My little brother (Part One!)
Summary: The generations of brothers, told from the point of view of 8 very special people. Hagoromo Otsutsuki, Indra Otsutsuki, Madara Uchiha, Itachi Uchiha, Sasuke Uchiha, Hashirama Senju, Neji Hyūga and Boruto Uzumaki. (I know, shocker. Y'all thought you had a pattern until you didn't XD)
Age: ... I think Madara is 16 going on 17 and Itachi would be 12 or 13. Hashirama is 18 going on 19, Neji and Boruto are around 15. Sasuke is around 32 (Oldie XD). Indra, would be 10 or 11. Hagoromo is... idk, it's hard to tell with Otsutsukis. This is before he fought Kaguya, so I'd say around 16 based on how he looked at that time, and when I want this to happen.
Category: Big brother fluff! Bc all the big brothers in Naruto are so adorable. Even though some of them turn out to be assholes in the end.
Note: yeah, I was just feeling like it. I'm sorry. I'm a big sister, so this subject is also kinda something i relate to, and it might be why I'm really obsessed with certain characters. Like Itachi. Rest in peace, all of them minus Sasuke and Boruto, who are still alive. 😢
❤🕊❤
We'll start with Hagoromo, who is the oldest out of all of them
"Hamura!"
Hamura acknowledges his brother with a smile as Hagoromo runs to catch up with him. "Hagoromo-anii." He says, stopping in place. He puts a hand on his brother's shoulder. "Where have you been? Mother asked about you."
"I was... busy." Hagoromo blushes a little bit, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Hanging out with her again?" Hamura asks, a smirk engraved in his features. By her, obviously, he meant Haori, the girl he is positive his brother had a crush on. Hamura sees her around the village, and she has been nothing but good to the community, so she has his approval. Doubtlessly, Hagoromo has been shirking his responsibilities a little to spend time with her, as sixteen year olds in love tend to do.
"Quiet, Hamura." Hagoromo scolds the younger of the two for his shamelessness, laughing quietly. "No need to tease. Does she have something she wants to tell me?"
"I think it's just about you slacking on your duties. You know how she can be." Hamura says teasingly. Hagoromo shudders at the memory of what his mother had done to him the last time he slacked off. Their mother's version of punishment means a lot of harsh training, with no respect for their body's wishes to rest. Those are memories for another time, however. "Hagoromo-anii, we should probably make our rounds, mm?
"That would be best." Hagoromo agrees, taking the lead. His strides are quick and purposeful, causing Hamura to have to walk quickly to keep up. "Is Hahaue really mad at me?" He asks Hamura worriedly.
Hamura shakes his head. "Have you ever seen Hahaue mad? She's just been annoyed. I'd hate to see her get mad."
Mother is scary... Hagoromo thinks, nodding in agreement. This is true, they have never truly seen their mother in a rage. Even when they were mischievous young boys, running around and getting into trouble, though certainly less than most young children.
"Hagoromo-anii, I think she wanted to talk to you about what she told me." Hamura mutters. "She said that tomorrow was the anniversary of Chichiue's death. And she'll probably give you another reminder of how dangerous it is to go over the Peak." Their mother tends to worry, she exists constantly fretting over the Peak. The boys are obedient, because they never really can get away with anything with her, and she is very patient with them, but she does tend to rehash her orders multiple times. She seems determined to ingrain her words into their heads.
Hagoromo scoffs at the notion. "She never speaks of Father. Why would she start now?"
"You know Hahaue." Hamura shrugs, distracted briefly by a dog barking in the distance. "She's old and set in her ways, but has her moments of spontaneity."
"Shut up, Hamura, she can probably hear you!" Hagoromo shushes his little brother, walking forward again.
Hamura gasps dramatically at Hagoromo's paranoia, laughing. While it is true, their mother can read their minds and is borderline omniscient, she often has more to worry about than spying on her independent sons all day. She raised them to be reliable and self sustaining for a purpose, and the boys have done nothing but obey her thus far.
"Hagoromo-sama! Hamura-sama!" A woman walks up to the two of them. They recognize her as their mother's main assistant. "Kaguya-sama has told me to let you know that she is leaving town, something about sacrifices for the ritual?"
