Chapter 18: That's What She Said
Allie's P.O.V
Luke held my hand tightly as we walked around the city. We weren't really doing anything, just wandering around staring at each other. Finally, Luke pulled me into a café on the corner to warm up a little bit. He bought me a hot chocolate because me and hot coffee don't mix well, and himself a cup of tea.
We sat in the corner, holding hands over the table like a cheesy couple from the movies and if I wasn't so content with my life I would have puked.
I swore to myself that I would never become one of those girls.
God, what have I become?
"So," Luke started. "What's up?"
"Nothing," I said. "Tell me about your sister."
Luke blinked. "My sister?"
"Yeah," I said encouragingly." From what you've said, she seems pretty cool."
"Okay," Luke said slowly. "Her name is Finley, she's seventeen and a senior in high school, she's really smart, much smarter than I ever was, and she has anxiety."
"Wait," I interrupted. "No offense, but I don't want to hear about her anxiety. It doesn't define who she is. I want to know the little things."t
Luke rubbed his chin. "She's smart, and pretty, with dark hairlike mine, and she loves food and TV and she often yells at me to shut up. We do this thing that whenever one gets home, we bang on the other's bedroom door," he smiled wistfully. "She always hits my door really hard and usually it wakes me up, but I don't mine," he suddenly looked bashful. "I told her about you."
I was a little startled. "Me? Why?"
"Well, we were hanging out at the top of the stairs after I kind of caused an anxiety attack. She said okay, and then I said I wasn't about to say okay because this wasn't The Fault In Our Stars and she caught on," he blushed. "I told her a girlmade me read it."
I startred to grin. "And you didn't decide to mention that you only read it so you could get in my pants?"
Luke coughed. "I may have, ahem, ommited that part, but then she squealed and hit my arm really excitedly and I told her that," his cheeks colored at this. "That you were really pretty and I kind of liked you and now she wants to meet you."
"She wants to meet me?" I asked. "Well,/if you're going to take me home to meet the fam, buy me dinner first."
Luke laughed."I tried! But some bitch got in the way!"
My expression soured. "She can go suck it."
"That's what she did," he quipped and I smacked him across the table.
"Shut up! I don't need to hear about how bad her blowjob was!"
Luke quirked and eyebrow. "What, you want to prove that yours is better?"
I snorted. "Please. I know mine is better. I can't talk so much shit and then not have a good blowjob."
"Mm," Luke said, leaning forward and resting his head on his hand. "Wanna prove it?"
"Down boy," I said. "It's only the first date."
Luke grinned. "Well," he said, standing up and offering me his hand. "Would you like to go get a drink?"
I looked up at him. "You do realize that we're underage, right?"
Luke shrugged. "And?"
I stood up. "Good point."
...
Luke had his fake ID with him, and he kept buying me drinks because I didn't have mine. I only had a couple, more amused with how Luke started talking once he was drunk.
"I want a platypus," he slurred, looking at me seriously. "Seriously, I would call him Perry and he would be my playtpus."
"A platypus?" I asked, laughing. "Out of all the animals in the world, you picked a playpus?"
He hiccuped then scowled at me. "Platypuses are amazing."
"Platypi,"I corrected.
Luke waved an airy hand, almost hitting me in the face. "Whatever."
As he ordered another drink, I sighed. Good job, Luke, getting drunk on a date. Granted, the first half of the date had been pretty nice, but now I was kind of bored and I wanted to go home. I was eyeing the popcorn machine in the corner of the bar. It was free, and I was seriously considering taking some in place of breadsticks.
"Luke," I said, getting his attention by tapping him on the shoulder. "Luke, I'm gonna go."
He turned to me and jutted his lip out. "Take me with you!" he pleaded and launched himself at me.
I buckled under his weight and exchanged glances with the bartender, who looked sorry for me.
"Luke," I said firmly. "Honestly, the first part of this date was nice, and I had fun, but now you're drunk and I'm not enjoying myself. I'm going to go home, okay?"
