Chapter Six
Gusion woke up that morning. He felt good actually even though his wounds were still fresh but he felt light.
He remembered his conversation with Lesley last night. With that, a smile appeared in his lips. Though it immediately faded when he remembered something.
Why does it seems easy for me to smile when it is about her?
He looked around the clinic, trying to find a certain magenta-haired woman but there was no sight of her.
He was actually expecting her to be still sleeping on the couch but she wasn't there.
He frowned but then he shrugged. Maybe she's preparing breakfast.
Ever since Lesley actually healed her arm, she began cooking for them. And hell, the woman could really cook. She loved it when she helped the cooks of the castle- which were actually quite old so Lesley said it was better if they could rest sometime.
And honestly, they loved her cooking. He was even looking forward to consume her cooking whenever he was out for a mission. The reason why he wanted his missions to be accomplished quickly.
Though it was Harith that was her favorite to cook for too. She loved making pastries for Harith which the latter made ecstatic because he actually loved sweets.
Gusion knew that Lesley was seeing her little brother to Harith. And the Leonin was happy he could make Lesley forget her worry about her little brother even for a bit.
He carefully sat from the bed then his gaze fell on the bed on his side. Harith was still sleeping.
It was actually the first time he saw Harith like that. His eyes were full of rage and hatred for the dark assassin. Gusion knew Harith's story and he couldn't blame him if he acted like that. He was still a child, and the desire to take revenge on that dark assassin surfaced on Harith's heart.
Gusion didn't know how it felt to lose someone you love, to lose your family. His family were all alive, but he didn't even know how did it feel to be loved by someone.
Just wait and see you old fools, my power will be known in the Land of Dawn without your help.
The door opened and Gusion was excited to see someone but he was disappointed when he saw Kimmy.
"Oh, hi Gusion. Good to know you're already awake. How are you feeling?" Kimmy said while placing their breakfast on the bedside table.
"Hell, but I'll live." Gusion answered, "Where's Lesley?"
"Lesley?" Kimmy reiterated, "The last time I saw her was last night when she took over on watching you two. You didn't see her when you wake up?"
Gusion was quite shock but he didn't showed it to Kimmy. He felt something was wrong but he chose to shrug it off. "I don't, didn't she prepare that breakfast?"
Kimmy shook her head, "No. The cooks were the ones who prepared this."
Something's not right. His gut feeling was telling him so.
"Did you check her room? Maybe she moved there to sleep." He said.
"I will check after you eat your breakfast, clean your wounds and take your medicines. Tigreal said he will be coming back here this afternoon to check on both of you."
Gusion just nodded and began eating his breakfast. Kimmy decided not to wake up Harith from his slumber because they knew that the child was regaining his energy.
While eating, Gusion couldn't shake off the negative feeling he was feeling right now.
It was very unlikely of the sniper to overslept since she was really a morning person. She was used on having short naps even before because she was protecting Harley in the shadows. Lesley could slept very late but she could still wake up very early without feeling sleepy.
Gusion was thinking of finding her in the castle after he ate his breakfast, but then he felt sleepy when he took his medicine. He forgot that it was a side effect of the medicine.
And so, he fell asleep with the thought of the sniper.
=====
"It's not here." A voice of a boy said after rummaging a room with important items.
"Not here too." A female android-like voice said, "Monitor Lizard? How about there?"
"None." A deep voice answered.
"Let's go then." A boy said then he teleported towards their mobile which was like a scorpion.
"Doctor Leo will be disappointed again." The female android said as they drove away from the building.
"He is the one ordering us. It's not our fault that his research about the location is always wrong." He shrugged.
"Stubborn Octopus." The female android retorted.
"Come on Vespid, you know I'm just stating the facts." He reasoned.
"Whatever." The female named Vespid said, ending the conversation.
They reached the laboratory where they resided. It also became their headquarters.
"Doctor Leo, we're here." Vespid announced as they entered the laboratory.
They found him standing in front of the capsule of Nephilia, who was still unconscious.
"News?" Doctor Leo shortly answered.
"It's not there." He simply answered.
Doctor Leo just sighed and fixed his glasses before turning to look at them.
"We need to find it quickly. There was a news circulating about me though they still don't know my name and location. But the empire is already making their moves." Doctor Leo said while showing them a newspaper which was the Eye of the Dawn.
"Empire?" Monitor Lizard asked.
"Moniyan Empire." Doctor Leo specified, "But they are quite busy with the Dark Abyss now but there's still another problem."
"What is it?" Octopus asked.
"There's a squad that is specializing this case against us." Doctor Leo said, "I want you to be careful."
"What squad?" Vespid asked while catching her puppet.
"SABER." The doctor answered shortly.
"Sa...ber?" Vespid asked in a trail as she stopped chasing her puppet.
The doctor seemed apalled for a jiffy with Vespid's reaction but he immediately shook it off. "Just be careful from them." The scientist just said, ending the conversation as he went back on monitoring Nephilia.
Octopus couldn't help it but to wonder why the doctor reacted like that when Vespid mentioned Saber.
Is that squad connected to Vespid before she lost her memories?
Octopus was actually aware that he lost all of his memories. Actually, he felt like he was... programmed. He didn't feel any certain emotion such as pity, love or whatever but he still had his curiosity.
And now he wondered...
Do I have a family before I became like this? Are they searching for me?
