In Geography, a while ago, we had to write an account of an earthquake event - and I thought I could put it on here.

My heart hammered violently inside my chest. No, I thought. It can't be. I had heard tales of minor earthquakes, but I could already tell that this was going to be a big one. I stumbled across the dark room and fumbled for the light switch, though the lights just ended up flickering on and off creepily. I heard the screams from above again which made my ears hurt and a headache to add to my list of problems. Wonderful. First an earthquake, then a headquake.

The walls started to crumble around me, bits of plaster from the ceiling lodging themselves in my hair and clothes. A sound like thunder vibrated through the building, making me lose my footing and crumple into a heap onto the floor, twisting my ankle in the process. It hurt like someone was hammering a nail into it. To make matters worse, a chunk of the ceiling crashed down on top of my legs, rendering them useless.

I dragged myself to the open doorway and to the top of the staircase. I stopped. How the heck would I get down?  I hesitated, then swung my legs round to the slide down the steps leg first. Unfortunately, another tremor, stronger than the last, catapulted me down harshly to the bottom stair, my body aching with every move and effort I made.

Using all my upper body strength (which wasn't much), I pulled myself out the front door into the street. I kept my head down, knowing I would probably get distracted. A third tremor caused me to lose my balance.

I looked around in shock.

My whole neighbourhood had been reduced to rubble and ruins.

I just lay there, panting frantically.

A large shadow loomed over me; I slowly turned to look. Time seemed to stop, every single sound seemed to disappear. In a terrified try to reach safety, I lunged forward but...

The whole building crashed onto me, and I was consumed by the darkness.
