Cherry Blossom Festival
Summary: Before Sakura was born, there was a festival that happened annually on her birthday. When she was born on that day, and her hair was pink, her parents named her after that day. These are Sakura's memories with this festival.
Age: changes.

Mebuki and Kizashi Haruno were ecstatic when their daughter Sakura was born. She was beautiful, her pink hair was adorable. They loved her instantly.
Six years after her birth, her parents took her to her very first Festival, on her birthday. The little girl had been so excited in the weeks before, she was bouncing around. My best friend Ino will be there! She told her parents. I just HAVE to go this year!!!
The girl's parents simply smiled. "We'll see, honey," Mebuki said.
"I guess we'll have to wait until the festival, huh?" Kizashi shrugged, smiling.
When the day finally rolled around, Mebuki presented Sakura with a small, pink kimono with cherry blossoms on it. Kizashi made her breakfast in bed, because he knew his wife couldn't cook.
Sakura loved the kimono, and was so excited to wear it to the festival. They got to the Hokage Tower just before the festival started. Sakura found her friends Ino and TenTen easily. They both complimented her kimono and wished her a happy birthday.
The festival was magical, like Sakura predicted. She and her friends danced and played with the other kids, having so much fun. She fell asleep in her parents' arms that night before the fireworks, and only remembered the popping, and the oohing and aahing she heard before passing out.
The year after that, and the year after that were mostly the same, until she and Ino slowly drifted apart. On her 9th birthday, she didn't go, because she had been sick, which drove her crazy.
Age 13:
Sakura loved her birthday, and the festival that came with it. This year would be special, too, because now she had a genin team to watch the fireworks with. She'd take the three of them to her favorite spot on the Hokage Mountain, the Yondaime's hair. She could see the clearest view of the fireworks from there.
She'd found that spot a few years ago when she and Ino had been playing hide and seek one night.
She still missed her friend, but decided that it was better that way. Sakura's kimono was red that year, with white roses on it. She loved that kimono as well.
She'd learned to save all her kimonos, and now had a collection of them, dating back to when she was six, the first time she'd been old enough go to the festival.
When she separated from her parents, she took her money and ran off, hoping to find Sasuke-kun or Naruto.
She bumped into a certain blonde while turning a corner, and apologized quickly. She looked up, noticing it was Ino, and frowned. "Gomenasai..." She muttered.
Ino let a ghost of a smile onto her face. Sakura smiled back instinctively. Then Ino's team, (made up of Asuma-sensei, Shikamaru and Choji) called for her. She waved slightly at Sakura, then ran off.
Huh. That was weird. Sakura thought.
She shook her head, then started running again. She noticed Naruto by Ichiraku's ramen stand. He was ordering ramen. She dragged him off by the ear, and he protested violently. "Listen, do you want to play games or not???" She asked him. "You can't have both ramen and fun."
He finally stopped arguing, because going anywhere with Sakura-chan was cool.
They stopped at Kakashi's place, and hauled him from his book as well. He also protested.
Then, finally, they found Sasuke. He was staring at the dango stand, a sadness entering his eyes. Then it was gone, and only hatred was left. He turned around and started walking away, but ran into a certain pinkette.
"Sasuke-kun!" She shouted excitedly. "Want to come play the games with us?"
"Tch. Games are for losers." Sasuke spat.
"Then I suppose you'll feel right at home with them, 'ttebayo!" Naruto shot back.
"Hn. Dobe."
"Don't call me that, you bastard!"
"You two, quit it. It's my birthday, and I want to play games. So either you come, or you don't." Sakura finally shouted, shocking the two boys. Kakashi nodded. It was about time for her to find her head when it came to Sasuke.
Of course, the team had given her her presents earlier. Naruto gave her a rose, and a coupon for Ichiraku's. Kakashi had given her a journal, and a book on medicinal herbs, that she was thoroughly enjoying. Sasuke had given her something, and she loved it. It was a necklace that had the Haruno symbol on it.
