chapter 23 - Sacrifice

From 1.01 "Pilot", on the island, Oliver had his hair and beard grown, wearing a green hood, filthy and weak.

Oliver: (voice over) "My name is Oliver Queen."

Jill had really long hair, filthy and weak.

Jill: (voice over) "I'm Jill Wright."

Jill was running through the woods, using a knife to stab into a tree and pull herself up into the branches.

Jill: (voice over from 1.01 Pilot) "I've been stranded here for six years. I've dreamt of my rescue every cold black night since then."

Oliver reached the arrows on the beach, using Jill's knife to strike up a flame, shooting a bonfire to strike up the fire.

Oliver: (voice over from 1.01 Pilot) "I've been here for five years. I have had only one thought. One goal. Survive."

From 1.01 "Pilot", on the news, the only thing that the man on the news channel could talk about was Oliver and Jill's return. "Oliver Queen is alive, along with a woman by the name of Jill Wright."

From 1.01 "Pilot", outside the Queen Mansion, Oliver and Jill were talking.

"My dad asked me to save this city," Oliver told her. "To right his wrongs. I will."

From 1.01 "Pilot", in the hideout, Oliver and Jill were talking after he stitched her wound.

"I'm not doing this just for you," Jill told him.

Oliver nodded. "You're doing this for your family."

Jill sighed, looking down, shaking her head. "I swore that I wouldn't let what happened to them happen to anyone else. And to do that, I need to put these guys in their places."

From 1.06 "Legacies", in the hideout, Oliver and Jill were training at the hideout with two metal short staffs. Oliver and shirtless. Jill was in workout clothes, including a sports bra.Oliver tried to hit her with both of his staffs in a blur of motion. Jill used both of hers to block the moves just as fast.

Jill: (voice over) "But to do that without endangering the people closest to us..."

From 1.03 "Lone Gunmen", outside the auction house, Jill/Sapphire turned around to follow the laser light up to the building across the street, glaring.

Jill: (voice over) "I have to be someone else."

From 1.06 "Legacies", in the hideout, Oliver and Jill were training at the hideout with two metal short staffs. Oliver and shirtless. Jill was in workout clothes, including a sports bra. Oliver swung both of his up over their heads, trying to come down on her. Jill raised both of hers in an X shape to block both of his.

Oliver: (voice over) "I have to be..."

From 1.01 "Pilot", in the night club's basement, Oliver/Arrow stood next to Jill/Sapphire's bedside, lowering his hood.

Oliver: (voice over) "Something else."

From 1.01 'Pilot", there was a raging storm over the ocean.

Oliver: (voice over) "Previously on Sapphire Arrow."

From 1.22 "Darkness on the Edge of Town", in Oliver's room, Jill and Oliver were talking.

"What are you trying to say?" Jill asked.

"That... you know me better than anyone," Oliver answered. "And that you... are more important to me than anyone."

Jill shook her head, pulling Oliver into a kiss. They continued to kiss slowly at first, building up passionately and hungrily. Jill started to unbutton his shirt. Oliver pulled it off. He lifted her so her legs wrapped around his waist.

Oliver: (voice over from 1.23 Darkness on the Edge of Town) "I just hope I didn't wait too long to say it."

Jill wrapped her arms around his neck, continuing to kiss him. Oliver carried Jill to his bed, lying her down, pulling her shirt over her head. They looked at each other for a long moment, smiling small smiles, breathing heavily, continuing to kiss.

Jill: (voice over from 1.23 Darkness on the Edge of Town) "You didn't wait too long. You're right on time."

From 1.23 "Darkness on the Edge of Town", in the church, Kira and Karma, suited up, Jill/Sapphire and Oliver/Arrow were meeting in the middle of the ARGUS agents that were gathered there to keep an eye on the twins.

"So, what's the Undertaking?" Jill asked.

"It's Malcolm Merlyn's plan to level the Glades," Kira answered.

"How?" Oliver asked.

"There's a device," Karma answered. "It can cause an earthquake."

"It could be in Starling City by now for all we know," Kira told them.

"And why should we believe you?" Jill asked.

"Because you can't afford not to," Karma answered.

From 1.23 "Darkness on the Edge of Town", in Malcolm's office, Oliver/Arrow and Malcolm were fighting.

Malcolm punched through the bow, breaking it, punching Oliver in the head. Oliver stood, tackling Malcolm into the wall behind him. Malcolm slammed Oliver's head against the wall, making him fall, kicking him repeatedly while he was down, knocking him out.

Malcolm knelt next to Oliver, pulling off his hood to see his face, breathing heavily. He was in shock to realize that it was Oliver.

From 1.23 "Darkness on the Edge of Town", in the warehouse, Jill/Sapphire had heard the entire fight between them, in shock when she realized that Malcolm Merlyn wasn't working with the Dark Archer, but that he was the Dark Archer, and that he could very well be on his way to killing Oliver. "Oh, no."

Jill ran out of the warehouse, leaving.

Flashback - 1.01 "Pilot"

Day - Ocean


Oliver, Robert and the other man were on their lifeboat, exhausted, thirsty and starving.

Robert looked at Oliver. "You can survive this. Make it home. Make it better. Right my wrongs."

Robert kissed his head, drawing a gun, shooting the other man in the head, killing him.

The man's body fell out of the raft into the ocean.

Oliver looked at Robert in shock. "Dad?"

Robert looked at him in guilt and regret. "Survive."

Robert put the gun to his head.

"No!" Oliver told him.

Robert pulled the trigger, shooting himself in the head, killing himself so that his son could live on.



Now

Night - Warehouse - Room 


Oliver was chained to the ceiling with his hands above his head, shirtless.

A guard splashed water over him with a bucket.

Oliver gasped and groaned in pain.

The guard walked out, leaving.

Oliver looked around.

Malcolm waked in. "I hope I didn't hurt you. At least I can properly thank you now for saving my life. If I only knew how you and Jillian Wright were spending your nights... my hope is that I can explain everything to you to help you understand."

"You murdered my father," Oliver told him angrily. "You sentenced me to that island, to five years of hell."

"I am truly sorry for what happened to you," Malcolm told him. "You know I have lost people."

