3.35 | The Satellite

Capítulo XXXV- El satélite

Patience kept on her toes arriving at Pike's Crest. She was excited to be on her first mission, but also scared. She hadn't been on an official mission, she was always behind the scenes away from the danger. The times she had been put in danger were when she was caught off guard by Krane, Douglas, or Marcus, mostly Krane.

Exiting Mr. Davenport's black van, Patience rubbed her hands together. Her protectant gloves were in her pocket. The only thing protecting her as of now was the red sleeves. They reached to her knuckles, wrapping around the bottom of her thumb.

A set of warm hands broke her hands apart. She glanced up seeing Chase's face. It was just him, the others were getting their things ready. "It's okay to be nervous," he quietly said.

"No, it's not. If I'm nervous, I'll mess up. I can't mess up trying to save the world or we'll all fall under Krane's control," Patience rapidly spoke. "That can't happen. People have lives to live and-"

"Patience," he let go of her hands and cupped her face. She stopped talking and her heart seemed to slow down at his touch. "You're doing it again."

"Doing what?" she asked.

"Rambling when you get scared."

"Pff, I'm not scared."

Chase dropped his hands and took her hands again. "Yeah, you are. I can tell when you're lying." Anyone can tell but he didn't want to add it. He reassured, "It's okay. I was scared on my first mission too, but I was able to overcome it."

"How?"

"I was with Adam, Bree, and Leo. Even though he almost killed us but he made up for it in the end. Patience, you have incredible abilities not just your bionics. I mean, you were able to knock me unconscious without meaning too," he smiled.

"I still feel bad," she mumbled. "Do you really think so?"

"I know you can and trust me, I know. I am the smartest person in the world," he grinned, but it wasn't a smug grin like usual. "Chin up, buttercup," he tapped Patience's chin.

Her lips twitched up as he lifted her chin. "Thank you, Chase. I needed that."

"All better?"

"Yeah, way better."

"Good, come on," he laced his fingers with hers. "We need to get going."

Mr. Davenport held a weapon close to his chest. She didn't recognize it from the weapons room. He and Douglas must have made new weapons for an event like this. "Okay, are we ready?" he asked, quietly. They didn't need Krane and his army detecting their presence.

Everyone answered giving quick nods. Together, they advanced to the open area. Lights illuminated the quiet area. Patience didn't like the quietness. There should've been some form of talking or movement or even the animals in the area making noise. They scavenged the area as they watched over their steps. In the far corner, Patience detected the massive satellite, however, no one was guarding it.

"And there's nobody here," Chase said, disappointed.

"Maybe they left," Bree stated. But Patience still remained hesitant.

Douglas questioned, "Where would they go?"

"Well, Jets are playing Green Bay," Adam pointed out causing Patience to send him a confused look.

"Krane wouldn't leave his satellite unprotected, he's spent all this time building it," Patience faced the group. "We need to look."

Bree agreed, her hand tapped Adam's chest, "C'mon, let's go make sure they're not hiding over there."

Mr. Davenport, Douglas, Chase, Leo, and Patience stayed behind. As Adam and Bree searched the area, two bionic soldiers geo-leaped to their sides. Mr. Davenport motioned his weapon to them, "Leo, go help Adam and Bree. We'll take care of that satellite dish."

Leo joined Adam and Bree and Douglas gave Patience instructions. "Patience, your bionic scream and sonic blasts send out a vibration that could destroy the satellite. If you get the right frequency, you can do some serious damage."

"How will I know it worked?" she asked, placing her protecting gloves.

He nodded, "You'll just know."

"Chase, stay here to fight off any incoming bionic soldiers," Mr. Davenport instructed.

Mr. Davenport and Douglas rose their weapons to aim at any bionic soldiers. Chase fixed his vest and sent Patience an assuring look. He knew she can do it, she has always been capable of it. Patience smiled once more before running after Douglas and Mr. Davenport.

They knocked out bionic soldiers with their weapons. Their aim was as quick as the unknown energy shot out. Patience needed to clear the area near the satellite. There were two by the control panel and she didn't stop running. She measured the distance between her and her opponent and their height. She bounced off the ground and spun in the air. The front of her boot collided with their head.

Just with the one kick, he fell unconscious. Patience felt bad because she remembered they had no control, but she needed to fight them off to set them free. The other threw a punch in her direction. She ducked down, but they followed it by a kick. Patience trapped their leg between her arm and side, ignoring the bruise forming. As they balanced on one leg, she snapped her foot out.

