The Bridge💧

The more she looked at the still water beneath her, the more she felt energy drain from her body. Leah felt weak, the adrenaline from a few hours ago had quickly left her. She just sat at the edge of the bridge staring at the water as if it had the answers she wanted. All she wanted to do was stand up and head back home.. home? She didn't have a home. The memories of Gus and her mother hit her like a train making her feel nauseous all over again.

Leah shifted closer to the edge, gaining a little of her courage. She'd rather end it once and for all than go back to that godforsaken house. She took a deep breath and mumbled a short prayer even though she wasn't much of a believer.

"Fuck! My phone!" Leah jumped in shock almost jumping inside the water she was mentally preparing herself to enter. The faint sound of something dropping into the water echoed and she looked to her left and saw a hooded figure leaning dangerously close to the edge.

"Hey! You'll fall" she warned tiredly and the person beside her stiffened.

"Isn't that the plan?" He whispered loud enough for Leah to hear it. She sighed before nodding slowly. It was the plan; to jump and let go of all the strings of life. Amid all the emotions she was feeling, she felt surprisingly relieved. Relieved that she wasn't the only one life cheated of a little normality.

"Hey" she called again. Her breath was caught in her throat as the boy looked at her in confusion. She was caught in his coffee brown eyes.

"What?" He asked snapping her out of her thoughts. Leah cleared her throat before nodding towards the water.

"Gonna jump?" She asked and he nodded slowly.

"I guess so, I mean yeah." he replied as if he was contemplating his decision.

"Same. Let's jump together." she proposed and he shrugged. Tristan thought it was a better option. At least he wasn't insane to come here, he had someone who wanted to do the same thing.

"On three?" He asked and she nodded.

   "One.." she started.

   "Two" he said shakily.

     "Three"

"Hey!" A voice yelled and the teenagers jumped in surprise. The looked behind them for the source and saw a cop jogging towards them. 'shit' Tristan thought, the cop was going to call his dad and it'll be the end of him. He started to seriously contemplate jumping than dying in his father's hands.

"I don't know what goes on these days but this is not a place for a date." the cop said the the two of them let out a sigh of relief they didn't know they were holding. "I need you two to leave or I'm gonna have to round you up. There a pretty big 'No trespassing' sign over there." he added pointing at the sign. Leah shook her head in disbelief. She wondered how she had not for once seen the sign ever since she came.

The boy stood up first before stretching his hand to her. She stared at his hand for sometime before looking up at him. Others may see a teenage boy but she saw a saviour telling her to give life one more chance... And she took it.

The two of them strolled side-by-side on the deserted road in a comfortable silence. None of them wanted to speak up because they were wrapped up in their own thoughts.

Tristan slowed down as he approached his car. Leah looked up at him in confusion before realizing it was probably his car.

"Uh.. bye?" Leah said giving him a small smile and continuing her stroll although she missed the company.

"I can drop you off." Tristan offered after having a mental debate on if he was being crazy or polite.

"It's fine. The walk isn't that far..." Her voice faded at the end when she realized where she was, at the outskirts of the city. Adrenaline could do may things and carrying your legs to places you didn't think you'll ever reach was one of them.

"Come on, I'll drop you off at the bus stop" Tristan said unlocking his car. Leah looked at the dark road ahead and looked at the pick-up truck beside her. It wasn't much of a hard decision to make.

"Thanks" she said opening the door and sliding in. Tristan glanced at the girl beside him staring blankly at the street light. Who would've know that his trip to the bridge had a surprise package waiting?

Leah tried not to look but it was hard not to stare at a boy who had a busted lip and a black eye and other fading bruises. From the way he winced, it was pretty obvious that it was not just his face that was injured.

The two drove in silence and the only word that was said was 'thanks' when Leah alighted the car as they reached the bus stop. Tristan nodded in acknowledgement before driving off.

Leah sat at the back of the bus looking at the busy city which contrasted the lonely road that led to the bridge. One thought was on her mind and she was pretty sure the it'll be on the boy's too.

Tristan tapped on the steering wheel as the thought clouded his mind. He tried to divert his train of thoughts from the question but he couldn't help but wonder.. Would they have jumped if the cop didn't come?
