"Ack! Logan no!!" The Dolphin mer weaved in and out of the coral surrounding their claimed nesting grounds as the octomer continued to chase him.

"Why no? You were the one who was curious. And you said enjoyed tickling, yes?" Roman clicked out a profanity after he rounded a corner only to find Logan quickly swim up in front of him. Logan smirked and wrapped his tentacles around Roman before he could get away. Roman squeaked and found his attempts to break out of Logan's hold to be futile.

Logan nuzzled the back of his neck and he lightly set to work on Roman's known tickle spots. Two tentacles brushed against his sides and the tips of them drilled inside his armpits. The tickling was gentle enough so that Roman could get out if he wanted to, but he stayed in his companion's arms enjoying the intimate moment between them.

Once Roman had enough, he flicked his fin at a couple of Logan's free tentacles and the octomer relinquished his hold. Logan watched fondly as Roman chased the rest of his giggles away.

"Ahahahah! That was fun! Now...it's your turn!" Logan rolled his eyes playfully.

"Alright. One more time, but after that I cannot keep amusing you. I have my own things to attend to before Patton comes back from the Sustenance Raid. Then we can show him tickling." Roman snickered and flipped out of pure excitement.

"Yes! I know he'll love it. Now, go on! I'll give you a head start." Logan laughed.

"But I am going to get tickled regardless if I swim away or not, why not save the energy and 'wreck' me here?" Roman pouted.

"That's not how it works!" Logan caved at Roman's pathetic but adorable face.

"Fine, fine! If it will wipe that awful look from your face." Logan took his chance and bolted right from under Roman's nose.

"Ah! Hey! Get back here!" Roman flicked his fin and raced after, knowing it wouldn't be long before he caught up because he was just a touch faster than Logan.

"You said you wanted a chase."

"You have to warn me first!!"

"Now where would be the fun in that?" As the two continued their chase, the shark mer named Virgil quietly rested in his upturned, sunken fishing boat. He was awoken gently by a small knock on the outside of it.

"Virgil? You awake?" Patton's head peaked through one of the cracks in the hull.

"I wish I wasn't..." He grumbled back and turned over to face Patton who floated above him.

"Was it that bad of a day?" Patton folded his wings and shimmied through the crack, his stinger following after him. Virgil scooted towards the stern of the boat to make room for Patton.

"It wasn't bad really, just weird."

"In what way was it weird?" Patton laid down next to Virgil and the shark mer turned to look up at the ceiling. He did not want to lie to Patton, but he also didn't want everyone to taunt him about the tickling thing.

"Just...things that we discovered we had in common with humans. I just thought we would always be different from them, ya know? And...the stuff Roman found out today might have proven me wrong." He twiddled his thumbs and swished his tail from side. Patton mentally noted his discomfort at talking about what happened earlier.

"Oh. Aren't you happy though? It must mean Logan and Roman made some breakthroughs." Patton always tried to see the positives in everything.

"Yeah, but that means we are that much closer to...actually interacting with them. What if...what if they..." Virgil trailed off and began to poke at the barnacles that had grown on the inside of the boat, the scraping sound filling the awkward silence that occurred between them.

"I know Virgil." Patton eventually responded. "It's a scary thought. Talking to someone that you have preconceived ideas about. That's our entire pod if you think about it. We are all in this pod to learn about humans, and it's because of humans that we were banished from our own families." Patton explained sadly. "I think humans are just like mers actually. Some good and some bad, but you can't judge them all based on their covers. I'll bet humans have some preconceived ideas of us too. At the end of the day, it's just two afraid races. One more aware of the other's existence, but let's not think about that too much. We feast in an hour and I'd at least like to find Roman and Logan before then. Do you think you can come with me?"

Virgil groaned, knowing that the outcome would be inevitable regardless of how long he put it off. "Uuuuggghhh. Fine. But...please protect me." Patton shot Virgil a perplexed look as they swam out of Virgil's sleeping place.

"From what?" Virgil bit his lip.

   "You'll see."

Patton and Virgil found Roman and Logan quietly enjoying each other's company in Logan's laboratory. Roman was sketching the last of his report on the stone slab when they walked into the room. Virgil was thankful to see that Roman's eyes held no mischief when he saw them both.

