Chapter 12

Author's POV

"I'm sorry, the person you are trying to reach is currently unavaliable--"

Jonghyun groaned in anger. He chucked his phone at the wall, watching it break to pieces as he let out a frustrated breath of air. No matter how many times he tried calling or even texting Eun-ah, she wasn't answering and it was bothering him to pieces.

Slouching against the wall, Jonghyun slid his back along the wall as he planted himself on the floor, his head in his hands. Why did he have to yell at her? Why did he have to say such awful things? Why did things have to be this way?

Sighing, he leaned his head against the wall, staring up at the ceiling. Eun-ah meant the world to him and for her to just be gone...? He couldn't take it.

"Aish, I'm so stupid." He groans, running a hand through his thick, black hair. He stared at her side of the room, the empty feeling was starting to settle in making him sick to his stomach. They were always together, ever since they were little, but now, she's gone.

And it's all his fault.

"I should've treated her better."

Her long, dark brown hair, her big, bright brown eyes.... he missed it, and it's only been a week.

"Why did I say those things?"

He called her a whore, knowing full well that the only guy she's ever really hung around was him. He practically rubbed it in her face that he was more liked than she was and he called her an orphan. He knew it was a touchy subject, but when he's mad, he can't control what he says. It was like he had no filter.

He felt like shit.

Sighing, he gets up from his spot in the corner and grabs his jacket, making his way for the door. He had to find her, one way or the other. He couldn't lose her.

She was all he had.

Jonghyun wandered the streets, checking every place Eun-ah liked to go to. He checked the park, then the library, then finally, he stumbled upon the cafe where Eun-ah always went to get pastries. The pastel coloring on the walls made Jonghyun a bit nervous, but when he went to the counter, he acted calm and collected like he usually was.

"Excuse me," He says as he digs in his pocket for his wallet. He pulled out a picture of him and Eun-ah; the photo was taken a few years back when they first moved into the apartment together, but it was still recognizable nonetheless. "Have you seen this girl?"

The cashier looked up from his lyric pad and merely raised his brow, running his hand through his blonde hair. His brows furrowed, but when he realized who he was talking to, he relaxed.

"No, I haven't," The cashier lied. "That girl used to come in regularly, but I haven't seen her for a few days. Is something wrong?"

Jonghyun sighed as he stuck his wallet back into his pocket.

"No, just looking for my girlfriend is all. I'm really worried about her."

The cashier's brows raised again. "Well, I'm sorry I couldn't be of any help, but would you like to order something while you're here?"

Jonghyun shook his head, realizing that this place was a bust at finding Eun-ah, so he left. After the cashier made sure Jonghyun was out of see-able range, he cleared his throat.

"Coast is clear." Zico says smoothly. He watched as Eun-ah's shaking body came into sight. She had slight tears running down her face again, but she wiped them away before Zico could say anything.

"Why are you crying?"

Eun-ah sniffled. "I've been trying not to think about him, but he-he came to look for me." She hiccuped. "Maybe I should go back to him... He looked so worried."

"Eun-ah..." Zico says sympathetically. "I've dealt with guys like Jonghyun all my life. He's playing you. Yeah sure, he seems worried now, but what do you think he'll do when he gets you back again?"

"He'll love me again..."

"Eun-ah." Zico pinched the bridge of his nose. "Do you even know what love is?"

Eun-ah stayed silent, not knowing what to say. She wiped at her eyes again, taking a deep breath.

"Love isn't something someone says after they hurt you," Zico said, an edge to his tone. "My dad used to pull that card all the time on my mom, all it does in the end is cause heart break and confusion. I don't want to see you end up that way too."

He chuckled humorlessly, trying to lighten the mood. Eun-ah could tell that the subject bothered Zico, but she stayed quiet and instead of saying anything, she wrapped her arms around his shoulders, embracing him in a hug. He hugged her back, but pulled away before he did something he'd regret.

"C'mon, it's almost time to close the shop, we should head home."

Eun-ah hesitantly nods, staring as the blonde boy went to lock the front doors.

Later on that night, Eun-ah stayed up, staring at the ceiling of Zico's room, contemplating what he had said. Since she was staying with them, Zico offered for her to stay in his room while he shared with Kyung. It was a nice gesture, but it kind of made Eun-ah feel uneasy. She would've been perfectly fine with sleeping on the couch.

But Zico was right.

Love isn't something says whenever they hurt you. Love should be something more special, shouldn't it?

Eun-ah took out her phone from her schol bag and turned it on. It had been off ever since she left the apartment, so when she turned it on, her phone blew up with voicemails and text messages.

All from Jonghyun.

Putting the phone on speaker, she listened to the sound of Jonghyun's voice as the voicemails began to play.

"Eun-ah, where are you?"

"Eun-ah, I'm sorry... Please come home."

"I need you."

"I didn't mean to say those mean things, you know I didn't."

"Please... Please just hear me out."

"Please come back."

"I love you."

Eun-ah's eyes began to water as the messages kept playing. Love. There was that word again. After hearing what Zico had to say, that word made her heart feel like cringing.

Jonghyun only ever said the word whenever he was sorry for doing something, or when he wanted something. He never said it just because.....

Maybe Zico was right.

Maybe Eun-ah did deserve better.
