3.6 | The Rocket

Capítulo VI- El Cohete

Chase swung the front door open. Adam, Bree, and Patience followed behind him entering the Davenport-Dooley mansion. "Man, I'm exhausted," Chase threw his backpack on the floor. "Perry's been nagging me all day about going on a mission. 'Ooh, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme.'"

"What's up, mission buds?" Perry asked coming in through the hall. She clung to her backpack over one shoulder and the other hand was hidden behind her back.

Their eyebrows furrowed at the unwelcomed older woman. Bree set her hands on her hips, "What are you doing here? How did you get in our house?"

    "I used the doggie door."

Chase eyed Perry, "We don't have a doggy door."

She revealed her hidden hand, holding up a saw, "You do now," Perry laughed. She set her things on the singular couch cushion beside her. "So, when are we going on our mission?"

"Principal Perry," Patience stepped forward, "Missions don't happen every day. They just come whenever."

     "That's cool. I'll wait."

Bree shot at Perry, "You can't stay here."

"Au contraire, Cinderfrella. I can do whatever I want. And if that means waiting here for six months until a mission comes up, so be it?" Principal Perry took the remote from the glass coffee table and made herself comfortable on the couch. "Delete all recordings? Yes!" The four teens gasped. "Might as well get comfortable. You kids wanna help me with a perm?"

     Adam agreed, "Sure!"

"No!" Bree sternly said. Perry rose from her spot and traveled to the kitchen with her small bag. "This ends now," she faced Adam, Chase, and Patience.

Patience crossed her arms, "What are we gonna do? You can't take Principal Perry on a mission. Leo and I can't even go on missions."

"Then let's take her on a fake one. We'll blindfold her, say we're at some remote site, and just take her down to the lab and Patience could stay up here and 'guide the mission'."

Patience's eyes widened, "What? We can't do that."

"No. No!" Chase quietly refused. "You know Mr. Davenport's rules. No outsiders in the lab ever."

Perry stuck her head out the sink, water ran down her face, and with her eyes shut she asked, "Who wants to help me with my hard-to-reach spots?"

Bree crossed her arms sending Chase and Patience a look. They glanced at each other and then at Bree both saying, "We're in."

Patience laid on the couch with a tablet in her hand. Before their 'mission' began, Adam, Bree, and Chase told Patience what to say considering her past of terrible lies. Mr. Davenport's security system allowed Patience to see everything inside the lab, her comm set was in her ear ready to speak to Adam, Bree, Chase, and Principal Perry.

They entered the lab and Chase held onto Perry to help her around because of the blindfold they forced her to wear. "Alright, here we are," Adam announced.

"Whoa, we got to the mission site fast," Perry smiled.

"Uh, yeah, that's 'cause we took a hyperloop. It moves at the speed of sound." Chase let go of Perry.

"I know. This isn't my first teen spy mission. Why am I blindfolded?"

"'Cause, we're bionic. Your human eyes can't take the radiation of the hyperloop."

"What about the rest of my body?"

Bree scoffed, "You're on your own with that."

Chase removed Perry's blindfold and tossed it aside. She opened her eyes and gasped, taking in her surroundings, "Where are we? Are we in space?"

"Uh, we're at an enemy base on the other side of-" Chase snapped his fingers to capture Perry's attention, "We're at an enemy base on the other side of the world."

Patience explained, "You guys have to tap into their computers to get valuable information. I could only go past their security system."

"Oh," Perry slowly nodded. "Where's my uniform?"

"Uh, you don't get one," Adam acknowledged. "The tailor says no last-minute suits."

"Okay, so what do I do? If a bad guy shows up," Perry picked up the weapon on the cyber desk, "I call dibs on wastin' him."

"No!" Bree and Patience shouted. "No, no, no. We don't waste people," Bree snatched the weapon from Perry's hands.

Chase pushed Perry by Leo and Patience's mission specialist desks, "Just stand guard."

Perry groaned. She fixed her blazer, "Got it. Don't worry, when they see me, they'll run."

Bree hummed, "I don't doubt that."

Perry picked up a device off Leo's desk. Chase took it away from her, "Look, look, just sit- Stop-" she dropped another device. "Sit down, and stop touching stuff," Chase demanded.

"Hey, I'm on a mission now, too. I don't have to take any-"

"Sit down!" Everyone yelled at her.

"Fine!" Perry slammed the desk and slumped down, resting her arms on the desk. She tucked her head into her arms, pouting like a child.

As Adam, Bree, and Chase pretended to download sensitive information Patience drunk out of her water. It was a good idea they took Perry on a fake mission because of her insolent behavior-

Electric sparks brought Patience back to the tablet. They erupted from Leo's desk. Patience sat up, "What happened?"

"Perry spilled juice all over the console." Chase fumed, scolding Perry, "That's a brand new console."

