19| Beware of Poison Ivy

***

I was placing the finishing touches on Harley's suit having finally finished it after so long. Harley wasn't a very patient person and the fact that I was taking so long was beginning to frustrate her, but for some reason I seemed to have alack of inspiration to finish it.

Nights in Gotham seemed to become increasingly chaotic as the Holiday Killer seemed determined to destroy the Falcone Crime family. Oddly enough I couldn't imagine a Gotham without the Falcone's in power, for as long as I remembered they were the most powerful family in Gotham.

"It wasn't like that I swear!" I heard Harley plead, her voice echoing throughout the building. Harley was characteristically loud but there was a desperation in hot voice that was unusual. "I love ya Ives."

Running out of my room I looked ran down the staircase that led to the living room where Harley and Ivy were facing each other. Tears running down both of their face, however Ivy's seemed to stem from anger more than anything else.

"Clearly not enough. Since you can't stop trying to fix me." Ivy replied through gritted teeth as the plants around the room seemed to grow in size becoming increasingly menacing as the rose around her. There was no knowing wether she was aware that this was happening but the anger and sadness in her voice was alarming. "You never really understood. You were the only one who gave me hope for humanity. A bright spot in the darkness. You were the reason why I ever gave them a chance."

I was frozen in place watching the two of them fight unsure of what may have caused it, but aware of how inevitable it was. But there was something in Ivy's words that also seemed to leave me in shock from their vulnerability. A vulnerability that only ever shinned with Harley.

"Well, you've never understood my relationship with Mr. J either." Harley yelled in return. However, unlike before it seemed that she was becoming anger too. I felt that this conversation was too personal to watch but they both seemed like that were seconds from losing control. "It's not my fault you're always jealous!"

"I'm not jealous!" Ivy screamed as the plants all around us reached out to attack Harley, and without thinking I found myself running down the last couple of steps.

"Ivy!" I yelled as I ran between the two horrified at what was happening. Sure, Ivy and Harley had become estranged but I would have never imagined that things would get this terrible between the two. "Ivy wait! You don't want to do this."

"But I do." She replied as the planet life around me continued to try to reach out to Harley.

I took a single step towards Ivy looking her in the eyes and shaking me head. Hoping that she saw reason without any words, because if I knew anything about Ivy was that she did not like being lectured or told what to do. "No... you don't."

Ivy nodded as all the plantlike around use went still. For some reason I expected her to break down in tears but instead she walked out of the room without a single word. Instead it was Harley who ran out of the building crying leaving me standing on my own.

With a sigh I walked back up the stairs headed towards by room feeling emotionally exhausted by everything that happened. I could not see any way that Harley and Ivy would ever be able to reconcile now. There were something things that you s imply couldn't fix after you've broken them. That was something that I knew too well.

"Well, that was quite a lovers quarrel." Selina said her voice hallow. Looking down the hall I noticed that her bedroom door was ajar. Pushing it open I watched as Selina filed down her perfectly manicured nails at her vanity.

"You heard? And you didn't do anything?" I questioned feeling my anger towards Selina begin to take a hold once again. I had been able to forget the events of Christmas, but now I was beginning to find myself disappointed in Selina. "Ivy could have killed her!"

"She would never hurt Harley."

Selina was a secretive and distant person by nature, qualities that undoubtedly made her a perfect match for someone like Bruce Wayne. But since Christmas she seemed to have completely shut down, and I was beginning to believe that Bruce had nothing to do with this. Every attempt that she made to discover whether Carmine Falcone was her father quickly led to a dead end. "You don't know that."

"Couples fight." Selina replied dryly not looking up from her nails. "Sometimes you just have to let them figure things out on their own."

"Has that worked for you and Bruce?" I questioned surprised by my own sudden desire to hurt Selina in some way. I had forgiven for her for having forced me to the Christmas diner at Wayne Manor, but I couldn't deny that some part of me continued to resent her for it.

My words however didn't seem to affect Selina at all as she simply seemed to have a distant look in her eyes. "Haven't you noticed?"

"Noticed what?"

"That neither Batman or Robin has been spotted for over two weeks. Crime has gone up drastically throughout the city." She continued deep in thought but there was also a stubbornness in her eyes that spoke a thousand words. "I wonder why that is."

Her words slowly began to set in a I found unbelievable that I hadn't noticed it before. Batman doesn't take vacation days, especially not when a series killer is on the loose. The last batman sight was on New Year's where he had to stop the Joker from distributing his laughing gas all over the city. Fortunately he was back in Arkham something that the entire city knew wouldn't last very long. "What do you know?"

"I know nothing." She muttered as she stood.

I remained still feeling shocked as Selina simply walked past me and out of her room. It was becoming increasingly clear to me that Selina was losing herself in the search for her father. In wanting to find the truth about where she came from. It was something that I would never be able to understand, but I did know that I had to find a way to reach her and help her see reason.