"Patton! Good to see that you're back! And you were able to drag the angstler fish out of it's hiding place." Virgil hissed violently at the remark, and Roman put up his hands in defense.

"Sorry! I was only trying to be funny." Virgil just pouted, watching as Logan noticed their presence and propelled himself towards them.

"Hello Virgil. Patton. How was the Sustenance Raid?" Patton shrugged.

"Fine enough. We have food for everyone, but the fish seem to migrating further out towards what used to be the tideline of the water. We may have to move our nesting grounds closer to shore."

"It's due to the ice caps melting, Patton. It's unfortunate for the humans. I hope revealing our existence will give them a reason to find a solution to the problem." Virgil looked down at the ocean floor, deep in thought.

"So...how did the scouting party go?" Once Patton asked, the shift in Roman's eyes was enough to make Virgil swim straight for the hills.

"Amazing!" Roman proclaimed. "I can't wait to tell you all about it." Roman was not expecting the frown that spread across Patton's face.

"Why did Virgil have a completely different reaction than you then?" Roman shied away when Patton folded his arms across his chest. Logan swam up close to Roman, ready to expllain.

"It was a partial accident on Roman's part. He didn't truly know, but also he did it deliberately. Yes the scouting party was observing surfing, but Roman also discovered a very interesting pastime that is shared between mer and humans." Patton looked back Virgil, noticing just how uncomfortable he looked.

"Really?" Patton watched a couple tentacles sneak behind Roman without him knowing. "Logan? What are you doing?"

"Demonstrating." He smirked and caught both of Roman's wrists and raised them above his head. Roman squeaked and began to giggle when he felt one tentacle begin to wiggle inside his armpit. Patton watched with amazement as Logan began to add his fingers into the tickly assault on Roman's upper body.

"It's called tickling." He explained as if a giggling Roman wasn't present in the room. Virgil had to admit that seeing his companion being tickled like that was a very precious thing. And he began to wonder if that's how Roman and Logan saw him when he was being tickled. "A light touch applied to a sensitive spot on the body will cause laughter." Logan continued, now standing in front of Roman wiggling his fingers over Roman's tummy and hips. "Would you like to try?"

   "Ahahahahahaha!! Nohohohohoho! Geheheht Logan!"

"What's wrong Roman?" Virgil found himself hypocritically teasing his former teaser. "Can't handle what you dish out?"

Patton looked a little lost, possibly dumbfounded at the new information. "Is he okay?" He quietly asked.

"Oh he's fine. He likes it, don't you Roman?" Logan said casually and moved to one side of Roman to make room for Patton. He stopped tickling Roman and watched his gills heave up and down. The Manta Ray mer noticed the blush that spread across Roman's face.

   "Maybe..." Patton smiled.

"Are you sure, kiddo? I'm not gonna do the tickling if you don't want it." At this point, Virgil was beginning to get slightly jealous of Roman, which he didn't understand. He hated tickling, or so he thought. Roman nodded to Patton and the mer looked to Logan for guidance.

"Try poking his sides Patton. That is a good way to start." Patton nodded and did what he was told. Roman quickly squeaked and Patton instantly began to see why this was fun. A big smile overtook his features and he repeated the poking gesture over and over again. He tried the squeezing and wiggling motions the octomer had performed earlier. Roman was already laughing hysterically. It was at this point Logan allowed Roman to get revenge.

The octomer let go of the dolphin mer's arms and swam out of the way. Once he was free, Roman lunged for Patton quickly scribbling at his sides. It was Patton's turn to squeal at the odd feeling.

"AAAA! Ahahahahah ohohohoho gohohohohoddness!!" But Patton was able to get a hand into Roman's armpit and Roman began to defend instead of tickle. Virgil watched with a fond smile on his face at the happy laughter brought about by his friend and companion. He only looked away when movement caught his eye.

"And that is what is known as a tickle fight." The octomer settled down next to Virgil, putting a comforting tentacle on his shoulder.

"I gotta admit. That is adorable." Virgil tried to quell the blush rising to his cheeks, but was unable to.

"I agree." Logan said, looking at Virgil with a small smirk on his face. "So...are you rethinking your opinion?" Virgil tried to glare, but he was unable to get his usual intimidation across due to the sound of Roman and Patton's laughter.

