The Dr, the Guard & the Psychiatrist

It's funny how miserable a car park can look when it's raining. In films rain can make scenes so romantic, or bring fun to two little kids splashing in puddles.
But today it's as if the sky is crying.
I sit there with Jimin on the bench, the smoke shelter keeping us dry as we stare out at the cars pulling in and out. He didn't wanna come today, but I managed to persuade him.
I've come to realise that I need Jimin. Kind of like the way a flower needs the sunshine to grow. His warm and bright presence is always making me feel less shit some how.
With Jungkook it's a little more severe. I need him like the way a person needs oxygen to breathe. And being apart from him feels like I'm close to suffocating.
"I like your suit by the way Chim."
"Thanks but it itches like crazy."
"Mine too." I sigh whilst tugging at my pencil skirt. I haven't worn this since my psychiatrist days. "But today isn't a day for wearing jeans and a sweatshirt."
"Do you think he'll be wearing a suit?" He asks.
"No, they wouldn't allow him the pride of wearing anything other than those overalls." I answer.
Checking his watch, Jimin sighs, slapping down on his thighs before looking at me and saying "At least they don't muzzle him." Before getting up.
When we reach the court room, I'm overwhelmed by the amount of people in here already. A full jury team, a full audience, multiple officers and lawyers all face down in notes.
I lock eyes with Namjoon. He doesn't smile to greet me and I'm actually glad. He's in the zone today, completely professional.
Both Jimin and I take our seats next to Jin. We've all been asked to speak during this trial today, hence why our seats our right at the front.

The second the doors open my ears pick up on the mutters and whispered comments, everyone staring at me like I'm some fucking zoo animal that's escaped from its pen. They're terrified of me. They all think I'm unstable.
Well. Not everyone.
When my eyes lock with Y/n's, she moves those beautiful lips to mouth I love you. And I believe her, and it feels good until I see Jimin sitting by her side, dressed all smart and handsome in his suit, and here I am looking like a fucking marshmallow.
Typical.
I take my seat next to Namjoon who looks away from his notes to greet me with a pat on the back. He can't shake my hand as they're still cuffed together rather tight. May or may not have pissed off one of the guards this morning :)
"They're gonna bombard you with a lot of questions today kid. At first they're gonna be against you. You're practically in shark infested waters here, everyone wants to tear you to pieces because they see you as a threat to society. But you can't show fear. Don't hesitate when answering them. Don't be smart and cocky, it will only aggravate them and we're not ready for that. Not yet anyway."
I keep quiet for a moment. He looks so serious. Kinda makes me feel bad for my next comment.
"Do you think that sketch artist has a nice ass?"
He sighs. "Glad you're calm is all I'm gonna say."
I smile before getting more comfortable in my chair. To my left appears a man. His suit looks clean and neat, his hair perfectly jelled and slick like a Lego character, what a weirdo.
"That's our enemy during this trial." Namjoon tells me. "I went to law school with him, Jung Leeno, he's tough but I know his weak spots."
"Which are?"
"I'm gonna keep them to myself for now." He smirks.
Turning round I get a glimpse of Y/n. She's talking to Jimin, her body rather close to his as he whispers in her ear. I don't like it. Them being close. It makes my stomach churn.
Patting my back, Namjoon alerts me to stand for the judge. The sound of everyone's feet hitting the ground is so loud, it makes me more aware of how many people are actually in this court room today.
Scared? No. Petrified? No. I don't feel anything right now. Even when the judge begins to talk about the context of my case, I feel calm, like I'm back home or something. Nothing is sinking in right now.
I look across at Mr Jung. He hasn't spoken to his team yet. Or looked through his notes. I don't even think I've seen the guy blink yet.
"Calling upon Mr Kim please rise, and verbalise your argument." The judge calls, and Namjoon rises with confidence before placing himself behind the stand.
"Thank you your honour. I stand here before you and the jury, to fight for the justice of a young male who has been betrayed by our legal system too many times." He turns around to face the audience. Our eyes lock. I can tell a part of him cares about me. But that doesn't make it any easier to hear what he says next...
"Short minded people view him as a murderer, and a deviant to society. But what they over look, is the baby that was made an orphan. The little boy who was raped and abused by three men at school, to which lead him to falling ill and unstable through his own emotions. Yes, he committed murders but unlike him, the men he killed suffered no sentence. My client was later imprisoned and served over 6 years to which lead to further abuse and sexual harassment from multiple guards along with the head of the medical team Dr Lee, a woman who is now scheduled for her own trial—."
"Objection your honour, Mr Kim fails to show evidence for any of these assaults." At last the man on my left does have a voice. It's kind of annoying though. Squeaky pitched.
The judge looks at Namjoon. "Mr Kim? Care to defend?"
With a smirk like smile, Namjoon nods for one of the guards to bring him his evidence. He opens the plastic bag, pulling out the recording device. "On Tuesday night, after Dr Lee had attempted to abduct Mr Jeon. Miss L/n managed to capture a recording of the woman confessing to everything."
Damn. He came to play.