"Yeah, your wife," Oliver told him. "Do you really think that you're honoring Tommy's mother by destroying the Glades?"

"As surely as you believe you're honoring your father with this hood," Malcolm told him, holding up Yao Fei and Oliver's hood. Oliver glared at him angrily. "Not a day goes by I don't miss your father."

"You'll see him soon," Oliver told him. 

Malcolm stepped closer. "You can't beat me, Oliver. Yes, you're younger. You're faster. But you always seem to come up short against me. Want to know why? Because you don't know, in your heart, what you're fighting for. What you're willing to sacrifice. And I do. No one can stop what's about to come." He walked away toward the door, stopping in the doorway, holding up Oliver's hood. "Not even the vigilantes."

Malcolm dropped the hood, walking out, leaving.

Oliver glared after him, lowering his gaze, remembering.




Flashback

Day - Lian Yu - Soldier Camp - Tent


The soldiers were still holding Slade, Oliver, Jill and Shado captive in the tent.

Alan was sitting at the table, tracking the plane's movements through radio, looking at Edward. "The plane's holding steady at 33,000 feet. That's the range for missile intercept, sir."

Shado was looking at Yao Fei's dead body, crying in despair.

Edward looked at Alan. "Lock missile one on target."

"Missile one locked on the jet's heat trail," Alan told him.

"Prepare to launch on my mark," Edward told him.

"Yes, sir," Alan told him.

Oliver looked at Jill worriedly.

Jill looked behind Oliver to see the knife he was holding.

Oliver pulled free from his cut restraints, running toward Edward and Alan, pushing Edward out of the way, stabbing Alan in the arm,

Jill stood, turning her back to Oliver.

Oliver used the knife to cut Jill free.

Jill ran up to Soldier 1, kicking him in the face.

Oliver cut Shado free.

Soldier 2 punched Oliver in the face.

Edward kicked Slade down.

Shado flipped Soldier 3 to the ground.

Edward spoke into his radio. "Fire! Fire the missile now!"

Soldier 4 tried to hit Jill with his gun. Jill caught the gun by its side, flipping him to the ground.

Shado broke Alan's neck, killing him.




Outside


Shado ran out of the tent after Edward.

Jill, Oliver and Slade ran outside.

The missile was launched into the sky.





Now

Night - Warehouse


Jill/Sapphire found Oliver in a warehouse, fighting her way inside. She came up behind Guard 1 outside, kicking him in the back, making him fall into Guard 2, spinning to kick Guard 1, punching Guard 2 in the face, grabbing onto Guard 1's shoulders to kick up both legs onto Guard 2's shoulders, flipping them both to the ground, slamming their heads onto the ground hard enough to make them fall unconscious. She stood, walking through the hallway, turning a corner. Guard 3 was waiting with a gun, trying to shoot Jill. Jill ducked out of the way, punching him in the face. Guard 4 ran toward Jill from behind. Jill kicked Guard 3 in the face, making him fall, spinning to slash her sword against the gun in Guard 4's hands, making him drop it. Guard 4 tried to punch her. Jill backed away enough to make him miss, kicking him in the stomach, slashing him in the arm with the sword, making him fall. Guard 5 ran toward her with a baton, trying to hit her with it. Jill used the sword to block the move, spinning to backhand punch him in the face. Guard 5 tried to punch her. Jill ducked, kicking him in the chest. Guard 6 ran up from behind Guard 5. Jill grabbed onto Guard 5's shoulders to kick Guard 6 in the chest with both feet, making him fall, slamming Guard 5 onto the floor hard enough to make him fall unconscious. Guard 6 stood, trying to punch her. Jill caught his arm, kicking him in the head, making him fall to the floor. Guards 7 and 8 ran up from either side of Jill, trying to shoot her. Jill ducked to the floor, throwing knives into both of their hands to make them drop the guns, standing. Both guards tried to kick her from either side. Jill ducked, making them kick each other, pushing them both through a door at the side of the hallway, making them both fall to the floor. Guards 9 and 10 ran toward Jill from either side. Jill kicked Guard 10 behind her without looking at him, spinning to slash Guard 9 in the cheek with her sword, making him fall. Guard 9 stood, trying to punch her. Jill ducked, turning to kick the legs out from under Guard 10, making him fall to his knees next to her, hitting him in the head with the hilt of the sword, making him fall unconscious, standing, spinning to kick Guard 9 behind her in the head, making him fall unconscious. Guard 11 ran toward her. Jill elbowed him in the face. Guard 11 tried to punch her repeatedly. Jill blocked the moves with her arms and her sword, making him cut himself. Guard 11 tried to punch her. Jill ducked, turning to stand next to him, wrapping an arm around his neck, spinning to flip him to the floor. Jill heard Guard 12 coming up from behind her, drawing two knives, spinning to face him, throwing the knives into both of his hands, making them hit the wall and pin him there.

Jill glared at him for a moment, turning to run down the hallway.




Room


Oliver heard the fighting from in the hallway, knowing that Jill was here. He flipped his legs up to the chains above his head, pulling himself up toward the ceiling. Once he got to the bar in the ceiling where the chains were suspended from, he let himself fall toward the floor, the weight enough to break the pipe and let the chain slip off. 

Water started to spill from the busted pipe.

Guard 13 ran into the room down the stairs. Oliver stood, using the chains to hit him in the face, making him fall, using the chains to grab his neck and break it, killing him. He walked toward the wall, hiding behind it for cover. Guard 14 walked in from next to him, turning to aim the gun at Oliver. Oliver slung the chains around his arm to disarm him, punching him in the face, making him turn away, wrapping the chains around his neck, pulling hard enough to snap his neck, killing him, letting him fall. He knelt next to the guard, feeling his pockets for the keys to the chains. Guard 15 walked in, aiming a gun at Oliver, trying to shoot him.

A knife was thrown into Guard 15's stomach, making him fall to the ground.

Oliver was surprised, turning to look behind him, seeing Jill/Sapphire walking closer.

"I take back every joke I made about you having both of us stick a tracking device in our boots," Jill told him.

Oliver sighed in relief.


➣ Sapphire Arrow ➣  


Verdant - Basement


Oliver/Arrow and Jill/Sapphire walked down into the hideout beneath Verdant, not wearing the mask or hood.

