Husbands? / DLAMP

So this is based off a tumblr post somewhere, enjoy

No one fixed the fact that marriage wasn't the same as swearing an oath.

This was a direct result of Patton thinking that all of the sides were married. And it wasn't his fault - no one spoke up. He figured there wasn't anything flashy for Virgil and Logan, they wouldn't have wanted the attention.

Not when he started to wear a ring with five little gemstones of different colors. (Which he'd worked really hard on - there was a reason he wasn't creativity!)

Or when he started to show more affection. He was already very loving and touchy, so they thought nothing of it.

"Roman!" He ran up to said side, taking his hand, and pecking him on the cheek. "Good luck on your quest thing! Stay safe!"

Roman acknowledged him with a smile and a promise that he would.

And while he was confused as to why Patton had fell asleep on his floor waiting for him, he was grateful nonetheless. He simply carried Patton back to his room and changed him into pajamas.

Sometimes, Deceit would wander the halls at ungodly hours of the night, and there was often a plate of waffles out. Next to it, a small card with a doodle of a snake and a heart.

The plate was always empty in the morning.

It was mostly small things like Patton hugging Virgil from behind when they baked together, or when he'd straighten Logan's tie and sit down with him more often for tea. (He knew Logan wasn't too keen on affection, so hopefully that would do.)

It wasn't until the next movie night they'd all planned when they realized something was up. Patton, ever more cuddly, had his head on Romans shoulder and was holding Virgil's hand. Deceit was there, too, per Patton's request.

They were watching Tangled, but Patton was just looking around at his (presumed-to-be) husbands' expressions. Especially Roman's - he loved how excited he got during Disney movies. Virgil did, too, but in his own little way.

Roman noticed his staring and they exchanged soft smiles.

Patton hesitated a moment before whispering: "Is it okay if I kiss you?"

"...what?" Roman had asked in response. Virgil turned, having heard Patton's question.

"I mean," he talked a little louder now, "I get it if you don't wanna, but I was just thinking, cause we're husbands and all-"

Logan interjected. "Husbands?" There could have been a hint of jealousy in his tone, but who's to say?

"Yeah..? We all got married, like, a week ago..."

Then it clicked.

"Uh, Patton..." Logan piped up, "I, um... that was..."

"A completely legal and binding marriage!" Deceit grinned from his place on the floor. He reached for Roman's hand. "Isn't that right, loves?"

Roman let him take it. "Oh, of course!"

When Logan pulled him aside, he explained: "We can't just disappoint him, Logan! Believe me, I don't want to be married to you either."

So, that was how it went. Roman had proper rings made for everyone with gemstones corresponding with their signature colors. (Don't tell, but they all loved theirs.)

They all started acting more affectionate, too. At first, it only happened when Patton was in the room - they gave him hugs and held his hand and usually only gave him kisses on the cheek and forehead.

And yet, the fact that Patton didn't know kept eating away at Logan. Like they were lying to him. He always meant to tell Patton - but he just couldn't.

Like when he walked in on him and Virgil cuddling on the couch. Patton was asleep, and Virgil was close to it. When he spotted Logan, he gave him a look. Don't.

Logan gave him a look right back. Virgil, come on...

Virgil just rested his head on top of Patton's and fell asleep. Logan sighed.

A short while after that, Roman asked Patton out on an outing of their own. They had dinner, with constant mutual flirting which made both their hearts beat just a little bit faster.

After that, dancing under a starlit sky. Soft music found its way into their scene. Roman felt as though he was floating. He'd never really found himself this enamored with another before. Not like this.

Patton lifted his head from its place on Roman's shoulder. With a small, silent look, they both leaned in.

The kiss was soft and gentle, exactly like the dream that they felt they were in. Patton's arms moved to wrap around Roman's neck, and he held the shorter side by the waist.

Roman could just melt. The whole thing was just so perfect. Who cares if they weren't really married? He'd plan an entire wedding in a heartbeat for this man.

The two stayed in Roman's room for the night. Nothing happened, they just didn't want to part ways so soon.

Logan was awake when Patton kissed Roman good morning/goodbye in the doorway. He watched as they parted with equally fond looks in their eyes.

"Not a word, calculator watch." And the door shut.

Deceit still felt like he was unwelcome in the commons. Of course, that didn't stop him from staying there or even going there at all.

As it was, he'd just finished an incredible book and was absolutely buzzing. Patton noticed.

"Hey there," he giggled. "You look like you've got something on your mind."

