chapter8
Friday was quick to come. It looked promising and just as we were done moving into our various classes after the assembly, Mrs. Beauty our form teacher entered the class looking immortalized as usual.
Yes, she was one complicated person I've seen in this life. She was so addicted to the ring aspect in jeweleries.
She had her ears pierced up to three holes. She had a hole bored on her nose, for the sake of a nose ring. She also wore series of trinkets and anklets. How can I forget to add that she always wore waist chains.
We got to know that when one day in class, her marker fell down. She bent down to pick it up and her blouse went up.
She was just something else. Many of us wondered how her husband tolerates such things but then it was non of our business.
"Good morning, Aunty Beauty. You're welcome to SS3A." We chorused the greeting.
She nodded at us and we sat down not without some of us making side comments.
Mrs Beauty began asking of how we were and how we coped with our studies.
"Hopefully, you all know what next week Friday is all about?" She asked no one in particular.
Next week?
It definitely couldn't be any other silly programmes hosted by the school. Last time our school hosted a programme, it was all about hygiene.
The school wasted two hours of our precious time because of boring talks of how to keep the body clean.
Well, some students did need the pep talk.
"Please listen attentively, for those of you that seems to have forgotten, next week Friday is your dinner party. And you all should figure out your dress code." Mrs Beauty told us as she held an expressionless look.
"Remember this will be your last dinner party in Standard High. So you should make the best of it and keep memories." She continued.
Chelsea interjected. "So is this another way of permitting us to bring our phones to school?"
"If you are caught, you are on your very own. I didn't spell out phone. Play your cards well." She stated and most of us held sly smiles.
We loved her so much because she could relate well with us. Something most teachers couldn't do.
"But everything must be done in moderation and..."
"Decency!" Many of us completed for her. That was like her best quote.
As if she herself was putting it to practice. With all those rings on her body, it sounded ironic coming from her.
She left the class later on to the staff room while we began chatting away in groups.
"I hope dinner parties here is good. Back in my formal school it's a real bomb." Naomi louded her voice and she earned eye rolls.
"No one here begged you to transfer here. In fact, it's so obvious that you are not needed. So please do both the class and yourself a favour of shutting up or thinking before you talk. Either of it can serve." Chelsea retorted with a spine chilling hiss.
"I wasn't talking to you, please." Naomi voiced out irritatedly.
"Oh please, save that look for when next you spare yourself a glance at the mirror." Chelsea spoke with disdain.
"Kaima this one you are not talking. Is something the matter?" Adanna walked up to me. I guess she had been observing me.
I shrugged. "Nothing, just school stress." This made Adanna chuckle. "School stress? You haven't even entered university and you are being stressed out. Simply tell your mother to open a tailoring shop for you."
We laughed about it.
"Are you still angry because of Dindu? Babe cheer up o. This whole thing will lead nowhere. You should make the best of your remaining days here." She advised and I just nodded.
"That woman that came to talk to us on teen stuff. That one that the boys kept insulting when we returned to class na." I was heading somewhere.
"Ehen? What's with her?"
"Funny enough, that woman is Naomi's mother. I couldn't believe it myself until I saw them discussing after Naomi ran after her."
Adanna's eyes widened like saucers. "You don't mean it! Wait...are you sure you aren't kidding right now?"
I rolled my eyes. "I'm not a clown, sis. After that her boring advice, she left with Naomi on her tail. You know, Curiosity kills the cat. I couldn't stay in one piece after seeing her act like she did. So I ordered Adaora, that junior girl to find out where they went to and then see if she could get something out."
Adanna wanted to hear more. "You are a legit bitch," She chuckled. "So Adaora brought back a news?"
I gave her a look. "Of course! She told me that the woman was indeed her mother. I was just surprised through out the day."
"So the woman is Naomi's mother and she haven't impacted an atom of sense into her. Hm, Wahala!" Adanna shook her head.
"That one concerns them. If they like let them turn themselves to public toilets or whatsoever. It is their own problem not mine." I stated.
"But the woman might actually be ignorant of her daughter's way of life. It happens, you know." Adanna reasoned.