She took them around, and even Sasuke grew to enjoy the games they played. He and Kakashi had the most intense games that involved hitting things, and Sakura ended up with more stuffed animals than she needed because of their constant need for rematches. Naruto had cheered for Kakashi, and Sakura had cheered for both. Mostly Sasuke though.
When the night was almost over, she brought the boys over to her special spot. It was 11:57, and the fireworks would start at 12:00 exactly.
Sakura and her team decided that the rocks of Yondaime-sama were too hard, and moved to the grass above it. They'd found a nice tree to lay under.
When the fireworks started, Sakura was mesmerized by the colors, just like the was every year. The bursts of greens, pinks, and whites drew her attention away from everything, even Sasuke, who (though he would never admit it) was staring at Sakura throughout most of them.
Age: 15
Sakura looked out her window.
She was 15 years old today, and both her boys were gone. It was just Kakashi, left. Not that she didn't love Kakashi, she did, but she missed Sasuke and Naruto.
She had been invited by Teams 8, 10 and Team 9 to go to the festival that year, but her heart just wasn't into it. Even Kakashi volunteered to take some time off work to go with her, but it wasn't the same.
Her parents had even bought her a beautiful, deep purple kimono this year. She didn't want to. She told her parents that over and over, and she told them to go have fun, and have some alone time. They'd been gone for an hour or so.
Finally, Sakura slipped on the kimono. It fit her perfectly, and perfectly accented the green in her eyes. But her eyes were dull, and there was barely any life in them.
She slipped out of the house, heading up to the tree the whole team had gathered at a few years ago.
She lay under the tree. The stars were beautiful that night. She wondered if Naruto and Sasuke were under the same stars and thinking of her.
"Sasuke... Naruto... wherever you are... I miss you."
Naruto:
Poor Pervy Sage was so drunk he couldn't stand. Naruto rolled his eyes, and did the clone jutsu. It took three clones to heave the drunk man back to their hotel.
Naruto lay down on his bed, and stared at the beautiful sky. The stars were twinkling at him, and he thought he could hear the fireworks that would be going on in Konoha right about now.
Sakura is alone this year... He realized, eyes darkening in guilt. Well, Kakashi-sensei and the others are there. I do miss her, Kakashi and Sasuke.
He sighed deeply.
"W-*hicc*hat's on your mind, kid?" Jiraiya asked, turning his head to the boy. He'd noticed Naruto had been especially down today, and it worried him.
"It's nothing, Pervy Sage. Go back to sleep." Naruto told him in a dismissive tone. He hadn't meant to be rude, but.... Pervy Sage wasn't the best at understanding things.
"Okay." Jiriaya shrugged. He turned back around and passed out.
Naruto looked up again, and the stars were still there, twinkling. "I miss you all. Even you, Sasuke..." he muttered. "Good night, guys."
His eyes fluttered shut.
Sasuke:
"Tch." Sasuke said out loud, shooing away his annoying thoughts.
He had been thinking about that one time, with his old team. It had been Sakura's birthday if he remembered right. The sky had been so beautiful, and the girl sitting under it, brilliant emerald eyes wide with awe had been more than beautiful. He shook his head.
It's Sakura's birthday again... he had thought. I hope she's happy.
Then he snapped out of it, chasing away the old memory and feelings. "I don't have time to be soft. I have to kill all feelings, and become emotionless." He reminded himself. His frown disappeared, and his normal face was back on. His emotions were dead again.
He folded his arms behind his head and stared up at the ceiling. Then his eyes wandered to his window again.
He allowed himself just one more thought.
Happy birthday, Sakura.
Then he shut down that part of his brain and returned to thinking about his horrible big brother, and what he would do to him when Sasuke found him.
Age: 17
It was the year after the war. The village wanted to celebrate, so they threw the biggest festival that has ever been done in the history of the festival. Sakura loved every minute of it.
This one was special, too. Because this was the one where both of her boys were back. And Kakashi was Hokage. And all of them were alive.
And now, Sakura had two more people to celebrate with. Yamato-taicho, and Sai. She'd have to take them to Team 7's special spot too. She smiled widely at herself in the mirror. "Everything is perfect now."
Her hair was down this time, and she was wearing a white kimono. Her with kimono had violets on them this year.
