Sasuke knocked on Naruto's door, and waited for his lazy friend to open the door.

Naruto groaned, standing up. Slipping on his shoes, he got out of bed and opened the door. "Who is it, 'ttebayo?" He asked wearily.

Sasuke's eyes widened at Naruto's tone. It seems his suspicions were correct. "Naruto, open up. It's Sasuke. I want to talk."

Ramblers in the wilderness
We can't find what we need
We get a little restless from the searching
Get a little worn down in between.

Naruto sighed and opened the door. "Is something wrong? Are you okay? Are the villagers treating you well?"

"Stop worrying about me for three seconds and worry about yourself for once?" Sasuke asked, sliding past Naruto and onto the couch. There were a few empty cups of microwaveable ramen sitting on the coffee table, a long with empty coffee mugs.

Naruto sat in the recliner across from his best friend. He really had no idea why Sasuke was here, or why he wanted to talk. He didn't care, he was happy his friend was there. "Why am I in trouble now?" He joked, sending Sasuke a fake smile.

Sasuke frowned at Naruto. "Stop. Tell me what is really going on with you." Hinata, Sakura, and every one of Naruto's friends could see that Naruto wasn't okay, and they hated it. Naruto was the cheerful one, the one that made everything okay. But he wasn't, for some reason, and Sasuke was tired of not knowing why.

"Nothing!" Naruto replied cheerfully. Or, as cheerfully as he could muster.

Sasuke leveled a glare at Naruto, and the blonde could tell that his façade wasn't working on his best friend.

"You know you can tell me anything, right?" Sasuke asked, concern etching it's way into Sasuke's voice.

Naruto frowned. He didn't want Sasuke to be worried for him. He didn't want anyone to be worried for him. He was the one that was supposed to worry for everyone. "I'm okay, really! Don't worry for me so much, Teme."

Sasuke sighed and closed his eyes. "Naruto, I know you're not okay. I don't know why, and I want you to talk to me."

Naruto's mouth opened and closed like a fish. Then he cursed. He clearly wasn't hiding it enough.

"I'm really okay, Sasuke. I don't know what you want me to say." Naruto said finally, voice going flat.

"Stop. You're lying to me. Best friends don't lie to each other." Sasuke replied angrily. Naruto raised an eyebrow, end Sasuke softened his voice. "Listen, Naruto. You were the one who brought me home. I owe you everything. You're the reason I'm not alone anymore. Let me help you-- let me be the one to bring you home this time."

Naruto's mouth dropped and his eyes widened.

Face down in the desert now

"I don't know..." Naruto looked down, realizing that arguing was fruitless. "Its just... Neji's death... Pervy Sage... Obito's sacrifice... it's all catching up to me now, and it kind of hurts." He confessed. "All those deaths... they could've been avoided if I was faster... better..."

Sasuke's face softened, and he realized that Naruto was silently suffering. His heart wrenched, and he had to close his eyes. It hurt to see Naruto, his best friend, suffering like that.

He knew that without Naruto, he would be lonely, sad, and depressing... he would be nothing without Naruto. Their childhood rivalry had been forgotten-- now they were brothers.

It was Naruto's persistence and determination that brought Sasuke back to Konoha, how Naruto wouldn't give up on the bonds he and Sasuke had.

It had been Naruto's love that finally convinced him.

Now it was Sasuke's turn to comfort Naruto.

"I'm sorry, I probably sound stupid. Your whole clan was killed-- and your brother is dead... I'm probably making you sad. Forget I said anything, dattebayo." Naruto quickly added, eyes dropping to his lap.

"Naruto." Sasuke said, standing up. Naruto was a few months younger than him. He had a vague memory of a red haired woman telling him that her son was going to be his age, and that she hoped they would be good friends.

He knew that it had been Kushina Uzumaki... and he also knew that he had been charged with Naruto's friendship. Naruto was like his younger brother, and Sasuke was determined to take care of him.

"Come here." He said. Naruto obeyed, a questioning look in his gaze. Sasuke randomly wrapped his arms around Naruto and said, "It's okay. You can cry... I'll carry your sadness on my shoulders."

Naruto's eyes widened at first, then he sank into Sasuke's hug. Tears slowly came to his eyes, and they slowly began to slide down his cheeks.

Sasuke shut his eyes and let Naruto cry into his shoulder. He wouldn't do this to anyone but him and Sakura-- and he had a special bond with her.

"It's going to be okay." Sasuke whispered. "It's okay."

Naruto's shaking shoulders began shaking more.

Naruto bit his lip to keep the tears from falling.

"Naruto." Sasuke said, looking at the mop of blonde hair that was leaning on him. "I want you to know that I will always be here for you, and I will always be here for you to talk to. So I want you to talk to me. Whatever it is, you and I, and Sakura, we'll get through it together."

Naruto's tears finally stopped coming, and he lifted his hand and wiped his eyes. "I'm sorry."

"For what?" Sasuke asked, letting go of Naruto.

Cerulean eyes met onyx ones. "For not telling you why I was depressed."

Sasuke shook his head. "I don't care about that. All I want to do is help you get better. It's not natural for the Dobe to be the depressed one." He smirked at his best friend.

A small smile entered Naruto's face.

"Thanks, Teme." Naruto exhaled, sitting down again. "For being there for me. And letting me cry into your shoulder. Wait till I tell Sakura-chan. She's gonna be so jealous." Naruto said, a first genuine smile on his face.

Sasuke nodded. "That sounds like the Dobe I know. Now-- talk to me."
