The fateful jar slid off the levered shelf and fell into the arms of the one who had removed it earlier that morning. Patton smirked, watching as Virgil landed in Roman's grasp and yell out a profanity.
"Oh shit." Roman grinned maliciously, holding tightly onto the emo that was doing his best to wriggle out of the prince's grasp. "No!! No! We can talk about this right? I'm sorry, Princey! Please no!" Roman didn't listen and instead marched straight to the couch and threw him on it. Patton walked over, still clutching the jar, and sat on the other couch. He watched as Roman pinned Virgil by straddling his hips.
quickly started to giggle when Roman began to wrestle with his arms playfully. Patton watched with endearing eyes as Roman encaptured Virgil's wrists with his grasp, but then let them slip out almost as if he was trying to cause Virgil to anticipate Roman's every move. Eventually, the prince did catch Virgil off guard by poking into his side, eliciting a shrill squeal from the anxious side's lips.
"I'm gonna get youuu..." Roman sung and continued to poke at the tickle spots along his ribs and sides. Virgil batted at Roman's hands, but Patton had decided that the smile on Virgil's face betrayed his actions.
Roman reached behind and slipped a hand underneath Virgil's knee. The anxious aspect tried to bend and twist, anything to get away from the torturous feeling, but to no avail. Roman had him pinned. Perhaps Virgil could have escaped if he really wanted to, but the tickling had left his thoughts jumbled and confused, as if he didn't know what he truly wanted.
When Logan was tickling Patton, the moral aspect would have described his feeling as a green stop sign. Wanting it to continue, but cease at the same time. He could see the exact same thoughts and expressions on Virgil's face as Roman continued. Patton suddenly found himself moving towards the pair. It was Virgil's rare laughter that was so inviting, it was as if he couldn't resist the feet that were poking out from under Roman's back side.
Virgil must have seen Patton out of the corner of his eyes moving towards him, because he began to thrash a little more once he felt Patton gently tug on the aglet of his left shoelace. Roman watched Virgil's face, confusion contorting his own while he watched Virgil break out into sudden hysterics. The prince glanced behind him and smiled when he saw Patton begin to untie and slip off his shoes. He had to yell over Virgil's high pitched laughter to communicate with him.
"Thank you for joining Patton! I was afraid I would have to deal with Jacket Smellington over here by myself! He should really wash that piece of clothing sometimes." Patton chuckled, now removing his socks slowly and teasingly.
"His socks need washing too! Maybe after this we can take his clothes and wash them! Then, he can wear something else besides black for a little bit!" Patton began to poke at the pale digits, watching with glee as they twitched violently with each gentle tickle the moral aspect gave him.
"NAAAHAHAHAHAHA STOHOHOHOHOP!!" Virgil thrashed harder, feeling a panic attack coming on. It was getting to be too much stimuli for him to handle. Luckily, a voice came from the other side of the couch.
"As much as Virgil needs to wash his clothes and probably his body, what he needs more right now is not to be double teamed!" Roman wasn't even given a chance to look at who the voice belonged to. A force had rushed him from over the back of the couch and pushed him off Virgil, hurdling towards the floor.
"Aaaaaa-oof!" He collided into the ground and quickly felt a weight on his back pressing him against the floor. "Not again..." He mumbled into the carpet.
Once Virgil felt Roman leave his pelvic area, he sat up and shoved his barefoot into Patton's face.
"Eeeek! Eww!!" Patton quickly grabbed Virgil's ankle, but the anxious aspect was one step ahead and yanked his foot upwards, pulling Patton towards himself on the couch. From there, he was able to grab at Patton's sides and catch him off guard. Roman watched this happen from his spot on the floor until he felt hands scribble into his armpits from up above. He could recognize that skilled calculating tapping anywhere.
"Ahahahaha wahahaait Lohohogan nohoho!!! STOHOHOP!"
"Who decided to leave me in the room with the tickle monster?" There was amusement dripping from the logical aspect's voice.
"Vihihihirgil!!" Roman squeaked as Logan's nails found a sensitive spot right above his ribs.
"Don't place all the blame on Virgil. He's dealing with his own problems right now." Logan looked up to the moral aspect and smiled, watching with satisfaction while Virgil laid over the top of Patton slipping hands underneath his shirt and tickling his tummy.
"Heheheheheheehhelp!!!!" Roman called out quite pathetically and thrashed his limbs around accomplishing nothing. Logan continued to sit on his back and skitter inside his clenched armpits.
