Our Past - Prinxiety

I missed writing Prinxiety and I had this idea sooooo :)) Not with a prompt sorry. Also please don't be afraid to correct any spelling errors I might've skipped over.

[Virgil's POV ~ he's 32]

I was walking down the street in my work clothes since I didn't have time to change. I was holding Libitina's hand. We call her Libby most of the time though. Samael, or Sam, was running around in front of us with a stick in his hand. Me and my wife chose some creepy, cool names.

Samael means death and Samael means 'fallen angle' or 'Grim Reaper' in Jewish myths. In the Talmud, he's an archangel of death and destruction known as the accuser, seducer, and destroyer. Libinita is a Roman myth name of a goddess of corpses, funerals, and the dead. Pretty creative cool names if you ask me.

I had just got out of work and collected the two kids from their respective after school clubs. I never imagined a kid of mine would be into sports but apparently, the impossible can happen. Libintina was a boss at soccer! She was a great striker and a pretty good in goal. Samael was a bit young for rough sports. He did a little clay club thing where they had primary colours and they mixed the clay colours to get secondary ones. He made things like aliens, dogs, and burgers. There was some maths involved I guess with like measuring and stuff...

I just wanted them to have fun! Feel happy! You need to be a child whilst you still can! If clay makes you happy, play with clay. If you wanna kick everyone's ass in soccer, you go girl! Feel accepted and stuff. I've never been a great Dad but I wanted them to feel close to me, even if I worked a lot. That's why I take them to the park, for family time!

We got to the kid's play park. I let the two of them go and play while I sat on the bench next to it. I heard my phone blowing up but it was family time. I care more about them than my company. Why be a farther if I'm just gonna ignore them? Sure, I was Virgil Black, owner of Dark Records. We did all sorts of stuff. From beer and food to literal records to books to phones. I was a multi-billionaire but I gave a lot to charities. Kids with mental disorders and anxiety and depression. Kids and teens like I used to be who needed help.

'Hey, Papa! Can I go on the play park? I know Libby from school!' I heard a little girl ask her Dad.

'Sure, Bella,' he sat on the other side of the bench while looking at his phone. I sat watching the kids run around. Ah, simpler times for the kids. Wait until the anxiety and depression and taxes-

'So I'm assuming you're the two other kids dad?' The man said. He was tall, brown-haired, wearing a white suit. He smiled at me before looking at the kids again.

'Yeah, Libby and Sam.' I folded my arms, not wanting a conversation.

'Generic names much?' He said with a chuckle.

'Libintia and Samael. Both roughly translate to death in one way or another.' He raised his eyebrows at me. 'Why'd you name yours Bella?'

'I was going to name her Belle, after the princess but my wife wanted an Italian name and Bella is 'beautiful' in Italian.' I looked over at him again.

'Huh. Your wife sounds a bit pushy.' I shrugged.

'Yeah...she was.' He smiled somberly.

'Oh. I'm sorry.' I was super awkward about the whole thing.

'It's fine! It was a long time ago.' He leaned back onto the bench. 'Car accident.'

We stayed silent for a couple of seconds.

'What about your significant other?'

'Late wife.' I uncrossed my arms. 'She was great with the kids but we were growing apart anyway. She was a friend not a lover to me.'

'I'm sorry to hear of her passing. If I'm not intruding, may I ask how?'

'Suicide. I found her one night in the bathroom. Lots of empty pill bottles. I would've taken all the remaining pills if it weren't for my kids.' I sighed.

'I'm sorry you feel that way.' He turned to me and patted me on the shoulder.

'You remind me of an old friend,' I said with a warm chuckle. 'He loved Disney and stuff. Spoke like you do as well.'

'Really? What was he like?'

'I loved the guy. He was the best. He was kind, compassionate. He loved to sing and musicals were his passion. I miss him. He was leaving one day to go to a different state to pursue acting. I ran to him, about to tell him how I felt. But when we said our last goodbyes I... I couldn't. I couldn't hold him back. I couldn't let him go on unresolved feelings. I just told him we'd find each other again, in this lifetime or the next.' I let out a deep breath. 'He was my world and I let him slip through my fingers.'

'...wow...' was all he said.

'Yeah...' I looked back at the kids who were still playing happily.

'I have a similar story.' He started 'He was weird. Or different. He wasn't social like I was, nor was he as confident. I tried helping him out of his shell, and it worked. He was happier again. I fell for his sweetness and softness under his hard exterior.' He chuckled lightly, 'I ended up leaving him. I wanted to tell him so badly, but I couldn't leave him behind knowing I was halfway across the country and I was in love with him.'

'Poor guy. Sorry you couldn't tell him.'

'I'm sorry you couldn't tell your guy.'

'Daddy! Daddy! I went down the slide!' Sam ran up to me clapping.

'Wow kiddo! That's awesome!' I picked him up and placed him on my knee. 'You having fun?'  Sam nodded enthusiastically.

'Watch me this time!' He jumped down and ran back to the slide.

'Kiddo huh? I haven't heard that one since an old friend.'

'Yeah, I picked it up from a buddy of mine.' I clapped as Sam went down the slide. 'Awesome bud!' I yelled as he ran around.

'Really? How old was he?'

'Same as me.' I laughed slightly, 'He was the funniest guy, always telling Dad jokes. Had a massive crush on this nerd.'

'Sounds like Patton to me.'

'You knew Patton?'

'Who didn't know Patton!'

'He was inseparable from his other sides' He did air quotes around sides.

'Oh, there was Logan!'

'Dee!' He

'Remus, he was unique.' I widened my eyes slightly.

'Oh and Virgil and then me!

'And Roman and me of course!' We said the last two at the same time.

'R-Roman?' I turned towards him fully.

'Virge!' He threw his arms around me and I hugged him tightly.

'I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!' I mumbled into his shoulder.

'What for? I left you' He pressed his head into my shoulder.

'I missed you so much,' I said looking up into his eyes.

'I never forgot about you,' He said with a small smile.

'I'm sorry we didn't keep in touch.' I smiled back, sadly. I placed my head back down.

'You turned out pretty great, huh?' He chuckled. 'Got your brand name on everything nowadays. You own a couple theatres I want to preform in.'

'What about you! I've seen your face on billboards, your name is gold in the theatre community.'

'Guess both of us turned out alright.' He looked over at the kids. 'She's my pride and joy though. I'd give up anything for her.'

'I get you. My two monsters don't know anything about the world and they don't care.' I sighed. 'I don't know if growing up with me as a father is going to be the best for them though.'

'Why? You're funny so amazing dad jokes. You're smart so you can help with homework. You're kind so they can learn from you and become amazing people. You've been through a lot so you an understand them. You're also super accepting so that's nice.'

I smiled. I don't know how I went so long without Roman.

'Hey Ro?'

'Yeah Virge?'

'If you aren't busy, my two are staying with Pat next friday and I'm sure he'd love to see you again as well as Bella, so would you like to go out for dinner?' I asked.

'That sounds wonderful Virgil.'
