[5] - Anxceit - Break

Prompt 8: christmas break

Warnings: bit of shitty parents, possibly wildly out of character virgil and janus, otherwise no

for Whisper__Dawn

--

Virgil had been anxiously pacing around his apartment all day, ever since waking up from stressful dreams at seven in the morning.

He had cleaned the entire apartment the day before, vacuumed, picked all his dirty clothes up from his bedroom floor, washed all the dirty dishes that had been piled up in his sink, he had even changed his bedsheets, which he had hesitated to do for months since the last time his boyfriend had been able to visit.

When he went to bed they still held his scent, it was comforting, even if Virgil wasn't sure if it made him miss Janus more or less.

Virgil plopped down onto his couch, sighing and staring at his ceiling for just a few seconds before caving and fishing his phone out of the pocket of his hoodie, checking to see that he hadn't missed any text messages.

He hadn't, and he gave his phone a disappointed glare, as if it was to blame. Then his phone chimed with its text message notification sound that Virgil never heard since he always kept his sound off, the noise startling him so bad he dropped his phone on his face.

He scrambled to pick it up before it slid to the floor, his heart skipping a beat as he saw the message from his boyfriend, and he found himself grinning at his screen.

Snakeface: See you soon

Virgil got up from the couch, unable to sit still even for a second longer. He walked into the kitchen, taking a clean glass out of the cupboard and filling it with water, then simply holding it as he re-read the text message about a million times.

AnxiousEmo: how soon

He stared, holding onto the glass tightly as the 'typing bubble' popped up.

Snakeface: ;)

He was just about to send a row of question marks when there was a knock on his door, and he set the glass down so quickly onto the counter that he would have been worried he might have broken it if he hadn't already been halfway to his front door.

He unlocked the door, pulling it open faster than ever before, and almost burst into tears immediately at the sight of his boyfriend. But as he was definitely a cool and put together person he managed to keep it in, instead simply throwing his arms around Janus and holding him close.

"Miss me, stormcloud?" He wondered, sounding just the slightest bit choked up, which could have been because of how tightly he was hugging him.

"A little bit, yeah." Virgil said, and if he could have found it in himself to care about anything else than the man in his arms at the moment he would have cringed at how strangled his voice sounded.

"I've missed you too." Janus said sincerely, his arms coming up to return the hug and they probably stood there hugging in the doorway for far too long.

As soon as Virgil heard the sound of one of his neighbours opening their front door he let go of him. He grabbed Janus' luggage for him, carrying it inside and into the bedroom, trusting Janus to lock the door.

"Anxious much?" Janus wondered, entering the spotless living room, especially eyeing the folded up blankets on the couch and the neat stack of dvd's on the coffee table.

"Little bit, yeah." Virgil said with a shrug, coming up behind Janus and resting his chin on his shoulder, wrapping his arms around his stomach. All the anxiety he had felt had disappeared the same second he had laid eyes on his boyfriend.

Janus placed a hand on top of Virgil's, thankfully refraining from getting into the whole 'you can text me when you're anxious, and you're not annoying' debate.

"Besides, this place needed to be cleaned up. It was about time." Virgil said with a shrug. Janus turned around in his arms, taking a step back and grabbing Virgil's hands. Then he pulled him over to the couch where he sat down.

Virgil immediately climbed into his lap. It had been too long since he had been able to actually touch his boyfriend for him to have any shame or care if he was clingy. He hadn't gotten to cuddle Janus in over three months. He had the right to be clingy.

And, he knew very well that Janus didn't mind.

"You have to visit more often, or I might just die." Virgil complained, making Janus chuckle.

"You wouldn't dare." He said, then sighing a little.

"You know I'd love nothing more than to spend more time with you." He said, placing his hands on Virgil's waist and giving him a little squeeze.

"Mhm. But you only got one semester of college left and then you can't escape moving in with me." Virgil said, grinning and cupping Janus' face in his hands, probably gazing at him like some love sick fool. The soft way Janus was looking at him made that less embarrassing.

"That's true." He said.

"You'll never get rid of me again." Virgil added, searching Janus' eyes to see his feelings on that plan.

"Oh no, the horror." Janus said, barely concealing a smile as he leaned in to press their mouths together.