John was waiting for them. "Felicity and Justin are at Queen Consolidated. They're still going through the data she pulled off Merlyn's network."

"Did they find anything?" Oliver asked.

"Yeah," John answered. "The design schematics of the earthquake generator. So we can shut it down. Assuming we find it in time." His phone rang. He pulled it out to answer. "Yeah, Justin, Jill saved him."

Justin and Felicity were walking out of Queen Consolidated.

"Thank God," Justin told him. "Are they okay?"

"Mostly," John answered.

"Okay," Justin told him. "We're on our way."

Justin hung up.

Jessica walked closer. "Justin Smoak." Justin and Felicity turned to face Jessica. "Where are you two off to in such a hurry?"

 Justin put his phone away, sighing.

Felicity looked at Justin nervously.




Day Two

Morning - Police Precinct - Interrogation Room


Jessica opened the door for Justin and Felicity, inviting them inside. "Please. Take a seat."

They walked in.

"You know, I think I'd rather stand," Felicity told them.

Jessica closed the door.

Justin and Felicity sat down.

"You're not exactly hardened criminals, are you?" Jessica asked.

"No," Justin answered. "We're not any kind of criminals. You should know that."

"I know that fact about you, Justin," Jessica told him. She looked at Felicity. "But I don't know anything about you. What do you call computer hacking?"

"A hobby," Felicity answered. Jessica nodded, sitting down on the other side of the table. "That I do not engage in."

"Hey, I got a whole mess of computer gobbedly gook that I don't understand, but it says otherwise," Jessica told her. "I had my tech guys go through your computer at Queen Consolidated. You used it to hack into Blackhawk squad security to research arrows shipped to a company called Sagittarius and to analyze a water sample to tie back to a Vertigo drug lab." She looked at Justin. "All under your request, I'm guessing, since your sister is the one that you went for to help with your police consultation. These are all cases involving... the vigilantes. Now, you tell me. What am I thinking?" Her phone rang. She smirked. "Saved by the bell. Excuse me."

Jessica answered her phone.

Jill's disguised voice was on the other line. "Hello, Detective."

"It's funny you should call," Jessica told her. "I got your trusty sidekicks sitting right in front of me."

Jill was in the hideout with John and Oliver. "We don't have sidekicks. When my friend and I need help, I call you. Malcolm Merlyn plans to level the Glades with a man made earthquake using technology from Unidac Industries."

"What?" Jessica asked, standing, chuckling. "Now you're just trying to have some fun with me."

"I don't know what Merlyn's timetable is, so you need to evacuate the Glades immediately," Jill told her. "Get as many people to safety as you can. Whatever you think of me, Detective, please... believe this."

Jessica hung up, looking down.

"Sounds like you have bigger problems than us," Justin told her.

Jessica turned to face them. "I don't want to be the bad guy here. I'm talking to you first before my dad does, because he has no restrictions in playing the bad cop when it come to finding the vigilantes."

Justin and Felicity stood, walking toward the door.

Felicity turned back. "You know, I used to think the vigilantes were criminals. But it seems to me, whoever they are, they're willing to sacrifice an awful lot to help the people of this city. Kind of makes them heroes, doesn't it?"

Justin and Felicity walked out, leaving.

Jessica watched them go, sighing.

Verdant 


Tommy was drinking at the bar.

Oliver walked in.

Tommy chuckled bitterly. "Look who it is. My best friend in life."

"Hey, buddy," Oliver told him.

"Why did you call me to meet you here?" Tommy asked.

Oliver walked closer. "Something's happening, and it involves your father."

"Keep my father out of this," Tommy told him.

"Our fathers," Oliver told him. "They aren't the men we thought they were. They made a plan together... to destroy the Glades."

Tommy looked at him in confusion, shaking his head. "Do you have any idea what you sound like right now?"

"Your father's going to do it," Oliver told him. "Because he thinks it will avenge your mother's death."

"Do not talk about my mother," Tommy told him angrily, trying to punch him.

Oliver tilted to the side to make him miss and fall to the floor behind him. He turned to face Tommy, kneeling in front of him. "The difference between us, Tommy, is that I didn't find out the truth about my father until it was too late. And you've always known, deep down, you have always known the man he is."

Tommy shook his head, leaning closer to glare him in the eyes. "I wish you would have died on that island."

Oliver looked as if he expected this, nodding to himself, looking down. He stood, sighing, walking away.




Flashback

Day - Soldier Camp


The missile had been launched.

Soldiers were firing at Jill and Oliver.

Jill and Oliver took cover behind a tree.

Shado grabbed the ankle of a soldier that was standing on the missile launcher, flipping him to the ground.

Slade was shooting at the soldiers, yelling in rage.

Oliver saw his bow and arrow on the ground by the tent, dodging for it.

Jill ran up to the launcher, jumping up onto it, kicking a soldier to the ground.

Shado tore open the control panel on the launcher. "We need to reprogram the missile."

"I don't know how to reprogram a missile launcher," Jill told her.

"I do," Shado told her.

Jill looked behind her. She jumped over Shado to kick a soldier in the head, making him fall, landing in a crouch next to him. She grabbed his gun, firing at the soldiers that were trying to get onto the launcher to stop them.

Oliver fired his bow and arrow at soldiers on the ground while Slade fired at them with his gun.

Shado flipped a soldier off of the launcher to the ground. "Jill, put the chip in."

Jill stood.

A soldier tried to push her off the launcher. Jill grabbed onto him to stay on, punching him in the face, pushing him against the control panel. The soldier pushed her onto the floor of the launcher, punching her repeatedly. Jill kicked him back, pushing him off of the launcher. She stood, putting the chip into the control panel.

The missile was deterred from its course, letting the plane go.

Jill jumped down from the missile launcher, taking cover.

The missile hit the ground at the soldier camp, setting it ablaze.

Jill sat back tiredly on the ground, watching the flames.




Now

Day - Police Precinct 


Jessica was talking to Lance and Lt. Frank Pike.

"Make it quick," Pike told her. "I got a comm stat meeting in five. I don't want to be late to my own funeral."

"I've got it under good authority that Malcolm Merlyn is planning on leveling the Glades using some kind of earthquake device made by Unidac Industries," Jessica told them.

