[9] - Logince - Christmas Party

Prompt 12: christmas party

Warnings: no

--

A Christmas party at work was about the last place Logan wanted to be at any given moment, but as an adult there were many unpleasant things to get through for the sake of making money and being responsible.

If the Christmas party hadn't been mandatory he would have been at home reading his new book, but he was not that fortunate.

No, instead he was mingling with coworkers, wearing a blue sweater with snowflakes over his usual button up and tie. Why did it have to be an ugly sweater party? At least there was alcohol and other, non alcoholic, drinks, and snacks.

Logan had been talking to the art teacher while drinking some wine even if he didn't like the taste of it. He understood that there wasn't a budget for good wine, but it was still a disappointment. Maybe because of how pessimistic Logan was feeling about the whole night.

The art teacher got a call from his kid's babysitter, hurrying away and leaving Logan to (not) appreciate the cheap wine on his own. Just one more hour and he could head home.

He sighed, turning around to see if there was anything interesting going on and came face to face with Roman, one of his colleagues.

"Hello there." Roman said, raising a glass of soda in a greeting.

The drama teacher was rather new, he had only been working there for about eight weeks and Logan had not gotten to know him very well. He had gotten to show him around some on his first day, and they greeted each other in the staffroom or in the corridors sometimes.

From what Logan had gathered Roman was rather outgoing, dramatic, generally well liked by their other colleagues and, if the pride pin constantly pinned to what he was wearing was anything to go by, queer.

Logan did like the fact that he was not completely surrounded by straight coworkers anymore. Maybe he should make an effort to talk to Roman sometime, it wouldn't be awful to have a friend.

Though, then again, socializing... ugh.

"Hello." He said, looking at Roman's very red sweater with a glittery golden print that read 'ho ho ho homo'.

"Nice sweater." Logan said and Roman grinned, not seeming to sense his sarcasm.

"Thanks!" He said and took a sip from his soda, looking Logan up and down, likely to judge his choice of Christmas sweater. Since Logan had no lights or glitter or bad puns on his shirt he suspected that he would be labeled as boring by many of his coworkers, a fact he had absolutely no problem with.

"So, how do you like the party?" He wondered, gesturing vaguely at the rest of their coworkers. Logan glanced around them, noting the ugly Christmas decorations and the overplayed Christmas music, thinking that none of them could actually want to be there.

"It's... nice." He settled on, maybe not sounding entirely convincing based on Roman's raised eyebrow.

"It is not exactly my scene, I suppose." Logan said, taking a step back to place his glass on a table. It didn't taste good enough to keep drinking, he had decided.

"It's not mine either." Roman said with a shrug and it was Logan's turn to feel mildly sceptical.

"Really? You look like you're right in your element." He said because, well, from the little he knew of the other he seemed to be the kind of person to enjoy social events. Though, maybe it was stupid of him to make assumptions about someone he knew so little off that assumptions was all he had.

"Actually, I'd rather be hanging out with my d&d group. Or be at home writing. I'm not as extroverted as I seem." Roman said, definitely peaking Logan's interest.

Roman was a nerd? That he could work with. Suddenly making friends seemed much easier.

"Oh, what do you write?" Logan wondered, and Roman set off on an excited explanation of the fantasy story he was writing. For once Logan didn't have to pretend to seem interested when a coworker was talking to him.

Roman seemed to have a rather well developed story and world that the story was playing out in and, from the way Roman described it, Logan didn't think he would mind at all to read it one day. Especially as every character in it seemed to be queer.

Roman only stopped talking when another coworker walked by really close to them, inserting herself into their conversation for just a moment.

"Well, look at you two, standing under a mistletoe." She said, giving Roman a nudge and grinning. Then she continued towards the bathroom as Logan and Roman both looked up, noticing that there was indeed a little mistletoe hanging from the ceiling almost above where they were standing.

Logan looked back at his coworker, fully prepared to mention that they weren't directly under the mistletoe, or just take a step back and let Roman know that kissing coworkers was not something Logan did.

Roman looked at Logan again, face having gone just a little bit red, and he raised his brows and gave Logan a rather charming smile.

"Well, what do you say, do we honor tradition?" He wondered and Logan, for whatever foolish reason, couldn't remember what it was he had planned to say.

"Why not." He found himself saying instead, which was insane of him. Roman seemed slightly surprised about the compliance, but no more than Logan himself.