Perry asked, "So what? It's not yours. What do you care?"

"Because If we leave the place a mess," Chase pointed at it, "we're no better than they are." The bionic siblings grabbed paper towels to clean up Perry's mess.

"Oh, ooh! Live satellite feed. Let's pull up the school." Perry walked over to one of the cyberdesk, "I wanna see if the sheriffs are still sniffin' around for me."

"Guys, she's touching stuff again," Patience informed.

Adam, Bree, and Chase turned around. Perry clicked an unknown button and the alarm went off. "What was that?" questioned Bree.

Perry raised her arms in surrender and stepped away, "I didn't do it."

Chase panicked, "Guys, she just activated Mr. Davenport's defense program and fired a rocket at Mission Creek High."

"Hey, what a coincidence. We go there," Adam pointed at the screen.

Patience's eyes widened, "Tonight's the basketball state championship, Leo's on a date there with Janelle. The whole school is packed with people."

Adam shook his head, "Oh, two disasters in one night. Poor Leo."

"Okay, what's really goin' on here?" Perry questioned.

"Principal Perry, we're not at an enemy base. We're actually in our lab, which is in the basement of our house and Patience is upstairs our living room," Bree confessed.

"Oh, you tricked me?" Perry stomped. "I hate being tricked. Do you know how many magicians I've made disappear?"

"I'm going down there to try and stop the rocket," Patience said. She turned off the tablet and set it on the coffee table. She rushed to the elevator doors and zipped to the lab.

Bree held Perry back from lunging at Eddy's monitor. "Principal Perry, focus, focus. There is a rocket headed toward our school, and we have to stop it."

"No, not the school! All my wrestling equipment is in there!"

"How much time is there before it hits the school?" Patience jogged over to Chase.

"We only have four minutes until this thing hits. Mr. Davenport redesigned everything about this lab. I can't figure out how to stop it."

Patience glanced at the console below her, nothing clicked. The only thing she saw was a bunch of different colored buttons. Mr. Davenport never showed her and Leo anything about the rocket system. The girl sighed, "I only know enough to get around."

"This is the kind of crisis that calls for a chilled beverage." Adam bitterly stared ahead, "Oh, wait."

Chase and Patience pressed the buttons they thought would stop the rocket, but they slipped up and an alarm blared and red lights blinked. The lab doors locked and Bree asked, "What was that? What just happened?"

"Your mission leader and specialist just put you on lockdown. Now no one can get in or out. Well, except me," Eddy mocked. "Later, losers." His screen shut off.

"We've gotta call Leo and tell everyone to get out of there." Bree withdrew her phone from her pocket. She raised it to get a signal.

Patience gently put Bree's hand down, "It won't work, the lockdown is blocking any signal."

Adam furrowed his eyebrows, "Multi-million dollar makeover and he couldn't install a landline? Genius, my butt." He took a closer look at the screen, "Man, I'm gonna miss that school. Well, I should get to bed, it's a school night."

Patience grasped Adam and pulled him back. Pounding on the lab doors jumped scared the group of five. "What's going on in there?" Mr. Davenport yelled.

"Finally! Mr. Davenport's here," Bree's face brightened. She, Chase, and Patience ran to the lab doors.

"Wait!" Adam called out. The three stopped in their tracks. "It could be a trap."

They dismissed him and proceeded to the lab doors. "Hey, Mr. Davenport. Don't worry. Everything is fine," Chase falsely assured.

"Of course it is. That's why I got an alert on my phone that the lab is on lockdown! What's going on?" Mr. Davenport exclaimed.

"Um, Principal Perry might've sent your new rocket system to hit our high school," Patience sheepishly clasped her hands in front of her and pursed her lips.

     "Perry!"

"Hi, Don." Perry turned to patience mouthing, "What!"

Patience said, "It's gonna hit the school what am I supposed to do?"

Mr. Davenport commanded, "Nobody touch anything. I'm gonna try and hack my way into my own security program. It's not accepting my override command. Why did I have to design it so perfectly?"

Bree crossed her arms across her chest, "Wow, even in a crisis, that ego does not quit."

"Adam, would you mind using your strength to destroy my brand-new lab doors!" Mr. Davenport seethed.

Adam stood in a fighting stance ready to strike the doors. Patience didn't notice Perry leave and ran back with a weapon in her hands. "Back up, jumbo. I got this."

Bree, Chase, and Patience shouted, "No!"

     Meanwhile, Adam shouted, "Yes!"

Perry took her shot and the beam rebutted off the lab to Perry. She was thrown back to desks and accidentally turned off the lockdown. The lab doors opened revealing Mr. Davenport, he flounced towards Perry.

Adam chuckled, "Wow, she opened it. Maybe we should add her to the team."