"I don't want to continue this discussion again. Enough with the Naomi topic." I was tired of discussing a particular bitch.
"Who knows something I so much abhor? It's talking about me at my back. I so much despise people that do that. And you aren't exempted, Kaima. I don't like you."
A voice spoke up and we both turned only to behold the most annoying creature ever - Naomi.
"The feeling is mutual, dearie. And please, if you do not mind, get the hell out of my sight." I raised my voice.
I was raged. Anger was swelling my heart. And I just wanted to hit her. No, gun her down.
I wasn't proud of the fact that she overheard Adanna and I discussing her. But her standing in front of me to talk like someone that is so so perfect or something like that is just what I couldn't stand.
"I'm getting out of nowhere! I paid the same school fees that you paid. And mind you, I'm not some gullible creature that you can manipulate or intimidate to bend to your rule. I'm just being cool about all this. Next time, you won't just see ice but fire."
A scene just got created. Anytime Adanna open her mouth to stop us from exchanging words, one of us would beat her to it.
"I will take that as another stupid statement of yours! You should be after saving your own damned soul not looking for who to burn or not. I guess you are oblivious of who I am. Don't even try to act the fire because when the actual fire flames up, you will be burnt mercilessly and left in shame." I pointed at her with my index finger.
"If I were you, I would have long ended this animation I call a life." I stood up to walk out.
"Go to hell for this, Kaima!" She yelled after me.
I chuckled deeply. "Sure. But I will drag you along."
Then I exited the class.
Fresh air hit me and I breathed out in relief that I was done with that mad woman.
Where next now?
I asked myself.
An idea hit me and I immediately walked to the staff room. My head was held high as I took every step to my destination.
"Excuse me teachers, can I enter?" I asked while battling my long natural lashes.
I entered when I got permitted. Straight to my business, I walked over to the literature teacher's table.
"I've been wanting to talk to you. I don't think I'm in the slightest bit interested again in heading the Life club." I didn't beat around the bush.
"Why?"
"I'm in my exam classes. Right now, my priority should be passing my external examinations not being a president over some novel club. I'm stepping down, ma."
"What if I say no?" She arched a brow at me as she dared me to respond.
"I'm afraid, right now my opinion is all that matters. Besides, Naomi Ike can step up to take that position. Trust me, she would like it."
"If you say so, Kaima. But then, thanks for your input into the club so far. Surely, the clubbers will miss you." I smiled at her words and turned to leave.
"Come and buy me two can waters from the canteen." I recognized the voice of Mr Maxwell - the Economics teacher.
Instantly, my expression darkened. I walked over to his table and collected the money while resisting the strong urge to roll my eyes.
"When you come back, come and collect this notes and give to SS2A Biology students. And then tell your classmates to not let me remind them to complete their notes. Anyways, I'll be having you guys next period." She said while I internally groaned.
I should have respected myself and gone somewhere else instead of here.
That was another reason why students hated coming to the staff room. The teachers would turn them to their errand boy or girl. Or even worse, announce something annoying like this.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
To say that I was surprised was nothing compared to the tricks my eyes must have played on me. I entered my mom's car and beheld 'Zimuzor Igwe' - the horrible definition of my past.
My fucked up childhood friend.
"Good evening," I greeted my mom as I entered the car wondering what he was doing here.
"Good evening dear, how was school?" Came her reply.
I almost rolled my eyes at her. She would be asking me this questions as if I was still a kid.
Well, a sixteen year old girl is still a kid!
I scowled at my sub conscious.
What i couldn't understand is what this God forsaken bastard is doing in my mom's car.
Let me let you on how he's the perfect description of my horrible past. This dude happened to be the only son and child of his parents. His mother was my mom's best friend.
Zimuzor was one of the main reasons I was bullied in this school. He would come to school then when we were in the junior secondary section and blow all sort of lies about me, which people believed because we lived in the same estate then.
I would never forget the day he lied to the boys, telling them that I started wearing bra in JSS1. For crying out loud, how possible?! He just wanted them to make fun of me and of course they did.