Virgil smirked at Roman's predicament. "Don't come crying to me Princey! You're the one that threw me on the couch."
"Y-you sta-a-arted ihihihit!" Roman fired back through his laughter. Logan slowed his tickling a little, seeing as Roman couldn't stand much more without shrieking or fighting for his life.
"Actually...it was Patton that started it, by stealing the cookie jar. I was trying to finish it by tickling, but it got out of hand." Virgil slowed his tickling on Patton as well.
"Wait so, Logan tickled Patton first right?" Patton grabbed at his wrists and held them away from his belly button, one of the pointer fingers still wiggling.
"Y-yeah. This is all his fault!" Patton pointed at him.
"If you hadn't been taking cookies at 3 am in the morning we all wouldn't be in this predicament!" Logan shot back.
"Actually, Logan. If you want to be technical, it's the jar's fault for existing." Virgil smirked.
"Now now, Virgil. It's still early morning. Let's not do conspiracy theories." Patton tried to calm him, but the wiggling finger entered his belly button again. Virgil grinned at the sudden squeak.
"Now now, Patton. It's still early morning. Let's not grab cookies at 3am!" Virgil lightly mocked watching as Patton tried to pout through his sweet giggles.
"Heheheheehehyy!!" Logan got off Roman and helped up the prince. They both walked up to Patton together.
"So yes." Logan smirked. "It was indeed Patton who started it."
"How'd you get back up from fainting so quickly, Logan?" Roman questioned.
"Oh, I pretended I fainted. Patton judges facial expression. To escape him, I mimicked my own facial expressions as if I had actually fainted."
"What!?" Patton shouted through the gentle giggles coming from the tickling Virgil was applying on his sides and tummy. The anxious aspect then pressed into his hips, causing him to shout aloud.
"So...should we declare a truce?" Virgil asked, turning to the creative and logical sides.
Roman rubbed his chin. "Hmm...one second." He turned to the side and pressed down into Logan's hips causing him to squeak and yell. He then twisted his thumbs inwards, and Logan burst into giggles again. He slapped at Roman's shoulder in a desperate attempt to get him to stop.
"Ah! No! Cuhuhuhut it ouhohohout!" Just as soon as Roman had started, he stopped and held out a hand to Logan, smirking devilishly.
"There we go. Now I'm ready for a truce." Logan frowned once the giggles had subsided, but shook his hand regardless.
"Truce." He bit the word begrudgingly, but if he hadn't stopped it there, then Roman would have continued until he surrendered.
Virgil smiled and relinquished his ticklish assault on Patton. The anxious aspect arose from the couch and held out a hand to Patton. The moral aspect coughed the rest of his laughter, but grasped Virgil's hands and stood up to face the other two.
"Heh. Heh. Sorry Logan. But, even I woke you all up, I'm not really that sorry! We got to have a bonding experience together!" Patton gestured to them, watching as they each judged what had happened separately. "When had that last happened!?" The other three thought to themselves.
"It's been years." Roman said quietly and Logan agreed by curtly nodding once. Virgil looked away as knowing glances were cast towards him. They all knew it was his very first time messing around like that. Roman put a comforting hand on his shoulder and Virgil returned it, turning his gaze back into Roman's eyes to give him a half smile.
Logan smiled their way, then towards Patton. "Yes. I actually do feel better after that. Even if it was silly. Perhaps we should put the Jar back and continue getting some sleep. Thomas won't be up for a couple more hours anyhow." Patton smiled watching as Virgil and Roman gently intertwined fingers.
"Yeah. Sounds like a plan Logan." Patton sauntered over to pick up the jar from the table and walk back with it the same way he had ran earlier that morning. He smiled, remembering how playful Logan had been. Perhaps he had been loopy or in a good mood, but Patton was thankful for the sweet moment anyhow.
He climbed the pantry and set the jar on the highest shelf where it would sit until someone needed a cookie again. Below him waiting were his family. The ones he had played tickling with just moments before. They were all smiling directly up at him, levels of happiness shining in their eyes.
And even if he had disturbed them that morning for some dumb cookies, he began to not only see the jar as a container for cookies, but as a catalyst for joy. Maybe whenever he was feeling sad, he'd grab the jar down from it's resting place and run around with it until someone caught him. And just maybe he'd catch one of the other sides with it one time, hoping that Patton will remember and tickle them happy again.
Patton thought this to himself as he carefully climbed back down the shelf and into the arms of his loving family. No, they weren't perfect and at times annoyed each other to pieces. But they still loved each other and that's what truly mattered.
