His dark, piercing eyes seemed to glare into me as I held onto my cheek; my tears aimlessly falling as the vile taste of blood started to appear.

He hit me.

Again.

My body trembled and I couldn't stop it. I felt awful, but the look in his eyes said that he felt awful as well.

As he inched closer, I took a step back and tensed when he wrapped his arms around me. Instead of hitting me like I thought he was going to, he hugged me, holding me tightly. I sniffled, hesitantly wrapping my arms around him. I let out my tears, crying into his shirt as he hugged tighter.

"I'm sorry," was all he said.

But then again, that's all he ever is.