He lost their footing and geo-leaped before they could hit the ground. He popped out behind Patience wrapping his arms around her torso, capturing her arms. She stepped on their foot but they barely flinched. She turned her head up to him and released a sonic scream. He let go before kneeling on the ground and holding their ears shut. The side of her palm struck his neck.

Douglas and Mr. Davenport cleared out the area. Chase fought a bionic soldier off in the distance. Unlike Chase, who had a blue laser bo, he had a red laser pitchfork. Leo fought off S-1. Patience hadn't seen her since a beam was dropped on her.

"Now, Patience," Mr. Davenport commanded.

Patience faced the satellite, she licked her lips and opened her mouth, her sonic scream shot out in ripples. She was sure she saw the satellite being pushed back. She heightened the frequency to it and created a tear toward the center. If Patience could smile right now, she would. The satellite vibrated and small sound waves radiated off of it. It was almost broken.

Krane geo-leaped between the Davenport brothers and Patience. They aimed at Krane to keep him from attacking her. She kept her focus on the satellite. The tear expanded through it, a squeak broke in the air as it split apart. It grew branches on the side and soon enough, the top of the satellite was broken

"No!" Krane exclaimed. He charged an electric ball in his hand. As Patience remained distracted, he shot at her before anyone could warn her. She flew back almost hitting the fence.

The electricity flowed down her body, burning every nerve in her. It felt like her body was on fire while she remained stiff on the ground with her lips pursed. Her healing factor detected the injury and fought it off quickly. Small spasms jerked through her body as she watched Douglas and Mr. Davenport fight Krane.

They shot their weapons at him and Krane was barely pushed back. He absorbed every energy ball shot at him. He generated two different spheres, one was a pyro-blast and the other was the same Patience was hit with. Krane shot at Douglas first. Mr. Davenport caught his weapon as Douglas fell. Krane released electricity where Mr. Davenport stood. He did his best to aim at him Unfortunately, none of them made it through and Krane geo-leaped away.

Patience shot up and shook off the tingly feeling coursing her body. She limped to Mr. Davenport and held out a hand. "Are you okay?" he grunted as he stood.

"Yeah," she dusted off her jacket. "That felt really weird. How about you?"

He panted, "Yeah. Keep an eye out, he could come back any minute. Now, that you destroyed his satellite he'll come after us."

They stood back to back, slowly spinning in a circle. Krane geo-leaped in front of Mr. Davenport. He pushed his arm aside making Mr. Davenport lose his balance. Patience used the sound of rustling leaves to use as her own sound waves. She punched out vibrations, taking turns with each hand. Mr. Davenport joined her by shooting his weapon.

Mr. Davenport aimed at Krane's leg. His knees buckled and two pyro-blasts were created. He shot one at Patience and the other at Mr. Davenport. She moved out of the way, but Mr. Davenport wasn't fast enough to dodge it. He clenched his fist letting the vest he wore for protection take the hit. He yelled as he lunged for Krane, who charged a pyro-blasts in his hands.

"Mr. Davenport, wait!" Patience rushed to his side and use herself as a shield. She was too slow for Krane's pyro-blasts. It struck his chest and he flew back thirty feet.

"Big D!" Leo shouted, running to his aid.

As much as Patience wanted to help Mr. Davenport, she used Krane's distraction as an advantage. She let out a wail and Krane fell to his knees again. His hands were pressed against his ear, yelling from the pain. Patience took slow steps, raising the frequency of her scream.

She could burst his eardrum to make him feel the pain he put her whole family through. Patience didn't know what her limit was, although she knew it could keep going. But she didn't, she kept it at the same level when she was a foot from his reach. She wasn't out to do any more harm than he already has. Patience didn't want to kill anyone even though she could tear his organs just by using her sonic scream if she reached a certain frequency. She only attacked him to keep him down.

However, it was short-lived when something hit her side. She landed on her back, knocking the air out of her lungs. She groaned trying to catch her breath. Patience propped herself up on her elbows. Krane hovered over her slow-breathing body.

"That was a big mistake," Krane said, holding another pyro-blast. "It may not kill you, but it can cause a lot of pain."

Patience took shaky breaths listening to her environment. She used the surrounding soldiers' footsteps to redirect the vibrations to Krane. Patience rose up and blocked any of the attacks Krane threw at her. She kicked his shin and he bent down. Patience threw her fist up, striking underneath his chin.

