Dashi
You sat up with a silent yawn and glanced around taking in your surroundings. Everything appeared normal till your gaze landed on a passed out Dashi. You froze staring at him confusedly.
He sat at your computer desk his head rested against his arm and the screen still alight with his findings. Slowly, you got to a stand and silently made your way over. The screen displayed a close up video of the fire with the volume turned off. Most likely due to Dashi's attempts to not wake you.
The flickering flames reflected in your eyes as you stared at the screen sadly. Those flames had claimed your uncle's life and Dashi's memories for possibly the rest of his life.
Soon you reached forward to turn off the monitor when suddenly you caught sight of something you hadn't noticed before. A black blur leaving the building with a white part where one would guess the head was.
your mind darted back to the man in the mask. He asked what you had seen. Why? Why would someone who had saved the both of you care what you saw? Unless he had something to hide.
Perhaps he was a vigilante working with the cops. But in that case wouldnt he have told them about you and had taken both of you to a hospital? Dashi was injured and when you came to it was very apparent that the wound had not been treated probably not even examined.
your eyes drifted to Dashi and you slowly and very gently touched the bandage on his forehead. As though it had answers you simply didn't.
Soon you took a photo of the paused video on your phone, shut off the computer then checked the time. It was about 2:00 am. You frowned in confusion. Normally your uncle would stumble in here by now demanding you start on chores. You glanced at the garage door.
But no one entered. No sound came from the house. Slowly you walked to the door and pressed your ear against it. No sound still. Waking him could earn a beating. But forgetting your chores would end worse.
So you began. You walked into the house and began going through your chores. But then the realization quickly came that your father was not present. A relieved sigh blew past your lips. This would make research so much easier. He must have crashed at a friend's house last night. So you had the house to yourself.
You went back to your computer and, with some difficulty, moved Dashi to the cot and started researching again. Though this time it wasn't on victims it was on the vigilante whom of which turned out to be completely unknown. No vigilante was reported at all. Which could mean several things.
First, that he was an amateur and was trying his hand and the hero lifestyle. Second, he was an absolute idiot and had no clue what he was doing what so ever. Possibly the third thought, he was no hero.
You didn't like to judge people. And certainly not after only one meeting. But the term villain seemed to click. He seemed dangerous and somewhat uncaring of the fact that Dashi was hurt. And if you recalled correctly he had ONLY asked about your safety.
This was odd. Any hero would have checked you both. And wouldn't have come off near as creepy. But you both got away. Even with the fact that Dashi was unconcious. And you weren't strong enough to carry him quickly.
Yeah, something about this puzzle didn't fit. Under normal circumstances you never would have gotten far. If the masked man was indeed a hero. Its possible he didn't want to scare you more and figured it best to just let you leave.
But in that case common sense had to be present in knowing you were only 14 years old and probably couldn't care an injuried young adult all the way to the hospital or police station without major difficulty.
If he were a villain however, chances of him allowing you to escape were slim. You were no idiot, he let you escape. You had said you didn't see anything, though he didn't quite believe you. His tone had indicated that much.
Your fingers flew across the keyboard at an alarming rate as you searched for known villains. Hundreds of pages popped up along with news articles and blogs. All dedicated to villains San Fransokyo had encountered over the years.
A frustrated groan passed through your lips as you leaned back in your chair annoyedly. You had read through dozens of articles and found nothing. You were aware hours had passed but not sure how many. This is why you were so shocked when a sudden weight pressed down on the back of your chair. It caused you to jerk upright and toss your head back.
"Woah. Easy easy. Its just me." Dashi said holding his hands up in surrender. "Didn't mean to spook you. Just wondering if you found anything and-" Suddenly Dashi's eyes stared at your own. You felt an embarassed and ashamed blush rise on your features, then looked at the ground hoping he'd just let this one slide. Instead Dashi knelt next to the chair. His eyes narrowed in concentration as he gently lifted your chin.
"How long have you been up?" You didn't want a lecture. You were only trying to help.
"Since-" your voice came out quiet and it trembled. You winced at how pathetic you sounded. You were normally so confiedent or atleast you acted that way. Kept others from seeing the pain. Gave you a sense of pride. So you cleared your throat and repeated yourself in a stronger tone.
"Since about 2 am. My father gets me up that early anyway so its not really a big deal." You shrugged and Dashi grew an upset look.
"Yeah, well those bags under your eyes scream a different story. What do you have to do today?" You raised an eyebrow.
"I already finished my chores so nothing really."
"Good." Dashi stated determinedly. "Then you're getting some rest."
"Wait wha-Ah!" You yelped as Dashi gently pulled you from the chair pulling you over to your cot.
"You can't function without sleep it damages your brain cells and creates hightened anxiety." As Dashi wrapped you in a blanket you rolled your eyes.
"What are you? A doctor?" Dashi paused his eyes dropping. You instantly realized your mistake. "No! I-I meant-"
"Its ok." Dashi spoke simply. "I know you didn't mean it. You're too tired to think straight." You sighed defeatedly. You just insulted a man who had litterally lost everything. You couldn't deny him the one thing he was asking from you now.
So you relaxed your muscles and slowly drifted off to sleep.