The way Mr Jung approaches the stand is interesting. He walks at a much slower pace than Namjoon. So calm and casual. "Thankyou your honour." He says with a rather nasal like voice, can tell that's gonna get annoying quickly. As he begins to make his argument, I find myself focusing on the back of Jungkooks head. I wanna see his face and judge whether he's lost weight, or if he's become paler from malnourishment.
For the last 20 minutes I've been imagining a scene where I take him by the hand and run out this courtroom with him. We'd jump in the first taxi but we wouldn't head home. Instead we'd go to the beach and just sit there for hours, holding one another close as we watch the waves roll and crash onto the shore.
"And what a team he's brought forth." That nasal voice brings me out of my day dream.

I turn to look in the same direction as Mr Jung. Everyone does. Straight in the direction of Jin, Jimin and Y/n.
"The doctor, the guard, and the psychiatrist..wow. What an order." He flashes a smirk like smile at the three of them, but his eyes focus on Y/n the most. "Your honour id like to bring forth Miss L/n for questioning."
The judge leans towards his mic. "Let the record show that Mr Jung is calling upon his first witness."

I stand to see everyone's eyes on me as I make my way to the front. I do everything I'm told, swear an oath, acknowledge the judge and take my place behind the stand.
"Now Miss L/n. Am I correct when saying that you and Mr Jeon are an item?"
How does he already know that??
"An engaged one might I add." At his words the whole room fills with mutters and whispers.
"That's correct yes." I say, my eyes flicking towards Jungkook for a brief second before turning back to Mr Jung.
"Then it's perfectly acceptable to assume that your statement on Mr Jeon is easily swayed by your emotional attachment to him, rather than your knowledge on what's right and wrong."
"No that's not true at all." I adjust myself before leaning closer to the mic. "My relationship with Mr Jeon was professional when we first met—."
"Oh really? So, you didn't know him from attending the same school?"
"W-well yes but—."
"And did you not form a friendship together during that time?"
"Yes but we were just kids back then. It took me a while to remember him when i became his psychiatrist."
My words don't seem to phase the man at all.
"Tell me Miss L/n. Do you often fall for your patients?"
"Objection your honour, lack of foundation. Permission to interfere?"
"Approved."
I watch Namjoon approach the judge before handing him some papers. "Here are medical records from when my client was in a psychiatric ward. He was diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder which was stated to have effects on his memory, hence why he was unable to remember Miss L/n during their first meet."
"Objection your honour, that doesn't justify Miss L/n not remembering Mr Jeon." Mr Jung argues. With a snicker Namjoon looks at the man. "And are you telling me you remember every person from your school years Mr Jung? That you'd be able to name each person from a line up?"
I hold back a smile. He's on fire :)

We've all been up to speak. Jimin and Jin got off a little easy with the questioning, but that doesn't surprise me, Namjoon warned me about my role in all of this and I knew they'd be harsh with me.
But now my fears are really being tested. It's Jungkooks turn for questioning and I've never felt my protective instincts kick in more. Mr Jung's questions have been nothing but blunt and they're only getting worse. He doesn't see Jungkook as a human being, more like a wall he's trying to crack open with a hammer. He doesn't care if he gets hurt. He just wants to break him.
"Did you torture and kill Head master Lee?" He asks, and it kills me when Jungkook simply responds with. "I did."
I can tell he's ashamed deep down for his actions, he's embarrassed to have to admit to such a thing in front of an audience. His trauma is being used to publically humiliate him today and it's not fair!
"Did you torture and murder Janiter Leejung?"
"..I did."
"Did you enjoy killing them—."
Slamming his hands down Namjoon rises. "Objection your honour, my client already admitted and wrote down his confession to the crimes on paper which Mr Jung has with him today."
"Your honour I'm simply wanting a verbal confirmation here." Mr Jung turns to the judge with his hands held out.
"I'll allow it." He nods, encouraging Mr Jung to continue.
"Mr Jeon I'll ask you again." He looks back at Jungkook who I've noticed has become sunken in his chair. "Did you enjoy killing those men?"
"Enjoyment and satisfaction are two different things."
"What do you mean?"
"Well if I enjoyed killing them, then I would have felt happy."
"And what did you feel?"
Inhaling a breath the boy straightens himself up, flashing a light smile after saying the word "satisfied."
"So forgive me if I'm wrong Mr Jeon but—." The man pauses to let out a short laugh. "Are you admitting to feeling no guilt from those killings?"
"Correct."
I feel my stomach knot and twist. Jungkook has always been unpredictable but today isn't a day where I find it amusing.
"I removed two sick people from the world. I prevented them from hurting any other kids and that is where the satisfaction formed."
"So what your saying is..you get off to mur—."
"Objection your honour!"
"Approved."
When hearing that word, Namjoon takes a stand and joins Mr Jung upfront. "My opponent is clearly ignoring what my client is saying. Anyone can see that."
"I'm simply asking questions your honour." Mr Jung says with a smirk like smile.
"Your honour my client has already served a 6 year sentence which lead him to suffer further abuse, all in which is punishment enough for the crimes he committed. He's been receiving treatment and as you heard from Doctor Kim before during his questioning, is making a speedy recovery. Being sentenced will only worsen his condition and as far as I'm concerned, the legal system functions with the purpose of freeing the innocent."
The whole room fills with mutters. I look to my left and see the jury team all leaning across to one another exchanging in discussion. It becomes so loud that the judge struggles to silence them at first, his gavel having little effect.
Turning round, Namjoon finally greets me with that confident smile. He has struck oil.
