Chapter two

I sat outside the doctor's office. Today was day one of Aiden's plan to getting me to change my mind. Aiden purposefully sat beside me, to make the doctors and nurses think we were together, which we were not. That also caused us to lie to the office people as we were coming in for a check-up.

"Mrs. Brooke Parker and Mr. Aiden Miller?" A nurse said, walking up to us, looking on her clipboard. We both nodded and stood up. The nurse shook both of our hands. "Please come this way," she gestured towards the room beside us. When we walked in, the nurse turned around to face us, while flipping through some papers. "Now, I'll just ask a few questions, while the doctor comes in," she cleared her throat. Aiden and I sat down in the empty chairs beside us, "Okay, so according to your file, Mrs. Brooke, you are still a high school student?" she raised her eyebrows.

It took me self-control not to snap back at her, so instead I replied as politely as I could, "Yes, that is correct."

The nurse nodded her head like one of those head bobber dolls. "What grade are you in?"

"12th." I mumbled.

"I see, and are you the father of this baby, sir?" she asked Aiden.

"No ma 'me."

"Are you Brooke's Brother then?" she asked, letting out a big sigh. Her attitude made me want to stand up and walk out without saying a word.

"No ma 'me." Aiden said again. The whole time acting respectful. I still didn't know why he acted calm all the time.

The nurse put down her clipboard. "Sir, I hope you realize that only family or the father is allowed here."

I fought the urge to roll my eyes. I was amazed at how well Aiden was taking this situation. "Nurse..." he searched for her nametag, identifying her name. When he found it, he continued, "Nurse Alexia, I understand that, but her mother couldn't make it here due to work, and the father of the baby had a an important tour to attend to. I am just a friend." That wasn't a lie, indeed, the father and my mother couldn't come here. I was happy at how easily he put the words together. I would have mumbled endlessly. Plus, I'm sure Aiden is older than me.

The nurse looked from Aiden to me, then back at Aiden again. "Very well," she sighed, "Brooke, please sit at the end of this bed while I'll go get the doctor." I obediently did as she told me, leaving the seat I have grown comfortable in. Even though this wasn't that bad, my heart still pounded. When the nurse left, Aiden let out a big sigh, smiling at me.

"Why couldn't she just ask for our age, I mean, technically, I am not underage." I told him.

Aiden shrugged, "I don't know, it would have been a lot easier." He agreed. After a while, he asked, "How old are you anyway?"

"18, you?"

"19, hoping to get my last semester of high school done before Christmas."

"Oh." I nodded thoughtfully, "Doing online classes or something?"

"Yeah, it's harder than you think." He laughed.

The doctor finally knocked on the door, and came in. He also had a white uniform that differed only slightly from the nurses. "What seems to be the chatter?" he joked. I can already tell I was going to like him more than the nurse.

Aiden smiled, "Doctor Turner!"

"Aiden? What are you doing here?" The doc asked, he looked pretty amused. But I was still stunned as to how they know each other.

"I came in here with my friend." Aiden looked over at me.

"So I've heard," Doctor Turner murmured, "I definitely hope you are not the father of the baby, your father won't be too proud." He looked through several papers in his hands.

"No, you can calm down." Aiden laughed.

The Doctors face livened up a bit after hearing that he's not the father. "Ahem." I spoke up, I couldn't go on anymore by not knowing. Their heads turned to me expectantly, "Um...I'm so confused as to how you two know each other?"

Aiden grinned, "He's my uncle." Great. I don't know if his answer made me feel nervous, or the fact that Doctor Turner is related to Aiden.

The Doctor smiled, "Alright, let's get this started, I'm sure you don't want to be waiting any longer than you already have. Please slide up your head to the end of the bed, while I put this gel on your stomach. It will be cold, but it won't hurt at all." I did as he asked me to do, and pulled up my shirt just enough so he can do the ultrasound. The gel was very cold, and I almost shivered, when he put the transducer to my skin, and started moving it around. Seconds later, I saw a monitor light up, and there on the screen, was the real baby inside of me. I was mesmerized by the scene before my eyes, to the point to where I was awed. It's little hands were over its chest, and it's tiny feet were outstretched.

