CHAPTER 18
Maddie's POV
I woke up to the sound of knocking. Actually, pounding would be a better word. I groaned and snuggled deeper into Drew's chest. "Madison! You and Drew better get down here! Dinner's almost ready!" I looked up, "How does she know your name?" He chuckled, "I went out and talked to her, told her you were feelings really sick and that you asked me to come over. She bought it, and left us alone." I smiled, "Wow, that's a better lie then I would've come up with." He leaned down and kissed me nose, "Leave the lying to Demi for me." I giggled, then sighed, "Thanks for coming." Drew tightened his hold on me, "Anything for you." Then he moved, pushing himself into a sitting position. "Demi ordered pizza because your mom and dad went out to dinner." I internally groaned, food. "Hey, you can do this. I'll be right by your side. If you need help just squeeze my hand." I nodded, and got up, "We should go down." He nodded and stood next to me, I went to talk away but be grabbed my arm. "Wait! I forgot something!" I turned, confused. "Wha-" I was cut off by him dramatically dipping me and kissing me passionately. I giggled and kissed back until we both pulled away, breathless. Drew smiled lazily, "Now we can go."
I stared down at my piece of pizza and sighed, Demi was too engrossed in her phone to notice my reluctance but Drew was watching me like a hawk. He squeezed me hand reassuringly and smiled. Then, Demi looked up. "Mom and Dad are staying out tonight. They're at a hotel now because it's too late to drive back. I'm watching you tonight." I huffed and crossed my arms, "I don't need a babysitter." Demi rolled her eyes, "Drew you can stay as long as you want, but no funny business." I choked on the bite of pizza i'd finally managed to take and drew almost spit out his sip of soda. "W-What do you mean-" "Don't think I wasn't listening at your door, hearing you two makin' out." I glared at Demi while Drew looked down, his face beet red. "Demi stop please." I moaned. She smiled, "I'm just doing my job." I stood up, "We should go before things get really bad." Drew raised an eyebrow, "But you barely ate?" I shook my head, "Still feelin' a little bit sick, I'll eat later." I grabbed his hand and dragged him up to my room. By the time we got there, I was in tears. When he shut the door I buried my face into his chest. "I'm sorry. I couldn't do it." Drew sat me on the bed and allowed me to cry it out into his chest. When I finally pulled away he sighed, "Maddie we really need to talk."
My heart began to speed up dramatically and my breaths came short and shallow. "Please don't" He sighed, "Maddie I can't do this anymore." I squeezed my eyes shut, "Just do it quick." Drew sighed, "It's what's best for you." I let a sob rip through my chest. "How is breaking up with me what's best?!" Drew's eyes popped open and he looked horrified, "Maddie I'm not breaking up with you." My heart stopped, "Y-You're not?" He put his head in his hands, "Okay I can see where you'd get that from but no, I'm not going to break up with you. I'm talking about telling Demi. You need to do it." I shook my head, panic coursing through my body. "No I can't. Please Drew, don't make me." He sighed, "Mad, you can't even eat a single slice of pizza. Do you realize how bad that is?" I looked down, "I can stop and eat any time I want to." Drew shook his head, "No Mads, you think you can but you can't. It's an addiction. So is the depression and the cutting. You cut to feel but it only numbs you even more. You think that you're fine and not as bad as some of the other girls you've seen or hear about but that's not true okay? You are addicted to this disease of your mind. Telling someone and getting help is the only way to overcome it." I looked at my hands, and the scars. "I told you." He nodded, "And i'm so honored that you trust me enough to tell me. But I want to help you, and this is me helping you. Now c'mon, I'll go with you and we can tell Demi together. It's the right time, your parents aren't home so you don't have to worry about them or Dallas. Just me you and Demi. It's honestly what's best Maddie." I shook my head, "I can't she'll hate me forever." Drew sighed, "Mads, she won't hate you. I promise. You thought I would leave you but guess what? I'm right here. and I'm staying. Demi has been through this and out of all people she knows what it feels like to be in this situation. She loves you more than I ever could and she loves you way more than her career. I think you know that, you're just making up excuses so that Demi doesn't make you stop." My breath caught, "That's... Not true." Drew smiled sadly, "Yes it is. But you need to admit that you have a problem before it ends up killing you okay?" I wiped my face, "How am I even supposed to tell her?" He shrugged, "Exactly how you told me. It's gonna be hard, but you'll find the right words to say." I nodded and wiped my tears again, "I'll do it."
Drew and I walked down stairs and saw Demi sitting on the couch watching the iD channel. She smiled when she saw us, the frowned when I stepped into the light, revealing my tear stained face. She opened her arms, "What's wrong babygirl?" I collapsed in her arms and tried to slow my breathing but the realness of what is about to happen in the next ten minutes is causing my body to shut down. "Maddie shhh babygirl." I began to shake, gasping for air and Demi snapped into action. "Maddie breath. You need to breath. It's okay. You're safe." I know Demi was only trying to help, but since she was part of the reason for my panic, it was doing more harm then good. I felt a different hand on my back, Drew. I began to relax at his touch and his words from before filled my mind, "She won't hate you, I promise." Slowly, my breathing evened out and my heartbeat slowed. I pulled away from Demi and looked into her concerned, chocolate brown eyes.
"I need to tell you something."
