3.5 | New Lab

Capítulo V- Nuevo laboratorio

Patience's shiny teeth showed off as her broad smile plastered on her lips. Mr. Davenport, Leo, and Patience worked together to design the lab after the success of the jet-wing and after long days it was finished. Patience was ready to burst holding in the excitement.

They entered through the dim purple-hued exit hall and Mr. Davenport danced around singing, "I got a new lab, I got a new lab. I got a new lab."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa," Bree stopped him. "I think you mean, we got a new lab."

"Excuse me. Did we pay to rebuild it?"

"Do you sleep in a glass box?"

Mr. Davenport paused. He jumped and sang, "We got a new lab, we got a new lab." Chase, Leo, and Patience joined Mr. Davenport's dance. "And, here it is." He pressed the button on his tablet and the lab doors opened.

They stepped into the new lab awestruck. Hive patterned columns on the walls illuminated the lab and in between were solid white square patterns. On their right were three monitors filled with information about Adam, Bree, and Chase's bionic structure.

Their bigger capsules were adjacent to the monitors having the same hive-like pattern on the smooth glass. Far in front of the capsules were two cyber desks with one retractable monitor and another cyber desk by the main entrance.

"Guys, look at all these upgrades. Mr. Davenport, this place is amazing," Chase complimented.

Mr. Davenport put an elbow on Leo's shoulder, "Of course it is. I designed it."

Leo and Patience whipped their heads to Mr. Davenport. "Ahem!" Leo cleared his throat.

"Fine. We designed it! We, we!" Mr. Davenport huffed, irritatingly motioning at the brand new lab. "Upgraded capsules, bam! Quantum processing supercomputer, bam! Four-dimensional combat simulator, bam! This, my friends, is what a multi-million dollar makeover looks like."

"Is there a mini-fridge?" Adam asked.

     "No."

Patience furrowed her eyebrows, "Really? I thought I added it to the list?"

     "We don't need a mini-fridge."

Adam turned his head and mumbled to Chase, "I bet our real dad's lab has a mini-fridge."

Bree rested her hands on her hips, "Hey, Leo, Patience, where are your workstations?"

Leo took the tablet from Mr. Davenport, "This way, children." Leo led them near the retractable desks. He clicked the button and two desks popped out of the ground. "The floor in the lab is compartmentalized."

Patience took a seat on her desk, "Now, we could store things and save space, and Leo and I have separate desks."

"Well, it was about time, her plants had pollen all over our desk."

Patience glanced at Leo, "But I kept it clean as much I could." Patience gasped making eye contact with Chase, "I almost forgot," she rose and pointed at the object across the room.

Chase paused and asked, "Is that a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer?" He jumped and rushed over to it.

"Mhm," Patience hummed, clasping her hands behind her back. She pursed her lips containing the smile as his eyes sparkled eyeing the nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer.

"I've never seen one in person before." Chase's hands hovered over the top of the circular device, "It's so beautiful."

Adam grimaced, "Should we leave you two alone."

Chase sheepishly removed his hands from the device. Patience nudged Adam to let Chase be, the reason she pointed out the device was because she knew he would geek out seeing it. Although Patience wouldn't understand what Chase would be talking about, she enjoyed seeing the way his eyes lightened talking about scientific facts.

Bree questioned, "Mr. Davenport, how did you afford all this?"

"Well, I used some of the money from the jet wing stunt, but the rest of it I got from a huge government contract I just signed," Mr. Davenport typed on the cyber desk, showing them the information. "I am developing a rocket system to protect the earth from rogue asteroids. Thanks to this little baby, I'm on my way back up Rich Man Mountain, and, whoo, the air smells better up here! Huh? Whoa," he deeply inhaled. "Oh, wait, there's one more thing I forgot to show you."

     "Is it a mini-fridge?"

Mr. Davenport clenched his fist and jaw, "There's no mini-fridge."

Eddy popped up on the monitor, "But there is me!" Everyone but Mr. Davenport groaned. "Hello, friends, and I use the term friends loosely because you're not my friends, and I hate you."

"Did you really have to bring Eddy back?" Bree complained.