Ah, the ritual. This part of their life tends to take up their mother's mind the most, in truth. Since she established the tradition long ago, the Rabbit Goddess has been focused on never missing a single ritual.
Hagoromo nods formally, and Hamura bows his head in acknowledgement. "Thank you for letting us know." They chorus their well-practiced gratitude. The woman nods stiffly, and walks away. She always tends to be tense and uncomfortable around the same time as the ritual happens, for some reason, but Hagoromo and Hamura think nothing of it right now.
"Well, that answers that question." Hamura muses, nudging his brother.
Hagoromo nudges Hamura back. "Guess what that means?" He asks.
"What?" Hamura asks.
"We get to skip out on patrol, since Hahaue isn't here to remind us." The two of them exchanged glances. They use that excuse a lot. The 'oh Mother, since you weren't here, we forgot! What ever would we do without you!?' excuse is used often in their household. It works, sometimes, though Hagoromo suspects that Kaguya mostly lets them get away with it out of exasperated affection.
"So, Hagoromo-anii," Hamura asks, smirking deviously. "What do you want to do today?"
Hagoromo nods back, thinking. His face brightens as he looked at the statue of the Divine Tree in the middle of town. His eyes meet Hamura's in a devilish grin. "I have some ideas..."

Now, we fast forward to Otsutsuki Indra
"Onii-sannnnn," Ashura groans, knocking his head against the desk repeatedly. "Why to we have to read this stuff?? It's so boring."
"Ashura, if you continue to do that, you might get hurt." Indra scolds quietly, not looking up from the book he is reading. He soon finishes it, puts it down, and picks up another book from the second stack beside him.
Ashura looks down at his measly pile of two books compared to his brother's steadily growing pile, and groans louder, laying back on the floor. "Ne, ne, Nii-san? Why does Tou-sama have to WRITE so much? I mean, it's not like-"
Indra doesn't pay much attention to Ashura's complaining, as he is too busy reading and moving his hands quietly to form hand seals to notice. He whispered thoughts and parts of the passage he was reading about his father's famous Ninshu creed. If his theory is right, these hand signs might be the key to unlocking elemental facets of ninshu. Having access to the elements would be very useful to the followers of Ninshu, he thinks.
"Nii-san, wanna go play? The night time is the best time to play." Ashura insists, standing up. He meanders over to his big brother and pulls his hand out of the hand sign it was in, giving Indra a pleading look.
Indra looks from Ashura to the book he was reading, then sighed tiredly, snapping it shut. "Sure, otouto." He says, standing up again. He can feel his legs pop from staying in the same place at once, and winces slightly as a wave of numbness goes through his left leg. Perhaps they've been sitting here for longer than he had thought. He stumbles slightly, holding onto Ashura's back to steady himself. "My leg's asleep..." He mutters.
"See, nii-san?? This is what happens when you don't play with me~" Ashura says in a sassy, sing-song voice.
Indra laughs, face softening. His brother is very dear to him, but he suspects that he indulged Ashura's attitude a little too much. "Hai, hai, otouto, I get your point. Now, there are fireflies out there that are begging to be caught, right?"
"YOSHAAAA~" Ashura grins, charging out of the library, dragging his brother behind. Indra laughs contently, allowing Ashura to pull him outside.
The night sky is gorgeous. The stars are out, blinking just like the bugs that Ashura and Indra chase and clasp gently in their fists. They take turns showing the other brother their encaged specimens, before letting them go. The breeze gently brushes through the trees and tousles with Indra's long hair.
The two of them play outside happily for a long time that night, under the watchful eye of their father Hagoromo. He enjoys seeing his sons working and playing so well together. It often reminds him of himself and his own brother, Hamura. He looks up at the moon, and smiles. Hopefully, Hamura can visit soon and see his nephews again.
Ashura stops running for a second and looks up at the sky too. Indra skids to a stop next to him, poking his brother in the side. Ashura looks over at Indra, then curiously eyes the moon again. "Nii-san, what is the moon?"
Indra looks up now, too. He isn't quite sure what to say. He doesn't know if he wants Ashura to know the story of their grandmother just yet, so he says, "It's a star, Ashura. A beautiful, special star."