They were all searching for the breast that I was wearing bra for.
I was as flat as a wall so how on earth could I wear bra so early?
He said very mean things about me which I wouldn't even like to recall.
Presently now, I'm moderately endowed. My body structure is not something someone would bad mouth me with.
I threw him cold mean looks when I looked at him. But I wouldn't deny the fact that he was looking quite handsome and stunning.
I wondered why I was even checking him out.
"Alright kids, come down." My mom announced when we reached home and I couldn't help but give her some death glares.
Kid ko...Youth ni
"Mom, there is a stranger left to be dropped." I quickly reminded her of zimuzor.
She sent me death glares as she tried to look as comported as ever. I could read her expression. It was telling me to respect myself and act nice or I would be in for it.
"He will be staying with us for the year. His parents are getting things worked out in South Africa." She deadpanned.
I chuckled. This was indeed a dream. It had better been because there was no way I could stay in the same roof with this guy. Not after slandering my name and leaving me to carry my cross all alone. And now that I have built a castle out of the ashes he reduced me to, he has appeared out of nowhere.
Dreams! Mom wake up before I empty a bucket of cold water on you like you usually do to me. How can you allow a perveted crook to stay with us for a whole year?
I turned to look at the 'Point of argument'. He was still looking as arrogant as ever. But by the time I would be done with him, he would personally take a flight back to wherever he came from.
When my mom unlocked the door, we all entered. Not wasting time, I headed straight to my room.
"Change your clothe and come help me out in the kitchen." I heard my mom shout after me.
I groaned. "I'm not eating dinner!"
I could imagine her eyebrows perfectly forming an arch. "Really? So that is your reason of not coming to help me out? I better not wait for you young woman!" Her voice was firm.
"I'll help, ma." Zimuzor offered and I couldn't help but scoff. Let him keep deceiving those he thought he could deceive.
"Thanks dearie," My mom flashed him a cool smile and then eyed me.
As if I cared.
Thirty minutes later, when I was sure that everyone was through with dinner, I headed straight to my mom's room.
Twice did I knock but she didn't answer so I turned the door knob and helped myself in.
"I didn't tell you to come in." Her voice was low but harsh.
I shrugged. "You didn't answer so I guess you are still mad at me." She still didn't say a word so I continued. "You should have told me that he would be coming over."
"I should have told you, as per first lady? Look, I don't want what happened this evening to repeat itself ever again. You had the guts to refuse my order of helping me out in the kitchen. And then, you were comfortably resting in your room while someone else helped me out." She scolded me with a stern look.
"Besides," She continued her chastising. "Your dad isn't even aware. I would call and inform him before I go to bed. Everything came up right away and I had to do it then."
I pouted with moist eyes. "That's why I came to apologize." I made her know.
"That's all right so far it doesn't repeat itself again. Go and call me Zimuzor." She said and I frowned.
"You will not call him, now?" She stared accusingly at me.
Honestly, I didn't want to. Not to be a rebel but because it would only inflate his ball of ego. I didn't want to speak to him first.
"Act matured and go call him!" My mom raised her voice at the command and I did just what she bided.
I got to the spacious room given to him and opened the door without knocking. "Hey, my mom is calling you".
He acted as though no one was talking to him and continued smiling as he foolishly typed away on his phone. I left him and marched to my room. If he had thought that snubbing me would make feel angry then he was so wrong because I wouldn't even give him the negative emotions.
Twenty minutes later, the bag of spoilt beans opened my door without knocking. "Did you trade your manners with a lame man?" I snapped at him, with frown etched all over my face.
What if I was undressing the time he came in?
"Not sure if I did, but you sure faulted some minutes ago. You practically did the same to me." He stated matter-of-factly.
"Excuse you! there are lots of differences between the both of us." I wanted to pass the message through his thick skull.
"You mean those stuff on your chests and that behind?" He asked with a dirty smirk across his lips.
His cute lips.
"Whatever you call it just get your feet into action and get it out of my room." I yelled in annoyance and disgust.
Me or You, who is the better bad ass shit?!