Krane stumbled back and Patience spun on her right foot and the front of her left foot stuck Krane's cheek. The hits did enough damage to make him unbalanced. Patience had already weakened him and his hearing.

Krane finally had enough and stopped her entire movements. Her body tightened in its place and rose in the air. Patience put all her strength to kick her legs and arms around, but she was still. Krane jerked his arm to the side and as he did, Patience was tossed across the area by Mr. Davenport.

"Patience!" Leo shouted. "Are you okay!" he leaped over Mr. Davenport's body to kneel between the two.

No, she wasn't. She couldn't breathe and her diaphragm felt tight. Every time she tried to take a deep breath, a sharp pain would strike up her chest. "Yeah, I'm okay. I'll be fine. How's Mr. Davenport?" she replied. Patience pressed her lips together to prevent a groan from escaping.

"His pulse is very low," Leo panicked.

Patience pressed two fingers on Mr. Davenport's wrist, she felt a faint pulse. "We need to get him out of here."

"How? If we leave, Adam, Bree, Chase, and Douglas won't be able to escape. We don't have the upper hand."

Patience was able to breathe normally again. She sighed and glanced back at them. Douglas was nowhere in sight, Adam, Bree, and Chase approached Krane. The bionic army surrounding the broken satellite made an opening for them. "What are they doing?"

"I don't know. I can't hear anything."

Adam, Bree, and Chase faced back to back in a triangle form. They linked their arms together and a blue tornado-like circle surrounded them. Patience was only able to see Bree's face clearly. Her face scrunched up and her teeth clenched. The force around them pushed them closer. Krane built up all the energy in him for the pyro-blast. His hands glowed orange and directed it to the bionics siblings' energy.

Their grunts and yells mixed with electricity, almost canceling each other out. Patience wanted to look away. Seeing the pain across their faces spiked a feeling of worry, yet she continued to look.

"Now!" shouted Chase.

A surge of energy fired out of their energy ring. It passed through Krane's pyrokinesis and shot him to the sky. Adam, Bree, and Chase's eyes closed, going limp. As she was about to go check on them, they sat up.

All of the bionic soldiers' eyes stopped glowing a vibrant green and collapsed. Bree looked around, "It worked! The Triton app is deactivated!"

Douglas hopped over the sea of unconscious bodies. He chuckled, "Yes! You did it!"

Leo turned his body to the celebrating family. He called out, "Guys! Get over here, quick!"

Patience checked Mr. Davenport's pulse. It was slower than before. Patience unzipped the hidden pocket on her waistband and placed the phone underneath his nose. A puff of air stained the screen. "He's barely breathing, we need to go." Patience hooked her arms underneath Mr. Davenport's armpits and Adam grabbed his legs. In sync, they shuffled to the van.

Patience fixed herself a seat between Bree and Chase. She hooked her arm around Chase's and leaned her head on his shoulder. Her free hand held Bree's hand. The guilt inside of Patience was eating her alive. She was disappointed in herself for not pushing Mr. Davenport away on time. She should've seen it coming. Not to mention, instead of reaching for him, she could've blasted Krane.

Patience squeezed Bree's hand. They waited for Tasha to call Leo back. They would've stayed at the hospital if they could've but the paparazzi showed up and wouldn't leave them alone. Thousands of questions about Krane and Mr. Davenport were thrown left and right. They had no choice but to leave.

Leo's phone rang and he pushed himself off the wall he leaned on. "Mom! How's Big D!" he asked, walking toward the lab's tunnel.

Douglas placed his arms on his side. "Poor Donny. This is all my fault. I should've protected him."

"No, don't blame yourself, Douglas," Patience said, raising her head off Chase's shoulder.

"Exactly." Adam looked at Chase and motioned to him, "Blame Chase."

Chase laced his hands together, his elbows rested on his knees. "It's no one's fault."

Adam sucked in a breath, smiling. He whispered up to Douglas, "See, that's what people say when it is their fault."

When Leo came back, everyone rose from their seats. "How is he?" Bree pressed.

"Not good. He's out of surgery, but it's still touch and go," he admitted.

"Then I guess all we can do is wait," said Chase.

Patience's lips twisted to the side and a knot formed at the back of her throat. Chase picked up the small sniffle she tried to hide. He pulled her in for a hug, holding the back of her head closer to his chest. She wrapped her arms around his waist and didn't move.
