34: Just In Case
"Brr," Xiyi shuddered.
"Xiyi?"
"Yiyi, s– s– s– so c– c– cold..."
Lan Jingyi nodded and took off his cloak, wrapped it around her shoulders, swathed her tummy, tied a knot with the sleeves at her neck to secure it. "Better?"
"A b– bit......."
Jingyi smirked and slithered his arms around her waist, clasping his hands on top of the minuscule feet kicking inside her. "Better now?"
"A lot," Jin Xiyi smiled and nodded. "Yiyi, how's Sizhui doing? You didn't let me go meet him, made me stay in here all these days," she pouted. "And I haven't seen Xiuying!"
"Hey, don't blame me! I'm not the one ready to give birth in a matter of days! No more random trips until this one comes out, okay?"
"Whatever," Jin Xiyi grumbled.
While the two sat there on their backyard, Jingyi cutting work for an hour or two to wait until she fell asleep, someone walked up to their wall and peeped over. "Jingyi, Xiyi, hello!"
"Sizhui!" Xiyi beamed.
"What's up?" Jingyi nodded.
"Problem."
"What?"
"A-Ling. In three nights, he's going to go fiercely feral."
"WHAT!"
"Yes. Mind coming over to Daddy's place? Xiyi should stay–"
"Sizhui, Yiyi, for your information, that man you're talking about is my cousin brother!" Jin Xiyi stood with her husband's help and hastily walked with them to the Jingshi.
Seeing Jiang Cheng and Lan Xichen seated with Lan Wangji, Xiyi looked around, searching for Wei Wuxian.
Only to find him seated between Lan Zhan and Jin Ling, pulling the latter harshly by the ear.
"Just WHAT were you thinking, not telling us, huh? What do you take us for? What in the world is the point of having TWO fathers if you aren't even going to tell them what's worrying you? SPEAK TO ME!" He gripped the violet ear and shook him hard.
"Daddy!" Jin Ling screamed, clenching his fists in pain.
"So now you remember I'm your Daddy?"
"Daddy I'm sorry..." he sniffed.
"NO you're NOT! You wouldn't have done such a thing otherwise! It's alright for you to go tell your uncles but not your fathers?" Wei Wuxian pulled the ear again, almost as if he was trying to rip it off the flushed face. "LAN ZHAN! You're not helping!"
"A-Ying," Lan Zhan sighed. "You're being too harsh–"
"HARSH? He should be glad I'm not cutting this ear off, damn it!"
Seeing Jin Rulan flinching under the tug on his ear, Lan Jingyi failed to stifle his "Pfft!"
"Oi!" Xiyi elbowed him hard.
"Jingyi," Sizhui shook his head and made them sit down at the table beside Jin Ling.
"Daddy, it pains!"
"Then you PROMISE! Make amends!"
"I promise, I promise!"
"Promise what!?"
"I-promise-to-never-hide-things-from-you-again! Ow-ow-ow! I-swear-on-Daddy!"
"Good," Wei Wuxian let go of the purple ear and sat upright, crossed his arms, stared at the wall somewhere, pouting angrily.
Jin Rulan sniffled and rubbed his nose on his sleeve, quickly wiping his face before Lan Jingyi began laughing at him.
Wei Wuxian felt a nudge on his lap. He turned to see Lan Zhan placing a handkerchief on it. He shot his husband a glare, but all he got in return was a calm smile. Relenting, melting, he took the handkerchief and held it in front of Jin Ling's face. "HM!"
"Th– Thank you, Daddy," Jin Ling mumbled and accepted the favour.
"Ahem," Lan Xichen cleared his throat. "Wuxian-di, you really should be gent–"
"Gege," Lan Zhan shook his head once.
"Erm. Alright then," Xichen quickly changed topic before Wei Wuxian got mad at Jin Ling again. "So, since everyone's here... now what do we do?"
Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes. "You do realise those two don't know yet, right?"
"Right," Xichen nodded and turned to Lan Jingyi, briefly explaining the situation.
"Goodness..." Jingyi scratched his head. "It's that serious?"
"Obviously Daddy and Father have a solution," Xiyi grinned.
"Why?" Lan Wangji asked her.
"You two always do!" She beamed.
Lan Zhan bit the inside of his cheek, contemplating.
Wei Wuxian... was clueless.
"Nope, I don't know about A-Zhan's wonderful brain but me? No, this time, I really don't know... I mean, we can't prevent the superblood wolfmoon from coming. The soothsayer said bloodshed was inevitable but let's not go to the pessimistic point-of-view... The least we could do is something to help retain this guy's rage on that night."
