Chapter 14

Author's POV

With Eun-ah tightly wrapped his little finger, Jonghyun's face held a victorious smile as his fingers entwined themselves with hers.  They walked down the halls like the happy couple everyone once saw them to be, but instead of happy reactions, they were receiving confused remarks.  Eun-ah tensed, but instead of ignoring it like Jonghyun usually does, he gently rubbed circles with his thumb on the back of her hand.

"I'm going to change, I promise."

Eun-ah forced a smile, and when they stopped at her classroom, she quickly let go of his hand.  He shifted, but said nothing.

"Sooooo... You're coming back home with me today right?"

"Jonghyun--"

He stopped her, cupping her face, stealing a kiss.

He smiled.

"I'll meet you at your locker then."  Jonghyun said with a wink, before disappearing into the crowd of students.

Eun-ah sighed, muttering to herself.  "But I had something else to do..."

She shook her head, guess she doesn't anymore.  Through the crowd of students, she saw the familiar boy with blonde hair and his friends coming to the same class.  The guys were laughing about something while the blonde haired boy held an emotionless expression.

"You're back with him?"  Zico asked quietly, his brows furrowing.  She avoided his gaze, shifting in place.

"It's complicated..."

As Zico's friends left to go to their classes, he instructed Kyung to tell their music teacher that they might be late.  Gently pulling on her wrist, he dragged her to a quiet hallway.

"What do you mean it's complicated?  Eun-ah, I thought we talked about this?"

"We did but--" Eun-ah ran her fingers through her hair and leaned against the lockers.  Slumping down, she sat on the cold tiled floor.  "He started.... Crying.  Zico, he never cries...  What if he's serious this time?  He says he can change."

Zico sighed, slumping down to sit beside her.

"I know I told you that I wouldn't pry or get too involved with your business, but I've known so many people that have been in your position, and out of so many, barely any of them took my advice.  Now, a few of them finally got the message and left before anything worse could happen.  But some still carried on and eventually they had kids and now the kids are taking the wrath....  But the others, sadly, have passed."

Eun-ah's eyes grew wide.

"They passed?  As in..?"

"They died."  Zico said sadly.  He glanced up at the ceiling.  "Most were called "accidental" deaths, like they fell down the stairs or whatever, but the others were so filled with confusion and grief that they took too many pills and took a nap, but never woke up."

Eun-ah stared hard at Zico's eyes, even though he wasn't looking at her.  His mood had changed drastically and she could sense it.  Slowly, she reached to grab Zico's hand.  She held his hand in her lap, gently rubbing the back of it as she laid her head on his shoulder.

"I don't want that to happen to you."

"Why do you care so much?"

There was a pause, but then Zico spoke up.

"You remind me of someone I used to love."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the day came to an end, Eun-ah dreaded meeting up with Jonghyun.  She had to call into work to tell her boss that she couldn't make it today.  It bummed her out, but Jonghyun didn't really give her much of an option...

Taking her time to walk to her locker, she stopped to look out the window.  Everything seemed normal, a bit too normal for her liking.  People weren't staring, nor were they calling her names.  She seemed to breathe easier, but then she saw the familiar lock of blonde hair.  She knew she needed to confront the blonde sooner or later, so she took a deep breath and left her stuff next to the door as she went to confront the blonde.

When she got close enough, Eun-ah tapped her shoulder.

The blonde took one look at Eun-ah, glanced at her from head-to-toe, and scoffed.

"Yes?"

The snarky tone of the blonde's voice made Eun-ah cringe.  Eun-ah stood straighter, flicking her hair over her shoulder as she cleared her throat.  Apparently being snarky wasn't something Eun-ah was used to.

"We need to talk."

Krystal's snarky stare came to an end and she told her friends to leave and she'll meet up with them later.

"What do you want to talk about?"

Eun-ah took a deep breath, she felt that Krystal was trying to test her patience, but she held her ground.

"You know exactly what I want to talk about,"  Eun-ah said.  "What's going on between you and my boyfriend?"

Krystal's eyebrows furrowed.  "Boyfriend?  You mean Jonghyun?  He never said anything about being in a relationship.... He told me he was single."

