So tell me about that Senate, Mr. Senator
Dec 1950
The year was coming to an end quickly. Both Jack and Sarah hadn't noticed how fast the year was going. Jack decided to ask Sarah if she wanted to come over to Hyannis Port to met his family. It had been six months since they started dating he figured they should go public now. She always blushed at the idea of being public with Jack or as she called him JFK as if she were one of his fans that would stalk his Senate office at times. She could hear his stern voice play over and over again "no, no you call me Jack" he said while wrapping his arm around her and embracing her in a hug. She loved his warmth and since she was a nurse she knew how to take care of Jack. She ran him warm baths for him and massage his back. She would even administer medications for him sometimes. She wondered how he got so far in life without someone doing these things for him.
She was in New York for early December but as planned she would fly to Hyannis Port on the 20th to meet his family. She was excited. She had heard so much about the Kennedy clan. She was most worried about Joe. Would he like me? Would he approve me and his son together? She knew Jack was a senator but he said he had more plans. She couldn't figure it out but she knew in politics appearance was everything and she didn't know if she fit the bill. She wasn't even sure if she knew how to answer political questions. It was all in Gods hands as she saw it.
Sarah made her way through Central Park. Snow was everywhere and she was happy. Happy to be there and happy the year was over, but she missed Jack dearly. Jack would have probably started a snow fight in Central Park with her. He would win of course. She giggled to herself and she turned the corner. She spotted a store on the corner that sold ties. Very nice ones. She figured she should buy one and get it monogrammed with his name on it. She left the store to go packing for the trip to Hyannis port. Her eyes were fixed on the ties.
Jack was in his Senate office working on a bill as Sarah called him.
"Hello"
"Jack, it's Sarah."
"Sarah!" Jack was excited as he hasn't spoken to Sarah in almost two days.
"Jack, I wanted to asked you do you have a favorite color?"
Jack started getting suspicious as he knows Christmas is coming around. Being playful he answered, "no I don't"
"Ok I'll be leaving arriving on the 20th, remember?"
"How can I forget?" He asked
He missed her, God he missed her. Touching her, hugging her. Her laugh and pink cheeks. Everything about her. Her smell, her cooking and even...
Jack was interrupted in his thoughts
"So Jack will tell me all about the Senate? You know at least about you and your plans."
Jack just remembered he did say he would tell her.
"Sure I will."
"Ok I'll see you soon. Hugs and kisses"
"Hugs and kisses" Jack replied and with that he hung up the phone. Hugs and kisses had become their signature. Their thing.

Sarah arrives at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port where she's greeted by Jack waiting for her with red roses.
Sara spots him and runs up to him.
"Jack"!
Jack smiled and embraces her
"I've missed you." Jack whispered in her ear. "How have you been?"
Sarah starts to tell him all about her day
They enter a car that takes them to Hyannis Port and drops them off at Jack's house.
The air is cold as it's winter time in Boston. Sarah looks out the window observing all of the sights.
"I have something I want to tell you." Jack whispers
Sarah looks at Jack attentively.
"I'm running for president one day. Like by the end of the decade."
Sarah looks at Jack and bursts out in tears and laughs.
Jack's face changed from serious to shocked and embarrassed.
"Oh, you're serious."
She didn't think that the day would come. She knew she was dating a politician but the White House? Jack wants to go all the way to the White House. She couldn't believe it.
Jack nods and looks at Sarah.
"Well, I support you in everything you do. But are you sure you want this?"
"As sure as I can be sweetie."
They drive up to Jack's parents house and they are greeted by his father and siblings, his mother's inside wrapping Christmas gifts.
"So you must be the girl who's softened Jack." Bobby says and laughs
Jack slaps Bobby's head softly and Sarah smiles. Sarah extends her hand toward Bobby.
"It's nice meeting you all."
"This is Bobby, Ted and Eunice, Pat, Jean"
They all shake hands and go inside
"It looks like we're having a slumber party!" Eunice exclaims
Jack rolls his eyes as they all clamor to run upstairs
He quickly grabs her hand and Sarah turns back to look into his blue eyes.
"Be back soon okay?"
"Of course."
They kiss and Sarah runs upstairs to meet Jack's sisters.
The family sits down to eat dinner and Joe finally speaks up. Sarah finds herself tensing up and Jack holds her hand. He gets close to her and whispers.
"It's okay, don't be scared."
"So this is Sarah I've heard so much about." Jack says trying to size up the young woman. "What your plans for Jack? You wanna marry him?" Joe inquires
Sarah nods and looks up at jack
"Maybe one day. You raised your son so well. He's very sweet."
"What makes you think he'll want to marry you?" Joe says.
Jack coughs loudly and covers his mouth.
"Dad that's enough!" Bobby exclaims
"No let him speak" Ted says as he raises his hands and adjusts his sweater
"Do you know of Jack's aspirations, of him wanting to be president? Do you?"
Sarah nods her head and looks at Jack. Jack grabs her hand as if it were a security blanket. Tightly and secure.
"Well, you look like a good girl and Jack seems to like to plenty. Do you want to be First Lady?" Joe asks
"I can't be that, if I need to be"
She looks up at Jack and Jack squeezes her hand harder
" well, you two have my blessing. If you want this. But that means from now on your live and breathe politics, that job you were doing at the hospital is now over, you hear me?"
"Ive heard you." Sarah says
Jack smiles at her.
"You'll be a great First Lady." Jack whispers in her ear.

Sarah and Jack walk into his room together. And Jack embraces her.
"You were great Sarah. Sorry about my dad. He's can be a bit of a jerk at times." Jack whispered.
Jack kisses her forehead and holds her closer.
Sarah looks up at him and kisses him and rests her head on his chest, feeling the warmth radiate off of his chest through his sweater. Life with Jack is good she thought.
