A pink neon light flickered softly against the sunset's reflection in the window of a small town bakery shop. The last of the customers had bought their pastries and quickly left, hoping to make it home before dark. The owner of the store, Emile Picani, was just doing some last minute baking before closing up for the night. It was one of his favorite parts of the day, because this is the time where he would frost all the doughnuts and decorate them to look like famous cartoon characters! He had so many themes and tried to be precise as possible in all the little details that he added to each pastry. Even if he had a hard day, he would always come home happy because this was the time where he could wind down from a hard day's work.

The customers had left about 20 minutes ago, so the baker was surprised when he heard the doorbell chime the first couple measures of the Steven Universe theme song, indicating someone had just walked in.

"Umm...hello! We are about to close in 10 minutes..." His voice trailed off when he noticed the familiar leather satchel and lilted voice.

"Hey sugar cube! It's just me." Emile smiled, barely catching the flirty wink behind the shades the taller man was wearing.

"Hi Remy. You came just at the right time. I was about to lock up for the night." Remy hopped up on the counter, sliding next to his boyfriend of two weeks.

"Awesome. You got the goods?" Emile rolled his eyes fondly and stopped frosting for a second to look for the 'goods' that Remy asked for. During a normal baking day, there was a small amount of pastries or cookies that did not make the cut and were collected as duds. Emile used to throw them out or give them to homeless people who were passing by, but now that he was dating Remy, the baker made sure to set aside a small stash of them for him to eat each night. Emile held up said stash in front of Remy's face.

"You mean these 'goods'?" Remy drooled at the assortment of tasty defective pastries dangling before him.

"Ohohoho yesss. Come to papa..." He licked his lips, reaching out for the bag before it was removed from his reach.

"Ah ah ah." Emile waggled his finger, teasingly. "Gotta pay up, before ya eat up!" Remy giggled into grin, scooching himself ever so slightly closer to the baker. Emile took a small step backwards and held the bag of treats behind, watching as Remy's face came closer and closer to his. Their noses finally touched and Remy reached a hand out, carressing the nape of Emile's neck while he pressed a chastise kiss to Emile's lips. The baker blushed and returned the gesture, the kiss deepening and turning both sets of cheeks red. Emile knew it was too good to be true however, as he saw Remy's other hand move gently past his line of sight.

Emile smirked into the kiss, tightening his hold on the bag of goods waiting for any touch that might constitute as Remy's stray hand. When he felt a small bump with his shoulder, he stepped away quickly and trotted a few feet back now holding the bag in front of him where Remy could see it. His boyfriend pouted when his love escaped his clutches.

"Heyyyy wait! Where are you going?" He held up his arms in mock confusion, strutting towards Emile who continually took some steps backward to keep the space between them the same. There was no denying the big smile on his face however.

"Oh...ya know...nowhere. I just wanted to make sure that the kiss was genuine and you didn't want anything else in return." Remy chuckled.

"Oh it was a real kiss darling! Just as real as the items you have in your hand." He gestured to the bag of goodies Emile was holding. The baker shook his head fondly.

"I know a real kiss when I get one from you. And I could tell you only wanted this." He jiggled the bag gently.

"That's not true!! I kissed you because I love you!" Remy tried to walk up to his boyfriend, only to watch Emile scamper away again.

"Ah! But, it's because you would get something in return. That's fake currency to me dear. I want something real." Emile knew exactly what sort of dangerous game he was playing.

Remy threw back his head and laughed. "You want something real?" He advanced a little quicker now, a playful growl entering his voice. "I'll show you real!"

Emile squealed, now actually running through his small town bakery with Remy hot on his tail. He was thankful there was no one else in sight, or else he would have been hearing about this odd scene tomorrow. He weaved in and out of tables and used chairs as obstacles, yet unfortunately for him Remy's long legs had no problem clearing them. They then played chicken around the counter that Remy had sat on earlier. It included the cash register meaning that one way held a waist-high door while the other did not. Emile had forgotten he had locked that door just moments before Remy walked in because he was about to lock the building up. It was a stroke of dumb luck on Remy's side that he was able to corner his boyfriend behind the counter.

Emile tried to escape but was unsuccessful as Remy's arms slipped around his waist from behind. Remy pulled his giggly mess of a boyfriend down to the ground with him and leaned his back against the counter wall. Without warning, he dove his nose into Emile's exposed neck and gave him a series of small raspberries. The baker's giggly protests were instantly overcome by high pitched laughter.

"How's this?! Is THIS real enough for you, babe?" Remy asked in between tickly onslaughts. He snaked a hand to where Emile was holding the bag and quickly scuttered a hand along his ribs. The baker tried to escape, but Remy held fast.

"Ohohohohoh nohohohoho. R-rehehemmy!!" The taller boyfriend nuzzled his nose into his cheek and whispered sweet things into his ear. The baker quickly snorted.

Remy's other hand joined the tickle attack, squeezing up and down Emile's plump sides, catching the baker off guard. It was a wonder he hadn't just given him the bag yet as it would end his suffering a lot sooner. But Remy had always known that Emile loved the challenge of the hard way.

"Had enough realness yes, my dear?" Emile just continued to laugh and twist, and Remy took the no response as "Not yet." He grinned as his crawled his hands teasingly towards his hips and kneaded gently. The baker arched his back and almost got away, but Remy pulled him back on his lap. Eventually, Emile Picani gave in.

"Ohohohohkay!! Ohohohokay! Youhoho can have it!" Remy smiled into his lover's hair, before gently taking the bag out of his grasp. But to Emile's surprise, he didn't release him afterwards. Instead, Remy deposited the bag next to him and dove his hands towards Emile's ticklish belly. He squeaked and thrashed so hard that they tipped over onto the ground with Remy still scribbling along his stomach playfully. Remy quickly stopped after a moment, sensing Emile had enough. The baker's breaths finally evened out and the tiny giggles turned silent.

"Y-youho...you didn't just take the bag?" Emile questioned, looking up to his boyfriend who had just removed his shades. His eyes held nothing but adoration.

"Of course I didn't! Like you said! You wanted something real, I'll always give you something real, besides..." Remy sat back up and helped Emile up as well. "Though your baking skills may be the best, the sweetest thing in this bakery will always be you." Emile blushed from the tips of his ears to his collarbone as Remy booped his nose.

"Oh stop that!" Remy then poked his nose into his ear and nibbled a little on his earlobe, growling softly. Emile swatted him away, but Remy came back just as quickly to place a kiss on his cheek.

"I love you dear." Emile hid his reddening face in the safety of his boyfriend's neck.

"I love you too, Remy." After a moment of sweet silence, the baker took a deep breath and composed himself from the rush of excitement he had felt over the last few minutes. "Alright. I need to lock up. What do you say you help me frost these last few doughnuts and then I'll give you a free ride home?" Remy chuckled but obliged, helping Emile up to his feet and decorate the last of the cartoon character shaped doughnuts. Once they had officially closed up for the night, Remy and Emile hopped in the baker's car and drove off. It was only then Emile discovered Remy had left the bag of treats he gave him back at the bakery. When asked if he wanted to go back to retrieve them, Remy just said it was alright and he could get them tomorrow.

In all honesty, he never forgot about them. He just needed Emile to know that his goodies were never a contingency for their relationship. It was symbolism to him, if not to Emile, that his boyfriend's worth has nothing to do with what he could give him, but who he is as his partner and as his best friend.