She wore the necklace Sasuke had given her a few years ago. She touched it and smiled. Now Sasuke had left the dark place he had been in. Her smile widened. She would see him and her friends very soon.
Sakura sighed happily and left her room.
Well, mostly happily. When she walked down the stairs, she felt her heart beat, and pain flashed into her mind.
Her parents had died during the war, leaving Sakura alone. This was the first year that Sakura was going without them.
She looked up at the ceiling. "I'll go for you guys... I miss you two." She told her mother and father.
She left her house.
She found Naruto where she always found him, by the ramen stand. She took his hand and pulled him over to Sasuke and Kakashi.
She smiled at the three of them, and they all smiled back, then went for Yamato and Sai.
They had all given Sakura her gifts earlier that day. Sai had handed her a beautiful sketchbook, and Yamato had given her a wooden carving of a cherry blossom tree. Kakashi's gift was a book-- a diary, Mito Uzumaki's diary, to be specific. Sakura loved it. Naruto gave her special edition ramen from Ichiraku's.
Sakura hadn't seen Sasuke all day, but now that he was here, she wasn't concerned about the fact that she hasn't received a present from him earlier.
Sakura loved it all. She was so excited to see the fireworks with them.
"Come ON, guys! We're going to be late for the fireworks, 'ttebayo!!" Naruto tugged on Sakura's hand. Sakura was yanked along, and pulled Sai's hand. Sai grabbed Sasuke's sleeve as he passed, because he missed his hand. Sasuke yelped a little as Naruto dragged all four of them away, and he was knocked off kilter, so he couldn't grab onto the next person.
Kakashi chuckled, nodding to Yamato, and the two followed them. Naruto was dragging everyone to the Mountain.
They scaled it, and made it to the tree just in time. They reached the tree to find a bunch of people under it.
"I hope you all don't mind, but I invited some friends." Kakashi said, grinning.
Teams 10, 8 and 9 waved at them enthusiastically. Kurenai and Gai sat behind them, and Kakashi and Yamato joined them. Sakura sat by TenTen, Hinata and Ino, while the boys separated themselves too.
The fireworks started, and they were just as enchanting as they were every year.
In the middle of the fireworks, someone tapped her shoulder. She turned to face them, and smiled when she saw it was Sasuke.
Her smile widened with her eyes when she saw what he was holding.
Sasuke lifted her hair and removed the Haruno necklace, replacing it with his Uchiha necklace.
Sakura tackled him in a hug. "Thank you SO much!" She shouted over the popping and the shouting of her friends.
Sasuke smiled at her. A genuine one. "That's just a promise. One day soon, you'll really be mine. Okay?"
Sakura nodded happily. "Hai."
They both turned back to the fireworks, but Sakura was visibly glowing.
Age: 20
Sasuke exhaled. "Time to go. I have to make it there before Sakura."
"You can do this, Teme! I believe in you, dattebayo!" Naruto slapped him on the back. Sasuke flashed him a look of gratefulness.
"Okay. I'll tell Ino to go get her." He stood up and left.
Meanwhile:
"Ino, I don't understand why you need to pick out my clothes. Isn't a normal kimono good enough?" Sakura prostested as Ino threw a pink outfit at her.
"No, darling, today you need something different." Ino told her, digging through Sakura's closet. "OH, this is pretty." She held up a beautiful, deep green dress. "You're wearing this."
"Ino, I decide what I want to wear." Sakura sniffed. She held up the pink and green kimono she had been planning to wear. "And I'm wearing this."
"Fine, but you at least need to wear these shoes." Ino held up pink heels.
"Um, no. I'm going up to the Mountain, and no way am I doing that in heels." Sakura told her.
"But Sakur--"
"No 'buts' Ino, I'm wearing flip flops and you can't stop me." Sakura shot her a deadly glare.
"Fine. But you wear this necklace." She held up Sakura's Uchiha necklace.
"I was planning on wearing that anyway, Ino." Sakura rolled her eyes.
"Well now you're definitely wearing it."
"Mmm hmm." Sakura smiled a little at her friend. "Now, do you want to do my hair and I'll do yours?"
