Epliogue

Two Years Later

Hawke shook his head as he bounced his son Falcon on his knee and watched his daughter running back and forth in front of the porch to keep up with her uncles pacing. Wolf had long since stopped following their footsteps and had flopped himself down in the sun with Janna.

"You know someone once told me that if you dig a deep enough hole you can fall straight through the earth and land in China. I would say you are getting close with that ditch you are wearing in the yard with your big feet." Jack stopped pacing and glared over him.

"Shut up, Hawke." he snapped. "Nobody likes a smart ass injun."

"Yeah daddy, nobody likes a smart ass injun." Sarah agreed. Hawke raised his brow at Jack who grinned sheepishly.

"Sarah, you shouldn't talk the way I do. I don't say very nice things." he said. A yell of pain filled the air and Jack renewed his pacing.

"I should be in there!" he grumbled. Hawke nodded and chuckled as he relaxed back in his chair.

"And if you had not been such a grouch then Lily and Doc Mason would not have run you out." Jack stopped pacing again and Sarah ran into him with a giggle.

"You're enjoying this aren't you?" Jack demanded. "I'm a nervous damn wreck, Hawke. I ain't cut out to be a daddy! What if I break it or what if it hates me… Hell listen to me I'm calling my baby a it! What kind of father does that?"

"For someone who has faced death a hundred times you sure do scare easy." Hawke said and he laughed loudly at the look of terror on Jack's face.

"It will be fine, Jack." he promised. The sound of a crying baby filled the air as Doc Mason walked out of the cabin. Jack ran to him and nearly trampled him to the floor before he managed to stop his running feet.

"Is Allie okay? Is the baby okay?" he asked quickly as he bounced up and down in his nervousness. Doc Mason laughed as he nodded and wiped his sweaty brow with his shirt sleeve.

"Your wife and son are just fine." Jack whooped loudly as he pulled off his hat and slapped it against his leg.

"Did you hear that, Hawke! I got a son!" he yelled happily. Hawke nodded and smiled.

"What are you waiting for? Get in there and break him. I am sure he will hate you."

"Hawke, leave the boy alone. No one likes a smart ass injun." Doc Mason scolded with a grin. Jack rolled his eyes at both of them and pushed past Doc Mason and into his cabin. He ran to the bedroom and there was his beautiful wife looking like a tired, pale angel and holding a tiny pink baby in her arms.

"Congratulations daddy." Lily said giving Jack a hug. "He is perfect." Lily gathered up the soiled sheets and towels and walked out of the room, closing the door behind her.

Jack walked to the bed and sat down beside his wife and son.

"How are you, doll?" Jack asked her. Allie smiled happily up at him and leaned her head against his chest.

"I am perfect now." she said. Without warning her mind flashed back to that day two years ago when the doctor had told her that her soul mate was going to die. She had thought her world was going to end and she had remained by his beside for the weeks that followed as he had balanced precariously between life and death.

After nearly three weeks he had opened his eyes for the first time and Allie had been right there and when she had seen that spark in his blue eyes as he had looked at her she had known he was going to be okay. It had taken nearly three months before he had been well enough to come home because of the damage to his lung and another few months passed before he could get around without getting short of breath.

It amazed her that now, two years after taking a bullet to save her life, he was sitting beside her with love in his eyes and his boyish smile lighting up his face as he looked down at their son lying in her arms.

"Do you want to hold him?" Allie asked. Jack nodded nervously and took the tiny boy into his arms. His sons blue eyes locked with his own and Jack knew without a doubt that he would give his life for this boy. He would make sure he always had everything he needed. He would work hard to mold him into a good man and he would never turn his back on him. He would be the kind of father that Hawke had taught him how to be.

"What are we going to name him?" he asked. Allie yawned and shrugged.

"What do you want to name him?" Jack thought for a moment and then looked over at her.

"I would never have come home to you if not for the old man that saved my life. Do you think we could name him Felix?" Allie smiled and nodded.

"That would be wonderful. I will be forever grateful to that man for sending my Jack back to me." she said in a sleepy voice. Jack smoothed her hair from her face and kissed her forehead.

"Get some sleep, doll. I'll take care of the tyke for a while." he said. Allie sighed with contentment and snuggled up to his chest as she closed her eyes. It didn't take long for her breathing to become deeper and he knew she had fallen asleep.

He looked down at his son who was still staring up at him with his bright blue eyes.

"Welcome to the world, Felix Owen. I'm your daddy."