Patience strode to her mission specialist desk. She opened a drawer unveiling the first aid products. She kept them there to patch up Adam, Bree, and Chase for their mission, usually it wouldn't be anything too severe if they were treated properly.

Patience bent the instant ice pack in her hands, cracking the tubes in the pack to instantly freeze. Perry's drowsy eyes followed Patience, she placed the pack on Principal Perry's head. Perry pressed it against her head.

Mr. Davenport typed on the console, "I should be able to shut down the rocket remotely from here. I just have to switch everything to the satellite feed."

     Principal Perry laughed, "Satellite feed."

Patience waved her hand in front of Perry, "Principal Perry are you okay?"

"Course, I'm okay." She set the ice pack on the desk and Perry gasped, glancing at Mr. Davenport, "Mr. Whiskers. Come to mama." She reached for Mr. Davenport.

"Get her off me. Get her off me! How could you let her down here? She's shedding." Mr. Davenport pulled her off.

Patience dragged her brand new swivel chair away from her desk. "Okay, Principal Perry, come on," Patience helped her walk to the chair. "Stay here."

"You are all grounded forever! Times three times pi!" Mr. Davenport waved his arms. "The rocket's too close to its target. I can't stop it from here."

Patience glimpsed at the monitor, the rocket was thousands of feet away from hitting their school. Bree asked, "Chase, can't you slow it down with your molecular kinesis?"

"Not something that big traveling that fast."

"It's only three minutes from its target. We have to evacuate that school. Adam, Bree, go!" Mr. Davenport directed.

Adam said, "Is it too much to ask for a please?"

     "Go!" Mr. Davenport's fists clenched.

"Come on," Bree grabbed Adam and super sped them out of the lab.

"You think they can do it?" Chase asked Mr. Davenport.

     "They're our only hope."

Chase and Patience's sullen eyes met one another. She sent him a hopeful tight smile, doing her best to ignore the negative thoughts that invaded her mind. The trust she had in Adam, Bree, and Chase was undeniable, but everyone had intrusive thoughts slithering through every now and then.

Patience linked her arm with Chase's and leaned her head on his shoulder, comfort for him and for her. Patience's hand traveled down his forearm to reach his hand. However, before she could hold his hand, Principal Perry stumbled to Mr. Davenport.

She wrapped her arms behind him, "Mr. Whiskers, time for a rubby-rub-rub on your tummy-tum-tum." Mr. Davenport released himself from her. "Mr. Whiskers! Mr. Whiskers!" she chased him.

Patience let go of Chase, "We should probably help him."

"I kinda wanna see what happens," Chase shrugged.

"Come on," Patience trailed behind Perry and Mr. Davenport.

Perry held a strong grip on Mr. Davenport. He grimaced, "She's touching. She's touching!"

Patience grabbed Perry by the shoulders, "Okay, Principal Perry. That isn't Mr. Whiskers that's Mr. Davenport! Mr. Whiskers is at your house along with your other cats." She and Chase tugged on Perry to pry her off. They grunted unable to pull the woman off of Mr. Davenport.

With one last forceful pull, Perry's hands were off of Mr. Davenport. Patience set her hands on Perry's shoulders. Her empty dilated eyes slowly decreased in size. "Are you okay?" Chase asked.

Perry nodded, "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"

Mr. Davenport, Chase, and Patience gave each other confused glances not bothering to raise any more questions. Mr. Davenport cringed shaking himself and advanced back to the desk. They jogged over as well to check on the rocket.

Mr. Davenport pointed at the screen, "Look, something's hurtling towards the rocket."

Perry squinted her eyes, leaning towards the monitor, "Huh. That looks like my new car." She shoved Mr. Davenport out of the way getting closer to the screen. "That is my new car!"

Adam threw Perry's new red car into the sky, it collided with the rocket causing an explosion in the air. Mr. Davenport, Chase, and Patience jumped up, "Yes!" In the heat of the moment, Chase and Patience quickly hugged. The two parted and high-fived Mr. Davenport in success.

Adam, Bree, Chase, and Patience, later on, brought Perry down to the lab again. A blindfold covered her line of sight as Patience guided her to the lab. "So, it's an actual mission this time?" Perry questioned.

"No, we're going on a pancake run," Chase sarcastically said.

     "Yes!"

     "No, calm down. I'm kidding."

Adam lowered himself to her level, "We're in dangerous enemy territory somewhere in a place called new labistan." He smiled going to high-five Chase, but unimpressed Chase ignored him. Patience jumped up to high-five Adam.

Patience removed Perry's blindfold and stood beside Adam, Bree, and Chase. "Hey, this looks just like the place we were at last time."

"Really? Does this look the same?" Bree clicked a button on the tablet in her hands.

The floor below Perry's feet opened, she screamed falling down the compartmentalized lab floors. "Hey, there's a mini-fridge down here.

Patience smiled, "Ha! I knew I added it to the list."