"GIRL YOU DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO ASK!"
Timeskip: at the festival
Sakura smiled as Ino hugged Sai tightly. She shipped them so hard and was delighted when she heard they were getting married. She couldn't help but wonder when Sasuke would ask, because she had waited for a few years now.
Sasuke will ask when he's ready, Sakura, you know how he is! Be patient!
Now Ino and the rest of Sakura's friends were dragging her everywhere. Eventually the clock finally struck 11:48, and her friends shooed her to the tree. Sakura was confused when her friends said they would join her later, but followed her orders and waited at the tree.
Sakura sat on the grass staring at the stars. She couldn't remember a time where she was happier.
The fireworks started at 12:00 exactly, and Sakura enjoyed them while she was alone.
Then a pair of hands covered her eyes.
"Who is this?" A smile grew on Sakura's face.
"Happy birthday," a male voice whispered in her ear.
"Sasuke!" Sakura laughed, turning around. "Thank you!"
"Sorry I didn't have time to get you a present this year, I was too busy planning this." Sasuke slid in beside her. He had a deep blue yukata with an Uchiha symbol stitched on it. He looked amazing, as always.
"Planning what?" Sakura asked, confused.
Sasuke put a finger to his mouth, and pointed at the fireworks.
Sakura frowned and looked up too.
A big firework shot up and when it exploded, letters floated in the sky.
Sakura, will you marry me?
Sakura gasped. Her eyes flooded with tears. She looked at Sasuke. He was looking at her intently.
Tears ran down her cheeks.
"Sakura, why are you crying?" He wiped them off. "Don't cry, just answer my question," he told her, cradling her head to his chest.
Sakura nodded against his chest. "Yes!" She finally said. She sat up off of him and tackled the Uchiha in a hug. "Yes, Sasuke Uchiha, I will definitely marry you!"
Sasuke's smile was brighter than the stars in the background. "Sakura... thank you. I... I love you."
Sakura stopped hugging him. She looked at Sasuke. She'd never heard him tell her he loved her before. She started crying more. "I love you too, Sasuke!"
He brought her head closer, and their lips met for a kiss.
Age: 25:
Sakura had been having a terrible day. She had been late to help Ino with the flower shop, forgot she had food on the stove, and had woken up with the worst bad hair day she'd had in a long time.
Even worse, today was Sarada's first Cherry Blossom Festival. Sarada's birthday was a few days before Sakura's, so they often celebrated it together. Sarada had been begging to go to the festival, and now Sakura and Sasuke had promised to take her.
And Sakura hadn't been ready. She'd had Sarada's little red kimono all ready. It had beautiful black crows on it, in honor of her uncle Itachi. But her outfit wasn't ready at all.
She went into her room and frowned. How am I supposed to go when I don't have a kimono?
She walked into her room and scanned her closet for something to wear.
Then she saw a deep green kimono with a plastic covering on it. It was stunning, and Sakura knew exactly where it came from.
Sakura,
I noticed you had been so busy looking for a kimono for Sarada, you completely forgot about yourself. I hope you like this. I saw it and it reminded me of you.
-- Sasuke
Sakura shook her head. "He's just the best."
"Mama?" Sarada came in, wearing her kimono. "Are you ready to go?"
"Yes hon, I'll be just a minute. Let me change really quick." Sakura said, smiling at the little girl.
She changed and noticed it was perfect. She shook her head again, laughing.
She looked on her dresser, and picked up the necklace Sasuke had given her awhile ago. She put it on, and left her room.
Then she took Sarada's hand and left the house.
Sakura and Sarada enjoyed themselves greatly, and when Sasuke and the Nanadaime and his family met up with them, it only got better.
Boruto seemed a little put off by now pretty Sarada looked, but the two of them ran off to play anyway.
Sasuke, Sakura, Naruto and Hinata walked to their normal spot.
The fireworks started and everyone else joined them.
Sakura leaned on Sasuke's shoulder and sighed, thinking about her memories with this festival. "I'm so happy."
Sasuke squeezed her shoulder. "Good."