Lance turned to face her in confusion. "Who's your source in all this?"

Jessica sighed, knowing that she had to tell the truth no matter the consequences. "The girl in blue. She called me." Everyone in the room looked at Jessica. "Has been for the last few months. They've been helpful on some cases. I swore to uphold the law, because the law is steady, the law is unchanging, the law needed to be protected. But what are laws, rules, if they don't protect people? Now listen, I know, I'm throwing away my career by telling you this, but I am willing to sacrifice it if it means saving people's lives. Please."

"You're suspended," Pike told her. Jessica sighed, looking down. "Leave the gun and your badge with the duty sergeant."

Pike turned away.

"Lieutenant..." Jessica trailed off.

Pike turned to face her. "Suspension or incarceration. You choose."

Pike walked out, leaving.

Lance gave Jessica a look.

Jessica sighed, turning around, walking away.




Queen Mansion - Moira's Room


Moira was sadly packing Walter's things into a box.

Oliver walked in. "No more lies, Mom. I know about the Undertaking. And I know about your involvement in it." Moira looked at him in surprise. "We need to stop it."

"Everything I have ever said or done has been to protect you and your sisters," Moira told him.

"What about all those people in the Glades?" Oliver asked.

Moira turned to face him. "I'm not their mother."

Oliver stepped closer. "I spoke to Malcolm."

Moira looked at him in shock. "You what? He could have killed you. He killed your father."

Oliver shook his head. "No, he didn't. After the 'Gambit' went down, Dad and I both made it to the life raft. And then we drifted, for days. In the end, there wasn't enough food and water for both of us." He sighed heavily. "So he shot himself in the head."

Moira turned away. "I don't want to hear this."

"He sacrificed himself so that I could live," Oliver told her. Moira turned to face him emotionally. "Do you really think that I could go on living knowing that you sacrificed thousands more in my name?" Moira had tears in her eyes. "Mom, please. You have to help me stop Malcolm. We need to know where the device is."

Moira's phone rang. She walked toward it, answering it. "Malcolm." Oliver turned to face her. "How can I help you?" Moira turned to face Oliver. "I see. Yes, thank you for calling."

Moira hung up.

"What is it?" Oliver asked.

"Malcolm's accelerated his timetable," Moira answered. "The Undertaking is... is happening tonight." Oliver looked at her worriedly, walking toward the door. Moira turned after him. "Where are you going?"

Oliver turned to face her. "Somebody in this family needs to put an end to this. Whatever the cost."

Oliver walked out, leaving.

Moira watched him go worriedly, confused by what his part in all this was.

Foyer


Jill was in the foyer, waiting for Oliver.

Oliver walked down the stairs toward her.

"Does she know where the device is?" Jill asked.

"No," Oliver answered. "But Malcolm called her."

Jill looked at him worriedly. "What?"

"Yeah," Oliver answered. "He's moving up the timetable. The Undertaking happens tonight."

Jill sighed worriedly, looking away. "We have to find that device."

"My mom and dad were apart of this," Oliver told her. "And now I'm going to stop it. They weren't who I thought they were. No one in my life is who I thought they were. We have to stop this."

"We will," Jill told him. "Let's go."

Oliver nodded.

They walked out, leaving.




Merlyn Global Group - Malcolm's Office


Malcolm was sitting at his desk.

Tommy walked in, taking off his suit jacket, tossing it down. "It's over. My friendship with Oliver, I mean."

"I'm sorry, son," Malcolm told him.

Tommy poured himself a glass of Scotch, walking closer. "Yeah, and he said you wanted to nuke the Glades or something." He took a drink. "You know, it's funny, Scotch doesn't make it any more believable." Malcolm stood. "Maybe after your jihad, we can grab some steaks."

Malcolm turned to face him. "It's true, Tommy. It's the reason I closed your mother's clinic. I didn't want to see it leveled."

Tommy looked at him in confusion. "What?"

"I have something I'd like you to listen to," Malcolm told him, walking toward the table, picking up a canister lid and his phone. "The night your mother died, she called me." Tommy walked closer. "I awoke to a voicemail from her."

"Dad..." Tommy trailed off.

"Her final gift to me," Malcolm told him, putting his phone into the lid so that the sound would vibrate out into the room for Tommy to hear.

Rebecca: (on voicemail) "Malcolm, I'm in trouble. I told--I told him to take everything. My money... my ring."

Tommy knew that he was listening to his mother dying, shaking his head. "Turn it off."

Rebecca: (on voicemail) "He shot me. I screamed for help, but no one would come. Malcolm, I don't want to die alone."

"She bled out into the pavement while people passed, did nothing," Malcolm told him. Tommy closed his eyes. "Your mother built her clinic in the Glades because she wanted to save this city. It can't be saved. Because the people there don't want it to be saved."

Tommy glared at him angrily, incredulously. "So you kill them all?"

Malcolm screamed his answer, making his son jump. "Yes! They deserve to die! All of them! The way she died!"

Tommy looked at him in shock.




Verdant - Basement


Oliver and Jill walked into the hideout to join John, Justin and Felicity.

"The Undertaking is happening tonight," Oliver told them.

"Guys, Felicity may have found something," Justin told them.

Felicity showed them the symbol in Robert's book. "This symbol is a map of the old subway tunnel system."

"That's what got us thinking the Undertaking is connected to the Glades," Jill told them.

"What if it's more specific than that?" Felicity asked.

"What do you mean?" Oliver asked.

"If I had a machine that could trigger an earthquake in an otherwise geologically stable area, where would I position it?" Felicity asked.

"Underground," John answered.

"Yeah," Felicity agreed, pulling up a geological map. "This is a US geological survey of the tectonic plates running underneath Starling City. This red line here is a known fault that runes right below the Glades."

"About a mile, the fault runs underneath the old tenth street subway line," John told them.

"Dollars to donuts, the seismic device is somewhere along there," Felicity told them.

Oliver realized. "I know where it is." His phone vibrated. He pulled it out. "Now is not a good time."

Thea was in the foyer of the Queen Mansion, walking toward the living room. "Yeah, understate much? Mom has a whole bunch of reporters here." She walked into the living room, looking at the press conference congregated in the living room in front of Moira. "She's holding a press conference or something."

