Moonlight
This moment is perfect.
"Smile," I whisper meekly,
voice shaking heavily,
heart beating rapidly,
breath going in and out
as I watch your lips form a pout.
"The moonlight will wash me away,"
you say, hands beginning to sway.
You're nervous.
"No, you look good," I blush,
my cheeks beginning to flush.
I need to capture this moment.
I position my camera and snap.
Then your hands leave your lap.
You release a sigh
and it sounded wry.
The Polaroid prints out.
Under the moonlight—
breathtaking was your mere sight.
I smile in delight.
"Sarada will love this,
knowing how handsome her father is,"
I tell you,
not knowing if it would be true.
The future is too uncertain.
"Sarada feels like a dream," you mumble.
"You — you feel like a dream," I stumble.
My hand reaches for my stomach.
We're expecting.
You take a step to me, my breath heaves.
"I'm sorry I have to leave."
"It's okay... Just come back."
My throat welcomes a lump,
and you touch my stomach's bump.
"Always," you whisper.
Always, I think.
(By Jay-spell — I hope you enjoyed!)
