Sasuke

"Sasuke remember to be careful while above the surface. Make sure no one sees you and don't talk to anyone and make sure your home by sunset". My papa said as I started to leave the palace. "Yes sir". I smiled back at him and continued to swim off with my dark blue tail moving behind me.

I knew exactly why papa was worried about me going above the surface. Us merpeople are one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet. We have amazing singing voices and our tails come in so many different colors that humans would pay thousands of dollars for just one.

With me being a prince means my tail is more valuable than the others and I have a greater chance of being captured. I understand my parents wanting to protect me but at the same time, I just want to be a kid and have fun. I'll worry about all of that when I'm older.

I made my way to the surface and immediately felt my hair start to stick to my skin as I looked over at the beach. There were a bunch of people here. Some were sitting under umbrellas while they lounged on beach chairs.

Some were standing around talking with each other and others were running around playing. There was also a pier with a lot more people walking on it. I didn't have to swim around to know that they were looking out over the ocean while eating or talking or both.

Despite living underwater I knew a lot about the world above. I had to if I wanted to be able to keep myself safe when I was away from my parents are older brothers. I made sure to keep my lower half hidden in the water as I made my way under the pier.

There were a lot of little kids around my age but I knew I couldn't play with them. They were too young to know how to swim and even if they did their parents would never allow them to play with some strange boy they'd never met.

Not to mention that speaking to humans is strictly forbidden. If my dad found out id be in serious trouble and the poor human would have to have their mind erased of the incident. That wouldn't be fair to either of us.

Good thing I just wanted to come up here and watch for a bit

I thought to myself as a beach ball came splashing in the water and landed right next to me under the pier.  I went hide behind one of the pier pilings but it was no use, someone had seen me.

"Hey, can you throw me my ball back"? I averted my eyes to where the voice was coming from and saw a boy with blond hair, peach-colored skin, and eyes as blue as the ocean itself talking to me. He was about the same age as me but what caught my attention the most was that he had what looked like whiskers on his face and his canine teeth were sharper than normal.

All I could do was stare at him. I know I just saw him but I couldn't help but feel hypnotized by him. I had never seen a human like him before. I found myself wanting to talk to him but knew I couldn't. I didn't want my dad to be mad at me and erase his memories.

"Hey! Can you hear me!? I need my ball back"! He asked a little annoyed. That's when I realized I must have zoned out after he spoke to me the first time. Without saying a word I picked up the ball and threw it to him.

He caught it.

"Thanks, what's your name by the way? I'm Naruto".

I shook my head

"Oh come on. You can tell me. I promise I won't tell".

I shook my head again. This time he pouted.

"Were you born not being able to talk? Is that the problem"?

I still said nothing.

He threw the ball at me and I caught it. "That's fine, you don't have to talk for us to be friends". He said smiling.

He wants to be my friend?

I looked down at the ball then back up at him then down at the ball again and threw it. He smiled and caught it then threw it back at me making me smile. We threw it back and forth between ourselves for a long time. Him laughing and me smiling.

I kept thinking that we would get caught by someone above shore but we never did. None of the other humans bothered us. I guess this was normal to them. "Hey, are you hungry"? He asked after a while.
A lot of people had left but there was still a good bit around.

I shook my head but that was a lie. I was hungry. I had only eaten breakfast today and I could tell by looking at the sky and the way the water felt that it was the afternoon. I had never had human food before I didn't know if it would make me sick or not and the last thing I wanted to do was worry my papa.

My stomach felt like betraying me, however. It let out a loud growl and I held it because of the pain I felt. "See I knew you were hungry! Stay right here". I was about to protest but he ran off. I knew I should've disappeared into the water but I was afraid.

I was afraid I would lose my friend if I did. He came back a few minutes later and handed me a chili cheese dog. I took it and looked at it hesitantly. I knew I shouldn't but I didn't want to make him upset. He had spent his money on this for me. Eating it was the least I could do.

I took a bite of it and he smiled. It was one of the best things I had ever tasted. The meat was a little salty, the bread was soft and the chili had a savory taste to it. I took another bite and smiled, then another and another.

I didn't stop until it was gone completely and from how Naruto's face looked I could tell he did the same. "Feeling better"? I nodded my head and he smiled. "Naruto! It's time to come home"! "Sorry, that's my older brother, I gotta go. I'll see you tomorrow though".

He grabbed his ball and ran towards an older boy who also had blond hair but was long. There was also a girl around the same age as us who also had blond hair. I could only assume that was his sister.

I disappeared into the water before anyone could see me and headed home with a smile on my face. I couldn't believe it. I had made my first friend that wasn't a sea creature. "Welcome home prince Sasuke". The guards said as I made it to the palace gates.

"Thank you, Austin, Aster". I smiled at them then made my way inside and headed to my room. I laid down on my bed and smiled as I thought back to everything that had happened today.

I hope I do get to see you again Naruto

There was a soft knock at my door.

"Come in".

It was papa.

"Hi, there sweetie". I sat up and smiled at him as he came sit next to me. "How was your day? Did you enjoy going topside"? "Mhm, I saw a whole bunch of things and no one suspected me at all". "That's good". He said ruffling my hair.

"You know if you continue to be careful like this daddy and I will let you start going up there more often". "Really"!? "Mhm". He said smiling. "Thank you, papa"! I said giving him a big hug.

I might be able to see Naruto more often