"What channel?" Oliver asked.

"Ah, it looks like all of them," Thea answered.

Oliver hung up, turning to the others. "Felicity, pull up the local news, please."

Felicity pulled up the news.

Moira was hosting a press conference from the mansion. "My name is Moira Dearden Queen. I am the acting CEO of Queen Consolidated."




Queen Mansion - Living Room


Moira was holding the press conference while Thea watched. "And God forgive me, I have failed the city." Thea looked at her in confusion. "For the past five years, under the threat for my life and the lives of my family... I have been complicit in an Undertaking with one horrible purpose." Lt. Pike, Lance and several other officers were apart of the crowd in the room. "To destroy the Glades and everyone in it."

Everyone was in shock.




CNRI Office


Skylar and Laurel were watching the news along with everyone in the office, in shock.

Skylar was disconcerted with her mother.

Moira: (on TV) "I realize now that my family's safety will mean nothing if I let this dreadful act occur. But you need to know..."




Merlyn Global Group - Malcolm's Office 


Tommy and Malcolm were watching the news on a laptop that was on the desk.

Moira: (on TV) "That the architect of this nightmare... is Malcolm Merlyn."

Malcolm slammed the laptop closed in a rage, slamming it against the desk, destroying it. "No!"




Queen Mansion - Living Room


Moira held the press conference while Thea watched. "Yes, and I have proof that he has killed dozens in pursuit of this madness. Adam Hunt, Frank Chen, and my husband... Robert."

Thea was completely in shock, horrified.




CNRI Office


Skylar was still watching the news. She was completely in shock, horrified, covering her mouth with her hand.

Laurel looked at Skylar in concern, in shock and horrified.

Everyone else in the office looked at Skylar, knowing that her mother was involved in all of this.

Moira: (on TV) "Please. If you reside in the Glades, you need to get out now. Your lives and the lives of your children depend on it. Please."

Skylar lowered her hand to her side, breathing slightly heavily from the shock and horror, tears in her eyes.




Queen Mansion - Living Room 


Moira ended the press conference by walking through the crowd toward Thea.

All of the reporters were talking at once.

Thea was visibly angry and betrayed. "I don't understand."

"I'm sorry," Moira told her. "I love you. Where's Skylar?"

"She's in the Glades," Thea answered. "At CNRI. And Roy, he lives in the Glades. I can't leave them there."

"Sweetheart," Moira told her. Thea ran away. "Thea!"

Lt. Pike arrested Moira. "Moira Queen, you're under arrest for conspiracy. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney."

The police took Moira away.




Merlyn Global Group - Malcolm's Office


Malcolm was calming down after his psychotic outburst.

"Is it true?" Tommy asked. "Did you kill all those people?"

Malcolm turned to face him. "I did what I had to do."

Tommy looked at him incredulously.

Malcolm walked toward the door, opening the hidden door to the Dark Archer suit, showing Tommy who he really was.

Tommy gasped, shaking his head in denial.

Three SWAT men walked in, aiming guns. "Freeze!"

"Malcolm Merlyn, you are under arrest," SWAT Man 1 told him. "Don't move!"

Malcolm ran into the hidden room to grab his sword, slashing through the three men.

"Dad, no!" Tommy told him. Malcolm killed the men, letting them fall. Tommy grabbed a gun from one of the bodies, aiming at his father. "Please, Dad." Malcolm smirked, walking closer. "Stay back. I don't want to hurt you."

"You can't," Malcolm told him. "And you can't stop me."

Malcolm easily disarmed Tommy, hitting him in the head with the hilt of his sword, making him fall unconscious.




Verdant - Basement


Oliver was pacing.

"Oliver, I'm sorry," Jill told him.

Oliver shook his head. "Don't be. She gave those people a chance."

Oliver reached into a box.

"I thought Merlyn broke your bow," John told him.

Oliver picked up another bow. "I have another."

Oliver turned to face the others.

"I was going over the device schematics," Felicity told them. "The device can be set for a timed detonation or can be remote activated by a mobile transmitter."

"Something Merlyn could have on him," Oliver told them.

"Listen, if we can just get our hands on this transmitter, maybe we don't need to track down the device," Justin told them.

"It's too big of an 'if', Justin," Jill told him.

"John, Justin, I need you in the subway," Oliver told them. "Find the device, disarm it."

"So you can take on Merlyn by yourself?" John asked.

"He won't be by himself," Jill told them.

"Jill, I can't ask you to go fight him," Oliver told her. "He's beaten me twice. He's almost killed me both times. If it hadn't been for you, he would have. I don't know how to stop him."

"I do," Jill told him. Oliver looked at Jill. "Together. I can't let you do this by yourself. Oliver, you are not alone. I'm with you to the end. And I'm not asking."

Oliver relented, nodding, smiling a small smile. "I'm out of bows."

Jill shrugged. "I got my swords."

"So, we'll do the dismantling," Felicity told them.

"This whole area is ground zero," Justin told her. "I want you out of here."

"If you're not leaving, I'm not leaving," Felicity told him. "Besides, if we don't deactivate the device, who will?"

Jill thought for a moment, walking toward the phone on the table, calling Jessica with her voice disguised.

Jessica was still in the precinct, answering the phone. "You were right."

"I need one more thing from you," Jill told her.

"Yeah?" Jessica asked. "What do you need?"

"I know where Merlyn is keeping the device," Jill told her. "It's in an abandoned subway station near Puckett Street."

"How do you know?" Jessica asked.

"That's where his wife was murdered," Jill answered. "I need someone I can trust to deactivate the device. We need you to walk two mutual friends through it."

"Felicity and Justin Smoak say you and the hood care about the people of this city, that it needs both of you," Jessica told her.

"Right now, Detective... it needs you," Jill told her.

They hung up.

Jessica considered the fact that the city needed her, sighing deeply.

Night - The Glades


Everyone was running, trying to get out, screaming, yelling.




Roy's House - Living Room


Roy was watching the news.

Man: (on TV) "Earlier today, Moira Queen, CEO of Queen Consolidated admitted to a conspiracy to destroy the Glades. Everyone who's in a five mile radius is asked to evacuate. Please leave the area immediately. Evacuation centers have been set up in Starling City."