"Oh, no, not at all." But there was a glint in his eye, so Patton sat down next to him and looked at him in a way that prompted him to keep going.

And going, and going.

By the end of their conversation, Patton was promised three books and they'd already scheduled their own movie night.

After giving him the books, Deceit got a cheery "thank you!" and a kiss on the nose.

He made his way back into their living room and fell down backwards on the couch.

Spotting Logan, he sighed dreamily.
"Yeah, you're not telling him."

"Logan!" Patton practically bounced up to him, hands behind his back. "I've been looking for you!"

"Patton, good, I was actually looking for you too." He sighed. "Listen-"

"Okay but can I go first? Please?"

No one was immune to Patton's puppy eyes. No one. "Okay.."

He pulled out what he had behind his back. "Look!"

It was a rather large book on galaxies and stars. The words that Logan had prepared promptly left for who-knows-where. "Wow, I... thank you, Patton. It's incredible."

Patton beamed. "Really?!"

He smiled, genuinely, in response. "Yes. I love it."

"I knew you would!" Patton kissed him on the cheek and went on his way.

Virgil saw him walk into the living room, holding his new book close to his chest. "So?"

"Well, I just can't seem to tell him, so I don't see a point in it."

"Whatever you need to tell yourself."

So maybe they could keep it going for a while longer.

And, yes, they were mostly just showing affection to Patton, but it had spread to each other after a while.

Logan and Roman were really only teasing one another for fun, and not just for excessive annoyance. Virgil and Logan shared earbuds to try and drown out spontaneous duets from Roman and Deceit.

Even Virgil and Deceit could have a normal conversation. Everyone was shocked.

Collectively, they'd all learned to love each other. So, collectively, they decided on a little surprise for Patton.

They woke him up on one bright morning by grouping in his room.

Gently, Roman shook him awake. "Patton... dearest, wake up..."

A groan was heard from the lump of blankets. "Wh... guys?"

"Hey, Pat." Virgil sat down on the bed. "We have something for you, but you really should get up and ready for this one."

So he did, and they went on their way.

They stopped outside the entrance to the Mind Palace so Patton could be blindfolded.

"You're really not gonna tell me what you're doing?"

"Patton," Roman said, finishing tying the blindfold, "we love you, but surprises are surprises."

"That's incredibly redundant," Logan said.

"Shut up."

Patton could feel the change in the ground after he stepped in. Immediately, he felt soft grass under his feet.

He also felt a change in his clothes. His arms and legs felt bare, and the material on his shoulders and chest was scratchy. The rest of it felt smooth. Silky.

A dress? Why was he wearing a dress?

After a bit of walking, he felt a change from grass to, uh... concrete?

"Alright, Pat." Virgil turned him around to face him. "Do you wanna see now?"

Patton nodded excitedly.

The blindfold came off.

Virgil's nervous smile was the first thing he saw. Patton couldn't help but give him a kiss on the nose before looking around more.

A beautiful, sunny clearing. A pathway leading up to what looked a lot like a... wedding arch.

What? But... oh...

He noticed their outfits.

Virgil's was almost like in the courtroom, but a black suit jacket and, honestly, Patton didn't think he could look any more handsome. Logan was straight up wearing a tux with his normal blue tie. Roman had on a strapless, nearly floor-length dress, red with gold trim. Deceit's was mostly gold, with long sleeves and an a-line skirt and his signature gloves.

Patton looked down. A sky-blue dress with a translucent top and a poofy skirt.

"Wow..."

Logan cleared his throat. "So, Patton, in full honesty, um... we didn't really get married. I wanted to tell you, but-"

"But, Patton," Roman cut in, "we realized that, well, we all fell in love with you. Not only that, but we all sort of fell in love with each other." He smiled softly at everyone.

"What we're trying to say is..." Deceit took his hand.

"Patton, will you marry us?"

Said side was currently crying. But he managed to nod, smiling as bright as the sun itself.

The ceremony, though short and bare, was the best time of all of their lives. They even said their vows, some of which had been made up on the spot, but that made them even more endearing.

They all took their cake back to their common living room, where they ate while a movie played.
Tangled. How ironic.

The now happy husbands all fell asleep in a delirious pile of cuddles and love. They couldn't be any happier, ever, than they were in that moment.

Bit of a rushed ending but I wanted to get this out there :)

There might be some mistakes cause I feel pretty awful ngl

So yeah also happy pride month have fun be gay and remember it's illegal to be intolerant bye
