Executive Dysfuntion is a Pain in the Ass (R Moxiety)

Warnings: in depth descriptions of what it's like with executive dysfunction caused by depression. Mentions of food and not eating for an entire day.

It's Moxiety so y'know what that means-it's venting time, which means lots of hurt/comfort. Be warned for characters feeling feelings. And by characters I mean Virgil, cause he's great to project onto-

His fingers scrolled again. Then again. Then again, and again, and again. Post after post after post Virgil read, barely cracking a smile at anything even if he would typically find them funny. He was so sick of being on his phone, so sick of scrolling and scrolling. He had things he needed to do. He hadn't even gotten dressed yet and it had been hours since he had awoken. He was so fucking sick of scrolling.

He didn't stop.

Virgil glanced at the top of his phone in the middle of reading another boring post. It was 6PM. When he had last glanced at the clock it had been 2. Virgil glanced at his dresser drawer, thought about getting out of bed and changing his clothes at least. He scrolled down again. Just one more post, he thought. When he looked at the clock again another thirty minutes had passed.

Virgil finally pressed the button on the side of his phone, wincing at the clicking noise as his phone shut off. There hadn't been any other sounds that day; it was jarring to hear something finally. He set his phone down, drawing in a deep breath and looking towards his dresser again. It was another ten minutes of silent staring before Virgil finally pulled the blankets off of himself, sliding his feet over the side of the bed to stand and make his way over to grab his clothes.

Was there even a point in getting dressed now? It was almost 7PM at this point. Did he need to bother with clothes? His hand hesitated gripping his drawers, standing there for a few moments silently.

He needed to do something.

It took another ten minutes but Virgil got dressed. At least he could say he did one thing today, even if it was the simplest thing imaginable.

Virgil's stomach lurched and grumbled. He blinked, looking down at it for a moment. Oh, that's right. He remembered. Food is important. He figured he should leave his room and try to find something, now that he had found the energy to get dressed he could handle getting something to eat, right?

Virgil opened his phone again and stood in the same place for the next hour.

It was after that hour had passed that a knock was heard against his door. Virgil started, turning his phone off and nearly dropping it. "Uh, who is it?"

"It's Patton! Could I come in, sweetheart?" His boyfriend called from behind the door, and Virgil sighed.

He loved his boyfriend, he really did. He was just so exhausted today and the idea of talking right now made him want to curl up in a ball and never come out. Instead of doing this he called back out to him. "Of course, it's unlocked."

Patton opened the door and stepped inside, soft smile on his face as his eyes met Virgil's. "How have you been today? I haven't seen you around!"

"Yeah, I've uh.. mostly been in my room today." Virgil shrugged, rubbing his arm as he looked away from Patton. "I'm okay though. How are you?"

He was lucky(or was it unlucky? Virgil couldn't tell some days) that Patton knew him so well. He saw right through Virgil's lie, frowning at his boyfriend and stepping further into the room until he was standing before him. He put his hands on Virgil's shoulders gently, rubbing soothingly. "Hey. What's the matter, Virge?"

"It's... nothing." Virgil shrugged, unable to help it as he leaned into Patton's touch, breathing in his comfortable scent. Patton helped him to relax so much. "It's just... I'm having a hard time doing anything today. Executive dysfunction is a real pain in the ass..."

"I'm sorry sweetie, I know it's no fun." Patton pulled Virgil closer into a hug, brushing his bangs out from his face. "What were you able to do on your own today?"

"I, uh... I got dressed." Virgil mumbled, tucking his face into Patton's shoulder. "I couldn't do anything else... I was trying, I promise I-"

"Shh, it's okay." Patton kissed his forehead softly, running his hands through his hair. "I know you did the best you could. You did a good job. What do you need help with?"

"I, um... well I haven't..." Virgil frowned, closing his eyes and bracing himself. "I haven't exactly, uh, eaten yet..."

"Let's go make you some food then, sweetheart." Patton said, kissing his head one more time before taking Virgil's hand firmly in his own and leading his towards the kitchen. There was no mention of the fact that it was already 8PM, no scolding at all. Instead Patton gently guided him to the kitchen table, sitting him down and getting started on putting together something for him to eat.

Virgil felt like he could cry at just how wonderful his boyfriend was. He was the first thing to put a smile on his lips all day, and he hoped Patton knew just how much he meant to him. He didn't have the energy to say as much now. (Patton definitely understood, though.)

It wasn't long before Patton was setting a plate down in front of Virgil, along with two water bottles from the fridge. He sat down next to Virgil and smiled at him. "I assume you haven't drank much today either, so I wanna make sure you're getting enough to drink. Let me know if you need anything else, okay?"

Virgil nodded slowly, sending an appreciative look towards his boyfriend before digging into the food he was given. He was starving.

Eventually, once Virgil had finished off his food(and managed to carry his plate to the dishwasher all on his own, which he found something to be proud of), the two sat in silence at the kitchen table for a while. Virgil has scooted his chair close to Patton's, leaning upon against him as Patton wrapped an arm around his shoulders, his other hand running through his hair soothingly. Virgil could almost let himself feel completely relaxed in his boyfriends hold, but of course his anxiety still managed to get to him.

"I have... so many things to do today," he sighed, curling in tighter against Patton as he thought about everything that needed done. On a normal day it wouldn't have been such a problem, but on days like these where even speaking was a chore? It was overwhelming. He could feel himself tensing up against Patton, and knew he could tell too. "There's so much that needs done... I need to stop being lazy, I-"

"Hey now, stop that." Patton spoke calmly, frown on his lips. "Breathe for me, Virgil. It's okay. If you don't get any of the things you're thinking of done today, it's okay. You're going to be just fine." His frowning lips touched down against Virgil's forehead, not at all bothered by the fact that his hair was clinging to his skin with sweating from his anxiety.

"It's just... there's so much, I..."

"It'll be okay, Virge." Patton promised. "You're not lazy, sweetheart. You've done your best today and that's all anyone could ask from you. After you've calmed down a bit we'll make a list, okay? I'll help you get it done, then you won't have to worry about it anymore."

Virgil just nodded his head, tears pricking at his eyes. He really had the best boyfriend anyone could ever hope for. He clung on just a little bit tighter, mumbling his love for him as he tried to keep up with his breathing, knowing Patton would be there for him every step of the way until he was feeling better.

"I'm right here, Virgil. I've got you." He mumbled right back, wrapping his arms securely around his boyfriend. "We'll get through this. I love you too."

Ayyyyy actually wrote something for once and of course it's a vent fic

But hey executive dysfunction is really kicking my ass at the moment(especially today, everything Virgil experienced is how my day went today but with Extra that I didn't include and no partner nearby to hug me). It's really hard to write with this shut, plus I've had a lot of family things going on. I'm just not going to be very active here for a while. Not that I really am normally anymore.

But anyways yeah, uhhh thanks for reading this vent fic. It's 8AM now so I am going to try and get some sleep finally, but I hope you liked the oneshot. *

* wow!! Someone gave me a ring pop suggestion again!! I haven't gotten many since I've been so bad at updating lately. thanks so much to doctor2TARDIS for the suggestion. Take care of yourselves guys, the best that you can! And if you're having a hard time just know that I'm proud of you for even the little things. Even if you can't get dressed or even get out of bed, you did a good job just existing today. I'm proud of you. Love you guys. Bye-Bob