Outside


Roy walked out of his house, watching the running, screaming crowd.

Cars were driving, trying to get out.

Roy watched the crowd run for their lives.




On the Road


Jessica drove into the Glades toward the location Jill had given her, pulling over.




Outside


Jessica got out of her car into the drizzling rain, looking around. She ran toward the location, breaking down boards to get inside, walking through the broken wall to get into the subway tunnels.





On the Road


Oliver/Arrow and Jill/Sapphire were driving on a motorcycle with helmets on.




Merlyn Global Group - Malcolm's Office


Jill/Sapphire and Oliver/Arrow walked in, seeing the dead SWAT men on the floor.

"Looks like we missed him," Oliver told her.

Jill looked around.




Flashback

Night - Lian Yu - Soldier Camp


It was after dark at the soldier camp that had been blown apart by the missile.

Jill walked along through the debris. "Oliver! Shado! Slade!"

Oliver found a box with Yao Fei's bow and hood inside.

Slade started to laugh. "Girl, I should have figured." Jill walked closer. Slade stood. "You couldn't save the day, without making a mess."

"Where's Shado?" Jill asked.

"We thought she was with you," Oliver told her.

They heard Edward behind Jill. "Actually..." Oliver and Slade picked up their weapons. Jill turned around, holding a blade. Edward was restraining Shado from behind with a gun to her head. "She's with me."

"Let her go!" Slade told him. "It's over, Fyers!"

Oliver aimed his bow and arrow at Edward. "Let her go."

"Amazing," Edward told them. "A two year operation undone because a young girl who lost her family happened to wash up on the shore. And a young playboy is here now, a killer." He chuckled. "You wanted nothing more than to leave this island, and now you can. I can call in a rescue ship. You can go home. Tell me. Are you prepared to sacrifice your freedom... for her?"

Edward nodded to Shado.

Shado nodded to Oliver.

Oliver shot Edward in the head with the arrow, killing him. "Guess so."

Shado, Jill and Slade sighed in relief.

Jill turned to Oliver.




Now

Night - Merlyn Global Group - Malcolm's Office


Oliver and Jill were still suited up in Malcolm's office.

Jill heard someone groaning behind her, drawing her sword from the sheath on her back, turning around, seeing Tommy lying on the floor. "Tommy?"

Oliver pulled back his hood, walking toward Tommy, kneeling next to him. "Tommy. Tommy!"

Tommy looked up. "Oliver. Jill."

"Where's your father?" Oliver asked.

Tommy groaned in pain, shaking his head. "I don't know. You were right. You were right about him."

Jill looked around. "Oliver."

"Are you going to kill him?" Tommy asked.

Oliver didn't answer. "Get to safety."

Oliver stood, walking toward Jill, pulling up his hood.

Tommy stood, walking out, leaving.

Jill checked the nearby wall. "Looks like a false wall."




Hidden Room


Jill opened the door, walking in.

Malcolm/Dark Archer was inside in what looked like a training room, without his hood up, standing nearby two swords on the table at the back of the room. "Welcome, Oliver. Hello, Jill. I've been waiting for you. I wanted to see you watch your city die."

"Where's the transmitter?" Jill asked angrily.

"Somewhere I can easily get to it," Malcolm answered.

"I doubt it," Oliver told him. "You're going to be too dead."

Oliver tried to shoot Malcolm with his bow and arrow. Malcolm took cover, trying to shoot Jill with an arrow. Jill ducked to the side, running toward Malcolm. Malcolm aimed his bow at her. Jill pushed her sword up against his bow, pushing it up to the ceiling to make the arrow shoot the ceiling instead of herself, stabbing him in the shoulder with a knife. Malcolm kicked Jill back into the wall. Oliver used his bow to hit Malcolm in the back. Malcolm grabbed a sword from the nearby table, using his bow to hit Oliver with one arm, trying to slash toward Jill with a sword with the other. Jill used her sword to block the move, pushing it against him to push him against the table, slamming his head against it. Malcolm kicked Jill to make her let go. Oliver used his bow to hit him in the head. Jill hit Malcolm in the head with the hilt of her sword. Malcolm kicked Oliver onto the table, trying to stab him with his sword. Jill slashed his arm with her sword, making him drop it, spinning to elbow him in the face. Malcolm picked up his sword, hitting Jill in the stomach with his bow, stabbing Oliver with the sword in the shoulder, using the distraction to run out of the room.




Rooftop 


Jill/Sapphire and Oliver/Arrow ran out onto the rooftop.

Malcolm/The Dark Archer was waiting for them, with the hood up.

Jill glared at him, drawing her other sword from her sheath, spinning both swords in her grasp.

Malcolm tried to shoot them both with two arrows.

Jill used her swords to to cut the arrows in half, making them fall.

"So, tell me," Malcolm told them. "Are you ready to die?"

Jill and Oliver glared at him.




Subway Tunnels 


Jessica was looking through the tunnels by flashlight, meeting up with Justin and John.

"You found it yet?" Justin asked.

"Not exactly sure what I'm looking for," John admitted.

They walked past the tracks, finding the machine, looking at it in shock.

John and Justin were looking over the machine.

"You  should see something that looks like a circuit board," Jessica told them. "Pull it out." Justin pulled the circuit board out. Jessica shone the light onto it. "Do you see a timer?"

John looked around, finding the timer. "Seven minutes."

Jessica nodded. "Okay. Well, the good news is, this is going to be paperweight in three."




Streets


Those of the ones that weren't running for their lives were breaking into stores and attacking people.

Skylar ran through the street.

Three men cornered Skylar in the street alley.

"What do you got there, sweetheart?" Man 1 asked.

"Hey, back off," Skylar told them. "You don't want to mess with me."

"Learn how to count," Man 2 told her. "There's three of us."

Skylar nodded sarcastically. "Oh, is that right?" Man 3 ran toward Skylar, trying to restrain her. Skylar broke free from his grasp, punching Man 2 in the face, slamming his head into the brick wall next to them. Man 3 tried to restrain Skylar from behind. Skylar grabbed his arms, flipping him over her head onto Man 2's back in front of them, making them both fall. She looked at Man 1, dusting off her hands. "'Cause I only count one."

