Chapter 7

Darren's POV

*Before Gym class*

As I race to the teacher's lounge, to find Coach Nielson before Gym class, I think over some other ideas as to how to know for sure if she is one of us. If she is we could use her on our team of two... It has been reduced to that because Nelson and Kiera backed out and left us for important "family issues".

Let me tell you one thing. I don't know their real names - Nelson and Kiera are their Code Names - for want of a better word. My "Name" is Keith and Jayden's (Yes he's like me too, that's how we became best friends. ) is Ashton... At least, that's what Phoenix thinks. But I'll explain about him later.

I wondered if she would be as good as me at Gym... Don't get me started on music! Her voice... Her voice sounded like angels singing, but it was powerful, too. Not wimpy and quiet and lullaby-ish - if that's even a word. I had tried to read her thoughts all through English - to find out if she was one of us - but, either she has a completely empty head, which I very much doubt, or she's one of us. I hope it's the latter. It'd give me a chance to get to know her... NO! I mustn't think like that ever again - not after Mariah... It hurt to just think about her again.

Let me explain, Phoenix - our enemy, has been for almost five years - took her and used her against me as blackmail and it was the toughest decision I had ever made to either go against everyone and give him what he wanted, or to have him kill her and... Well, you get the picture. But, just as I was about to give him what he wanted we got some - inside information, shall we say - and found that he had... already... ki... 

I shook my head as I finally reached the teacher's lounge. I didn't want to think about her anymore it had taken me a year to finally get over what he did and since then I've never kept a relationship for more than a week, max. that's why I dumped Selena  yesterday. I didn't want a weakness. Not until we got rid of Phoenix for good.

I was just about to knock on the door when it opened, revealing Coach Nielson, just heading to the Gym. She's one of the few teachers at the school who knew about all of the supernatural stuff. We thought it would be fitting as she could train us in the gymnastics field to help us with balance and agility and there's also Coach Elk - as he was our P.E. teacher he helped us with new fighting techniques and any other teachers we thought could help us to win.

"I'm gonna be in your class to day Coach Nielson." She looked confused but waved her hand as a gesture to tell me to continue so I did, "You need to put me in a pair for something with the new girl."

"But, why?" She replies, still looking confused.

"Because-" I started, then quietened my tone, realizing that anyone could be listening, "I think she might be one of... us." I ended in a whisper.

Her eyes widened in realization, she nodded her head once and we walked in silence the rest of the way to the gym.

*After Tina and Darren were put together in a pair*

We walk to our practice  zone - it was right in the centre of the room.

I went first and I showed her the random cartwheels and flips I could do only just managing not to fall over on one of the back flips - I've always had trouble with those, I just can't seem to get my left foot to land right. I was lucky - one time I actually did fall flat on my face. I had to snap my own dislocated nose back in to place. Trust me, don't try it. It hurts. And I have super-fast healing abilities and a high pain-threshold.

She stepped up to the mark to show me what she could do. I figured I woudn't be too harsh on her, as she was new. She might be able to do one cartwheel, I just hope she doesn't try to do the flips. They take training, experience and practice to achieve just one.

What I wasn't expecting though, was what she did do.

She started off small, with just a handstand, then she lowered herself to the floor and forward-rolled out of it. Standing up at last minute she started a sequence that she had obviously repeated time and time again, as she did it with such ease that it looked like she was just gliding from her hands to her feet and back again.

The sequence consisted of:

A cartwheel. Then a one-handed cartwheel. Then a round-off. Then a one-handed round off. A walk-over in to the splits, from which she pulled her legs round to meet eachother, did a fan-kick with her back on the floor positioning herself so that when she 'landed' (again, for want of a better word.) she would be on one knee. She then used the leg folded up to her chest to push herself up off the floor kicking her legs in to the air in a kind of handstand motion and landed perfectly. Both feet on the floor, no balance issues what so ever.

She then started on another sequence - this time a flip routine.

She started with a normal front flip. Then she took her hands off of the floor and did a no-hands front flip. Then proceeded to do it backwards ( A.N. : i.e. : Back flip, no-hands back flip.) She then added on to the sequence a round off back somersault continuing on in to a round off tuck back. That I'd only heard of, even Coach Nielson couldn't do it! She ended with a handstand then jumped in the handstand (On her hands.), then hopped from one hand to the other and finally landed on both hands, jumped back on to her feet and raised her hands in the gymnast's bow.

(A.N. : There! just about excercised all my knowledge of gymnastics! Got like half of it from someone in my school's videos, he's in year 7. - sean if you're reading this it's Ben lol! Just in case you didn't realize!)

I stood there in shock as Coach Nielson took her off to the side, no doubt to talk about her doing the "inter-state championships" we may actually have a chance against Anderson Mount. High with her on our team... I hope she says yes.

Everyone was looking at her - and she knew it, she was in her element. I strolled off to the side and sat in the bleachers, waiting for them to finish talking.

I was surprised - normally I would be thinking totally perverted thoughts about how hot she looked in the tight shorts they had to wear for this class, but for her... Nothing. Damn! I've gone mushy over a stupid girl!

Snap out of it Darren! She is nothing. If you dated her she would just end up like Mariah did.

She walked back over at that point and I was thankful for the distraction. As - to me - my thoughts were heading down a straight road to me having a break-down in the middle of class. She looked up at the clock and groaned, I looked up to see why. But, I couldn't see any reason why. Then I realized. I frowned, could she really not stand to even be near me? Not even for a measly half an hour? Wow... Now that's new... 

Rejection...

The rest of the day passed uneventfully and I caught up with Jayden after school. We agreed to go round to my place, I think he caught on to the fact that something was off about her, as well as me.

When we got to my house neither my Dad or Mom were in - still. But, this was just usual... I hardly ever got to see them. They used to be a part of our group, but then they got assigned to another one that only had one person left. That group was all the way over in Minnesota...

"So, did you smell anything on her?"

"I don't know, man. I'm smelling more than just one thing on her. I mean, you smell of old "Cranberry juice",  people like me smell - well to me anyway - like pieces of meat, humans smell like a zoo and Phoenix's little minion twin people/things smell like candle smoke... I get a mix of the first two at least, probably because they're stronger than the candle smoke or zoo 'fragrances'." I looked at  him like he was a crazy person, "I know. Confusing and crazy, right? That's what I thought. I've never heard of another one - well apart from Phoenix, of course - but, it is possible that she's... well, some kind of a mixed breed, what's the word?"

"A hybrid?"

"That's it!"

"Well, okay. There's only one thing left to do."

He gave me a questioning look, as if to say 'How'd you make that out?'.

"We have to find out, for sure if Miss Tina Bolaine is a hybrid."

"Which two are we gonna look out for most?"

"All of them. We can never be too sure. It could be either. Heck! She could even be all four! Part Human. Part Witch. Part Werewolf. And Part Vampire..."

So what'ya think? I totally re-wrote most of this chapter cause most of it didn't fit in with what I've written for later on in the story... But ah well! it's better than it was now anyway!

And I know in that last scene/part Jayden was being all cryptic and the like. But he was suppoed to be! I was struggling to find a way to describe the way they smelt, without giving away the end of the chapter and what they were...

SO! Let me just clear this up for you!

Darren : Vampire

Jayden : Werewolf

Phoenix (Enemy.) : Part Witch/Warlock, Part Werewolf and Part Vampire.

His two minions/cronies( later to be known as Kathryn and Jasper) : Witches/Warlocks.

Tina : ?????? (I'm not giving it all away!!!)

Kaycee : (At least this is what I think she is, but it could change later on, bear that in mind while reading this.) Human

Selena : (Same as Kaycee.) Human