"Well," Doctor Turner said, as he finished up, and was printing out the pictures from the ultrasound. "The baby is very healthy, and it looks like it will be a girl. You are almost 5 months pregnant, which is good!" He gave me some tissues, so I can wipe away any remaining gel that was still on my stomach. After I was done, the doctor helped me up, so I can fix my outfit. "And listen you too," He looked from Aiden to me, "if at any point, you need help, don't hesitate to ask, I'm sure Aiden will give you my number." He gave me the pictures from the ultrasound.

I nodded my gratitude, as we left the room. I was still shocked by the scene in there. The baby was so small and helpless.

Aiden guided me back to his car that he drove me in. From a distance, you would probably think that we were a couple, but inside, I just wanted to go home and hide in my room, but at the same time, I still couldn't believe that a live organism was growing inside of me. This was only the first day, my mind was still set on abortion. I don't know how I'll take care of the baby after it's born.

"Aiden, you okay?" I just noticed that he hadn't said anything through the whole ultrasound, other than a good-bye to his uncle after.

He looked up at me, after he turned onto the freeway towards home. "Yeah, of course I am. How are you feeling though?"

He may be a calm church boy, but he had a habit of changing the subject. Like, no matter how many times I ask him about his feelings, the conversation always shifts back over to me.

"I'm...great, I guess, but I asked you." I looked at him, and it seemed like I just started noticing the small details about him. Like how he seemed to run his hand through his hair when he's nervous or doesn't know what to say, or the way he grips the steering wheel when a crazy driver sharply pulls up in front of him. He stuck out his hand out of the window, his shaggy ashy brown hair jumped around in the wind. I was glad I put my blondish hair up in a ponytail before he started driving.

He chuckled, "It has nothing to do with you, I was glad I took you to the ultrasound, that nurse really gave me a headache." He finally admitted his dislikes for that nurse.

I laughed, "I was beginning to think you're like iron man for second."

He also laughed, "Are you glad I'm not iron man?"

I grinned, "Yeah, but that would be kinda cool."

He pulled up in front of my small house, from where he picked me up to go to the doctor. And yes, we both skipped school because of that. He cut the engine.

"Do you want me to walk you to the door?" He asked.

I shook my head, "I have legs of my own you know, this is only the fourth month. Besides, what would mom say."

He shrugged, "I'll see you in school, I guess."

"Yeah, I guess I'll see you...again." He waited till I came inside the house before he drove away. Once he was gone, that frown returned to my face. Why does he keep doing this to me?

"Why are you home, sweetheart?" I heard mom's voice say behind me. I whirled around. Out of all days, she had to be home. The moment I forget to wear a sweatshirt to cover my stomach. So I instinctively cross my arms over my chest, but that made it more noticeable. Mom looked up and down and me, soon her expression turned from anger to sadness, then back to anger, as if she couldn't make up her mind. "Is there something you need to tell me?"

"Mom..." I started saying, but she cut me off.

"Please tell me you aren't pregnant, and that boy is not the father."

My own anger seemed to get in the way of my words, "Mom, let me explain," I paused, thinking she's going to say something, when she said nothing, I continued, "Yes, I am pregnant, and no, that boy is not the father. He's a friend from school, we just came back from the doctor."

Mom continued to stay silent.

"Mom, I..."

"Why didn't you say something sooner?" She finally said, as she pleaded with me, "I could have helped in some way. Maybe we could have gotten rid of it when you found out. Who is the father?"

I shrugged my shoulder, "The father is not in this state."

"Then why were you so stupid enough to get in bed with him?" She was practically screaming.

"Mom, I wasn't stupid...." I tried saying that as calmly as possible, but she continued to rant on.

"Then why are you pregnant now?! You do realize that this ruins your future, doesn't it?"

The tears stung my eyes, but I refused to let them fall, not yet, anyway, "I just needed the money."

"For what?" Her wolf eyes glared at me."

"For college." I clenched and unclenched my fists.

"Bet you didn't expect to get pregnant! Did that thought ever cross your mind?"

I couldn't take this any longer, so I turned and left to my room, all the way down the hallway to my room, she kept screaming my name, but I didn't reply. Honestly, the thought of becoming pregnant crossed my mind many times, but I was desperate for the money, especially since mom was always working and paying for the house and her car, we didn't have a lot of money to spend it on clothes or food. I closed my door, and fell on my bed, I'll just go to sleep early tonight. Tomorrow is another day at school full of stares and gossip from the Barbie's and the Jocks. I closed my eyes, and went into a dreamless black hole.