Man 1 drew a gun, aiming it at Skylar. "With a gun."

A glass bottle was thrown against Man 1's head, making him fall unconscious.

Thea walked closer, the one who had thrown the bottle.

Skylar looked at her in surprise. "Where did you learn how to do that?"

Thea was just as shocked as she was. "I guess I have wicked aim."

Skylar walked closer in relief. "What?"

"I went to CNRI," Thea told her. 

"Yeah, I figured I'd run for my life with everyone else," Skylar told her. "Did you--did you come to rescue me?"

Thea nodded. "Yeah." The sisters embraced in relief. "I can't find Roy."

They pulled away.

"Come on," Skylar told her. "Let's go find him."

Skylar and Thea held hands, running down the street.




Merlyn Global Group - Rooftop


The fight between Oliver/Arrow, Jill/Sapphire and Malcolm/The Dark Archer continued.

Malcolm shot several arrows toward them.

Jill used her swords to cut them all in half.

Oliver shot at Malcolm.

Malcolm ducked, running closer, dropping his bow, drawing his sword, slashing toward Jill. Jill ducked, sliding across the roof behind him, turning to slash both of her swords into his legs, making him fall to his knees. Malcolm raised his sword to slash down into Jill's head. Jill raised her swords up in an X to block the move, pushing his sword away with enough force to make him fall to the ground. Malcolm stood, turning to try and slash into Oliver with his sword. Oliver used his bow to block the move, using it to hit him in the face, kicking him in the stomach, making him double over. Malcolm tried to slash into him. Oliver ducked, grabbing his arm, flipping him to the ground, trying to shoot him with an arrow. Malcolm caught the arrow before it impaled his face. The bolt on the arrow exploded, making Malcolm fall to the ground.

Jill stood.




Subway Tunnels 


John and Justin were working on disabling the device.

Jessica was talking them through it. "There are three wires. You need a green one, a yellow and one blue. Cut the blue."

"All right, we got it, we got it," John told her, cutting the blue wire.

There was a beeping and whirring.

Jessica looked at the timer, seeing that less than three minutes remained. "Oh, my God."

The device continued to whir.

Justin walked around the device, trying to shut it down. "No, no, no, no, no!"

"There must be some sort of anti-tamper safeguard," Jessica told them worriedly. 

"There's always a way around it," Justin told them. He put his finger to the ear comm in his ear. "Felicity, find the workaround."

"There's not enough time," John told them. "Not enough time!"

Felicity was in the hideout at the computers, typing away. "Hang on."

Jessica repeated what John said. "Not enough time." Her phone rang. She pulled it out, answering. "Dad." Laurel and Lance were in CNRI, getting everyone out, talking to Jessica over the phone. "Don't worry. I'm not in the Glades."

"Save it, kiddo, we both know you're in the Glades trying to figure out how to stop this," Lance told her.

"Listen, you got to get out of the Glades," Jessica told them. "You got to get out of the Glades right now. Okay? Please."

Laurel paused worriedly. "Jess?"

"Right now, Laurel," Jessica told her. "Dad, right now, please."

"Jessie, you're scaring me," Laurel told her.

Jessica was breathing heavily, tears in her eyes. "I'm sorry. But I'm not... I'm not going to make it."

"What?" Lance asked.

Laurel had tears in her eyes. "What?"

"You have to promise me one thing," Jessica told them. "You're not going to die along with me." Lance and Laurel were as emotional as Jessica was. "You have to go on with your lives. Promise me you're not gonna make the same mistakes I did."

"Where are you?" Lance asked worriedly.

Jessica closed her eyes, shedding a few tears. "Promise me, Dad. Laurel, promise me."

Laurel was crying, nodding. "I promise."

Jessica was breathing heavily in emotion, putting a hand over her mouth so they couldn't hear, looking down, taking a moment to compose herself. "I love you. Now and forever."

"We love you," Lance told her. Jessica hung up. "Jessica!"

Justin and John had listened to Jessica's side of the conversation solemnly.

"Jessica?" Justin asked. "Felicity found the other way."




On the Road - Car


Skylar was driving a stolen car.

Thea was in the passenger seat, texting on her phone.

"What are you doing?" Skylar asked.

"I'm texting Roy, seeing where he is," Thea answered. They found a car wreck up ahead. Skylar had to stop driving to stop from crashing. Thea saw Roy helping the people involved in the wreck. "Roy?"




Outside


Thea and Skylar got out of the car, running toward Roy.

"Roy!" Thea told him. "Roy! What are you doing? The device is about to go off any second."

Skylar looked at the people in the wreck. "I can't leave anyone behind."

Thea looked at Roy and Skylar with tears in her eyes. "I know you think you have something to prove. But you're not the vigilantes."

Roy put his hands on her cheeks. "I can't do this unless I know you're safe."

"Then you better haul ass out of here," Thea told them.

Roy nodded. Thea and Roy kissed passionately in the middle of the street where people were running for their lives, pulling away, leaning their heads together.

Thea got into the car, driving away.

Skylar watched her go, running to the car and bus wreck to get the people out.




Merlyn Global Group - Rooftop


The fight between Oliver/Arrow, Jill/Sapphire and Malcolm/The Dark Archer continued.

Malcolm stood, slashing his sword toward Jill. Jill used a sword to block the move. Malcolm slashed toward her. Jill ducked, spinning to kick him in the stomach, spinning once again to slash toward him. Malcolm ducked, raising his sword to stab her. Jill raised both her swords to block the move. Oliver shot an arrow into Malcolm's arm, making him drop the sword. Jill spun to kick Malcolm in the back, making him fall to the roof and roll over toward Oliver. Oliver kicked Malcolm twice, making him roll away. Malcolm stood. Jill ran toward Malcolm, jumping up to wrap her legs around his neck, flipping him to the ground, landing in a crouch next to him. Malcolm grabbed his sword from the roof next to him, stabbing it into Jill's arm.

Tommy walked out onto the roof.

Oliver ran closer, pulling the sword out of Jill's arm and twisting Malcolm into a back bend to try and snap his neck. Malcolm twisted out of the grip, stabbing the sword into Jill's stomach.

Oliver grew angry and horrified. "No!"

"Dad!" Tommy told him.