Ashura looks like he doesn't understand why Indra's tone is so severe, but nods anyway. Then a smile grows on his face. "You're it!" He exclaims, slapping his brother's shoulder as he went by. Indra chuckles at his little brother, but chases him again anyway.
❤🕊❤
Next is Madara Uchiha, the reincarnate of Indra.
"Madara-sama."
"Madara-sama."
Someone is shaking Madara awake. He frowns, opening his eyes to see Kenji looking down at him with a distressed look on his face.
"Madara-sama, I apologize for waking you this early, but... it is your father." Kenji bows his head in sadness. "He is on his death bed, and wishes to see you."
Madara is up instantly, putting his armor on over his clothes. "I thought father was on the front lines," he tells the man, who waited politely until he was ready to go.
"He was, he was just brought back here last night, sir." Kenji says, leading the way out of the room. "He was severely wounded in battle the night before, but at least he wounded the Senju leader."
"Batsuma." Madara growls at the name. "Is he dead yet?" He asks, his strides becoming quicker, Kenji having to speed up to stay with him.
"Hard to say, my lord. I believe he might also die tonight." Kenji said.
Madara scowls. "That means that idiot will be the leader of the Senju." Hashirama, of course, is the heir to the clan, making him the next leader. He is also the only person that was on par with, if not slightly better than, Madara. And although they are enemies; every time they confront each other before they fight, Hashirama tries to make up their lost friendship. Every time he does that, he fails, miserably, but he doesn't ever stop trying.
"Yes, my lord. That man." Kenji says. "But with you as the leader of the Uchiha clan, you have the backing of the clan for whenever you and the Senju clan heir go up against each other. If things get bad--"
"No. The whole point of us going against each other is because I'm the only one who can keep up with him. If the clan gets involved, there is no telling how many of them would be hurt or killed in the process. My fight is my fight." Madara shakes his head. "Plus," he smirks, "Hashirama couldn't kill me." They finally arrive at his father's door. He turns to Kenji and tells him to find Izuna, and before walking in.
Tajima Uchiha is at his death bed. There is some blood staining the sheets from an apparent strenuous surgery from a few hours ago. They clearly have been unable to move Tajima yet, which shows how bad his condition truly is. Tajima is laying there quietly, staring at Madara. Madara bows before his father, letting his head touch the floor. "Tou-sama." He murmurs, letting his eyes wander to his father's face.
"Madara." Tajima croaks, turning his face to cough a little bit. When he stops, he looks at his hand. Madara can see the glimmer of a red substance splayed over it.
"Tou-sama?!" Izuna bursts into the room, gasping when he saw his father laying in the bed. "Tou-sama! Are you okay? Since when have you been here?"
"Izuna," Madara hisses from his position on the floor. Izuna swallows any more words that he was planning on speaking, and gets to his knees on the floor beside Madara.
"Madara." Tajima continues as if Izuna hadn't just entered. Madara feels his temper flare a little bit, but dismisses it, as these are his father's last words. "You are the heir to the Uchiha clan, the eldest of 5 sons. You are my son, and I'm very proud of you. As the leader, it is my duty to--" he is interrupted by a particularly vicious bout of coughing that has Izuna frowning in concern. "--it is my duty to pass the Uchiha onto you. Lead them wisely, and make just decisions. Never turn your back on your enemy, for they can be anywhere at once. Look at things from every point of view, and make sure to be unbiased towards any person in order to make fair decisions." Tajima finishes his leaderly advice, and finally, his eyes wander to Izuna.
"Izuna and yourself are the survivors. Out of five, you two are the last. You are strong, both of you." Tajima states. "Always love your brother, because he is truly the only thing you have in this life. I'm not expecting to--" here he turns his head to avoid splattering blood all over the boys, "--see you boys in the afterlife any time soon, am I clear? This clan must have a leader. Take care of each other."
Madara bows lower, and he hears Izuna's teeth grinding together to avoid tears. Neither of them were particularly close to their father, but it still hurt to see him go. "Yes, tou-sama." They both reply after a few moments of silence.
Then, no one says anything else.
Izuna's head tilts upward.
Tajima is just... gone.