=====
Lesley decided to stay in a small town for tonight.
It had been three days since she left the Moniyan Castle. She actually felt guilty on leaving without saying goodbye to them personally, but she didn't have a plan on going back.
I'll just burden them. I'll find Harley on my own.
Tired from whole day walking, Lesley decided to stay at a small inn she first saw.
She had some gold coins with her. She traded some of her things to a merchant in exchange of some currency that she could used for days.
She was hunting some wild animals too in exchange of currency and food, for her to survive.
She mumbled a thank you to the landlady as she gave her the key to her room for tonight.
She deposited all of her things on the floor before flopping to a single bed in a starfish position.
She didn't know what was the name of the town but she knew that she was still in the Moniyan territory.
She actually tried going back to the place where she last saw Harley to find some trails or evidence but she found none.
I still don't know where to start searching.
Lesley sighed as her mind drifted to the Moniyan Castle.
I wonder how they are. I hope they are all okay. Maybe Harith and Gusion were already healed.
She let out another sigh once again that she didn't know she slowly drifted to sleep.
=====
Gusion groaned when he woke up. His head was actually aching.
"Good afternoon Gusion." He heard Harith greeted him.
He looked on his side to see Harith was already awake, though he was still lying on his bed with bandages all over his body.
He frowned, "I thought you wouldn't wake up for days." He looked at the window and saw that the sun was already high up the sky, "What time is it?"
"It's afternoon already. And you've been asleep for three days, according to big sis Fanny." Harith answered.
Gusion whipped his head to the Leonin with widened eyes, "Three days?"
Harith nodded, "Yes. Kimmy said that your body responded to the side effects of the medicine that much. But she added that it was a good thing because you'll be able to regain your energy quickly."
Gusion muttered several curses under his breath. He couldn't believe he was asleep for three days.
He slowly stood and stretched his body. It was aching, but his body would ache more if he didn't get up.
"Do you feel okay now, Har?" Gusion asked and faced the Leonin.
Harith looked down and fidgetted on his blanket, "I'm sorry for being reckless Gusion. And now you're injured too because of me."
Gusion smiled a little and walked towards the kid before ruffling his hair, "I understand you. But you should control your emotions next time okay? We will make them pay Harith. We will."
Harith just sobbed and hugged him while crying. He winced because Harith poked some of his wounds but he endured it and hugged the kid back.
"I'll just walk around, will you be okay?" Gusion asked him.
Harith just nodded so he walked out of the clinic.
He started walking and his feet unconsciously brought him in front of Lesley's room.
He took a deep breath before he knocked three times.
He waited for seconds, but there was no response.
Maybe she is practicing?
Gusion didn't know why, but he wanted to see her now badly. Maybe because he opened up himself to her for the first time. The burden he was feeling all along, he shared it to Lesley so he wanted to thank her.
He was on his way to the training grounds when he saw Fanny with his brother, Tigreal.
He did a salute to Tigreal before asking, "Have you seen Lesley?"
The two looked surprised and then sad all of a sudden.
Tigreal shook his head, while Fanny looked away, he could see tears were forming in her eyes.
Gusion had a bad feeling about it, especially when Tigreal handed him a letter, "You were asleep for three days so we couldn't tell you."
His hands were shaking as he reached for the letter and read it.
Sir Tigreal,
Forgive me if I was not brave enough to say this in person. I'm afraid that I will not be able to bid a goodbye to all of you because you became parts of my life now.
I'm sorry for asking you to help me find my little brother, not knowing you have Dark Abyss to be taken care of. Forgive me for being inconsiderate.
I will be forever thankful for all your help. I'll personally say thank you to all of you once I find and save my little brother.
Please tell the others to always take care of themselves and I will meet you again in the near future if ever we cross our paths.
I'm sorry that I have to leave the empire, I don't want to burden all of you.
Forever thankful,
Lesley Vance
Gusion couldn't help himself but to crumpled the letter written by Lesley.
He felt betrayed. She promised him, she promised him she would be there once he woke up.
So she left that night.
He let out a mocking laugh before he threw the paper on the floor and stormed towards the pinkette's room.
He bursted the door open and saw that it really didn't have the sniper's things. He walked to the closet to see that it was empty.
Gusion was frustrated and he didn't even know why. It was Lesley's choice to leave and he couldn't do anything about it.
But why was he was so bothered? Worried?
In two months that Lesley stayed in the castle, they actually talked rarely since he was always out for missions. But their rare talks were actually serious talks- about their hardships, life experiences, beliefs- name it.
He couldn't tell if they were really close but he could tell that somehow, she knew the real him, and vice versa.
Gusion clucked his tongue before he walked towards his room.
=====
Tigreal was standing on the balcony of his office that night. It was nearly midnight, and he was just staring at the full moon.
He heard the door of his office opened and someone stood beside him.
At the same time, they saw a particular brunette with his bag, making his way outside the castle.
"Aren't you going to stop him, Brother?" He heard his little sister asked.
"You have the ability to chase him right away, but you're still standing here."
Fanny shook her head lightly, "I can't. Part of me was really hoping he'd follow her."
"And even if I stop him, he would be following her anyway." Tigreal said, "That's better because we know he wouldn't let Lesley to get hurt."
The siblings just stared at that particular someone until he banished from their sight.
"Be careful on your way on finding her, Gusion." Tigreal whispered in the wind.
~~~~~