Virgil slid his hands into Janus' hair, sighing happily at the familiar softness of his lover's lips.

"God, I've missed you." He murmured, Janus' quieting him with another kiss.

"I'm yours for all of Christmas break." Janus said, and they leaned their foreheads together.

"Not enough, I want you to stay indefinitely." Virgil muttered, pouting despite the fact that Janus was planning to move in with him as soon as he graduated from college. That was a whole semester away, an amount of time that felt as if it would never end.

"Believe me, I don't want to have to leave. College sucks." Janus complained, which Virgil knew very well. He'd somehow graduated last year, being a year older than Janus, but not without seriously considering dropping out every day and, probably, permanently damaging his mental health.

Virgil had always wished they'd been the same age, then they would have graduated the same year and already living together, not be stuck in different states.

"Yeah, why are you a year younger than me? It's stupid." Virgil said, leaning back slightly and sighing.

"Still taller than you." Janus reminded him with a grin that told Virgil he knew precisely how annoying he was.

"I will end you." Virgil threatened, which might not be as effective when he was sitting in his boyfriend's lap.

"Of course you will, darling." Janus reached up to pat him on the head, which definitely didn't make Virgil pout less. "So, do you want to watch something?"

"Lucifer?" Virgil wondered, even if he knew it was the show Janus had had in mind, It was the series they were currently watching together, only on season two out of five. Virgil had been looking forward to watching it in person with Janus for weeks, rather than watching it together over a Discord call.

Janus gave a little nod and Virgil pressed a little kiss to the corner of his mouth (just because he could) before sliding down from his lap, sitting next to him. It didn't take them long to have the show playing on the tv, sitting comfortably together.

Virgil glanced to the side, then pulled his hoodie off, handing it to Janus without a word. His boyfriend knew exactly what to do, though, putting the hoodie on with a slight smirk.

"Shut up." Virgil said.

"I didn't say a word." Janus said, flipping the hood up and leaning against Virgil, one arm around his shoulders.

If Virgil had to let his boyfriend fly to another state to go to college for another semester then he was at least going to have a hoodie that smelled like him.

They watched two episodes, cuddling and relishing in each other's physical company, Virgil trying to avoid thinking about the fact that far too soon he would be wondering where all of Christmas break had gone, waving Janus off again.

At least they had almost two weeks together, as long as nothing went wrong.

"And you're sure your parents won't try to, like, show up at your dorm to surprise you on Christmas?" Virgil wondered as they had been sitting watching the end credits of the second episode for a minute, as it was a thought that had bothered him all day ever since Janus told him that he had lied to his parents about staying in his dorm over Christmas break.

"They won't. Told them I'd be studying and that I've struggled with my classes, and they wouldn't want to do anything to mess up my grades, would they?" Janus said with a noticeable tone of bitterness in his voice.

Janus didn't have overly horrible parents, but they cared a little too much about his grades and would probably not be too understanding of the fact that Janus had a boyfriend, and Virgil fully supported Janus plan to go no contact as soon as he graduated.

"Should we order something to eat?" Janus wondered, switching the topic of conversation to something nicer.

"Actually, I'm gonna cook. Found a recipe for homemade pizza, thought it would be nice." Virgil said, having planned several of their meals already, although some of those plans were to just order food.

"How very fancy, I'll help you." Janus said, as Virgil had thought he would. Janus was actually surprisingly good at cooking for someone who ate mostly ramen.

Janus got up from the couch, holding both his hands out for Virgil to take and then helping him up from the couch. Virgil allowed himself to be pulled into the kitchen and Janus helped him find all the ingredients while Virgil found the recipe he had decided on.

Cooking was so much more fun when Janus was there, lovingly making fun of him when he was unsure about childishly easy things.

Actually, everything was more bearable and more fun when Janus was with him, and the fact that he would be able to be with his boyfriend for two entire weeks was probably the best gift he could have gotten for Christmas.

He'd never say that out loud though, that would be a little bit too sappy of him, even if he knew it would make Janus smile. Instead he'd settle on just being overly clingy the entire time they spent together, wordlessly showing him that he couldn't wait to spend the rest of his life with him.