They both stand up and kept vigil for him all night, and he is buried the next morning. With the sunrise, Madara is declared to be the next leader.
"Onii-sama," Izuna turns to Madara after the funeral. "I will stand by your side always." He says, putting a hand on his brother's shoulder. It is a guarantee that there would be no betrayal from him, no side deals, no assassination attempts from Izuna. Izuna is content being the little brother, and he was okay with the fact that Madara's children would probably take over the clan after him. He would just... be there for Madara. This was extremely rare among heir siblings. There would often be fights and much blood would be shed, but Izuna is okay with just being Izuna. He would be the lighthouse in Madara's storm. And that is something Madara desperately needs.
Madara gives his little brother a soft look, placing his hand in Izuna's hair. "Thank you, otouto."

Now, we continue down the line. Going in order, Hashirama would be next, so here we are.
Hashirama is a bright boy. Well, he could be. Sometimes. If he tried really hard.
It isn't his fault, really, it was just that Tobirama is built for the paperwork and books. Hashirama is the 'get-out-and-do-something-about-it' type. So that's what he does. Often. If not the entire time.
"Hashirama-sama, thank you so much!" A grateful mother says as Hashirama reties the bow onto her daughter's head. He had accidentally knocked it off with his wood style when he was helping someone fix their house. He has felt bad about it, and had offered to fix it.
"Ani-ja, you're doing it wrong..." Tobirama deadpans. Madara shakes his head from further behind Tobirama, sighing in exasperation.
"I am not!" Hashirama pouts, making the little girl giggle at the lopsided bow in her face. She bows to him, before running back to her mother.
"You're a loser, big bro." Tobirama announces the moment Hashirama rejoins his best friend and younger brother.
Hashirama becomes immediately depressed. "Awww, Tobi hates me..." he murmurs, making Tobirama roll his eyes. Madara watches the two of them silently, deciding not to make a sarcastic comment like he normally does.
"Nah," Tobirama shakes his head. "I don't hate you, Ani-ja."
"But you never act like you love me!" Hashirama complains, sinking to the floor and hugging his legs. It is hilarious and a little pathetic to see the man people hailed as the God of Shinobi sitting on the floor pouting like a baby, but the bystanders have too much respect for the Senju clan leader to laugh. Besides, they would be easily shot down with glares by the man's two body guards, Tobirama and Madara, before they could bark out more than three laughs.
Madara and Tobirama exchange impatient glances. "Hashirama, let's go. We have meetings to go to that start in 20 minutes." Madara urges their leader.
Hashirama still sits there on the floor pouting, looking to be in no rush. "I'm not leaving until my otouto tells me he loves me." He declares, crossing his legs into a crisscrossed style seating, closing his brown eyes stubbornly.
"Hashirama, stand up." Tobirama sighs, rubbing his temples in irritation. "You're making a fool of yourself."
"I AM a fool, Tobi!" Hashirama declares. "And I will continue to be one for the rest of my life! It is my foolishness that inspired this village! All I want is for my otouto to tell me he loves me, and this is what I get." He looks at Madara, a sad pout still on his face.
Tobirama exhales one more time, rubbing his temples. There really isn't anything he could say to change Hashirama's mind. Either he said nothing, and Hashirama would have unnecessary complaints during the meetings, or he simply told his brother the truth, and it would be over with. Then maybe he would stop being a nuisance. "You're irritating, Ani-ja."
Hashirama seems to get more depressed after Tobirama says that.
"But I do love you very much. You're my brother, after all." Tobirama declares, putting a hand on Hashirama's shoulder. Before the older man could say anything, Hashirama is being hoisted onto his feet.
Tobirama does, in fact, love Hashirama very much. It is unrelenting, unconditional. A love that doesn't fail, even though Hashirama makes mistakes sometimes. Even though Hashirama is annoying. Even though Hashirama doesn't ever do as he was told. Hashirama knows all that, so he stands up, his frown changing to a smile almost instantly. Tobirama's eye twitches at his brother's bipolar behavior, and shudders in disgust at what he just said.
"See, Tobi?" He asks with a happy smile on his face. "Was that so hard?? I didn't make you kiss me on the cheek or anything sappy like that. I just asked for reassurance."