I would help her, but right now she was clearly wanting to make me see something. Or maybe to finally realize that maybe something terrible had happened to Bruce and Dick.

The unkept state of Wayne Manor was all the I needed to know that Ivy was indeed behind all of this. Vines seemed to cover everything inch of the manor almost like they were swallowing it whole. After the events of a couple of moment ago and seeing the manor now it made me realize just how incredibly powerful Ivy was. It was almost frightening knowing that she could bring this entire city down if she desired it.

I had never imagined that the billionaire that Falcone wanted to control was Bruce Wayne, a careless slip on my part. Especially considering that I had not realized that Batman had gone missing, but that was possibly because up until now I was able to successfully keep my mind off anything related to Dick Grayson. I could only wonder now why Selina hadn't decided to come here herself.

Without a second to waste I approached the entrance to the manor only to find that the door was left slightly ajar. As I stepped inside I focused all my attention on my stepping on any of the plants that decorated the elegant marble floors, if even the slightest harm came to one of the plants Ivy would know that something was wrong.

The manor that was always in a spotless and elegant state down seemed rundown and abandoned from the plant life that had taken over the entire building. My first instinct was to head down to the cave, but considering that Ivy was controlling Bruce Wayne and not Batman I headed to Bruce's study.

He was sitting behind his desk eyes open and entrapped under vicious plant life that had taken a firm hold of his. As I stepped closer I realized that a plant had made its way into his mouth. Although the sight was horrifying there was something abusing about the idea that Carmine Falcone had unknowingly taken out The Batman when he had Ivy control Bruce Wayne.

Getting a firm hold on the plant I slowly began to pull it out of his throat silently praying that it hadn't made its way too far down. When the plant was finally out I placed a vile filled with the antidote to Ivy's poison, one of many that Selina had hidden away in room in case of emergencies.

I anxiously waited for a moment for the antidote to finally take effect, surprisingly finding myself relived when Bruce slowly began to blink himself out of his intoxicated state.

"Cheyenne?" Bruce questioned his voice hoarse, undoubtedly from being the discus of his voice and the plant that had made itself down his throat. I didn't even want to imagine in what state Dick and Alfred were in.

Instinctively I pushed him back down on the chair realizing just who disoriented he was, the Bruce I knew would never do anything this impulsive. One wrong moves and Ivy would know exactly what was going on. "Wait."

Bruce slowly seemed to be regaining his senses as he nodded allowing me to slowly remove all the vines and plants that had strapped him to this chair. It was no easy task considering how intricately the green had taken its hold on the entire manor.

"Go to Alfred." I ordered as I handed him a small vial that held the antidote to Ivy's toxin although I was certain that Bruce had an antidote of his own. Bruce immediately regained his composure as he took the glass vial from my hand.

It was an odd thing to give orders to Bruce Wayne, even more astonishing was the fact that he didn't agree and rushed out the doors of his study. Something that I wasn't able to enjoy as I ran out of the study and up the many steps that led to the second floor of the manor.

When I burst into Dick's room I froze in horror at the sight Dick laying on his bed trapped and unconscious in the same way that Bruce was down stairs. There really was no knowing how long them had been entrapped like this, and as I climbed on top of the bed I had no doubt that I had gotten here just in time.

Slowly I placed the antidote on his lips watching carefully that he drank every drop.

"Come on." I whispered as I brushed strands of hair away from his face waiting for the antidote to finally take effect. As the seconds passed like an eternal torture I began to fear that I was too late. That I waited to long and that now I was really going to lose him. It was a constricting feeling that seemed to take over every single one of my sense not letting me think clearly. "Come on Boy Wonder."

As a groan escaped his lips I quickly got to work on freeing him from all the plants. My heart was beating rapidly in my chest as rushed to the other side of the room opening the window. Taking one last look at Dick who was still in the process of regaining his consciousness I stepped out onto the roof just as Bruce rushed into the room momentarily meeting my eyes before I leaped off the roof, landing in the gardens.

I had no desire to talk to Dick or Bruce about any of this. It was my hope that Bruce wouldn't tell Dick that it was be that helped them out of Ivy's control, that they would forget about this and move on. Because we all had to move on from our demons no matters how difficult or impossible it was.

There had to be a way to let go.

A/N: Some much needed Ivy love. And I am exited to explore her relationship with Harley as they are EVERYTHING in the comics. I have been adding a lot of iconic comic book moments in the flashback scenes fro all you comic book lovers like me. In the nest chapter we are finally going to be getting to the plot of the show although like the first book the ending is going to be very different. Because let's be honest the season 2 finale was an embarrassing hot mess. Tell me what you're excited to see. (And yes I did promise a steamy scene which is coming up, but I wanted it to be in a place that felt natural for the story).