"Yep," Jiang Cheng and Lan Jingyi both nodded.
"Would the usual music do?" Sizhui asked.
"No, if it's rage on the level of world chaos, then..." Lan Xichen shook his head.
"Aish, Sizhui, you are overthinking it. I say smack his head and bring him out of the reverie or whatever the crap it is," Jin Xiyi harrumphed.
"When would people stop hitting me?" Jin Ling pouted.
"WHEN you start understanding that you can TALK to us? We're your siblings, and these two are your FATHERS!"
"Exactly my point, my sweet daughter is the only one who understands me," Wei Wuxian kissed the top of her head. "Even someone else here isn't HELPING?" He looked daggers at his husband.
Lan Wangji curtly spoke up. "Distraction."
"I can see that. More like 'disgrace'."
"No, I mean distraction. Distract Rulan on the night of the superblood wolfmoon."
"Ey?" Wei Wuxian rubbed his nose. "Distract.......? Like, how?"
"Make him train?" Jiang Cheng asked.
"That'll exhaust him."
"Making him meditate would only make him nervous, he wouldn't be able to concentrate with the aroused energy so..." Lan Xichen tapped his chin. "Wangji, you mean we distract him?"
"Mn."
"Yes, that should work."
"Sometimes," Wei Wuxian grinned. "The rapport of the Twin Jades beats my sense of compatibility with my own husband," he laughed. "A-Zhan darling, Gege, mind explaining?"
Lan Xichen nodded. "We can get Jin Ling to stay with us all throughout that night. Inside, away from the sight of the moon, inside a room or hall, all of us there for him to chat and just have fun, distract him from the rest of the world."
"Hey, now that's an idea! Let the moon come, do it's crap, and go away," Lan Jingyi smiled broadly.
"We'll be in here, chatting, drinking, not giving a damn about the world outside the doors. Now that is an idea," Jiang Cheng nodded.
"It is," Wei Wuxian nodded. "Little Rulan, what do you say?"
"If it works... okay," Rulan nodded.
"Then... three nights from now, we meet up right here, yes?"
"The same bunch of us? Here at the Jingshi? Noted," Jingyi bobbed his head.
"Then it's settled," Wei Wuxian beamed at them and rose. He walked to the bed and picked up the infant dozing on Lan Zhan's sandalwood-scented pillow. "XiaXia, asleep?"
Mingxia rolled over in his arms and snuggled into his warmth.
"Little Rulan," Wei Wuxian sat back at the table. "Are you staying a while longer? Or do you want to go now?"
"I..." Jin Ling gulped. "I don't know."
"Hey, calm down, okay? Trust me, we'll get you through this. By the next morning, things will be back to the way they were." Wuxian frowned and thought for a minute, before smirking and taking his son's hands in his, having carefully laid his granddaughter on his husband's lap. "Little Rulan... don't tell me..."
"Daddy?"
"Since everyone here knows already, you wouldn't mind me asking this with everyone here... even the him in question... but..."
Jin Ling frowned, readying himself for the blast to come.
"Don't tell me this moon thing is the reason you stayed away from him?"
"I... Daddy.......... No, it wasn't...... Well..........."
"Haha, no hiding from me, young man. Both me and A-Zhan noticed you visiting A-Yuan less. Is this why? But I don't get it!"
"You'll never get him, Daddy. Neither will I," Sizhui stood, bowed to them and walked to the door. "Then I'll arrange for some food and Emperor's Smile to be brought here on that night. Excuse me," he nodded to them and slammed the doors shut behind him.
Wei Wuxian gawked at the door. "He... left? Ready to help, but not to mingle? Little Rulan... promise me you'll make amends?"
"I.... will..... when...."
"When this dreadful moon has gone?"
"Mn."
"Good." Wei Wuxian nodded. "Ey, Xiyi, here!" Wei Wuxian changed the topic seeing that Mingxia had just woken up and was playing with Lan Zhan's hair.

"A-Ying?"
"Yes, darling?"
"A-Ying, what are you doing?"
"Polishing."
"What is it you're polishing?"
"Heixing."
"Your ring? Why?"
"Just... just in case. In case it comes to be of use..."
"But the ring... you can't kill a demoness or Nine-Tailed Fox or Qiong Qi with that, A-Ying."
"I know."
"Then you're preparing it for–"
"Yes. But only if necessary, will I use it. Don't worry."
"Mn. Where's Suibian?"
"Why?"
"To polish it along with Bichen. Like you said. Just in case."
"Well then. Here you go."
