WHY ARE YOU SO SMILEY?

"You brought a stuffed animal?" Mickey asked Adeline as soon as he opened up the door to his empty dorm room — his roommate was going to be out for the night.

"His name is Bentley, and show him the same respect you show me," Adeline said while clutching the rabbit closer to her chest.

"I don't show you any respect," he said with a smirk. "Come on in."

"Not true," she said with a smile. "You open doors for me and started carrying my tray for me in the cafeteria."

Mickey just grumbled sheepishly under his breath, knowing she had a point. He was starting to let his crush on her affect the little things in their lives. He was always pulling out her chair for her in class and in the cafeteria. He carried her backpack for her and always sat next to her when hanging out with their friends on the quad.

Mickey was wrapped around her perfectly manicured finger, and he didn't give a damn.

As Adeline stepped into the room, she looked around at the decor. Mickey had countless movie posters covering his walls, and in the corner was his desk that had stacks of video tapes with all the footage he shot on his camera. His camera that he was now picking up and pointing at her.

"Okay, people," he narrated, making her giggle. "Adeline Feldman is about to watch her first horror movie. Addy, tell the people how you're feeling."

"Anxious and already pre-scared," she admitted. "But Mickey had promised to protect me like a big strong movie nerd in shining armor."

Mickey scoffed and came closer. "Call me a nerd again, and I'll leave you for Michael Myers."

"Who is Michael Myers?" she asked cluelessly.

"The man that's gonna haunt your nightmares after tonight," he said honestly before leading her to the cheap, overstuffed futon that was facing the boxy TV in the room. There was also a coffee table, and Mickey stocked it with popcorn, sodas, and some of Adeline's favorite candies, making her smile.

As she looked at the snacks, he looked at her, taking in the blue sundress she wore with a white t-shirt underneath it to keep her warm. And her blonde hair was perfectly brushed, not a stand out of place as part of it was pulled back with a blue ribbon.

Mickey was in a blue t-shirt, thinking they matched a bit. Even though Adeline's favorite color was pink, she knew she looked best in blue, and he liked her in his own personal favorite color.

"You look nice," he found himself saying almost nervously. What were the odds she made sure to look so nice just because she was going to be alone with him?

"Thank you," she said, grinning at him. "It's a new dress."

"And you broke it out for me? I'm flattered," he said with a crooked grin. Then he sat on the couch and patted the spot next to him. "Now, get ready to discover a whole new world. I want it noted that this is one of the best horror movies there is."

"And I want it noted that I hate you," she mumbled while clutching Bentley tighter as she sat right next to Mickey, their shoulders brushing.

"Oh, you adore me, Princess," he teased while pressing play on the remote.

The viewing was filled with lots of cowering and squealing on Adeline's part. And much to Mickey's delight, when he threw his arm over her shoulder halfway through, she didn't push him off. If anything, she leaned into his touch. And of course, there was lots of commentary on both sides.

"He just killed his sister? How could he?"

"Because he's evil."

"Ugh, that mask is so creepy!"

"That's the point."

"What do you mean a freak in a mask follows you around all day and you don't go to the police?"

"Well, it's to build the anticipation."

"Don't get attached to the dog."

"He kills the doggy?"

"Doesn't Randy say having sex in a horror movie equals death? Are they gonna die?"

"Not a knitting needle! Ugh, gross."

As the end of the film neared, Adeline was basically watching through closed eyes, barely peeking them open as Laurie Strode hid in a closet. Adeline let out a worried whine and ended up hiding her face in Mickey's chest as Michael Myers was stabbed in the eye.

Warmth rushed through Mickey, who forgot all about the movie. He smiled down at the top of Adeline's head before wrapping an arm around her tightly. He hadn't really pictured this happening during their movie night, but he certainly wasn't complaining.

"Come on, Addy," he said softly. "You're missing the ending."

Another whine left her lips as she turned her head away from Mickey's chest, still pressed up close against him and hugging his surprisingly firm abdomen. She watched as Laurie was strangled before Michael Myers was shot by Dr. Loomis — she thought the last name was a bit ironic given Sidney and Randy's past.

"He's still alive?" Adeline asked in disbelief as the credits began to roll.

"Well, there are six of them," he pointed out with a grin. Not to mention they'd announced plans for a seventh one for the twentieth anniversary, which he and Randy were already talking about even though it wasn't even in production yet. "How'd you like it?"

"I didn't like it!" she insisted, resting her chin on his chest as she looked up at him. "That was - that was horrifying. You watch this for fun?"

"Well, I'm proud of you for making it through it," he said while subtly tightening his hold on her.

Finally, Adeline seemed to notice how she'd encroached on his personal space, making her blush. And in the dim lighting, his eyes followed the flush in her cheeks, thinking it was incredibly cute. "Sorry for crawling on you."

"I don't mind," he said, looking into her eyes. "The movie got considerably better once you were in my arms."

"Yeah?" she asked, suspecting that he was flirting. And she liked that he was, beginning to draw nonsense patterns on his chest with her index finger. "I think it got better too. Felt a lot safer."

