Bad News

I held back a groan, my head pounding.
Sitting up made my vision swim, but I forced myself to stay sitting up until I could see clearly.

I was in a sort of basement room, my hips hurt from the hard floor I'd been dumped on.

Looking around, I found there was little light, not that the lack of light stopped me from being able to see the little form in the corner curled up.

The little boy was shaking softly with a coat around his shoulders. He was staring at me with red eyes.

I turned so I was facing him before feeling something uncomfortable on my thigh.

It was a bit awkward, shuffling to grab it out of my pants, but I realized it was the object I'd ripped off of my attacker.

The object was a small bag, that held a key.

Had I really accidentally grabbed the key to the room I was locked in? I doubted it, but it wouldn't hurt to try it.

I took it out and looked at the door.
Perking up my ears, I listened hard for anyone near by. There were foot steps in a pacing nature, but they were up a floor, no one was down here.

I crept over to the door quietly, inserting the key, so far so good.

Swallowing silently, I whistled softly as I turned the key. My whistle covered the clicking sound that signaled the lock being undone and I smiled.

Slowly, I opened the door, praying it wouldn't squeak, it didn't, and I stared into a wide basement that had a few more rooms off to the side.

I listened hard, but the only other sounds of breathing were coming from me and the small child behind me.

I turned back to him and held out an arm. First things first, I had to get them out of here, who ever took me wasn't gonna treat this kid very well. If I couldn't get away, I wanted to make sure they did.

The little boy stared at me in surprise before quickly running over into my arms. They were barefooted, but I scooped them up before they made too much noise.

I slipped out of the room in a crouch, looking around while holding the little boy close to my chest. He was light, very much so, and I had a feeling he hadn't eaten very much.

I'd have promised to keep him safe, if I wasn't so focused on not making a sound.

Crossing the open room wasn't difficult. It was dark and there weren't any windows.

The only light came from a case of stairs on the other side. I hid beside them, trying to peek up them. There wasn't anyone there. I perked my ears once more and heard the pacing again, they were a little ways off from the stairs. If I timed it right, I could make a break for it.

Before doing so however, I put the kid down, which was a bit difficult since they wouldn't let go at first.

I took off my scarf and spread it over my knee.

I took the kid's hand and formed a finger before spelling on my leg 'R-E-A-D-?'

The little boy took a minute before recognition appeared in his eyes and he nodded.

I smiled at him before pointing at my scarf and then spelling 'A-L-P-H-A'.

The little boy took another minute before frowning at me, but he nodded.
I offered him another smile as I wrapped the scarf gently around his neck and picked him up again.

I listened for the pacing to get a little closer to the stairs before I started creeping up them.

Then once the steps started away from the steps, I bolted.

This was when I realized we weren't in a house, but a cabin. All the better for me, I knew a lot about cabins, including that they had a lot of windows, and we were on the ground floor now.

I made it to the living room before someone launched at me with a shout.

"Hey!"

I ducked under him, feeling the little kid's grip tighten. I grabbed the back of the kid's head as gently as I could, pressing it close to my body while jumping out the nearest window.

The cabin was on a hill that I proceeded to tumbled down while still hanging on to the kid.

However, at the bottom of said hill, were a quarry of rocks.

I wasn't hurt too badly, other than a few bruises and scrapes, and one very painfully twisted ankle. Once we reached the bottom, I knew I wouldn't be able to get away, not that I'd expected to. Only luck had gotten us this far.

"Come on." The kid tugged at me, but I shook my head.

"Go." I told him and smiled.

He frowned at me but when shouting could be heard. He looked back up the hill.

I couldn't move very well, besides the scrapes and bruising, I was practically glass when it came to taking a hit.

I blocked the oncoming wolves from the kid's view so he'd look at me.

"Go." I told him again before dropping my hand.

He stared at me for another second before finally scrambling and running off into the forest.

"He's gonna get away!"

"Leave him."

I felt my blood turn cold as I heard the commander of these wolves speak.

"He's no use now, just put her back in the room, and find out how she got out!"

I forced myself to turn my head towards the voice as a couple of men grabbed me roughly and hauled me to my feet.

I hissed when putting pressure on my ankle, but I glared at the blue eyed Brunette who smirked back at me.

"What?" She asked innocently.

"Why?" I asked her, making her snort.

"Why? What kind of stupid question is that? You think you were the only wolf our dear 'Alpha' took a fancy to?" She asked raising a brow before her expression turned sore and she slapped me.

"He loved me first, I was supposed to become Luna. But my sweet stupid Mate got impatient and instead challenged him privately." She growled before starting back up the hill.

"That idiot went so far north that after he 'killed' the Alpha, he lost his way and froze to death!" She snapped as we got back to the cabin.

She then turned back to me.

"I would have been Luna either way. Seeing as my mate had won, but then after a few short weeks. Kale. Came. Back!"

She slapped me again, I didn't think it was necessary, but this girl obviously had lost her mind.

I didn't understand how I hadn't recognized the true hostility behind her gaze when we'd first met, I'd thought she was just bitter. But perhaps her bitterness was stronger than I'd originally read it to be.

"And just when you're finally leaving, that stupid Beta has to stick her nose in other's business. I'd have killed her if we didn't need her to tell the Alpha you'd left."

"She wouldn't tell him that!" I spoke up before I could help myself. I don't know why I'd said anything, the girl just laughed at me.

"She'll barely remember you telling her you wanted to leave. Then a few of my friends will 'casually' mention seeing you leave before Benji passed out, too much exertion." She said in a tauntingly sweet voice.

I frowned. What was the point of this? Why go through so much trouble?
The girl hummed.

"Go ahead and ask that stupid question again, it's not like you'd understand, being an Omega." I frowned at that. "Once you're out of the picture, the Alpha will finally realize that I'M supposed to be his mate. That I should be made Luna. Not a stupid Mutt like You!"

I straightened.

"You don't even care about Kale, you didn't even care about your own Mate did you? You just wanted the power." She didn't deny any of my words, or even react to them.

"Aren't Omega supposed to be the quiet type?" She asked raising a brow.

I growled.

"Stop calling me that!" I snapped.

"Calling you what you are?" She asked.

"Stop it!" I barked pulling against the men who were restraining me.

The girl simply slapped me again.

"Omega are supposed to stay in line or be punished. Perhaps you need to be reminded of that." She told me before pointing back at the basement.

The men started dragging me towards the stairs when I caught sight of a little brunette who was standing in the living room.

Her brown eyes met mine for only a second before she looked away, her entire person racked with guilt. It was the girl from the supermarket. Had this girl been trying to make me look stupid? Trying to make me doubt myself? But why?