"Ani-ja..." Tobirama groans, walking up ahead of the two of them at the reminder of what Hashirama used to do to his siblings. Tobirama used to hate it and called it sappy, and not masculine, but Hashirama insisted. He said it made him feel loved. He'd stopped insisting upon it once they grew up, obviously, to Tobirama's eternal joy. His ego had died little by little when Hashirama made him do that.
That leaves Hashirama and Madara walking behind Tobirama as he stomps off, embarrassed.
"Do you miss Izuna?" Hashirama asks, his voice uncharacteristically serious. He turns his head to look at Madara while they walk.
"More than you'll ever know." Madara replies honestly, keeping his eyes ahead and at their bustling village.
Hashirama stops in the middle of the road, putting a hand on Madara's shoulder to stop him as well. The two of them look at each other solemnly. Hashirama points at the sky with his free hand. "He's in the stars, Madara. He's at peace."
The two of them are silent for a moment, remembering Izuna. Madara nods eventually, sighing. "Thank you for that, Hashirama."
The two of them continue to walk. Madara eventually tires of fighting back the devilish smile. "You used to make Tobirama kiss you on the cheek?"
"Oooh that was funny! His face was priceless."
"Hashirama, I'd pay money to see that. Sounds hilarious."
"I bet I could make him do it again," Hashirama grins, the usual annoying kind of determination on his face. "Tobirama!"
"Oh my god."
🕊❤🕊
Now it's Sasuke Uchiha's turn. He doesn't have a blood related younger brother, but he does have a brother.
Sasuke had not been expecting this. He has gained wisdom and strength in his aging, and has evolved to be prepared for almost anything. However, the death of Hinata Uzumaki threw even him off.
The moment was heart wrenching. The moment Hinata didn't wake up when she was supposed to.
By sheer, tragic coincidence, Sakura and Sasuke had come over to visit their Uzumaki friend, as she hadn't been feeling well as of late. Naruto had opened the door for them with a smile. The kids were at a friend's house, and Naruto was home taking care of his wife. "She's inside napping." Naruto nodded towards their bedroom. "She went to sleep a couple hours ago."
Sakura, being as close to Hinata as she was, went to go wake her up, while Naruto and Sasuke took seats on the couch to talk.
Suddenly they heard a horrified scream coming from Sakura. Then desperate cries. Then there was a thump, and anguished sobs. Sasuke and Naruto ran in the room. Sakura was on the floor, shaking and screaming for them to look at Hinata, but it was too late. Next, Naruto was the one to yell.
Hinata had apparently been visiting Tsunade, but she never told her friends and Naruto quite how bad it got, how her headaches and sickness plagued her. She died the same way her mother did— stressed out and tired, but still loving and amazing. A stroke was what took her, in the end.
The funeral was the saddest thing Sasuke had ever been to. Sakura held onto him and Naruto tightly, not able to stop the tears. Naruto was numb. He didn't talk. Sakura mourns late into the night, praying constantly for peace for their old friend. Sakura hugs Himawari as much as possible, trying to help the girl as much as possible, but here isn't much that she can do to help her. Boruto has been slowly getting back to a new kind of normal, with Sarada and his friends helping him.
Sasuke doesn't really know how to help. He has never been good at comforting anyone, and the worst part is that he doesn't know how he can help Naruto. He'd never lost a wife before, but he had lost his mother, so whenever he could, he sat down with Boruto.
Naruto had stopped talking. He had stopped eating. Shikamaru couldn't remember the last time he'd seen Naruto in the office, and took care of things for him. Boruto and Himawari... they were devastated, and with their dad being somewhat out of it, they came to stay with Sakura and Sasuke.
As much as Sasuke loves the kids, they need their father. Naruto needs to come back to them and try to help his children move forward.
Yet for some reason, he had left the village for a couple of days. No one could find him, except Sasuke. Sasuke waited for a few days to give Naruto space to take his anger out on his environment.
When he did find him, Naruto was sitting with his legs dangling over the side of a cliff. He was staring out at the sun setting behind the mountains in complete silence.
"You look like shit." Sasuke says, sitting down next to him.
