chapter15

"How was the exam? Hope it went well?" Mom passed me a medium sized farm fresh yoghurt and two sausage rolls. Without hesitation, I opened the drink and gulped down a reasonable amount.

"It...it was okay." That was all that I could say. There was nothing more to utter.

"It better be o. It will be a shame if you fail and have to re write your JAMB next year." She began with those annoying statements again. "Well, not to talk too much, I will enroll you into Standard High again next year, if you don't make it."

A deep frown masked my face. I sighed and bit deep into my sausage roll. Right now, all I could do was totally ignore her.

My mind was here and there. It was everywhere. How time flies and the long awaited JAMB examination has come and gone for me. I was among the nine o'clock batch which was fortunate for me cause heaven knows I wouldn't have made it early to the venue had I been among the seven o'clock batch.

I was wondering what my mates that had their paper today was probably thinking of. Like, I was a bit sure of what I wrote. What others? What of Dindu?

I hissed immediately. Why was I even still thinking of that idiot that thinks that all girls are the same, hence, I will run back into his arms once he tells me some stupid lie or puts up a silly attitude.

"Are you alright? Is there anything...about the exam you want to talk to me about? Are you sure of what you wrote?!" That was mom acting concerned.

I chuckled darkly. "Do you want me to fail this exam?"

She immediately rejected it. "God forbid! Why will I want the only apple of my eyes to fail?"

I nodded. "Then stop pestering me with those kind of questions. I've already told you that I wrote well, what other part of the exam do you still want to hear."

"Everything." Mom still went ahead to respond. I glared at her and actually rolled my eyes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For the rest of the week, I gave myself a break. I felt this type of vibe that needed me away from school and friends. I just wanted to be alone.
"You want to see a movie?" The deep voice of Zimuzor filled the air of my room where I sprawled lazily on my bed, with an ear of my earpiece inserted into my right ear. I was listening to an emo rap.
I turned to face him. "What? Movie? I'm in."
To be sincere to myself, I was not...never in the mood to leave my bed, talk more of leave this house to one silly cinema to see a movie I wasn't sure if I will like. But that was me being or should I say, acting good hearted.
With the burial of his parents around the corner, I promised myself to always get out of his way and then act like a normal person when he approaches me.
And now, I just felt like acting cool to him by accepting this invitation.
"Stop!" I rubbed softly on my scalp as I morphed my face into a frown when he knocked my head. "What's that for?"
He laughed and I immediately forgave him, cause I had plans on returning that knock in the most severe way that would leave him with migraine all through his life. "Spacing out and keeping me waiting."
"Get out!" I tried terribly to hide the smile that was creeping up my face. It was so hard cause moments like this with him was seldom.
He shook his head, signifying that he was leaving nowhere and I then sent him a devious glare. "After committing the offence of not knocking before barging into my room, you still went on to knock me on the head. Don't you know that I'm fragile?"
Zimuzor sent me a look before erupting into an uproarious laughter. "You...fragile?"
I frowned. "Of course, wait...and what was that meant to mean? I'm a lady!"
He raised up his both hands in mock surrender. "Alright, milady." Then he turned to leave.
"Coconut headed ostrich!" I muttered but he seemed to hear it cause he turned and faced me.
"Kaima," He shook his head. "It's like you dropped your sense in that centre you wrote your JAMB. Where do you get all this foolish names from, again?"
I suppressed a laugh. I didn't want to look more foolish. "Just dress up quick, my guys will soon arrive to pick us up." He finished.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"What are you now expecting me to do? Turn into Mr Bean animations to amuse you?" I muttered and raised a brow even though she couldn't see nor hear.

Without hesitation I deleted the message she sent to me as I stood in front of my shoe rack looking for the particular heels to wear with the black knee length gown that slitted from my knee up to my thigh.

Wasn't she the one that talked of our friendship being over since I haven't made up with Dindu. And now she had the effrontery to message me 'Kaima, I'm so bored!'

With a small smile playing on my lips, I picked out a two inched golden heel sandals to match my dress. Then I walked majestically to my long mirror nailed to the wall and had the perfect view of my tall, brown skinned self.

I wasn't the kind of person to say, Hey! It's just going to see a movie. It was a sure thing for me to prepare very well for outings when I feel a bit of vibe.

This was definitely not the time for me keep wallowing in loneliness and sorrows just because I am missing some idiot.

I really really missed that idiot...that particular idiot that would snake his hands around my waist and whisper something into my ears and his lips does the magic of kissing my neck till I would want to melt into puddle.

But, I wasn't going to accept being the one to go over to him and beg him for a crime I mistakenly committed. All right, I saw the girl touching him and him resisting a bit. At least, he wasn't really making out with her. And he still likes me? Maybe cause he's been all over till he began ignoring me.

It hurt. It really hurts cause I just want to pull that silly hair of the purposed junior girl in SS2 till she get bald.

A buzz interrupted the dead silence in my room. For a moment, I wished it was him. But unfortunately, it was Adanna. Without bothering to read her message, I cleared the current notifications that I had and then proceeded to delete her text from my inbox.

A knock stopped me from sliding into another round of thoughts. "Aren't you done dressing?"

I took five steps from my mirror and then plopped on my bed which bounced, reacting to my voluntary act. "Get the fuck in."

The door creaked open a bit first, and then a head peeped in before the whole door finally got fully opened and the creature walked right in.

"My friends are here. By the way, you look over dressed for just going to see a movie at the cinema." Zimuzor won't just carry a positive vibe for once in his sad life!

"You can now leave my room." I said icily without any emotions. How would I? When his bad contagious energy already drained mine.

"I'm sorry. I was simply kidding with you. Of course, you look just perfect for the occasion." Even though I sensed that he was being sarcastic in his plea, I waved his misbehaviour away and then stood up to leave for the private lounge.

"I invited Ezinne too." He added and my eyes immediately widened. When? How? Why?

"How did you do that? You just met her some weeks ago." I was like trying to remind myself of that fact. That they barely met.

But...but...

"I have her WhatsApp number, so I practically chatted her up and asked if she was interested and she quickly replied positively. She's in the private lounge with the boys."

I looked at him as if he was some strange figure. "By boys, you mean our class boys?"

He shrugged. "A blend of our class boys and some other friends of mine." Then he dragged me out of my room but I still to shut my door before letting him further drag me down the stairs and across the visitors lounge to the family's private lounge, like a Christmas goat.

Was he trying to make them feel special to taking them to the private lounge? I hissed as I muttered "Trash".

He pushed sideways the adamant glass sliding door that hitched at some places. It was after he let me step into the lounge first that he dropped my hand and as if on cue, my eyes darted here and there and then froze.

It actually froze. Not just my eyes but my whole being. Deeper and deeper, my eyes sank into those familiar once. As if broken from the spell, I frowned angrily and spat out. "What brings you here?"

"Kaima!" Ezinne called out and I gave her the stop there sign. She was was on black joggers and white converse. Her lips was painted black as well and her light make up was to fit that of a mean girl when she but a fifteen years old girl.

"You didn't tell me he would be coming?" I stared furiously at Zimuzor and it pained me more that he merely shrugged.

"Fine girl, chill." A black lipped bastard that was unfortunately a friend of him chipped in with a dirty irritating wink which made him look ridiculous.

"I'm definitely at the right place with the wrong set of people." I took two steps back before I finally turned and walked away.

Like a defeated fool.