I then realized that he wasn't listening and was half asleep on my shoulder. I sighed loudly, blowing a piece of my hair out of my face.
The bartender said, "Do you want me to call a cab?"
"That'd be great, thanks," I said, manurvering so I could prop Luke up on a bar stool.
I slapped him in the face a couple times to wake him up. "Luke, wake up. We're going home and going to bed."
"Good," Luke mumbled, eyes opening blearily. "Bed. I'ma.... fuck you... so hard, babygirl."
I laughed and so did the bartender.
"Okay, babe, you do that," I said.
"I will!" Luke insisted, suddenly looking more awake at the promise of sex. "C'mere, my sassy Allie."
Although the nickname weakened me, I refused to give in. "No, Luke, you're trashed. We're going home and I'm going to put you to bed."
"Wanna... test out that blowjob theory?" Luke mumbled
Oh God.
I covered my face with my hands as the bartender laughed. When I lowered them, by cheeks were red.
"Alright, drunkie," I snapped. "Why don't you shut the fuck up and sober up."
The bartender finally stopped laughing. "Yeah, why don't we test out that blowjob theory?"
Godammit, I knew he was a creep.
I shot him a glare so dark it would have made space look bright. "I may be tiny, but I can and will kick your ass so hard you'll be picking fragments of my boots out of your asshole for years."
Just then, the cab got there.
I breathed a sigh of relief. Oh thank God.
...
Putting Luke into bed was easy. Getting him to stay there without me was a challenge.
"No," I said, pushing him back down, making his head flop against the pillows. "Now stay," I said, raising my finger at him like he was a disobiedient puppy, which was how he was acting.
"No," he whined. "Cuddle!"
I sighed, holding the bridge of my nose. "Luke, we went over this. We are not dating, so we do not share the same bed."
"Then be my girlfriend," he mumbled.
I stared at him. "Did you just ask me to be your girlfriend?"
Luke nodded. "Uh huh."
"We'll talk about this in the morning," I said, leaving my room and closing the door.
When I settled on the couch, I sighed, rubbing my forehead. The boy was going to give me an ulcer and we weren't even dating.
God knows what's going to happen when we do.
...
I woke up to Luke poking me.
He looked like shit, and he had an expression of panic on his face. "Allie!" he hissed. "Wake up!"
I groaned and buried my face in my arms, trying to block out the sunlight. "Wha' time is it?" I mumbled.
"Eight," he said.
I felt all will to get up drain out of my body. "Too early.
"Allie, this is serious! Did I ask you to be my girlfrieand last night?" Luke asked frantically.
I turned my head to glare at him with one eye. "Oh, so now you're remembering? That you got trashed on our date and can't even remember if you asked me to be your girlfriend or not?"
Luke held his head in his hands. "Oh God," he groaned. "This is not how I wanted to ask you."
I sat up, sleep forgotten and stared at him. "You were serious?"
"Um, yeah!" he said. "Jesus, we've gone over this, I like you. I want to date you."
"But you don't date," I said, slightly dumbfounded.
Luke smiled a little bit. "Well, I do, just not often. It's hard for me to find a girl that I want to date and then she has to reciprocate my feelings, not just want my dick."
I rolled my eyes. "I'm sure a lot of girls don't want your dick, myself included."
"Perfect!" Luke grinned. "I like you, you don't want my dick, it's meant to be!"
I shook my head. "Sure, keep telling yourself that."
Luke rolled his eyes then got down to one knee, looking up at me sitting on the couch drmatically, "Allie Reed, will you be my girlfriend?"
I laughed, but nodded. "What do I have to loose?"
Luke smiled brightly and for up to hug me, pinning me on the couch. I kissed him and the strangest thing was, I felt like I could kiss him for days, like oxygen wasn't necessary. With all the boys I had kissed, I never felt like that. Sure, kissing them was nice, but it didn't set me off, didn't make me feel like electricity was under my skin and racing through my veins. The funny thing is, I hated Luke when I first saw him and the other boys I thought were cute when I first saw them.
Huh.
Maybe we are meant to be.