Naruto doesn't reply. There are bags under his eyes from the lack of sleep. The blue orbs didn't sparkle anymore, and the whites of his eyes are bloodshot from the strain of being awake for days at a time. He truly does look like shit.
"Are you okay?"
Still no reply. Naruto doesn't even look at him. For the first time, probably ever, he doesn't even acknowledge Sasuke's existence.
"Naruto." Sasuke sighs. "You can't just keep doing this."
"My fucking wife is dead, Sasuke." Naruto growls, spinning his head to look at his best friend. "You don't get to tell me what I can't do."
Sasuke's jaw tightens at the raw anguish in Naruto's voice, so he refrains from retaliating. The two of them sink back into an intense silence, with Naruto clearly going back to pretending he is alone.
"Naruto..." Sasuke finally works up the nerve to speak again.
"I don't want to hear it, Sasuke. You should just go away."
"Talk to me, Naruto." Sasuke requests, pulling his knees up to prop himself up. He's not the greatest advice-giver, but he's definitely become a good listener, in the past ten years.
Naruto looks at him again, and this time Sasuke sees it— the pain in his eyes finally overtakes the nothingness. "There's nothing to talk about."
"You're lying, and if you don't start telling me the truth, I'll drag you out of the village and kick your ass." Sasuke threatens, and then wonders if that is the better idea anyway. The two of them have always communicated better using fists than words. They have gotten better even now by fighting each other. Of course, they had to be at least three days away from the village in order to go all out, and Yamato would have to be dispatched after them to fix whatever damage they cause to the environment, but the effect is the same.
However, Naruto is different than Sasuke. If it was Sasuke in his place, fighting would be the easiest way to figure it out. But unlike Sasuke, words always came easy to Naruto.
"Talk to me, Naruto." Sasuke repeated himself. "I'll listen. You know that."
"I know." Naruto sighs. They are silent for a good twenty minutes after the sun went down. The stars come out, and the two of them lay back onto the grass and stare at them.
"You know, my brother tried to commit suicide here." Sasuke says to start up conversation. It's shocking enough that Naruto has to reply.
"Really? Itachi?" Naruto's brows furrow in confusion. Naruto is one of the only people alive today who knew Itachi relatively well, and he had never heard of that happening. However, even in his curiosity, he doesn't look at Sasuke. "When?"
"Before we were born."
Naruto gasps at that, shooting straight up. "He was four?"
"Four and a half. Almost five. We were born a few months after his birthday."
"Why?" Naruto asks, laying back down beside Sasuke, but continuing to examine the stars. Now that the original shock was worn off, he is back to his apathy.
"He didn't want to live anymore."
"He deserved better." Naruto exhales, the familiar rage at the unfairness of it all bubbling up in reminder of the older Uchiha brother. Now he has his wife to add to the list of unfair deaths.
They sit in silence again.
"Sasuke?"
"Mm?"
"You think Hinata and Itachi are up there?" He points at the stars.
"Yes." Sasuke nods. He fixes his eyes on one star in particular. "She's with Neji now, Naruto. Neji will keep her safe until you go up there yourself. And I'm sure your parents and Itachi can watch over her as well, but I don't think they need to. She's in good hands with Neji."
Naruto nods at that. Sasuke doesn't miss Naruto's gulp, his eyes attaching to the blonde's face. This is his familiar gross Naruto trying-not-to-cry face.
"I never got to say goodbye, you know." Naruto chokes out with a wobbly voice.
"Yeah."
"I kissed her and told her to get some sleep. I didn't get to tell her goodbye. I didn't get to tell her I love her." Naruto's voice cracked. Sasuke could see one tear coming from his blue eyes. "Sasuke, why didn't I tell her I loved her? Why didn't I tell her I loved her every day? Every hour?" Naruto asked, sounding more broken than Sasuke had ever heard him sound.
"She knew, Naruto."
"I still should've told her. I love her so much, Sasuke. It's been three weeks, ya know. Three weeks without her hugs, her smiles. It's longer than I've ever had to go without her." Naruto gulps back a hiccup as a fresh wave of tears slips down his face.
"I understand that feeling." Sasuke nods. "It's like that every time I have to leave the village. Leaving Sakura and Sarada behind is agonizing."