Chase stepped towards Eddy, "Yeah, I don't know that I'm okay with that."

"Well, then you definitely won't be okay with this." Eddy opened the hexagon floor underneath Chase, he fell screaming and thumped to the bottom floor. "Bam!"

Patience hopped off the bus, the first thing to catch her eye was the red car spinning in the student's parking lot. She stuck to the sidewalk keeping close to the wall in case the car got too close. She sped walked to the school's main entrance bumping into Adam, Bree, Chase, and Leo. "Goodmorning, everyone."

"Hey, Patience," Bree smiled. She rolled her eyes, gesturing to the red car, "That jerk has been doing doughnuts in the school parking lot all morning."

     "All morning?"

Adam's lips curled up, "I know. Finally, a good reason to come to school."

The tires screeched and Chase shouted, "Guys, look out!" Adam grabbed Bree and Patience and Chase grabbed Leo, shoving them away from the incoming car. The driver crashed into a trash bin littering over the faculty parking.

They parked in front of the five teens and Principal Perry groaned leaning out of the car window. She leaned to the passenger seat sticking her legs out the window. She struggled to get out and slammed the car door shut. "What's up?"

"You almost killed us," Patience bleated.

     "Well, you survived, didn't you?"

"What are you doing?" Leo questioned.

"Pushin' the envelope on this little baby's rollover specs," Perry answered.

Adam's eyebrows furrowed, "How did you afford this?"

"Your daddy gave me my first payment for keeping your little bionic secret. So naturally, I went out and bought my dream car, a barrel of pudding, and a lifetime supply of kitty litter. The fancy kind that clumps!"

"I think we have different definitions of fancy," Bree pointed out. The five teens spun on their heels entering the school.

Perry followed behind them, "So you guys are bionic. How's that work? Can you recharge my cell phone? Do you have vacuum attachments? Can you turn into wolves?"

They stopped in the middle of the hall. Adam smiled, "Not yet, but I did put that in the suggestion box."

"Come on, there's gotta be more you're not telling me. Spill!" Perry poked Adam's bicep, repeating, "Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme"

Bree crossed her arms, "She's not gonna stop, is she?"

     "Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme."

Leo replied, "What do you think?"

"Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme," Principal Perry tugged on Adam's backpack strap.

"Okay, okay!" Adam snapped, "We use our bionics to go on missions." Bree, Chase, Leo, and Patience sent Adam looks for exposing more of their secret life.

Perry gasped, "Missions! I would be so good on missions. I can see it now," Perry glanced up at the ceiling, "I'd end up saving you freaks." She crept a few feet ahead, imitating Adam, "I don't know if I can rescue a hostage. I'm scared, girl robot."

Perry glimpsed between Adam and Chase, "Me, too, guy who lives with the other one." She lowered her voice to a smaller pitch, "This is too dangerous. Guys, what am I supposed to do with my underdeveloped arms?"

Chase clung onto his satchel's strap giving Perry a bored look at her impression of him. "And then I break through the ceiling on a rope and say, 'Did somebody call for a hero?'" Patience and Bree shared a glance of amusement. "My own lunch ladies. How could you betray me? And I taught you how to recycle substandard meat."

Perry attempted to somersault back to the teenagers. She fell to the side, pretending it didn't happen. She punched and jabbed the space between Patience and Adams, she raised her leg kicking the air. Patience stepped back to avoid getting hit.

Principal Perry wiped her shoulder and winked. She changed her voice imitating Adam, Bree, and Chase:

     "Whoa, that was awesome!"

     "Principal Perry, you're incredible."

     "I'm wearing big-boy pants."

Perry gasped, "Don't worry, I'll save you, Mr. Whiskers." She walked straight through the invisible laser and picked up her fake cat to pet.

The school bell rang scaring Patience. She was too focused on Perry's mildly vivid storytelling to remember where she was. Patience pursed her lips, staring at the woman petting her invisible cat.

"Please make it stop!" Leo pled, his hands were holding his head, horrified.

Adam, Bree, Chase, and Patience left the circle for their first period, but Perry trailed behind them, "So, when do we go on our first mission? Do I get nunchucks? I want nunchucks. I want nunchucks, I want nunchucks."