"No. Never." Logan hummed and inched the tentacle on his shoulder to his armpit. "Ah!" Virgil caught it before it could get any closer. Logan only chuckled, letting him hold it and not sending any others after him. Virgil relaxed and held it lovingly. His fingers explored the tentacle watching Logan's facial expressions contort when they brushed against the underside of it. Virgil began to tease.

"Oh? What's this?" He began to wiggle his fingers lightly there, watching with fondness as Logan began to snort. The cute part about the situation was Logan wasn't even trying to escape from Virgil's ticklish touches. "Is this a tickle spot?" He continued swimming closer to Logan and stroked up and down the length of the tentacle. "That's actually adorable."

"Nohohoho it's nohohot!" Logan countered, but Virgil only captured the attention of Roman and Patton.

"Hey! Both of you! Logan's tentacles are a tickle spot!" Roman grinned at the information and hooked an arm around Logan's torso from the back capturing a tentacle lovingly in his grasp and mimicking the movements Virgil was performing on the other one.

Patton swam up to Virgil with his face flushed red, small giggles still protruding from his lips. "Eheheheh! That was fun! Are you sure you don't like tickling Virgil?" Virgil thought for a moment, the tentacle he was tickling slipping out of his hands to aid against Roman's full phalangeal assault on Logan's newfound tickle spot.

"Well...Roman...he was too rough before and the feeling of tickling...is kind of scary. It's like you have no control." Patton nodded, but gave him a hug. "But, seeing them happy and seeing them laughing and smiling, especially Logan who doesn't normally do any of that," He pointed to the big smile plastered on the octomer's face. "...that...might just be worth it." Patton tapped his chin.

"Would you like to give it a try again then? On your side." Virgil slowly began to nod his head. "Yeah. Yeah...I think so...but...please...stop when I ask you too." Patton smiled.

"Of course! You can keep your hands down. I'll never restrain you without your permission." The shark mer nodded and braced himself. Patton smiled warmly and his hands slowly made their way towards Virgil's sides. He didn't know what made him start giggling, but Patton hadn't even touched him yet and he was already hysterical. Patton giggled with him.

"Are you sure you can handle this?" Virgil quickly snorted.

"Nohohohoho!" Patton smiled, his gaze turning to Logan and Roman who were now completely engrossed in Virgil's giggles. Their staring eyes held nothing but endearment for the shark mer and Patton immediately knew how well they would be taking care of Virgil from then on.

Patton quickly grasped Virgil's sides and shark mer squeaked, but all Patton did was rest them there. Eventually Virgil got used to the feeling, but all too soon Patton began to stroke the tickle spot carefully, gauging Virgil's feelings by his reactions.

"How're ya doing?" The Manta ray mer asked after a minute and Virgil finally caught Patton's wrists in his hands. His smile said it all.

"That...that was actually kinda fun. It was...just right." Roman did a backflip of happiness at his final approval.

"Yes! See? I knew you could like it."

"No you didn't." Virgil shot him a glare, but everyone in the room could see his eyes held no anger or irritation behind them. Roman swam forward and held out his arms for Virgil.

"I'm sorry for tickling too hard at the beginning. That wasn't very loving of me. Would you please forgive your lover for such foolish behavior?" Virgil cackled warmly and swam straight (gay) into Roman's arms, the sweet embrace melting the hearts of everyone who could see the cute moment.

"I will..." He began. "Under one condition." Roman couldn't see Virgil's face, but he knew it held the biggest shit-eating grin ever. He tried to clamp his armpits shut before Virgil could attack, but it was too late. Virgil's thumbs entered the ticklish place and Roman was in stitches before he could even ask about the one condition. Logan closed in and wiggled his tentacles as gently as he could on Virgil's sides, causing him to slightly lose his grasp on Roman. It gave the dolphin enough strength to gently tickle Virgil back.

Patton was very proud of them. They were being so gentle with Virgil, and tickling him only when he felt safe and secure with them. It took maybe a few days, but Virgil was soon okay with rough tickling as well. Perhaps humans liked this pastime too, or maybe they hated it. Virgil wasn't sure. But in the end, he found out he didn't care which was true. It was because of humans that he was cast out, but it was also because of humans that he had found his family. And Virgil decided he wouldn't have it any other way. Even if it meant adopting crazy human pastimes like tickling. The most important thing to him was that Logan and Roman were happy. And when they were happy, so was he.