"At least you know you'll get to see them again." Naruto sniffles. "I'm never going to see her again until I die. Sasuke, how am I going to go that long?"
"You'll have to be strong, Naruto." Sasuke says, putting a hand on his friend's shoulder. "It's what she'd want you to do."
They sit in silence for a while again. Naruto sniffles a few more times in that silence, but Sasuke doesn't say anything about it. He is just here for his friend.
"How are the kids?" Naruto finally voices what he'd been silently asking ever since Sasuke first showed up.
"Boruto is taking it hard, Naruto. Himawari is too. She can't look into a mirror without bursting into tears. She even reminds herself of her mama." Sasuke reports. He gives a brief recap of Boruto's off attitude and how no one can really quell his understandable rage and depression. Sasuke tries as much as he can, but he knows that Boruto is ultimately going to have to get better alone. The process is hard, but it isn't something Sasuke can help him with.
"I need to get back to them." Naruto murmurs, looking out at the sky again.
"They need you, Naruto." Sasuke says, glancing at his friend again. "As much as Sakura and Hanabi are a comfort, they don't make up for you."
"I know. I'll go see them soon." Naruto thinks aloud. "I think... I need to stay out here a little longer, think about stuff. Get ready to move forward with my life."
"This process of mourning will take a long time, Naruto." Sasuke warns. "In the meantime, I think you and your kids should rest and recuperate in peace. Together. That might mean taking a few months or years off from being Hokage. Shikamaru and I can handle things. And we'll all be there to help you out whenever you need it. Okay? You need to get better." Sasuke stands up, getting ready to leave Naruto alone to make peace with the idea that Hinata isn't going to be here anymore.
"Sasuke," Naruto stops him with a hand on his shoulder before he can teleport home. "Thank you."
"Any time, otouto." Sasuke disappears, a sarcastic smile on his face. Naruto feels a grin stretch on his face for the first time in a very long time. Then his wince comes back and he begins to sob quietly. Even feeling happy feels wrong without Hinata here to share in it.
Naruto's life has been pulled apart at the seams. It would be so, so much harder to get through the day without the promise of Hinata being there when he got home. It would be so hard without the strong woman by his side. He'd have to make do without her soft voice saying 'welcome home, Naruto-kun' when he opened the door.
He needs to focus on the fact that he would still hear 'welcome home, daddy!' from Himawari, and he'd get a fist bump from Boruto. That's still more than he'd ever had when he was a kid. But still, no one would ever fill up the hole Hinata had left in his heart.
"Hinata, thank you for giving me everything!" He says to her, unable to control his tears anymore. "I will miss you forever, but I'll have to ask that you wait just a little bit longer for me. The rest of us will join you up there when we're sure the kids down here have got it handled."
He looks up into the sky some more.
"I love you, Hinata." He tells her. "More than anyone I've ever known. You are my sun, moon and stars, and I will be counting the days until I can join you."
He can feel her reply in the wind that tickles his face, and he can smell her perfume in the air for a few seconds.
Naruto smiles into the wind, and blows Hinata one last kiss. Then, without another word, he walks away from the cliff and down to Sasuke's house, where his kids are be waiting patiently for his return.
He hugs them both harder than he ever had, squeezing them and crying. "I love you two more than anything in this world." Naruto murmurs to them. "I'm sorry I was gone. I'll never leave you again."
Sasuke sneaks into bed beside Sakura, after removing his cloak and sword, leaning the sword on the wall and hanging the cloak on the back of a chair.
Sakura shifts when she felt him next to her, and opens her eyes. "Mmm... Sasuke-kun?"
Sasuke looks at his wife and once again marveled at how beautiful she was. He honestly doesn't know what he would've done if he was Naruto at this moment. He doesn't know if he could live without Sakura by his side. Obviously, he'd still take care of Sarada, but it certainly wouldn't be the same. "I love you, Sakura."
I hope you guys enjoyed. I added new people you wouldn't normally see in stuff like this. Mission accomplished.
Anyway, good night guys, I love you all so much. This is for you guys. I haven't done one where someone dies yet, and I felt so freaking bad about killing Hinata.
Byeeeee
