"I need to talk to you" Skylar had called him. It was late, but there was something about her voice, which made him get up. He was in bed, looking at the time, it was way past midnight.

"Tell me now" he said, while he was making his way to the car. Getting dressed on the way.

"No Ryder...I can't tell you over the phone...I'm so sorry...please drive safe, don't speed...promise me!" She demanded, and he promised her.

He did not keep that promise.

He was scared, was something wrong with Skylar? Was she getting worse?

Of course he was worried. The drive to the hospital seemed endless. He was piercing through the darkness, all the while, his mind was wandering...he was thinking about the first kiss.

He was thinking about the first time...The only time.

He was scared...were those thoughts about to become mere memories?

He wasn't one to pray, but right then and there - he did. He prayed this wasn't it.

"I am not ready to let her go! If you are really there God...Please let her live. I will die without her in my life" that's what he said, his first conversation with God was a plee.

Opening the door to Skylar's room felt surreal.

She was standing by the window...to him that was a good sign, she wasn't in bed, that had to mean something, right?

He rushed to her side, she turned to face him.

"Ryder...I don't even know how to say this...there is no right way to say this" she looked down, but he forced her to look back up.

"Skylar...you are scaring me, just say it okay...just tell me what it is, what's wrong?" Ryder felt desperate!

"I thought you said we were careful" she didn't need to finish that sentence, he knew exactly what it was.

"Oh...my...G..!" He said, a little louder than he had intended. He just sat down on the bed, unable to move.

"Are you pregnant?" He asked her, almost whispering those dreaded words.

She nodded.

Time froze, he felt like everything had just stopped!

How do you respond to something like that?

A message like that will change your life! No matter what decision you make, it can either make you or break you! That's what he felt. Hearing those words had to be his worst nightmare.

"You are angry?" She whispered.

"Angry?" He repeated, and got up to hold her. He held her so tight, he refused to let go.

"I am not angry...why would I be? We are in this together Skylar...I am not going to leave or get scared! I love you" those words made her move, and he eventually let go of her.

"You really love me??" She asked him, and looked like she did not believe a word he just said.

"Of course I do...can't you see it on my face? I am telling you the truth! You changed my life...you changed me...I love you more than I have ever loved anyone" he touched her face gently.

"I love you too Ryder...what are we going to do?" She felt a huge relief, his reaction caught her by surprise...he seemed so calm now...so sincere.

"Did you take a test?" He wondered.

She nodded.

"My favorite nurse, Ellen helped me earlier today...she brought me a test, and told me to have a real one done tomorrow...I have a doctor's appointment in the morning" she said.

"I will stay here tonight, and go with you tomorrow" he said. He hugged her once more.

They cuddled up in bed, but didn't get much sleep...they didn't talk much...there was nothing more to say.

Ryder was just wondering - why he wasn't hoping it was a false alarm?? He always figured, having a girl tell him she was pregnant, would be a nightmare?

He suddenly wasn't opposed to the thought of having a kid...it would be his and Skylar's...that meant something.

Of course he was concerned, they were too young right? Skylar was sick, could she even bear a child?

He was thinking all these things, but eventually he fell asleep, and tomorrow morning came sooner than expected.

Sitting in front of the doctor was nervewrecking!

Waiting for the results was nervewrecking.

But nothing could prepare him for the answer he received just minutes later.

"Skylar is pregnant" the doctor had a serious look on her face passing on the news.

Ryder lost his ability to speak, and apparently so did Skylar! None of them said anything.

"This must come as a shock? You are the father?" The doctor asked, looking less concerned, she even mustered up a discrete smile.

Ryder just nodded.

This was so unexpected, he never saw this coming, he had been careful, he used protection...how could this be real?? He couldn't help to think about the conversation he had with God the day before...Skylar wasn't dying...she was carrying a life inside of her.

God sure has a sadistic side to Him?

Was this new found life going to kill Skylar?

He had to ask...he had to know!

"Can she even carry a baby? Can her body handle a pregnancy?" His voice sounded like a stranger talking.

"There is no indication that Skylar can't handle a normal pregnancy, but due to her condition, we have no way of knowing what will happen, if she decides to go through with it...I simply can't tell you...because, I don't know...I am willing lend my advice, but only based on my personal opinion, not my professional opinion...I simply have none...I never heard about a patient with sleeping beauty syndrome, who became pregnant. You might be the first ever" she stopped talking.

"Tell us what you think" Ryder said...Skylar was still silent. She hadn't uttered a word yet.

"I wouldn't risk Skylar's health...I would advise an abortion" she said.

Silence.

More silence.

"I can't have an abortion" Skylar said, she got up, and left the room.

"This is very unexpected...give her a little time Ryder...try to make her understand the risk she is taking...I don't know how Skylar's body is going to react to the pregnancy. She might be able to carry the child...even give birth...but what happens after? I just can't tell you" she stopped talking, as she realized Ryder was no longer listening.
