2.36 | The Gyroscope

Capitulo XXXVI- El Giroscopio

Patience chased after Trent, he was right at Chase and Leo's tails. Patience grabbed Trent's forearm, "Wait, wait. Stop." She stepped in between Trent and her friends. "Let's settle this in a civilized way. What if we actually help you study."

"No way, they failed me on purpose. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice- I'm gonna hit you!" Trent lunged at Chase and Leo.

Swiftly, Patience grabbed Trent's wrist, twisted it, and pulled his arm behind his back. Normally, Patience wouldn't resort to violence, but she did what she had to do before Trent threw a punch at Chase or Leo. Trent winced surprised by her strength, she was two times smaller than him.

"Ow! Ow! Okay! Okay! I'll listen!"

Patience let go of Trent and returned to her spot, smiling at him, "Great. If we tell Perry we purposely flunked you, you can take the test again tomorrow. Understood," she glanced at Chase, Leo, and Trent.

"But I don't wanna take another test," Trent wined.

"Do you wanna pass the test or not?"

Trent groaned, "Fine." He turned around and began walking towards the main entrance.

Leo and Chase dropped their shoulder no longer tense from running away. Leo sighed, "Patience, you are a lifesaver."

Patience wrapped her arms around Chase and Leo's shoulders making their way to the school, "I can't let Trent go around beating you guys up. Now, what did we learn today?"

"To not mess with Trent," they responded in sync. Leo added, "That includes you too, right?"

"100%" Patience confirmed. Although she didn't tamper with the glasses she was just as much involved for not telling Trent or Perry about it. Patience let go of them and Chase and Leo stayed behind Patience not trusting Trent completely.

They entered the hall and Patience began, "Principal Perry, we have something to tell you."

"What do you need? Come back to fill the missing piece?" Perry referred to their earlier conversation.

Chase apologized, "Look, we're sorry for setting Trent up. Just please, please, give him another chance. We'll help him study. For real this time."

"Well since it wasn't technically Trent's fault, he can retake the test tomorrow. That gives you three the rest of the day to help him study," Perry pointed at the trio and kept her finger on Patience, "and you better make sure they do."

     "Yes, ma'am," Patience nodded.

Leo asked, "So you don't care if we skip our classes today?"

Perry simply said, "I care very little about you."

With a few tables set up, Trent sat in front of a whiteboard in the cafeteria. Chase, Leo, and Patience stood in front of the whiteboard acting as Trent's teachers for the rest of the day, but anytime they tried to teach him something, he would go back to doodling on his piece of paper.

Chase wrote on the whiteboard, "Pressure equals force over?"

Trent wrote on his paper, which Patience hopefully thought was the answer. He flipped his binder to show them his work, a dinosaur chasing down four figures.

     "What is that?" Leo asked.

"Trentosaurus rex. I'm about to eat you."

Leo painfully smiled, "Okay. Maybe he's more of a visual learner."

Patience took the eraser from Chase's hands, wiping the whiteboard down. She moved it aside and Chase placed a pendulum on Trent's table. "So this demonstrates conservation of momentum," Chase pulled back the bob, released it, and it swung.

Patience looked at Trent. She peered over the table to see what he was drawing. "Are you drawing another Trentosaurus rex?" she asked.

"No!" Trent showed them his new drawing, "It's a Trentodactyl. Guess what he eats?"

     Leo fumed, "You're hopeless."

"Oh, really?" Trent slammed his binder shut and set it down. He reached over to get a ball from the cart beside him and chucked it at Chase. The force caused him to fall on Leo. Unaware Leo tried to grab onto her, Patience fell with him and the ball cart. Trent laughed, "Now that's conservation of momentum."

Leo lifted his head, "I'm starting to think he only learns when people get hurt."

Chase's face brightened up, "We can use that!"

Out of all the insane ideas or things Patience and her best friends have gotten, she never thought about using pain to help someone study. Nor did she expect Principal Perry to have a gyroscope big enough to fit a student.

Leo was the one to end up in the gyroscope. Patience would have taken the opportunity to go on it since she liked going onto crazy rides like that in amusement parks, however, they needed to be in pain not enjoying the moment.

"I didn't mean when I get hurt!" Leo shouted again. He was strapped into the gyroscope, jiggling the cuffs.

Patience explained, "Alright, Trent. It's simple. Every time you get an answer right, you spin Leo on the gyroscope in your own sadistic way."

Chase rose his arms, motioning to the machine, "And the more you get right, the more Leo suffers."

     "Wait, what?" Leo's eyes widened.

     "Awesome!" Trent beamed.

     "Nope, not awesome."

Chase and Patience shared a set of cards. Patience read off the first one, "First question, Trent. How do you calculate force?"

"Oh! I know this one!" Trent stuttered, "Uh, mass times..."

Chase waved his arms, "Picture Leo spinning fast..."

     "Acceleration!"

     "He's right!"

Leo shook his head, "Nope. Nope."

Trent crackled and spun Leo as he yelled in fear. Chase and Patience read off the cards as if they were on a game show. Mostly so she could block out Leo's terrified screams. They shot out questions rapidly and Trent answered them with ease.

The more it went on, the less hesitant Trent was to answer. Patience had to remind herself why they were doing this every time Trent spun Leo. By the time they were done, Trent memorized the whole review. Chase and Patience unhooked Leo from the gyroscope and he ran straight to the trash can. Chase and Patience cringed turning away from Leo.

Chase, Leo, and Patience paced around in the gym. Unlike yesterday, Leo and Chase didn't hold a grin waiting for Trent or Perry to come in and inform them of Trent's test results. Helping Trent study was the least of their problems now, having to plan out their next three years in high school with Trent was.

Chase stressed, "What do we do if Trent doesn't pass?"

Leo stopped, "I don't know about you, but I'm gonna aim for your other foot and run."

"Or we can stick together? I'm a martial artist, you're bionic, and you're a mission specialist," Patience pointed at Chase and Leo. "We could fend him off for maybe three days?"

Perry entered the gym, "Well, done, guys. Trent passed and finally graduated. He's no longer a student at Mission Creek High."

Chase, Leo, and Patience jumped up and down in excitement. "He's society's problem now!" Leo said, relieved.

A whistle blew and the trio whipped their heads around. "Hi, nerds, miss me?" Trent stood by the other gym doors with the school's gym teacher uniform.

Chase acknowledged, "Trent, you graduated. You don't have to be here anymore."

"Yeah, shouldn't you be working at a gas station or living at a gas station? You belong at a gas station," Leo went on. Patience nudged Leo's side to quiet down.

"Nope, he belongs here. I just hired Trent as the new gym teacher," Perry conceded.

Trent stepped towards Chase, Leo, and Patience, "That's right. From now on it's 'Mister' Trent."

Leo shook his head, "That's cold, Terry Perry. That's cold."

Patience furrowed her eyebrows, "Doesn't the school have requirements to become a gym teacher?"

"Yep. He fulfills all the requirements, dirt cheap, high school grad, and he almost passed the psychological exam," Perry chuckled, "Did better than me, anyway."

Trent glanced down at the three shorter teens, "Thanks for all your help, guys. Now I get paid to torture you. I don't care what my dad says, graduating high school is worth it."
