Chapter 13

"Everyone line up in a single file line... don't even think of escaping, there's no way out."

The group of girls watched from a distance at the new prisoners... and of course, Mario and Rosalina, ordering them around.

"More already?" Saiko murmured. "Those two must really be going to town."

"I can't believe there's already more of us," Utari folded her arms. "Have we always existed like this?"

"I believe it's anyone with a special birthmark," Killia interjected. "Anyone. And there's a lot of people with birthmarks."

"I wonder if people like us existed before this prison," Tsuki closed her eyes. "I'm sure they have, I wonder if any of them knew..."

"It's just that now everyone's just being rounded up..." Utari muttered. "This isn't fair. I was living what I considered a normal life before this. I didn't even know I had magic. Then they rip us from our homes and expect us to be okay with fighting every day for our lives..."

"They do it so we don't accidentally hurt someone," Satsuki frowned. "If your birthmark is in an obvious place and the skin is broken, your powers are exposed. They just don't want us to be examined and put to death. It's like a safe haven for us, kinda."

"A safe haven where we have to fight to the death?" Killia raised her brow. "I don't think so."

"I think they brainwashed you," Scarlet added. "I mean-"

"I haven't been brainwashed!" Satsuki scowled. "This is just how I see it, okay?"

The rest of the group shrugged, and let it be. They weren't trying to start an argument, even if it would be a five vs one fight.

"Anyway," Tsuki tried to bring light to the situation. "I've got a new trick for my next arena fight, and I'm pretty excited to use it."

"Sweet," Saiko muttered. "My water doesn't do much against them, to be honest."

"You think yours is bad?" Utari questioned. "Try mine. It doesn't work against any monsters. How fair is that? It's only against humans, and few at that."

"Dunno what you guys are complaining about," Killia muttered. "Mine works fine."

"Yeah, we're all good over here!" Satsuki cheered. "But I'm sure you two will find uses for your power in the arena fights soon enough."

"Yeah, you're right.."

"Why'd they put you in here? They told me I was in trouble for shoplifting," A girl with cream colored hair asked quietly. "Which I would never do, by the way. I'm innocent as they come..."

"Hmm... they probably put me here because I deserve it," A white haired female with yellow eyes replied. "My name's Luna, by the way."

"I'm Hikari," The girl responded, her pink eyes staring innocently at Luna. "I uh... I really don't know what I did to deserve this... I've done nothing wrong."

"I don't actually know why I'm here," Luna shrugged. "I haven't done anything horrible in awhile."

"I just want to go home," Hikari responded. "Although I'm not even sure where home is anymore..."

"I beg your pardon?"

"My real family and my family that adopted me.." Hikari explained. "They used to fight over me all the time, until I was thrown in here."

"Ah.. I see."

"You don't find that weird?"

"Why should it be?" Luna questioned. "They both just want their sibling."

"Oh.. well, thanks. I just figured most people would find it crazy, so I never really tell anyone," Hikari smiled. "But I figured that since i... actually, I don't know why I told you."

"Well, it's hard for most people to," Luna shrugged. "It's part of my power that I got, heh. Not exactly sure why, but people have to be honest around me. It's basically just that no one can lie to me, which helps me gather information."

"That's actually really cool," Hikari replied. "I have no idea what mine is... I'm not sure I want to find out."

"Based on what's going on around here, I bet you'll want to know."

"Whoa! Her hair is so- it's so white!" Satsuki's jaw dropped. "That's so cool! Oh my gosh, I want white hair! Wish I got white and not red..."

"I think your red hair suits you," Saiko murmured. "I can't picture you with anything else. Besides, you don't want to look like a grandma, do you?"

"Wh-? She doesn't look like a grandma!" Satsuki argued. "I think she looks very nice!"

"Grandma's can look nice," Saiko countered. "Assumingely. I've never seen a grandma, so..."

"Well..." Satsuki scratched the back of her neck. "Maybe we will, eventually. Hehe!"

"Wow, this is how pathetic we are," Saiko shook her head. "Hoping to see a grandma.."

"Well, we don't see many people," Satsuki reminded her. "We've never even seen anyone old here."

"I wonder how long an elder would last in here," Saiko muttered. "Can you imagine them being put against these monsters..."

"Yeesh... well, let's just hope it never happens. It would be sad to watch."

"Yeah, you're right there."