"....."  Eun-ah just stared at the girl.  Krystal, despite the rumors, looked completely innocent and naive to the situation.  When Eun-ah spoke up, her hands began to shake, but her voice didn't seem like it.

"He told you he was single?"

"Yeah, I just came to this school a few weeks ago and since he was in charge of escorting me to my classes, he asked for my number.  I had no idea he was in a relationship.  Is it fairly new?"

Eun-ah clenched her jaw.

"We've been dating for 4 years..."

Before Krystal could open her mouth to say something, Eun-ah cut her off.

"I'm sorry for bothering you, I guess."

Eun-ah turned to leave, walking faster as Krystal told her to wait.  She didn't want to be there at the moment.  Hell, she didn't even want to be near Jonghyun!  She just wanted to curl up into the arms of V or Zico...  She halted herself, rethinking what she just thought.

V?

Zico?

What the hell?

She shook her head, running both of her hands through her hair as she went to her locker.  As she turned the corner, her locker was in full sight, along with Yonghwa, Minhyuk, Jungshin, and of course, Jonghyun.

When she came into sight, Jonghyun put his phone in his pocket and met her halfway, wrapping his arms around her.  Eun-ah awkwardly returned the hug and went to open her locker, emptying the contents of her bag so she wouldn't have to carry any of it before closing her locker and locking it.

"Hello," she muttered awkwardly.

Jonghyun's smile grew slightly, the smile that she had loved.  But that was the key word; had.  A chill went up her spine just thinking about Jonghyun.  This feeling was so foreign to her, but she kept a fake smile on just in case.

The guys exchanged hellos and heys back at her and slowly she felt okay again.  Minhyuk smiled at the two, loving the fact that his ship was slowly coming back to life, so he spoke up.

"You guys are back together right?"

"No."-----"Yes."

The two spoke at the same time, but after they said their answers, Jonghyun stared at Eun-ah strangely.

"We aren't together yet because Jonghyun has to gain my trust back, but other than that, then maybe."

"Oh,"  Minhyuk awkwardly said.  "So will you be coming to my party?  I already invited Ji, so I wanted to ask you if you wanted to go too.  Everyone will be there."

"Sure, I'll go."

Minhyuk smiled and so did Jonghyun.  Soon the group parted ways, leaving just Jonghyun and Eun-ah, he smiled at her, but she merely nodded her head forward for them to start walking.  When they got to thir apartment, Jonghyun waited for Eun-ah to drop off her stuff before wrapping his strong arms around her waist.  He nuzzled his head into the crook of her neck.

"I've missed this."

Eun-ah rolled her eyes, but Jonghyun didn't see.

"I love you."

Jonghyun gently kissed her neck, trailing all the way to her jaw before Eun-ah turned away.  She took his hands off of her and walked into the kitchen to grab a drink.  Jonghyun looked disappointed but followed her nonetheless.

"What's wrong?"  He asked as he grabs a glass from the cabinet.  As he pours some water into the glass, he raises his brow waiting for an answer.

"Nothing,"  she lied, but Jonghyun could see right through it.  He dropped the subject.

"So who have you been staying with?"

"A friend."

"Do I know this friend?"

"Probably not."

Jonghyun was starting to get angry at her vague retorts, but he merely squeezed his glass instead of doing something rash.

"Is this friend a boy or a girl?"

"Would it matter?"

Jonghyun took a deep breath.  "What if it did?"

She didn't answer.

Jonghyun slowly starts to walk towards her, but she takes a step back.  He raises his hand, but freezes when he notices her flinch.  Tucking the stray hairs behind her ear, he cups her face with one hand and places a gentle kiss on her cheek.

"I'm staying with a boy..."

Jonghyun's smile slowly faded and his eye began to twitch in anger.

"Move back in with me."

He proposed, but she shook her head.

"No, Jonghyun."

The glass of water that was once in Jonghyun's hand shattered into tiny little pieces as his anger got the best of him.  Blood, water, glass, and ice dripped to the floor as Jonghyun still held onto the last pieces of the broken glass in his hand.  Anger was written all over him, but fear was written on her.