Still, he held Roman's gaze to show that he was serious.

Roman's warm hand cupped his jaw, tilting his head up slightly. Their eyes met for a moment in which Logan questioned if what he was doing was very well thought through (it wasn't) but then Roman kissed him and Logan's entire mind kind of blanked, only being able to focus on the kiss in itself..

Roman's lips were surprisingly soft and although the kiss barely lasted three seconds Logan did kiss back, a small part of him missing the contact as soon as Roman pulled back.

It really had been a while since anyone had kissed him, huh?

Logan got the distinct feeling that either of them should say something as they were standing there looking at each other as the silence between them was making this post-kiss moment very awkward, but at the moment Logan wasn't sure that words were something he knew.

What was he supposed to say after sharing a surprisingly enjoyable kiss with a coworker under a mistletoe during a dreadful Christmas party? If anyone knew then he was open for suggestions.

Before the silence between them got all too painfully awkward the principal came up to them, striking up a dull conversation that Logan was fairly quick to excuse himself from. He was aware of Roman's eyes following him as he walked out of the room but he was very careful to not look back.

Instead of going to the bathroom as he had said that he would, he found himself in his classroom, sitting on his desk at the front of the room and looking over the stack of yet to be graded tests that he hadn't realized he had forgotten until now.

He dug up a pen from a desk drawer and began to check the answers on the test at the top of the pile, telling himself he could take a moment's break from the party.

Grading was usually not something he found very interesting, but compared to socializing with his coworkers it, sadly, came out on top, and besides, once he had started looking the test over he didn't want to just leave it unmarked, that was just leaving more work for himself later.

He didn't realize that his moment away from the Christmas party had turned into at least fifteen minutes until he heard the door being pushed open, and he looked up quickly, the tip of his pen still pressed to the paper he had been grading.

It was Roman who stepped into the room, letting the door shut behind himself, and the two of them stared at each other quietly for a few seconds before Logan spoke up.

"Hello?" Logan said, refraining from asking what the hell Roman was doing there as that might seem rude, but more socializing was not something he had been looking forward to.

"Hey, um, saw that the lights were on and I just wanted to make sure if that whole 'kissing under the mistletoe' thing was alright. I didn't want to make you uncomfortable or anything." Roman said and Logan had to admit that it was slightly sweet of him to come and make sure he hadn't made Logan uncomfortable.

He supposed disappearing after they had kissed hadn't looked too good.

"You did not make me uncomfortable. If I had not been comfortable in that situation I would have never found myself in it." Logan assured him. Honestly, while it was sweet of Roman to check up, Logan was capable of taking care of himself.

(And if he had been uncomfortable then that would have been on him anyway, he had been the one to agree.)

"Okay, good." Roman leaned back against a desk, bracing his hands against it. Logan was leaning over the stack of papers again, scribbling a question mark next to an answer. Then he flipped the page over and looked up again, very aware of the fact that Roman was still there.

"Was there anything else you wanted?" Logan wondered finally, breaking the silence that had been stretching out between them. Roman seemed to hesitate for several seconds, and Logan could have swore he looked just a little bit nervous.

"Well, I was sort of wondering if I could take you out on a date." Roman said and Logan blinked, for a moment unsure if he had heard him correctly.

"A date?" He repeated, wanting a clarification.

"Yes. I've been wanting to ask for a while now. You're very handsome and apparently a good kisser judging from the little experience I have, and I'd like to get to know you better. So, what do you say?" He wondered and Logan stared at him for a few more seconds.

His immediate instinct was to say no, but when taking a moment to ask himself why he should say no he had no response and, well, Roman was rather handsome and he had thought that he wanted to get to know him better and, really, there was no reason to say no at all.

"Alright." He said, setting the pen down on the stack of tests, fishing his phone out of his pocket and ignoring Roman's momentary expression of surprise. Roman seemed to collect himself then, and they exchanged numbers.

"Text me, I suppose. Now, I'm going home." Logan said, having glanced at the time and realized it was almost an acceptable time to head home, and with how much he had been socializing he deserved to leave early.

"I will." Roman said. Logan gathered up the tests in his arms, smiling a little at Roman before walking across the room and out of the door, leaving Roman in the classroom.

The fact that he now had a date with his coworker did not frighten him as much as it likely should. Actually, he was looking forward to it.

Maybe this Christmas party hadn't been a complete waste of time.