Jill gasped in pain, breathing heavily, coughing up blood, trying to pull the sword out of her stomach.

"Don't struggle," Malcolm told her. Oliver aimed his bow and arrow at Malcolm. Malcolm walked around to stand behind Jill, lifting her up to her feet to hold her life as leverage against Oliver. "There was never any doubt in the outcome. Don't worry. You'll be reunited with your family in death."

"Dad, no!" Tommy told him.

Malcolm looked at Tommy expressionlessly.

Jill grew furious, driving the sword deeper into her stomach out through her back to stab Malcolm in the stomach, making him let go of her and fall to the ground. She fell to her knees weakly.

Oliver walked closer to Malcolm angrily. "Thank you for teaching me what I'm fighting for. But my father taught me how."

Oliver hit Malcolm in the head with his bow, making him fall.

Tommy was in shock.




Subway Tunnels


John, Justin and Jessica were still working dismantling the device.

The lights on the device powered down.

They looked at each other in relief, looking down.




Merlyn Global Group - Rooftop


Jill was kneeling on the rooftop, the sword still running her through. She coughed up blood, gasping for breath. "Ollie..."

Oliver knelt in front Jill, propping her up. "Hey. Hey, it's okay." He grabbed the hilt of the sword in her stomach. "Ready?" Jill nodded quickly. "One, two..."

Oliver pulled the sword out of Jill's stomach, making her gasp in pain.

Tommy ran closer. "Jill?"

"Help me get her out of here," Oliver told him.

Tommy nodded.

They heard Felicity's voice through comms. "Guys, Lance did it."

Tommy looked at Malcolm angrily. "It's over."

"If I've learned anything as a successful businessman, it's..." Malcolm trailed off, coughing up blood. "Redundancy."

Tommy knew what he meant, horrified. "Oliver... Jill... there's another device. There's two of them."




Subway Tunnels 


The other device powered on, touching the ground.

The entirety of the Glades started to shake.




Street


John, Justin and Jessica made it out to the street, struggling to stay standing with the rest of the people in the street.

"What the hell's happening?" Jessica asked, nearly falling.

John and Justin helped Jessica stand.




CNRI Office


The building was shaking.

Lance walked toward Laurel. "Okay, that's enough. Let's get out of here."




Verdant - Basement


The hideout was only shaking a little.

Felicity was crying in fear.




Streets


Roy and Skylar were still helping the people out of the bus and car wrecks.

The streets were shaking.

Skylar looked around in horror.




Malcolm Global Group - Rooftop 


Tommy and Oliver/Arrow helped Jill/Sapphire walk toward the door leading inside.

The Glades was still shaking and rumbling.

Tommy, Jill and Oliver watched in horror as buildings in the distance fell to the ground.

The Glades were still shaking and rumbling.

Light posts were falling, creating explosions.

Buildings were still concaving.

John looked at Justin and Jessica. "We turned the damn thing off!"

Felicity spoke to them through comms from the hideout. "Merlyn had a second device."

Jessica looked around worriedly. "My dad. Laurel. They're at CNRI."

Jessica ran toward CNRI.




CNRI Office


Lance and Laurel were getting the others out of the office.

"Run!" Laurel told them.

Lance and Laurel made it out of the office.




Streets


John and Justin were making their way through the crowds, running to save people.

Felicity spoke to them through comms from the hideout. "Justin?"

"Are you okay?" Justin asked.

Felicity nodded, closing her eyes, crying. "Yeah." The building shook a bit, making her gasp. "The damage seems to be contained on the east side, past Wells Street."




Elsewhere


Laurel and Lance watched as the building of CNRI fall to pieces.

Jessica ran toward them. "Dad! Laurel!"

Laurel ran closer. "Jess! Jessie!"

The sisters ran into an embrace, crying in relief.

Lance held both his daughters in relief. "Oh, thank God."




Elsewhere


Skylar and Roy had gotten everyone out of the wreckage, running with them down the street.

John and Justin were down the street, walking closer.

John stopped down the way.

Justin walked closer in confusion. "Skylar?"

Skylar stopped where she was, turning around at the sound of his voice, looking at him in relief. "Justin!"

Skylar ran into Justin's arms, embracing him.

After a moment, they pulled away.

Justin looked at her in confusion, stunned. "You stayed here to save them from the wreckage?"

Skylar nodded, breathing heavily. "I couldn't leave them to die."

Justin chuckled in surprise, exhausted. "You really are a hero, Skylar Queen."

Justin and Skylar kissed passionately in the street with people running for their lives around them, explosions and buildings falling down in the distance, pulling away. Justin took her by the hand, leading her out of the street into safety.




Merlyn Global Group - Foyer


Tommy and Oliver/Arrow helped Jill/Sapphire inside to get them to the ground outside.

The building was falling apart around them.

Tommy saw rubble falling toward them, pushing themout of the way.

The debris fell onto Tommy, making him fall, pinning him down.

Oliver crawled closer, starting to pull the rubble away. "Tommy. You're going to be fine."

"Another thing... we got to disagree on," Tommy told them.

Jill started to pull the debris away.

A pipe had been stabbed into Tommy's chest.

Oliver and Jill were horrified.

"Tommy..." Oliver trailed off.

"I'm gonna die," Tommy told them.

Jill shook her head. "No, you're not. We're going to get you out of here. You're going to be fine."

Oliver and Jill tried to find a way to pull him up without hurting him more.

"Stop," Tommy told them. "I'm sorry."

Oliver started to cry, shaking his head. "No. Don't apologize."

"I was angry," Tommy told them. "I... I am my father."

Jill shook her head. "No. No, you're not."

"You didn't kill him," Tommy told them. "Thank you."

Tommy drifted off.

"No," Jill told him.

"No!" Oliver told him. Jill put her hand over her mouth in horror, tears in her eyes. Tommy died in front of them. "Tommy. Open your eyes, Tommy! Open your eyes."

The building continued to shake and come down around them.

"Oliver," Jill told him. Oliver stood, backing away toward Jill. Debris continued to fall, nearly hitting Oliver. "Ollie!"

Oliver ducked out of the way, making the debris hit the wall. He picked Jill off the ground, carrying her out into the destroyed Glades.