Mickey just hummed and covered her hand on his chest with his own. She smiled as he held her hand, brushing his thumb back and forth across her knuckles.

"I know you're scared and all," Mickey said quietly, eyes glancing down at her lips that were so close to him. "But, uh, I kinda wanna do something to make you forget about it."

"Yeah, like what?" she asked, not oblivious to how he was looking at her glossy lips. Her heart was beating heavily in her chest.

"Kiss you like I've been dying to for weeks," he admitted, swallowing thickly. He nervously looked back at her eyes, expecting her to push him off in disgust.

"Well, I guess I wouldn't mind that," she said shyly. "I really wouldn't mind."

Mickey nodded with a smile before leaning in. His nose bumped against hers as she drew in a sharp breath of anticipation. Then with the hand that wasn't holding hers, he cupped her cheek gently.

He was slow, giving her time to pull away should she want to. But that was the last thing she'd wanted. She'd been dreaming about kissing Mickey since the second day of classes.

So, when he finally did, she was on cloud nine. His lips slotted against hers perfectly, warm and gentle against her. She let out a noise of content as she wrapped her arms around him, pulling herself even closer as he kissed her.

And then, testing the waters, his tongue darted out, sliding against the seam of her lips. Though she was inexperienced with making out, Adeline opened up for him, letting him deepen the kiss. Mickey tasted like the salty popcorn they'd been eating, and she tasted sweet like the Skittles she'd been mixing with her popcorn.

Adeline's head felt dizzy as he held the back of her neck, keeping her in place as he explored her mouth like it was something to claim. The way he rolled his tongue against hers was so perfect, making her whine into his mouth as she moved to run her fingers through his dark hair.

Finally, they had to part, both gasping like they could barely breathe as they looked deeply into each other's eyes. Mickey kept her close, his forehead pressed to hers as he licked his swollen lips.

"That was..." Mickey trailed off, not even able to find the words. Because kissing Adeline was everything he dreamed it could be. And he knew then and there that he'd never want anyone but her for the rest of his life.

"Was it bad?" she asked in a quiet tone, taking his lack of words as a bad sign. "I - I've only been kissed one other time, so I don't really know what to do. But I can work on it—"

"It was perfect, Princess," he promised, ignoring how his chest swelled with pride at being her second kiss ever. Mickey would've thought a girl as perfect as her had a mile-long list of past boyfriends. "But if you're really just dying for more practice..."

Adeline giggled as he smirked at her. Then she nodded before leaning in to peck his lips shortly before pulling away, a shy smile on her lips.

Mickey tucked a strand of loose hair behind her ear before pulling her into another real kiss. And they got so lost in each other so quickly, one kiss morphing into twenty dizzying ones as he slowly leaned her down against the couch as they kissed slowly and leisurely, him holding onto her like she was some delicate, perfect thing that he wanted to cherish forever.

She was in his mind.

When they finally parted for air, taking a break after god knows how long of kissing, Mickey just pulled her close as she burrowed her head in his neck. He smiled when she gently kissed him there before settling against him.

"I've got the 'Grease' tape if you wanna get started on that," he offered.

"Oh, most definitely, Stud."

"Alright, why are you so smiley?" Cici asked Adeline after they got back from lunch in the cafeteria with Sidney and Hallie the next day. The two girls were right behind them, all filing into Adeline and Cici's room.

They'd all noticed her constant smile and perkier-that-normal mood, which was saying something. The whole time, she'd barely been paying attention to their group talk about classes, too busy thinking of Mickey while tracing hearts on the tiled floor with the toe of her shoe.

"Yeah, you're totally out of orbit right now," Hallie said while sitting on the pink bean bag chair in the corner. Sidney sat on Adeline's bed with her while Cici went to her own.

Adeline smiled down at her hands, toying with her rings, recalling how Mickey had held her hand the night before. "I had my movie night with Mickey last night."

"So, I take it that 'Halloween' didn't scar you forever?" Sidney asked, raising an eyebrow.

For just a moment, Adeline frowned. "No, it definitely did." But then she was smiling again. "Mickey, he kissed me."

"No way!" Hallie exclaimed as Sidney and Cici giggled. "Tell us everything."

And Adeline did, not leaving out a single detail about how she'd cowered into his chest and how he wrapped his strong arms around her before asking to kiss her once the movie ended. Then she went on and on about how perfect it all was. Even during their showing of 'Grease', he'd lean down and kiss her slowly. She'd get distracted by him at first before remembering that it was a scene she really liked, so she'd swat his chest and grin as she pulled away from him.

After the movie was over, he walked her back to her dorm. At the door, he kissed her before asking her to be his girlfriend — and of course, she said yes.

"I'm really happy for you," Sidney said when she finished, reaching for Adeline's hand, squeezing it. "You look so happy."

"I am," she said, biting her lip. "He's perfect."

"I don't know about perfect," Cici said teasingly. "But it's past September and it didn't take three months, so I don't think any of us won the bet."

Adeline tilted her head, thinking it over. "Does that mean I get all your money?"

Hallie rolled her eyes and grabbed a stuffed bear that was by her side, throwing it at Adeline, who squealed and dodgied it. "No, it most certainly does not."
