save her sanity?
